Pleasant experience with getting quickly seated then served. Our waitress Jessica was helpful with our food items. Also the cleanliness of the restaurant is what to be expected where dinning at any type of restaurant. My partner and I also enjoyed our food and atmosphere of Nomé Izakaya. Food items rating from most to least favourite. -6 Oysters malpeque (9/10) specially with the side sauces that came with. -Sashimi salad (8/10) wished more lettuce, but the salami was very generous. -Nomé fried chicken with wasabi mayo (8/10) -Bulgogi Tacos (6.5/10) just reminded me a Peking duck, but not as tender. Drinks -Jade fox (8.5/10) -Strawberry peach (2/10) really watered down, no flavour Overall enjoyed our time and food.
Amazing food, excellent service and fun and lively environment. There was a DJ there on Saturday night. Truly enjoyed my experience there. A little small with tables really close together. Will definitely return.
Me and a bunch are regulars at Nome. We shuffle between this location, and the Don Mills one.
About this location:
- the spicy mac and cheese is one of the reasons we go for, along with the 1$ oysters on Wednesdays - we go on Wednesdays because they have 1$ oysters. I have been to this location about 4-5 times, and they have never had the west coast oysters. - They apply about 18-20% gratuity for more than 6, which is fine. However, they wont split the bill more than two ways which is inconvenient when you are a group of 6-8 people. - spacing is very tight - good thing is they let you book for 8, unlike the other location that lets you book for a max of 6
Horrible dining experience. The waitress was incredibly rude. She completely ignored us when we needed to order food and turned away without even letting us finish our sentence. To make matters worse, they charge us for a mandatory 18% tip while providing NO service. The food - oyster and double salmon roll were far from fresh. This raises serious concerns about food safety at this izakaya. "
Note that they only serve $1 oyster on Tuesday & Wednesday. (We thought they have the promotion for the full weekdays unfortunately we missed the promotion as we went on Monday) Fresh oysters tho!
Overall: Nice Izakaya with pleasant ambiance, various food & drink options! Most foods are on the SWEETER side, so make sure to order some savoury & light dishes to balance the taste!
Recommended dishes: •Japa burgers - juicy patty, delicious burger sauce and filling portion! But it’s on the sweeter side, so one per person should be enough. •Ebi-Mayo (tiger shrimp) - large, meaty and perfectly breaded tiger shrimp. The sweet tiger shrimps and the savoury shrimp chips are a perfect combo! Must Try!
Hostess was rude and showed attitude for absolutely no reason. I called a few mins before their opening hours hoping they would pick up to let them know I will be late for my reservation and ask if it will be possible to hold my table. I assumed they would pick up since it was only a couple minutes before the restaurant opened, and also the shops at Don Mills location always picks up phone calls a little bit before opening hours so I thought they ran both locations the same way. I showed up and let the hostess know we were there for our reservation, tells me we’re late and that I should have called. I told her I did call and she asked for my phone number for proof just for her to tell me well all of their tables are taken now. So why bother asking for my number just for you to tell me my table was given up to another group? Her attitude was very unnecessary even when I continued to speak to her in a friendly tone. We ended up being seated at the bar which was perfectly fine from the start, she did not have to prove her point for her own ego boost. Every other waiter and waitress were super nice though. I’ve always enjoyed coming here and this was the first time I’ve had a negative encounter with any worker at this location. Overall, great restaurant and great food, everything’s great except for her.
Walkin is usually only available before 6. Please make the reservation. But this is one of the best Sushi Roll Restaurants in North York! Also the oyster is a really good deal (Wednesday Special).
Not a quiet place cuz people including us keep talking, but a good place to spend time with friends and family.
Used to be one of my favourite place for buck a shuck oyster. But the service just can never catch up. You need to wait on average 20 mins for a server to show up for any request as simple as asking for sauce. It’s always been like this, server altitude is not as friendly nor patient and never enough server. Food is good but overpriced.
Had a great time here! The ambience was nice and it was really delicious food for everyone at the table. Staff were always around if we needed anything, overall great restaurant experience!
I had their oysters, their japa-burger sliders, and one of their califormia (salmon and tuna) don- the food is mediocre and overpriced for the quantity and quality that is offered. With the selection of izakayas around, i wont be coming back here any time soon.
Went for the oyster? Night; fantastic experience. Service was friendly and very hospitable. Apart from oysters we had the takoyaki, lobster sushi roll, and monkfish tacos. We'll definitely be returning to try out everything else in the menu.
My first time having oysters and I loved it. Nome izakaya place was totally worth it. Had two different types of oysters, cant recall the name but i prefered the ones that was less creamy. Also enjoy the mini burgers. Hands down best burgers ever had (not exaggerating haha) i ate 5 mini burgers and you cant go wrong with it. Will i go again? Absolutely!
After all these years, Nome is still a Yonge/Sheppard staple. It's a bit pricier but the food still hits. Service can be a bit slow but just wave em down and order.
I was here over a year ago. The food here from what I remember was excellent. We had ordered enough to share between my group of friends. Service we received was good, but the place does get really busy so it is wise to book in advance.
This is the first time I have ever written a review of food delivered by Uber. And I felt compelled to because of the extraordinary quality and value Nome put on my table. I was really worried when the Uber pulled up and the guy handed me a very small bag. Often the portions are terrible and the quality is whatever ghost kitchen cranked out.
This was the opposite. The food was delicate, well packaged and presented. The protein (short rib Kalbi) was a solid portion and again because of the quality was rich and filling.
Will have to visit in person when things are safe. Highly recommend this spot, I can’t imagine what the food is like in person. Outside of Uber’s added fees the prices are truly reasonable for the more exotic ingredients.
Quite frankly an embarrassment to both Fusion Japanese restauraunts and an insult to Japanese cuisine in general. Only Izakaya in name and not in practice. The specialty rolls like the lobster roll that I ordered tasted sub-par and lacked any real substance. I have tried Japanese food from around the world including Tokyo and Osaka and found this place to be so far removed from being Japanese.
The BBQ beef was terribly chewy and tough on the teeth, making it a challenge for me to even take a bite out of it, let alone getting half of it off the bone. I hope the accompanying sauce was not made in-house given how I've had better tasting sauces when store-bought.
Overall, my dinner was extremely overpriced for what was included, insofar that I might have preferred a roll from a convenience store. I was especially taken aback when the Chef's recommended items included Mac N' Cheese. If you're interested in authentic Japanese food, this is not the place. If you're interested in inauthentic Japanese food, this is still not the place.
Not really sure where all the great reviews come from. Came across this place on an evening walk and tried our luck at getting a walk-in. Place was fully booked, which was understandable, but the lady at the front was quite rude in communicating that to us. Ordered their food for takeout a few days later and was shocked to receive a ridiculously small place of rice and salmon which was doused in a terrible sauce. Couldn’t even finish the food that we overpaid for. Save your money and eat at some of the many other fantastic Izakayas that exist in Toronto.
The original Nome Izakaya is one of the elite restaurants in North York. The food parallels with the quality atmosphere. There are many options to choose on the menu and may need a couple of visits to get the gist. An added bonus is the 1$ oyster day on Tuesday’s.
Customer service was horrible. I was served by this waitress, Grace or something. She barely came to our table whenever she walked past despite me incessantly calling out for a waitress. She was also rude to me when she finally decided to serve us. She was our main server for the night, and we had to wait about 10-15min for her to finally bring us the menu and ask us for our drinks. The restaurant wasn’t even fully packed. There were times I’d see her just standing around or looking at her phone.
Been here a few times and the experience was generally good. However, now they are serving food on paper plates and plastic containers, on a wet patio without any umbrellas. In addition some menu items are no longer there and the remaining food seems mediocre for the price (they add a bunch of sauces to everything to make it taste better).
Been going here for years. Birthdays. Gatherings. Dates. Any occasion is always great. Mainly go there on a Tuesday/ Wednesdays for the oysters! I did spent my news years eve here and all the parties/guests are happy
I absolutely don’t know how this place has 5 stars. The chicken wings were extremely hard and tasted microwaved. I usually wouldn’t leave reviews but I came home and puked and have had a stomach ache the entire night after eating there. My stomach still hurts as I’m writing this.
Went here on a Friday evening for a dinner with coworkers. Patio was opened and tables wasn't packed like other restaurants I've seen during the pandemic. Service was reasonable quick even though the food could have came out faster. Sushi Rolls were delicious, as were there fried and grilled offerings. Japa-Burger is a must try always and an extra slider can be added to make it more shareable. Oyster selection was mildly disappointing. Probably best to return on a Tuesday/Wednesday for buck-a-shuck instead
Cute patio. 4 stars because they didn't have some of the items on the menu. Short ribs and octopus balls were delicious. Their mango drink is also really nice. Beware of a two hr time limit. Server will come and remind you.
Nomé Izakaya restaurant is nice and clean, I like their fried chicken, the taste of fried chicken is very tasty, their rolls and burgers are also delicious, their drinks are also good and delicious, the staff is nice and friendly.
I don’t think this place was as good as before like mentioned in the comments. All utensils changed to plastic and disposable ones. We ordered three things: Aburi Salmon Donburi - the presentation is shocking. It reminds me of canned tuna/cat food. Then when I dig in deeper, it's just a couple of pieces of salmon soaked in mayo sauce. It tasted like canned tuna as well. Deep-fried pork belly - this tastes okay, but it's very oily and soggy on the outside. Fried Chicken - I saw people commented this is the best fried chicken they had in their life. I had my hopes up, and it's terrible. It's soggy, tasteless and the middle is slightly pink. We had to send it back as we do not dare to eat raw chicken. Overall, disappointment. Note to the owner: presentation and execution are very important. Please pay attention to it, or else you will ruin all those good reviews accumulated throughout the years.
Although the menu was more limited compared to usual, the food was on point as always. While the price seems a little high for the portion sizes, you're paying for quality above all else. Love this place, would come back again.
