Ottawa Golf Club - Irish Hills Golf & Country Club - Kanata Golf

Likely the best pro shop in Ottawa. Really a fun course with lots of variety. Greens are in great shape too.

We held a corporate event here. They bent over backwards for us and made sure we had everything we needed. Staff was amazing and we had a great time!

Very accommodating staff, even when you are not here for golf. We had a company astronomy event in the parking lot and we were very well looked after.

It's not a bad course. But we were the last tee time of the night and were followed by a tractor spraying the greens at some points he was like 5' ft away from us. The course is also extremely buggy its nit just the time we had chose i have been here a couple times and it is always bad.

Pros -> Greens were in good shape Renovated clubhouse was nice.

Cons -> Very expensive for the quality of this course. Outside of the greens, the rest of the course was certainly below average.

Biggest complaint was the weird interactions with the marshal. One example: He was confronting us for slow play off the tee. Range finder had the group ahead at 250 yards. Told him that and he said nobody in the group is John Daly. We aren't pros but our group hits it far. Haha - absolutely bizarre interaction.

The new owners are making improvements. Staff is friendly, the clubhouse is improving but the course needs work. A very good simulator setup is available in winter.

They've done a lot of improvements over the past couple of years. Everyone was friendly.

Good course for good price. Narrow and winding, the course is reasonably challenging; the conditions are it's limiting factor.

Full disclosure, I'm a member, so people may feel this review is biased.
That said, here is my observation/impression/opinion of Irish Hills:

The course is going through a massive amount of upgrades by the owners. It feels like year 2 of 5 for big changes. They have upgraded the clubhouse (lounge, kitchen, pro-shop, bar, washrooms), improved the driving range, invested in brand new carts, replaced fencing, planted saplings, invested in lawn maintenance equipment, etc. It does feel like the owners, greens keeper, and staff care about the course and customer experience.

The kitchen (chef Jen and staff) does a seriously great job! If you don't want to golf, at least try out a signature dish at a reasonable price.

The course is improving every year. They recently committed to upgrading the bunkers (clearly listened to the reviews), and the tee boxes/greens are looking great this year (acknowledging that some greens have dollar-sized fungal growth that is currently being treated).

Currently, being early in the year and just after 5 days of rain, there is a lot of water. So keep in mind that they make make the decision to limit golf carts to preserve the state of the course. This also means that grass cutting will be a little delayed, and the equipment would do more harm than good. Give it some time to dry out, and it should be back to normal.

I've played many other golf courses in Ottawa, and sure, they are better quality - but you pay more for those upgrades. Irish Hills provides reasonable prices for the quality of course and services provided. (27 holes, driving range, chipping green, putting green, upgraded golf carts, comfortable lounge with the widest variety of beers available to complement the awesome food provided by the kitchen!)

But, meh, I'm just some guy on the internet. Go try it out, you be the judge.

Good round for the price. Greens were in great shape & pace of play was excellent. Some of the par 4's are pretty long (400yds +). Nice course!

The golf course was great. We enjoyed our game. We stayed afterward to have a bite to eat, we just sat down at the table and the wind picked up the umbrella and table and it half landed on my friend. For the most part, she was okay, just a little shocked at what happened and had a minor scrape on her arm and perhaps a little bump on her head. The manager came over to see what happened and later asked us to recall to him what happened. Then, he gave us a refund of the cost of our meals which was very appreciative. We both felt that the manager went well over and beyond what was required of him. We were pleasantly surprised.

I have been playing at irish hills for several years. It seems that many of the course Marshall's have really declined in efficiency and are just extremely rude and uncoordinated.

We were greeted by two very friendly women upon arrival at the front and beyond that it was pretty much the worst service I've ever experienced at any golf course or establishment of any kind.

My friends and I are all experienced golfers who shoot somewhat low scores, and every single Marshall we Ran into was rude, snide and honestly just didn't seem like they had any control of how they were acting.

Not a well kept course at all, but that's the Beauty of it! Affordable to most people which is great - but really really poor staff and not good for the game.

My mom was planning on joining the women's league at irish hills an I'm now making sure that she doesn't:) despite many fun years of golf at this course I am likely to take it out of my rotation, hoping they ask a bit more of their staff moving forward.

5 plus hour round, no carts available, dead greens.

- The course isn’t in bad shape

Cons:
- The driving range and putting green are not in great spots compared to where you start
- Took almost 30 min to check in when the line had 4 people in it
- Took another 30 min to get beer at the turn with a line of 2 people
- Staff are new and don’t know what they are doing
- The white tees are the same distance as the Green/Black tees at most courses

Overall not the greatest experience. The course being in decent shape is enough for a few stars but I wouldn’t play here again, there’s much better courses in the Ottawa/Kanata area that are the same price.

I had a very bad experience at the course. I thought I would go golfing with my son in law. I booked a tee time for two people for 18 holes and specifically requested a cart as I have arthritis in my foot in addition to a foot disability. When I booked, I was told there was a tournament but that a cart would be available for me. The booking staff said he would add a note to the booking about providing a cart. When I arrived no cart was available. The starter said they were all booked for the tournament and they could not accommodate me at all. Very upsetting and a major inconvenience dispite the fact I was told a cart would be available.
They offered me cart for the front nine holes which made no sense if I couldn't walk the back nine. It was a waste of my time trying to argue the point dispite the fact I booked there specifically requesting a cart. We left and had to find another spot to golf an one or so later.
This is actually the second time I have had issues with getting a cart at this course when they have tournaments. Don't let your staff agree to provide something if you cannot deliver. Either bad customer service, bad staff training, or they don't know what they are doing, I'll let you decide.

I visited here last weekend and it was amazing. The club is just amazing but as amazing are the employees and people there. Very helpful. Must recommend.

Currently a member at this course. The price is good for what the course is. Would like the tee boxes to be more attended to though. The chef Jenn, makes amazing food and is a big part of why my group and I come and lounge. She's super friendly and makes great signature dishes. Definitely recommend checking out the course and the kitchen!

Indoor golfing was amazing! Takes a bit of getting used to but once you do it is fantastic. Staff was great, will definitely go again.

A pretty forgiving course minus the odd water hazard. Hardest part of the course is judging distances. Pro tip: the round hedges are the 150yd markers on most holes!

Enjoy the fairways and greens. Many improvements are making for a great golf experience. My friend almost got a hole in one on 8 yellow. New menus and food is fabulous.

Played in a tournament recently. Yellow course had aerated greens otherwise well maintained. Enjoyed the food.

Take a pass on this course. Opportunistic green fee charged due to Covid. If you would like to play on terrible greens that are longer than most fairways stop on by! Bring extra balls because the fairway is so long you will lose your balls. I have played this course the past two years and never seen it in worse shape. Very disappointing to someone who purchased a membership and was refused a refund. Very poor business acumen on all levels of personnel.

Course is okay! Fairways need work. Not a real big difference between rough and the Fairways. A lot of wholes I couldn't tell which was which. No distance markers which was annoying. (they are only on the ground, no posts) Bunkers were hard like playing on baseball infield. Tee boxes need work. The green's are small so hard to stick it on the green's but they were in excellent shape. Driving range is junk not maintained at all, no rubber tee's on the matts and it isn't really set up so you can hit of the grass. They have a nice little practice chipping area with a couple of practice bunkers that aren't maintained. So I'd say it's $30.00 a round course but that's not what they charge. Has potential with some TLC. Would go back if I couldn't get a tee time else where.

Slow as all hell, fairways are basically shooting out of the rough, and NO DISTANCE MARKERS? ! Guessing which club to use every time you shoot is a huge hassle

Even though it was closed two weeks ago, I've been there when open and it's challenging as out side if not harder a good test of golf.

Staff is friendly and helpful, course is in good condition. Only downside was the gnats were bad when you on holes amongst the trees.
