Went to get some fish but about 1/3 of the tanks were empty. I know it was a sale day for a few fish and all. I respect that. Staff very great, helpfull.

I recently visited Garden City Pets and was very appreciative of the service I received, I believe the person who helped me was a female manager with short hair. She was incredibly knowledgeable about fish and aquariums, and she helped me pick out the best supplies for a beginner like myself. The store had a great selection of fish and aquarium supplies, and the price didn't feel like it was breaking the bank. I left feeling confident and excited to start my new hobby. If you're looking for a great pet store, I highly recommend Garden City Pets!

I came here and was shocked at how rude the lady working was to me. She had a really condescending tone and suggested that I don't know how to feed my fish properly. "Have you tried feeding them? She asked me" To make it worse, the fish I bought were sick and wiped out more than 75% of my tank. (Red rainbow fish with a sunken belly that refused to eat. Then it spread to the rest of my fish one by one) I had to order medication that isn't available in Canada to help them. This was a year ago, but reading the reviews, I see that staff are still super rude.

I absolutely love this place! In March, I got 2 guinea pigs and they are doing great a month and a bit later! They are also amazing at answering all my questions!

I love that they carry Pangea! My cresties are happy. The animals are so cute & the cages always look well maintained! Great fish section too.

Always loved this place since it was Pentland. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. I was served by the new store manager today and she was great to deal with. Service here makes you want to keep going back!

This place has been around for decades with various names. It's definitely one of the best shops in the city in terms of selection for fish and supplies for anything aquatic. They have birds, reptiles, and other cute fluffy animals too.

We had an awesome experience buying a ferret at this location. Ezra & staff were very helpful, informative, and kind! Definitely would recommend this pet store to anyone looking to buy a pet!

Prices are a little higher than average pet store but great selection of items, and I feel like you're paying for quality.

Been buying fish here for a few years now. Just picked up a bunch of rummy nose that blew up with ick after a couple weeks home with us. I got very lucky running into team member Maddi! Shared great advice, knowledge and tips. We beat the ick and had minimal loss. So over the moon right now. 13/10 will recommend to others! Yes blurry pic the happy and mostly healed fish are zipping around!

Do not buy fish or aquatic animals here. Tanks are not clean and staff are uneducated and rude. Some of the worst Customer service I have experienced. The skinny girl with glasses (Jessey), her entire manner was completely inappropriate, it’s a shame she sets an example for the other younger employees. She was condescending and snarky, I was extremely insulted to be treated the way I was, especially over a $15 shrimp. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars at that store over the years and will not be returning.

I bought a bamboo shrimp, spent several hours drip acclimating it. The next day it was dead. I checked all my water parameters and had zero ammonia or nitrite and low nitrate (all good). I assumed it was weak shrimp and brought it back with a water sample to get another one. I did not see anywhere that specified how big a sample (I may have missed it) ? But was told what I did bring was not enough. They did say they would let it slide and test what they could, but they then tested nitrate for some reason, instead of ammonia or nitrite, which doesn’t make sense, since it’s usually nitrite or ammonia that would be a problem. When I chose a replacement, I noticed a dead, partially decomposed shrimp in the tank, that looked like it had been there much longer the one I returned. The young girl helping me said not to worry, that they check for dead ones hourly so it couldn’t have been there long (yeah, sure…). Seeing that I shouldn’t have gotten another, but I really wanted one (stupid me). I brought home the replacement and drip acclimated it for 3 hours. When I went to transfer it to my tank it was dead, it never made it out of the bag. When I tested the water in the bag (half my water), it immediately showed. 5 ppm ammonia (lethal). I tested my water also and it showed zero ammonia. I called the store and told the skinny girl with glasses (Jessey) and offered to bring water samples, she said not to bring samples but that she would make an exception and give me my money back for the shrimp. By the time I got off the phone the ammonia was at 1 ppm, which is very high for such a small amount of water, especially since half was my clean water. At the store Jessey became very rude and condescending. She refused to give me a refund but offered a store credit instead and told me I was lucky they were even doing that, that they were doing me a favour and giving me the benefit of of doubt, as if I did something wrong? ! I told her the ammonia was high which she flat out denied, she tried to tell me that the test I didn’t was not accurate because I waited longer than 3 minutes, which is completely untrue. I don’t know if she was lying or if she’s just really uneducated, but if she knew anything about water testing, she’d know it takes a min of 5 minutes to test for ammonia or nitrite with a master test kit, I actually I did not give the test enough time when I called her. I told her that all they had to do was test the water in their shrimp tank and they’d see the high ammonia too, but she flat out refused and in a snarky tone said their water was fine and that “someone comes in once a week who does that for us. ” It does not take long for ammonia to build up, especially when there are already dead animals in the tank, which I had seen.

I can’t express how disappointed I am by this experience. I gave the credit to a friend, it’s not worth returning if this is how they treat customers.

I have been going to this store for years and have spent ALOT of money here.unfortunately Jessey has THE WORST customer service I have experienced.
Every remark from her is sarcastic.that would be fine if she was educated but she thinks she knows more then she does. I have been letting everyone know my experience in the st Catherine's fish club and I'm far from the only one with this problem.

Great place but very disappointed after today. Our cashier Sydney was rude,
when i ask her to check the size of fire hydrant treats.last time i've got the same size and it was small, but this time small size were marked as large one on the receipt.
So i asked her to check the size, and i went to the small boxes to show her the size and brought one pieces and when i came back, she was talking about me to another staff. There was one mini size and she count them as small size. Experience with her definitely made me not want to go back again.

This is a wonderful store!
I was very bummed to have to surrender my Cherry barbs as they are adorable, but I had a filter accident that burned out & heated the water up from 75 to 85 degrees and efficiently killed one fish, and in the morning after the water turned toxic (ammonia) from not having filtration/oxygen that efficiently killed another.
I decided it was best to give the Cherries a chance and gave them back to Petland/Garden City Pets after 3 months.
There was slight confusion that I rehome fish often, but this was my first time! It was all cleared up thankfully.
I’m not great with tropicals, I have 5 large fancy goldfish tanks and that is more my forte.
I’m greatful that the staff is very patient and knowledgeable, as I’m not great at my people skills. This hobby is all about constant learning!

This is a store that is proud of their animals and it makes me comfortable to be a returning customer!
My only complaint; more fancy goldfish selections please!:) The new Ranchu’s I saw today were stunning, I will probably be back for one!

Staff are very approachable, knowledgeable and kind! I just had my first Guinea Pigs today, and Vi really helped me a lot, and answered all of our questions and concerns! ️ I’m beyond thankful! This lovely pet store is highly recommended!

Big variety of fish and very nice staff! Bought a female dwarf gourami not long ago and it turns out she was infested with ick. Definitely would’ve been nice to know prior but unfortunately I didn’t see it in the bag due to poor lighting. Should be checking tanks regularly for ick to prevent issue.

This pet shop has an amazing live fish selection. Highly recommended! Busy on the weekends so if you know that they have a certain fish or snail you want - get it!

The staff here are excellent, knowledgeable and friendly. I end up coming here at least once a month for one thing or another, Jessey, you’re fantastic!

This is a great locally run pet store. Every single one of the staff is extremely knowledgeable. They truly care about the animals they work with and have the largest selection of fish in Niagara. If you have any issues in your tank whether it be sickness or fish compatability they can help you. I so got the most beautiful red spotted severum here!

Went in to look at fish and wow their selection is amazing! Lots of beautiful fish to choose from. However when picking a fish, customers are not allowed in the room so you can't pick which fish of the tank that you wanted. It can be a gamble to get the exact one you wanted if there are many fish in the tank.

Amazing staff, so knowledgeable and kind. The fish are kept in amazing conditions and are taken care of very well. Had many issues from other stores buying fish which are infected, petland has had the best fish I have gotten within the past year. The store has everything you need. I am very impressed and happy to have switched to buying everything for my fish from here.
Want to say a big thank you to staff for caring and loving their job!

Been going here since I was a kid. Great pet store. Only thing is prices seem to be the most expensive out of pet stores in city.

Sales staff are very knowledgeable about everything in the store. She even knew which toy my hedgehog would love, and she was right.

I usually love this place.but today i got over charged for a fish and was made to beleive the fish was ten dollars more then advertised.the worker said the fish loose color in the bag so they will get their colours back. So when i get home n release the fish i see its not even the species i asked for.so again i called n questioned and finally after the third time the admit they gave me wrong fish and to catch and return the fish the sold me and drive another half hour to return it.complete bs getting over charged for a fish i didnt ask for and then another 20 bucks in gas. They should have told me to come get the fish i ordered free of charge for the inconvenience

Petland has always had good customer service. I used to be heavy into running large scale fish tanks 80gallons and up. They always had the perfect fish for my tanks. Mind you I was into predatory fish mainly. If it's on their fish list they can get it for you.

When purchasing my Axolotl, I had 3 different staff give me different info.one said rocks
one said sand
one said bare bottom.
I decided the next day I would like a second Axo.for my second tank.the same lady who gave me false info, refused to sell me a second axo.because i did not have photos of my tanks set up side by side. (why would my tanks be side by side? Ew)
The people in the fish room still stand side by side with customers to discuss the fish.but make you leave when they catch the fish because of "covid" all around a bizarre.disappointing and un educated staff.

Love this store, staff are very knowledgeable about various types of pets. Have a great selection, and the pet groomer inside the store has been amazing with my dogs for the last 5ish years.

I got a fish from here. The service was wonderful and told me how to keep an fish well kept as well as, the food that is needed for the fish.

Bought some fish and plants from them. Awesome selection and service. The angelfish i got are doing great and for sure part of the centre piece in my aquarium. Plants are also doing great

Decent amount of stock but Poor fish knowledge. Asked someone if they had a certain fish. Was told I don't "think" we have any now your welcome to come in. Instead of checking

The store itself isn't bad. I went in to check out the fish room and I was very disappointed.the tanks were dirty dead fish in some of them.also most of the plants look like death. I can honestly say that I would not buy fish from them. I feel like I would be just throwing my money away.come on guys you have to do better.go take a look at big Al's fish room take notes.appearance is everything!

Amazing selection of pet supplies in general but I am mostly interested in their aquarium supply and fish room. If you are into aquariums, aquascaping, plants or anything like that Petland is the place for you.

They gave a great selection of fish, snails, shrimp and other underwater creatures. Also have a big selection of plants that are in pretty good shape.

I come here for fish supplies plants and fish. The selection is best in the Niagara region but smaller than big Al's in the hammer. All of the staff that's 30+ in age is extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. The younger staff less knowledgeable I got some water tested and the poor kid had to keep going and asking Andrew what the colours meant. I would definately recommend anyone go to this pet store!

One thing I would change is order in plant tissue culture cups from tropica.

This store is ok. Some things r exspensive. Lots of fish to choose from, the fish section is very hot and humid.but being a fish keeper myself it doesn't bother me but it might bother some. Didn't like how they can not garuntee the gender of some animals before purchase, luckily we knew, like for example guinea pigs. The staff r fairly knowledgable. Don't have everything in store, had to go elsewhere for things. It's a good store if u need something quick, like fish flakes. Cat litter. Water conditioner for your tank. Other then that store is ok.

Its way better than pet smart for feeder fish least my tank doesn't get ick everytime I got from the other place I had issues

I have been in this store a few times, and many other companies who carry fish. This place has the poorest condition of Bettas I've seen. Not only that, but my mom bought a loach here that was carrying ich parasite. All of her fish died but one. The louch died too. Upon calling Petland with this info, they said they don't have ich in their tanks (ich is a parasite and only visible upon severity). Also, items are way overpriced. Go to another pet store.

As pet stores go, this is a great one as the staff are quite knowledgeable. One of the other good things, about this store, is that they only sell good quality products and back them up. Complete with a grooming service inside.

Great store good quality of food items for pets and toys that differentiate from some of the overpriced items other stores advertise.

Lots of freshwater fish, some harder to find livestock like skunk cories. Prices are pretty steep for more common fish e.g. Tetras, but the promotions/sales are solid, and the rarer livestock is priced quite fairly.
