I have to say I am a long time customer. But the place is getting very old and even smelly. As we entered there was a urine smell which was disturbing. The bathrooms were ok so it wasn't from there. The carpets need to be changed and the owners need to refresh the paint at least.
The food was good. The staff were great! I can't say enough about how good the staff treats you and other guests. Especially since lots of seniors go here.
Problem with the cooks food not cooked properly send food back multiple times and still no better a pair of old working boots probably taste better tried once more thought they would have been better than the last time but no as bad if not worse than the last time
They do breakfast well. Extremely busy on the weekend, 45 min wait Sunday at 1130. Service was efficient, a bit rushed and curt, again quite busy. Atmosphere is diner. Large coffee and tea pots for the table. Generous portions. Lots of parking. Seat waiting area can get quite congested, so many wait outside.
I come to Perkins to have morning breakfast with my husband. It was a warmly seating with excellent service and the table is sanitized very thoroughly. Thanks to Naomi Bernard for her efficient and quick work.
Great food and amazing service at breakfast. Portions are very generous and the owner includes pancakes with every order. Kids meals are also great along with amazing tasting milk shakes. Coffee is average. Will definitely visit again.
The servers were kind but brought out a regular coke instead of diet coke not once but twice to my diabetic friend which is just super problematic overall.
Went in for lunch with my daughter today and she was beyond excited for her rainbow pancakes. The portion for the kids meals is very large (especially when you’re three) so we had to take it home. My ham and cheese omelet was excellent and the hash browns were nice and hot and delicious. My toddler changed her mind when we went to order our food and her lemonade came out very quickly. Only complaint was that we didn’t get her kids meal cookie but luckily she didn’t notice lol. Definitely will go back.
Updating my review to include that the enhanced cleaning is spectacular! Food is still excellent and the staff are still the best in the city! Great place to have a meal!
We ordered a take out 2 turkey dinner meals. The food was well prepared... (The gravy maybe a little too salty.) It was well package and service was great.
Currently here at Perkins they serve the first to arrive, no reservations. My siblings and I arrived at 9: 00 am yesterday morning and needed to wait a bit for a table. We all enjoyed nice breakfast meals. It's been awhile since we last seen each other face to face, we had a great time and ended by giving out hugs. This place kept clean and it has tables and booths, washrooms. They have a handicap parking spaces and the doors does has a handicap door button but wasn't working during my visit. Will be back.
We went there Sunday around 10: 30, we had to wait for 35 minutes and another 25 minutes once we were seated and ordered. The food was delicious but I will never get back the time I had to wait. Other people who were seated after us got their food way before us. By the time we were done it was 12: 15. If you plan to go to Perkins calculate at least an hour and a half.
Took my daughter out for dinner at Perkins, I had the Salmon with bake potatoe and my daughter a hamburger. Dinner was good, service was good but what I was hoping to have with my salmon dinner with warm buns or bread but and sadly to say the best I was offered was toast. No complaints.it's still a great place for Sunday breakfast.
Had to return my meal and my Mum's meal.ordered the Mini Pot pie combo and when it arrived and I took the "lid" off the pot pie it was half empty and there was only 1 small "strip" of chicken, the salad that came with it had "white" tomatoes.utterly disgusting food! My Mum's meal, the buttered corn was over cooked in the microwave and her chicken was flat and tough. This is the most disappointing meal I've ever had here at Perkins. The only Positive thing was Lorraine our server, she kept a smile on her face even when we ended up having to return both of our meals. Thank you Lorraine
Discriminates against people with disabilities. Won't honor the medical mask exemption mandated by the province on Ontario, even though I offered to sit outside instead of going inside. Such a disappointment
Out today with two other friends for Brunch at Perkins, great place that serves breakfast all day. We had a great time catching up on news. We had an attentive male server who we thought was being a bit of a jokester. While clearing the table he said that the bill had been taken care of.we thought he was just joking until another server came over and told us that his patron, a couple with child had taken care of paying for our Brunch bill! I wonder if I will ever know who this was? What a great surprise! I wanted to get a piece of pie to go at the Perkins Bakery but couldn’t decide on the chocolate silk or the coconut cream, so I got both. Just heading outside to the car the server came after me and said that the one piece of pie was the last one and it was smaller then usual and she wanted to correct it. I gave her the bag, two minutes later she came out with a fresh cut piece and she included the other small piece too. How nice was that! I hope in the near future I can "pay it forward"!
I have driven by Perkins a 1000 times and the look of the restaurant doesn't appeal to me. Reminds me of the look of some old restaurants like Friendly's, Ponderosa, Golden Griddle, etc. A couple of people though have raved about the food so we went to check it out and were on their patio. Was very nice that they have a large tent as we went when it was raining and still stayed dry. The service was good and you take your bill inside to pay after your meal. The inside of the restaurant is dated a bit but not horrible. The food was outstanding and reasonable prices. For $15 you get a large breakfast and they have lots of other menu options available like burgers, fish, etc. We were a group of 4 and everything was excellent so we will definitely go back.
The plan was to go for coffee and pie (which is legendary) but I walked past someone's pancakes and got those instead and was not disappointed un the least. Plus they have great service
Portions were smaller than expected and cut of beef was fat and grizzled.service was good. Even the drinks were much smaller than we previously had here.
Ontario has just opened restaurants so we decided to visit one of our favourite breakfast places, and we were not disappointed. When we arrived we could see lots of safety measures in place including staff disinfecting tables and chairs after each visitor. They provided us with a pager and they asked us to wait outside, in the sunshine. When we were seated the service was quick and very pleasant, all staff wore their masks. As usual the food was excellent. It has been over a year since I have eaten in a restaurant so I couldn't make up my mind what to order so I got the big breakfast, 3 eggs, 3 bacon, 3 sausages, 2 big French toast and 2 big pancakes. My eyes were bigger than my stomach. The food was excellent as was the service by all the staff.
These restaurant workers deserve an award. They were completely slammed with orders and a glitchy computer but they still retained their good humor and created a lovely breakfast for us even as a selfish, entitled customer gave them grief. They work hard and deserve more respect then I've seen given to them.
Ordered takeout, and was pleasantly surprised. Good was tasty and nicely presented, and dessert pies were packaged separately making it easy to keep them filled until ready to eat them. Ordered burgers as well as a turkey dinner plate. Both were nicely cooked and flavorful. COVID protocols looked good inside, and a dining tent was outside for those who wanted to eat there.
My wife and I only come here to eat their fresh pies! This is our 2nd favourite spot for pies in Ottawa. Our favourite is definitely the peanut butter cup pie. The rest of their menu is pretty decent and the atmosphere/look is quite nice.
The food was bland and undercooked. I didn't like it. I also didn't like the ignorance and (racist) attitude of some of the female employees who sneak out to the back (where the dumpster is) to smoke a cigarette. The outdoor patio is still under construction so the only thing you can do now is take your food to go.
Looking for a great brunch anytime of day, this is the perfect restaurant.not just for brunch, but for burgers, sandwiches, subs etc. JUST NAME IT AND ITS ON THE MENU. ENJOY!
Twenty years now this has been the spot to get your late night greasy or whatever you're looking for it type of meal a hundred times better than a Denny's
One of my go-to breakfast/ brunch places in Ottawa! Great price for the serving sizes. I love their omelets, hash browns, and blueberry syrup! The service is good and waiters are friendly. When I've been, there's often a short wait which is a testament to their popularity. They're definitely doing lots of things right when people come back again and again!
Since a lot of dishes come with some form of bread (toast or biscuits or pancakes) AND some form of potato (fries or hash browns etc) on the side, I actually find the serving sizes large, so I often split with someone and we are both left satisfied.
St. Laurent Location! This is an AHmazing place. We go here really often and it never fails to amaze us. We really appreciate the service and the food is great. The atmosphere is inviting and it’s just a happy and peaceful place to spend time with people you love:) they always go above and beyond to make their customers happy /satisfied or to accommodate additional customized requests.
Great place for Sunday brunch. Friendly and family like atmosphere. Great Covid protocol with buzzers so you can wait in your car for your table. Overall, great experience
I’m a VERY picky person when it comes to breakfast. I prefer on door dash and just finished my meal and had to come here and review it. It was fast, delicious and absolutely perfect! My 4 year old said “Mom this breakfast is way better than you can ever make” and let me tell you he’s right LOL.
Absolutely wonderful for a weekend brunch. Fast, courteous, and amazing food. To avoid having to wait in the lobby they give you a pager and take your phone number down. You can then wait in the safety and warmth of your car (if there is a wait). Food is honestly so good. We got the triple egg dare you and the country sunrise skillet. Absolutely mouth watering.
The triple egg dare you comes with French toast, buttermilk pancakes, three sausages, three eggs, three strips of bacon, and potatoes. Very filling and oh so good.
The sunrise skillet comes with eggs and cheddar cheese, hash brown and ham. Everything was great.
Coffee was good, so was the hot chocolate (would strongly recommend) juice was amazing, any kid would love it.
I will definitely be coming back to try more from their amazing menu. Our waitress Hayley made our day and the manager was super sweet.
The place is very warm and welcoming itself. The waiters are friendly and quick to serve you. I love the portions, they're right on! The food is just great and the system with the pagers is a good idea! Their strawberry milkshake is definitely the best drink. I was so happy when they gave me a cookie at the end! Lol! I really enjoyed having breakfast there (even though it was late: D) and will definitely come back often. Great place!
Everytime I come here and I know there will be a wait, I don't care. The food is great, the staff are great, the quantities are insane, and the prices are great too.
Had amazing food with family. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. Perkins is a great restaurant for the whole family! Will definitely be coming back again when we visit Ottawa!
Usually one of my favorite places to go. I would recommend either breakfast or their burgers. Anything else is awful. Had the pot roast, and the beef was all fat. Tried to save as much as I could but it was awful. People are always nice.
We have been there several time in the past and the service was always nice. Plenty of choice. Kids like it so we are. On the weekend it can be busy, so go early if you can or be patient.
Food was good. Service was excellent. Restaurant is clean and has a comfortable atmosphere. There was enough food that my husband and I didn't eat dinner that night we were still full.
Waitress was super nice. Was very courteous to the fact that some of the party had allergies. Norriane made sure that none of us came into contact with our allergens. Offered creative solutions in order to be able to get the meals that we were looking for. Food on the other hand was okay but nothing to write home about. The appetizers on the other hand were amazeballs.
Always great service here! Its also amazing that it's open 24hrs and that breakfast is served anytime. Our group was very satisifed with service, portions and prices. Definitely recommend this place, especially for breakfast
Great food, great service. ONLY complaint was the bathroom door was slightly too small for my mom's wheelchair, couldn't get it through the door or past the stalls to the large stall without closing it slightly meaning she had to get out which doable but a struggle for her. Otherwise I have no complaints.
Food was just okay. But Random people coming in and out using the restaurant phone and having quiet chats but not actually eating. Something changing hands. People just sitting in cars. I suspect there's a less damning reason for what I witnessed but I have a hunch people were buying & selling unicorns. Serves me right for working late and getting dinner @2am.
I've been here a few times already and its been sort of a hit or miss.
The turkey dinner is a classic and they make it well. I loved the service every time I came in the evenings for dinner. The peanut butter silk pie is amazing and addicting if you're a Reeses peanut butter cup fan like me.
The breakfeast and brunch hours left little to be desired. The service wasn't that great, we had to flag down our waiter a few times because the tables were messy and not cleaned (had to ask for napkins to wipe some areas ourselves) and the condiment bottles were empty (he seemed a little annoyed when going to replace it). The breakfeast menu is mediocre; nothing special, just classic omelettes and etc. Waiter dropped some of my friend's food from her plate and came back with a tiny little replacement - not a big deal but the little things start adding up.
TL;DR its great in the evenings after 5pm or so but was not a fan of their brunch hour food/service.
This is my go to for a great meal for a great price! The staff is always impeccable even on the busiest of days and they are so kind and cheerful. Food comes fast and tastes great. It has something for everyone. On the busiest day (Probably Sunday Brunch) they can be so slammed but get people in pretty fast (10 to 15 max I find even when they say longer) and you're not feeling rushed out once seated.
Ever since our daughter moved to Ottawa to study, this restaurant has been a regular for us. We have visited it at least once every month since Fall of 2018. The food is great, ambiance super, the service great if you are not in a hurry. Wait times over weekends and Friday nights can be high but it is worth the wait. They could have a slightly better selection of beer on tap, but what they have is good for a lunch or dinner. And their breakfast menu is good too. Definitely worth a visit (or two or three.)
Great place to go when you're craving breakfast at odd hours of the day. Staff is always friendly. Join their email club for a discount coupon and a free meal on your birthday!
We had great service, couldn't ask for better. I hadn't been to Perkins in years. I was so disappointed to find out that smoked meat sandwiches weren't on the menu. I found there wasn't much choice on there menu unless you were going for breakfast foods. However, I ended up ordering a steak dish it was ok. Not the best, not bad, just ok.
Not a good place for a large group. Thursday mid morning. Our group of 12 was stuck in a smaller dining hall with a group of 30. The tables were 3 feet apart, maybe 4. Waiters had to ask us to slide in so they could serve the other table. Service was good, food was what you expect.
It's been a while since I've been there and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was tasty and the portions large. Staff are super friendly and the manager was onsite and visited multiple tables to ensure satisfaction. We went on a Saturday midmorning and it was very busy.
When you want great service, and have a hankering for some fantastic breakfast, AND you are damn hungry, come here. I don't eat like this often, but wow it was satisfying, even if you feel the need to take a big ol nap after the carb-load.
It's an American family-style dinner, with all-day breakfast and the usual sabdwiches, burgers and entrees. During my menu pre-scouting I was drawn to the country fried steak, an unhealthy southern classic. Basically, it's a steak, battered and breaded like fried chicken, with a country gravy. Sounds crazy, I know, but I've had it in the U. S.before and it's really quite delish.
So, 45 minutes on the bus later and I'm there, and looking over the menu as a mere formality. Except, what the what, I don't see the country fried steak. Asking the waiter if they have it, he looks at me incredulously, like he cannot imagine such a thing could possibly exist. Disapointed, I settle on the steak medallions with mushrooms, corn and tater tots.
Let me start with the good. The tater tots were crispy and delicious. After previously blogging about pitching tater tot poutine to Parliamentary Food Services, I had been craving tater tots and htis ticked the box. And the corn was good, with the light application of peper adding a certain something.
But those are two sides that are hard to screw up. You don't order a steak dinner for the sides - you order it for the steak. And this steak simply sucked. I ordered it medium, it was well done - no pink in evidence. And it was clearly just the lowest possible grade of steak they could buy. Not saying it was tough or grizzly, it just didn't taste good at all. I'm not expecting The Keg here, but they could have done signifigantly better.
So, left with a poor taste in my mouth, I decided to give them a chance for redemption with desert, ordering the Peanut Butter Silk cake.
It was OK, but nothing to write home about. The peanut butter portion of the cake was tasty and so was the choclate base, and I enjoyed it much. But the crust was industrial and bland, detracting from my enjoyment of the rest of the cake.
The reasturant was semi-busy with mainly senior citizen couples, and probably hadn't been renovated since the last time I was at a Perkins in 1990. Despite not being busy, service was spotty - waiting far too long for a drink refill, with my empty glass perched on the edge of the table, before finally having to flag someone down.
Perkins is our favorite place for breakfast, food and service are really great. My children's are picky eaters but in this place they love the food. I just want to say huge thank you for the meal today as it was free because the system was down. Again thank you so much
