Unfortunately we ended up in Emergency on New Years Eve with my elderly father. The intake staff was very courteous and efficient. The doctor on duty was incredible - not only was he compassionate but he was very thorough and knowledgeable. We are very grateful for everyone’s assistance!

The first time I went to the hospital the nurses weren't empathetic.

The second time we were lucky with the workers, they were very good with all of us.

On both occasions the time to wait to be attended was horrible.

We went at 9 pm last Friday fully expecting to be there at least 6 hours. My husband is 75, he tested positive for COVID and he was feeling not well. Place was packed. Staff were excellent. We got out in 2 hours. Restored my faith in the health system.

Very very idiot Canadian medical system. I don’t know why government not improving this system. Every patient has to wait at least 5 to 6 hours to visit doctor in an emergency. I suggest If patients have to wait 5 to 6 hours then please change the name from emergency to waiting area.

I was a patient at PRHC on two occasions. One for two weeks and another time for about 45 days. All of the doctors and nurses and all the other support staff were excellent and I felt very taken care of while admitted.

Triage staff just stands around talking, yup thats it just talking there are 4 of them working, 3 talking about nothing 1 doing something extremely slow and 10 people lined up out the door and only getting 1 person done every 10 min. Don't come here if you want to live.

Any injury you have will most likely heal by the time you’re seen by a nurse or doctor here. If you need stitches I highly recommend fabric land needles and some fishing line you’ll save yourself about 18hrs of waiting

IF YOU'RE A FOREIGNER!

Read and Understand.

Having traveled and resided in more than 35 countries, and having experienced medical care globally, I come from a well-educated family background. My educational journey took place in various American International schools throughout the globe, which exposed me to a diverse range of cultures. This is important to note, as it informs my perspective on the review I am about to provide regarding the Emergency department at PRHC.

For those who are international students or individuals with diverse backgrounds, its important to be aware that if you visit the Emergency Department at this Hospital, you may encounter a minimum waiting time of six hours for even the most basic treatment. This delay is not necessarily due to an overwhelming queue but appears to be linked to factors such as Racism, and Social Position.

To begin, I must express my dissatisfaction with the Emergency Department at Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Even if you arrive by ambulance and your condition is not immediately life-threatening, you will still be required to wait in the waiting room for a considerable period, ranging from 6 to 24 hours, before being attended by a "Doctor. " This situation raises questions about the purpose of using an ambulance if prompt medical attention is not guaranteed.

What particularly angers me is the perception that the hospital's nursing staff seems to hold of the general public. While it's understood that there exists a healthcare database system indicating which doctors are available on panel and which are not. Patients are often told to wait without any tangible proof of doctor availability. I know this happens so the doctor is compensated as he sees patients.

In cases where it's feasible, my recommendation is to consider leaving and seeking medical attention elsewhere. Visiting a walk-in clinic might provide a more timely response to your medical needs.

If you're reading this review with the intention of defending the hospital and its emergency department. I simply don't care how you feel. Neither will I be giving attention to you.

Similar experiences have been shared by numerous international students, and individuals like myself.

Now, let me tell you what adds a humorous touch to the situation. The hospital personnel and staff were completely unfamiliar with accessing MyChart. Their inability to assist me in MyChart registration was coupled with their preoccupation with browsing their Instagram posts. The evident lack of knowledge was quite apparent, and I hold no regard for the staff at PRHC.

In the event that you, as an international student, are unwell. It's advisable to visit the medical professionals at your educational establishment initially, such as Fleming College or Trent University. They are more inclined to provide assistance.

PRHC is a joke.

PRHC won't tell you about MyChart, they honestly don't care about you at all.

One of the worst place in the entire world! These people have zero time management, no treatments provided in the emergency department for 6 hours even though the pain was unbearable! Just gave advil for the pain! What am I supposed to do with advil in the hospital and waiting for 6 hours? I can do the same thing at home, what’s the purpose of giving advil every time to get in and meet a doctor! How can you name the department if it doesn’t work as an EMERGENCY!

My daughter was delivered at PRHC on July 28,2023. During delivery, there was a complication which required her to be admitted into NICU. Being from out of town and first time fathers, we really didn’t know what to expect. Luckily, we had the most professional, compassionate, and patient nurses at the NICU. Our two nurses (Kat & Tiffany) were amazing throughout our stay. They explained everything to us and made sure we took care of ourselves too. I can’t say enough about these two. The staff worked to place us in a stay down unit to help save on costs since we are not part of Ontario Health. Overall a great experience in a situation that is not the best. Thank you!

Came into ER with abdominal pain, found out it was a kidney stone.

Everyone I interacted with was so friendly, kind and knowledgeable. One guy in green scrubs in Blue Ward was astoundingly up beat for the whole time, it was infectious.

These people are truly doing their best in a system where they are overworked.

I've waited since three In the morning and gotten one blood workup, one x-ray and one ultrasound. Now I'm sitting here for hours just for results, no pain management in place, nobody's checked on me at all and I haven't eaten or drank, nothing is being done I just got shoved off down a hall and left to sit.

The doctors and nurses do the best they can with what the government lets them have. Friendly and professional, hospital is more modern than others in Ontario. Patience is required during these times, don’t take it out on the staff.

My significant other recently went through surgery and the nurses went above and beyond to ensure he was well cared for. I would like to especially thank Ang (nights), Malissa and Renee (days) on the B unit for their great support to him during his preparation and recovery. Thank you again, you guys are superheroes!

I recently had some surgery done, All the staff on B5 treated me like a Rockstar.
Because of them, I'm still here today.

If I could give zero I would - I agree with most. Adding the filthy plastic covid walls haven’t been cleaned ever.i was disgusted- 3 nurses and 5 patients …. Waiting while they lunch and break and potty and talk to family …. People waiting hours even though it was empty - Tim Horton’s cashiers could do a better nursing job without the education.

Spectacular people, great carring and compassion.the only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because they need more equipment and staff to meet the demands. I would not hesitate recommending any services that anyone needs from this establishment.well done

My husband had a Turp procedure and 2 weeks later, landed back in emerge and afterwords was transferred to A5 he’s been in there for 2 weeks. His TV doesn’t work. The bed beside him has been empty with a working TV and they were unable to provide him with a TV. I think that’s a little ridiculous to weeks.
He shakes slot so cannot operate iPads etc to stream
10 May 2023 19:00
Disgusted that while on A5 my Mother was transported to another hospital in another town without our knowledge!
They knew how to reach us too!
If I hadn't gone to visit my mother today I wonder when I would've found out.
Pathetic!

The wait times are way too long!
What’s the point of going to emergency when your waiting 7-10 hours
The staff are nice but they look exhausted
Turn the A/C off too it’s like 4 degrees in here
Just don’t understand why it’s like this every single time!
Frustrating

Best place to go for amazing care if you are sick.
The emergency department has the best Nurses and Dr's I've ever met.
The other nurses in the hospital are also fantastic and very helpful. This Regional hospital is one of the best hospitals in Ontario, and that is due to every person working at
PRHC.
THANK you all for helping me out!

If I could give it no stars I definitely would! People come to the emergency room because more times then less people need urgent care. How do you just keep people stationed while nurses lounge behind desks unattentive of patients needs. I shouldn’t be sitting with an ill toddler for 7+ hours to come back via ambulance finding out baby needed to be admitted where he stayed for a near week!

Do better man!

My experience with the Emergency Department: Absolutely horrendous experience there. 11 hours to obtain two bloodwork-ups. The doctor said they were short-staffed, 4 nurses short that night in his department while about 4 nurses sat for 4 hours straight laughing and eating donuts, one coughing her head off the entire time, while a sole nurse worked steadily. We all sat there and watched these nurses for the four hours that we sat in the blue section after having sat in the adjacent Emergency Room for approximately 4 hours. Then I passed out after having finally seen the doctor at 4: 20 am and getting more blood taken. I arrived at Emerg at 8: 20 pm Monday and was released at 7: 25 am the next day, Tuesday. Let the healthy, unvaccinated PSWS return to work so that the patients and staff that do work, don't suffer more.
