One of the institutions in Spadina street Chinatown. Pho Hung is a place for good tasting pho and one of my most frequented spots when the craving for pho hits me.

I admittedly have only Pho and spring rolls (fried and fresh) at this place. Why would I want to mess with what their specialty is?

It is always good even if it has gotten more expensive because of how the overall economy is.

I remember them doing a rationalization of their menu and shrunk down the variety for the better. It makes for an easier time to select things.

Overall, if you are a fan of pho or just have a craving for it, this is a place to get to.

As a foodie, I value authenticity, integrity and quality in food - this Pho did not meet my expectations- mainly due to the broth. In my opinion it tasted bland and watered down, it also tasted like it was flavoured with too many artificial ingredients I habe a "tell tell" sing to determine broth that I made from real bones. When I took the leftovers back home and refrigerated them - the broth did not turn into gelatin-like mass, which it normally does if the broth is made from real bones (which naturally have gelatin). My second "tell - tell" - is how thirsty I get after eating a bowl of pho. Normay i don't drink water or tea while I eat (I knnkw some people do) - so for me to feel super thirsty after eating a bowl of soup indicates there is likely loads of MSG in it. Again - this is my personal experience and assumptions based in that experience. I haven't been to their kitchen so I cannot confrim their cooking methods or Ingres. The server was super nice, however, and brought extra basil upon asking.

Best pho downtown, family owned, you only need to taste the broth to see why they've been a downtown staple for years! Crispiest and tastiest spring rolls around. I always have to take 4 for home.
The owner is a lovely gentleman who takes pride in his restaurant. Chatting and feeling out the customers is his thing. Always pleasant and always on point. I could eat here every day.

I got the vegetarian pho and it was delicious, the vegetables were fresh and crunchy and the pho included some pieces of fried tofu. You do have to specify you want vegetable broth, however, the taste was phenomenal. The staff were amazing and so kind. Amazing customer service and clean restaurant. Only downside is that the washroom is in the basement. I highly recommend this restaurant for good pho.

Cockroach in the soup. Very dirty inside and the floor was very oily. Even though the server is friendly, I will never go back to this restaurant.

A standard of the neighborhood for many years. The good quality had been consistent and an amazing value for the money. Cash only payment. I've been coming since I was a student and I'm happy to bring a new generation of friends there even now.

The best! My family has been coming here for almost 40 years, since the Nguyens first opened it. They were one of the first (if not THE first) Vietnamese family style restaurants in the city. They are real pros, and very consistent. I have my favourites that I almost always order, but it's fun to try something different sometimes, or their specials.

The pho by itself is still good and tasty but they didn't use fresh noodles on my recent visit. The price increased and the portion became noticeably smaller compared to pre-Covid, it's understandable but nonetheless disappointing. I hope they will do fine and improve in the future, it was one of my favourite pho restaurants in the area.

Not bad. Very affordable pho here. They got my order wrong unfortunately but it was still good. Broth a little more oily and lacking some flavours compared to other places. Anh Dao across the street is better. It was very busy for a weekday lunch.

This is an authentic Vietnamese restaurant. I have been coming here for 16 years and the quality is always good. The pho was really good. Get the fried spring roll. It was so delicious.

Great Vietnamese food, very tasty and good value. The Banh Xeo (pancake) is crispy and full of delicious fillings; the drip Vietnamese coffee is strong and sweet! The food also pairs very well with a Tsingtao beer.

This is a great no fuss, pho option downtown. While there are other very good pho option in Toronto, Pho Hung is still a good option if you're in the area. Pho broth has the right taste and flavours, however sometimes it needs to be hotter. The large bowl didn't seem that much bigger than the regular, but I get the regular size anyways. The Vietnamese Iced Coffee is done right how you'd expect it which is great.and the spring rolls are fried with rice paper and the right fillling. Good, easy, Vietnamese restaurant option if you're in the area. Won't blow you away, but won't dissapoint either. I come here quite often and definitely recommend.

My go-to place for pho for years. We went on a not-too-busy Wednesday evening and the service was friendly and lighting-fast. Pho was delicious, and the fried spring rolls were crispy and flavorful. As mentioned by others, cash only!

Very poor service, price went up, meat quality went down, no tea on the table till end of the meal.

This place has been around forevvvvvvver! Always busy, always great food and great value. Perfect spot for warm soup in the cold or refreshing dishes in the heat. Highly recommend anyone visiting Chinatown and/or Kensington Market. It’s a Toronto institution!

A good place to get pho in china town. Reasonable price with flavorful broth. But the noodles themselves felt overcooked. And they only accept cash.

Our first come back after Pandemic. The restaurant lay out is very bright and comfy, they also followed up vac-enforcemant very well. The lady who took our order was very nice and helpful, the food came quick and tasty, overall we had a very good experience.

So my friend took me there saying good things about restaurant. But perhaps their good service last for only short period of time I guess. Pho wasn’t tasty at all. For the price, quantity was very low. There was this young girl in blonde hair who was the rudest Vietnamese server girl we ever came across. This was first and last visit. To people who visit Vietnamese restaurant for pho. Don’t ever visit this one.

Very tasty food but the staff doesn't really interact with you or explains the dishes. Come in with knowledge of Vietnamese food and you'll have a great time.

Give Pho Hung restaurant another chance. I came back here today since past 2 years ago. The first time, I don’t really like the taste of Pho. But I don’t complain about it, everybody have a different palate.
The second time, I had a good experience about food. However, the services was the worst I’ve ever seen. Even the server asked me kinda rude in Vietnamese. I didn’t feel they welcome me and my friend come to their restaurant.

A friendly family-run restaurant with good affordable food. The pho broth is not best you can get, but definitely will hit the spot. The grilled meat rice dishes are worth a shot as well. Cash only!

My review is only for their durian smoothie. If you love durian, you’ll love this smoothie. It’s nice and fresh and the durian flavor is just how it’s supposed to be. Not too weak. So happy they re opened after all this time!

Food is not bad not the greatest.but the customer service is def the best at being the worst.they never greet you, or smile or even say thanks.once i went in around 11am by myself, the waitress asked me how long am i gonna take to eat because its almost lunch time and a lot of people are coming.looks like they prefer to service other races besides their own.

Food was good but the service was horrible.

I was here by myself and thinking get something quick and easy. I ordered raw meat and beef tripe. There was this other thing in it. I personally don’t like it.

I got seated at this small table which I am totally fine. But the server came and took my yoga matt putted on the chair on the other side without talking to me. When I looked around there was an another table of 6 was seated behind me. They couldn’t pass the hallway. I don’t understand the seat on the other side was empty but they decided to push me to the side making space for other people.

Other than the wrong order, food tasted good.

I moved to the other side so people could pass. But I wish they at least pat on me and ask me if I could move before taking my stuff.

New owners running this place into the ground. Sad to see. Use to be a great restaurant. Now not so much. Service is always slow so be ready to be patient

I’ve been coming here for years. They have a large menu, the portions are huge and everything is cheap and affordable!

The beef pho is delicious, as well as the veggie one when I order it. The deep fried spring rolls are also very good. The service is friendly and the food came out fast. The restaurant is broken up into 2 sides and is cleaner than most pho places I’ve been to in Toronto. It is always busy and packed with people.

I 100% recommend this spot! Keep it up Pho Hung!

Terrible service and staff! This is definitely the last time i ate here. Imagine even when i ordered for SOME tissues (i went with my 5 friends), they gave me only 2. Suck? ! And when I had to pay 9.6$ for my food, I gave them 20 and guess? I only received 8.5 and asked me “That’s enough? ”

Worst customer service. Big language barrier with the servers. Second they talk rude and they talk behind their customers which they think we cannot hear and understand but we can totally understand. Servers puts up the chairs and stare at you when its late and seems like they want us out asap even though there are many customers left. They give you food portion according to their wish and when confronted they blamed the chef. They didn't even try to make the situation better rather talked behind our back which was visible.

My all time favorite Vietnamese restaurant- theur Phò broth is just so flavorful and warming. Ive tried almost everything on theur menu and ita all good. Lots of seating and HUGE portions. This place is ALWAYS busy and they do cash ONLY. Its family owned and that makes sense. Good fresh rolls and spring rolls. Love this place

Horrific experience! O star if possible! I’m appalled at their level (or should I say lack) of customer service! They only accept cash! They don’t allow food sharing! Everyone who entered had to place a separate order. They THREW us the the menu and DISAPPEARED. We can HEAR them, but they were nowhere to be SEEN. After waiting for a good 10 minutes we had to call out for assistance. Mind you this was 10.30am and we were the only customer in there. The food is below average and not worth trying! WORST of all, and the main reason that prompted me to write this review (which I don’t usually do) is they TALK SMACK about their customers. Their side conversations were so loud and they thought we didn’t understand their language. No good food is worth this hassle let alone bland lukewarm food!

This Vnese restaurant is such a great place for eating group or weekend hangout with friends, their beef broth is tasty combining with well done beef, besides the rare beef stew with rice noodle is absolutely fantastic with stewed beef and tendon. They also have noodle woton soup. But two inevitable meals that i always order are Beef Pho and grilled pork vermicelli with spring rolls. I could eat it all week without a boring or complaining taste. The service never lets you waiting, they all first come first serve rapidly which makes me quiet pleasant cause i ve never wait for a long time to enjoy ours meals, just come and enjoy and paybill then go home with your stretch stomach. Most costumers re multicultural so that makes u feel totally comfortable space and affordable prices when having lunch or gathering with friends here, but out of that, one unconvinient at this res is they just receive cash only that why many times coming here i ve had withdraw money and some prepared tips for, but the prices including large size around $12 u might fill your stomache with all kind of stuffs in the menu here. LOL one time experiences all the rice dishes here especially pork grilled with fish sauce, it 's super stretch out that i cannot walk after that, and my friend, either, both of us never calll that agains. Tks 4 viewing my comment in just a min, it's long yet here is all my ideal bout this Vnese res.

I never truly realized how great this place's food (pho) is until I started trying out other places' pho. The taste and quality of the beef served here is miles ahead of every single other place I've tried. I've come here a lot and used to take that for granted, but now I've realized my mistake.
The service is also very bare bones, in a good way. They don't bother you while you're eating to ask you how your meal is going and sometimes they even bring you the bill before you can ask during peak hours.

About 9 years ago, I have come to this restaurant a few times and I wasn't impressed both times so never came back. However, there was an occasion to bring some people who never tried Pho to a Vietnamese restaurant. Since we were in China town, I gave this place another shot and the result is I am glad that I did.
I ordered the small beef pho with spicy soup (sorry, I don't remember the exact name) which I really enjoyed. My pals ordered well-done beef pho and pho with wonton. Well-done beef pho is very orthodox, regular pho, and pho with wonton gives you more than a hint of sesame oil flavour which is tasty and surprisingly it's got quite a bit of wontons and their flavour stands out, certainly not bland. That was a pleasant surprise.
At first, staff didn't seem attentive, but when I was pointing at a window which was half open and gave me chills because of a cold wind, one staff noticed it although I was speaking my mother language to my pals and closed it for me. We said thank you to her and she smiled us back. I really appreciate that kind of unexpected kind gesture from people, especially in retails and restaurants. That shows that they really care, you know?

By the way, I just found a review which mentions about the gratitude that they charge 15% extra over 5 people, the reviewer writes that the staff doesn't mention it and he seems pretty upset about it. Let me tell you, it's described on the menu like a lot of restaurants in Toronto do. They don't explain about tipping to customers in person because that's awkward and kinda rude, I would say. And regarding portion size, I have been to quite a bit of Vietnamese restaurants and I think this place is average; small size pho or congee would be usually more than enough for girls that I know and hang out with, give 70-100% fullness to men I know.

Don't believe the hype. This review is coming from a Vietnamese person that cooks. Your first hint that this place is all hype is that a bunch of white people eat here. The pho broth is all msg. Msg itself isn't actually bad for you (don't believe the racists) but it definitely doesn't make for good tasting soup.

1 stars for food and 0 for customer service. The waitresses were ok but the owner, the old lady was horrible. She literally kept yelling for 15 min straight.

Tried this place because was listed in the lonely planet guide. I had noodle soup with lean beef in the large format and was good. Service is super fast and prices are very cheap (10 C$). They accept only cash for payment, but if you need any they have an ATM downstairs.

Some of the best vietnamese food we have ever had. Extremely fresh ingredients. Decent atmosphere but nothing special. The quality of the food gets the five stars. The service is average. If you want authentic vietnamese food with fresh ingredients this is the place to go. Highly recommend.

Broth was pretty good, portion was on the small side, customer service met basic needs (correct food came within expected time frame, water came, nothing more).

Their pho is pretty good. I only come here for pho if I am getting their spring roll too (they are delicious!). Their servicing does need a little work though but not too bad.:)

Service is a bit slow and wait staff seems flustered/disorganised but food is good over all. If you’re looking for good Vietnamese food this is the place.

Very popular and busy Vietnamese place on the higher half of Chinatown. Service is standard, quick, no fuss and easy to deal with. I ordered a Bun Rieu crab soup. Love these soups and order them everywhere I go. This one was absolutely delicious. Full of blood cake and pork knuckle, with big rice noodles and some generous pieces of fried tofu. The broth was rich and flavourful and carried the whole soup. Would definitely recommend this place from what I've tried so far.

You need a go-to pho shop for the piping hot noodle soup that'll help you ward off the Toronto winter. This one is one of the original, consistently good quality and affordable, and fairly easy to get to if you work/live downtown. Are those good reasons?

Got served probably the most disgusting Pho in my life ever. Worse Vietnamese restaurant in GTA. Vietnamese restaurant without Vietnamese patrons, that should tell you something. To call this Pho or specialized in Vietnamese food is insulting. Too bad I could not give 0 stars.

The Pho here is just the right price for the portion sizes, have tried Pho from all over Toronto and I would say Pho hung is a bit above average. You can't really go wrong eating here but there are tastier options if you're willing to look

Honestly. I came here becuase I’ve always passed by this place and was curious. What really sold me though, were the reviews and how good the foods looked. However, UNFORTUNATELY I had a pretty terrible experience. The atmosphere wasn’t welcoming, service was SUPER slow (had to wait 25 mins for service and that was with us having
to ask multiple waiters to look at our food list too since no one came to serve us) and the worst part? Plastic was found in my boyfriends noodle soup. My boyfriend and I got $10 off the bill but the place didn’t seem super clean and truth be told, I won’t be returning here for Vietnamese food.

Just for quick meal = good, pho was tasty

But service was freaking horrible. They just let other people sit first even though I came earlier than them because I was alone

And they gave me table for 4 people.
5 minutes later, they just let a man sit at same table without asking me anything. Are you fxxxxg kidding me?

I am usually okay with poor service at old Asian restaurant, but this place was beyond my expectation
