Nina's Tropical Island Caribbean Restaurant

The lady that greeted me on the phone was very courteous.for some reason I thought the food would carry the same energy.
It did not.
I ordered the ackee and salt fish with rice and peas and was bitterly disappointed.bitterly.
Ackee overwhelmed with tomato (puree/chunks?) with barely any salt fish.lacking that perfectly salty umami flavor and the signature black pepper hint. It tasted more like pasta sauce with added ackee and sprinklings of salt fish.
The rice and peas was ok. But was lacking in the flavor that typically comes from being seasoned a certain way.
I wanted to finish the meal because I spent my money.but as a Jamaican, I simply could not.

Nice place to spend time with friends. The food is delicious, prices are affordable. I recommend visiting when you have free time.

Ordered the curry goat and it was completely tasteless. Had to add to containers of pepper sauce to at least eat the rice. Not sure about the rest of the food.

Walking in its a clean establishment and the food is all laid out there in front of you for you to choose from.

I had the jerk chicken. The flavours were good especially the rice and peas which she offered the oxtail gravy on. It was spot on and packed with flavour once it was soaked in the sauce. The woman working there said she recommends the oxtail gravy with the rice and peas and curry goat gravy with the white rice.

The chicken itself was a little overcooked but the flavours were all there and it was very tender as a result and easily separated from the bone.

The homemade hot sauce had quite a kick to it, adding a good dose of spice to the chicken but not much flavour otherwise which is okay since the chicken is flavourful enough by itself. The coleslaw was nice but not too special.

The only other addition I would have and why I took a point off is that the tables were sticky for no reason. I think it had something to do with the varnish used.

I could say that I would recommend this place if you are stopping for a quick lunch.

First let me say, I am a big fan of Caribbean food. I have eaten in many establishments in different parts of Toronto & the Caribbean. First time here since these people took over the business. Last owner made excellent food, new owner not even close. Poor quality (mostly fat & bone) in the goat dish and no home made hot sauce, little tear-open packets….
Will not be going back to this establishment. Look for something else!

Used to visit a very well known Jamaican place in Toronto.then I found Nina's.great people, great food, best value. I could go on and on, but you won't be disappointed 5/5

I'm not one to give low reviews to restaurants. However, I hope to shed light on some not so good experiences. When ordering from this place, I was excited because it was the only place out of a variety of options that served boiled food with their meals. I stated in the notes of the order to not include rice and just have the boiled food and the meat. However, upon retrieval of the order, there was no boiled food, and it was a large tray of rice. I was disappointed because the food was not for me but for someone who could not eat rice. In addition, I ordered the jerk chicken, and it was tasty, but i realized it was seasoned rather than marinated, making it so after the skin was gone, it was somewhat dry. I hope to try to order from here again and get the experience many people have spoken about.

My colleagues and I had 4 large jerk chicken entrées. Portions were excellent but I’m afraid the flavour was not there. The chicken was dry as if it was a rotisserie chicken. Not authentic jerk chicken. I probably would not come back unless I was really hungry.

Ordered oxtail, jerk, chicken, and curry chicken dinners from this place as I’ve been coming here for years and I’m finally give me these guys are review. This place is the best and you’ll never be disappointed!

Just tried they're Goat Roti.
1 of the best.and probably the only one in the north side.
Could have been wrapped better but that's just me.
So much food I can save the other half for Linner.lol

The first time I went there the food was pretty good the second time I went there I'm not sure if I'm going to go back and if I do maybe I'll try something different I like to support small businesses so we'll see

Great food and service.
Had the medium jerk chicken which comes with two legs. You can mix it up and take one jerk and one bbq chicken and you can mix the rice.
Overall great experience.

Do not order roti from this place, it’s not what you think it should be. Ordered a large oxtail plate, one large lamb curry plate and one beef roti. Food comes in good portion however, the flavour is way off. The roti came in huge size, and it’s done all wrong. The other two plates just have no taste. This place needs a new cook.

Portions are large yes. But that doesn’t mean anything if the food is dry and lacking flavour. Ordered a large jerk chicken plate w rice with a dumpling and a beef patty.

The beef patty was really good though! Wish I had ordered more of those instead of the meal. Dumpling was deep fried dough.and will go to the dogs. Same with the rest of the chicken and rice. Sigh.

Love this place. They have great food and great customer service. Definitely coming back for more when I get a chance. Best Caribbean food in York Region

I have been a regular for past 10 years. I work nearby and despite that there are literally dozens of food places to go, this is the one I go quite often as it is one of my favourites. Ran by the same family and they maintain quality of food, delicious taste, cleaniness of the place, superiour customer servixe and affordable pricing. What more do you need. Highly recommend

Too much sugar and dark soya sauce

Just ordered Uber Eats delivery. I ordered Ackee and Saltfish and boiled food and got callaloo for both without even a phone call to tell me they didn’t have what I chose. Very unprofessional and disappointing.

Amazing island food best jerk chicken ever you guys need to try it trust me I love food this was great eating best ever Jamaican food couldn’t be better love this place almost forgot very reasonable prices on huge portions highly recommend

Foods always consistent. Soup of the day beef dumpling soup is great on those chilly days.

This place is sooo good! Highly recommend. Quality and quantity is 10/10! Def coming back.

My mother always says that you cannot buy Jamaican food from just anywhere and this place proves that. I ordered chicken soup and received broth with vegetables. I have never heard of Jamaicans using green peas in their soup. The soup was salty, no chicken and just horrible in taste. I will never buy from here again and I urge everyone to stay away.
