I have been camping here for 30 years and now my daughter is camping here. Downside is it's a lot busier now than 30 years ago but hey everything is nowadays lol
Always love going to the Pinery. Lots of hiking trails. Well maintained and enjoyable to hike. Great biking trail. Beach is amazing! Too much poison ivy. Encroaching on all the campsites. It's everywhere! Campsites are a nice size for the most part. Very busy and popular campground so difficult to get into. Must plan months in advance. Wood lot closes early. Get your wood before 7. They close exactly at 7.no exceptions! That was a downfall
Really nice provincial park, with so many different areas to go hiking, explore the wildlife and even relax on the beach. We really enjoyed our experience here and found it very peaceful and a lot of things to do for the price ($21 a car)
Amazing views, a tranquil river to canoe down, beautiful hikes in the shade, and it's right on Lake Huron.
However, this is a national park you can camp in, so there are no playgrounds for children or anything like that, so keep that in mind if you come with kids.
One of the few places I've been that is definitely designed with bikes in mind - and you can rent them there.
We had an amazing weekend getaway at Pinery Provincial Park! The park's natural beauty and amenities exceeded our expectations. The campground was well-maintained and offered plenty of privacy between sites. The staff was friendly and helpful, ensuring our stay was enjoyable. The sandy beaches were perfect for swimming and sunbathing, unfortunately due to the high level of bacteria in the water they recommended no to swim. The hiking trails provided breathtaking views of the surrounding forests and Lake Huron. Overall, Pinery Provincial Park offered a memorable experience for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. We highly recommend visiting for a weekend escape.
Camped for 3 nights at the end of August at Dunes Area 4. Lots of poison ivy but if you are careful, you should be fine. Didn't see any ticks and just some mosquitoes. One shower wasn't working properly. No more water coming out after using for a few minutes. But the comfort station in general was quite clean.
Beautiful sunset and beach. Will come back for that! Trails need more signage. Kayaking in the channel there was nice with the beautiful water lilies. But please do not pick them.
It faces Lake Huron, very long beaches and smooth sands. There is a canoe launch area. It has bike/canoe rental. The park has a huge park store, we like the coconut, pineapple etc (fruits) popsicle. The food at the restaurant is good and inexpensive.
Ashley & Sarah @ the Front Office. There is the letter of the law, & The spirit of the law. While I recognize you were "just doing your job", you do know that you are able to make exceptions, right? As a parent, after a big storm, I went to my kid's rescue and took their wet laundry to the closest laundromat (The Pinery has NO ATM machines, therefore I was unable to do laundry in the park). I had a 2 hr day pass, improperly charged as I am disabled and have an Accessible Parking Pass. I wasn't in the park 2 hours. Because I went over the time frame, having to drive and find change, just dropping off my daughter's dry clothes, I was refused the refund of my pass. I wasn't there for enjoyment of the Park, I didn't use facilities, I was in and out with laundry. By keeping my money, I am now unable to come back and enjoy your park, or any other Ontario Park. I don't have the funds, You do. Shame on you. Did my $21.00 help your park immensely? Because it's a BIG DEAL to me. I cannot simple replace $21.00 by working an hour, I'm unable to work.
I absolutely love the Pinery! You can’t beat the scenery and beaches. And we love to bike everywhere. The Park Store was severely short of the usual essentials and the restaurant hours are so short! We planned to have lunch and dinner but it was both times we went.
They took away the first come first served sites for camping: (. Would be a 4 or 5 star if corrected. The dog beaches are great but dogs must still be on a leash, which is weird. TomB
I love this place. Our trailer didn't fit in the site, but luckily it fit in our friends site. Be careful when you book and make sure you can get in the site you choose. You definitely need a bicycle as this park is HUGE! The store was well stocked. The trails were clean and well maintained. The beach is lovely. We will be going back.
Stayed in one of the bigger yurts, October 15-17/21. We have been going every year around this time for the past 4 years. Usually a great time, but this time the cleaning crew cleaned the yurts surrounding us on Saturday and for 5 plus hours they ran the leaf blowers while we were trying to enjoy our fire pit, had their breaks on the adjacent deck to ours, smoked on deck, disappeared into one of the yurts for a very long time. Seems these “housekeeping” personnel have a lot of extra time on their hands during cleanings. One of the elder ladies looked half drunk by the time she was done. Supervisor of cleaning services should really do a time audit of these people and re iterate get in, get out, and don’t disturb paying campers!
Nice park. Great kayaking area and a really nice 14km bike trail. RV dump and fresh water facilities can get very busy and the camp roads are really tight to fit a mid size 26ft travel trailer.
We love the Pinery. The pull through site was awesome, wide with lots of trees and folliage. It has electrical but no water or sewage so you need to fill up water as you enter and dump sewage as you exit the park. But line up was not bad.
Amazing park to visit in the off season Unfortunately over packed in the summer months making it noisy, hard to navigate around, especially at the campground offices. Should be updated to automated barriers for the registered campers to help reduce excessive long lines and idling cars. Been going faithfully every year for over 40 years and hope to enjoy this park for many more to come
Who shuts the power off at 5am on October 22nd. Weekend. But seriously love this place.excellent camping experience.been going for 20 years.great place to make friends.
The park is large, so is the beach. Lots of hiking trails, biking. Our site in dunes 4 sucked. Was a low spot in rain, fire pit was not level, bugs were horrible (mosquito at the site, flies at the beach).
Love it here. Great memories have been made with many more to come. Great campsites (there is some room between each campsite, which is great). Lots of trails and biking areas.
This is hands down my favourite Provincial Park in Ontario. Happy that it is within under an hour from home to experience nice long walks with the dog as short day trips. The camping here is also phenomenal and the beaches are great. Been coming since I was a kid and will never stop coming.
Best camping in Southwestern Ontario. Tons of beautiful sites. Lots to do: Beaches, hiking, kayak/canoe rentals, etc. Public facilities are clean. It's beautiful here.
We used the day use area. It was lovely. Clean, long, uncrowded beach for dogs and nice walking trails. The only things missing were more garbage cans throughout the day use area. Fair price and we had a very short wait in line to enter on a Sunday around noon.
This place never disappoints. It is one of Southern Ontario's most beautiful provincial parks. We enjoyed the Sandy rocky beaches. The bathrooms were clean We felt safe.
The stars at night were amazing at Burley beach. We hiked on the Carolinian trail It was a good workout. The Staff was friendly and helpful we can't wait to come back.
Awesome park, visiting family, never been there before. We'll have to put it in the list! Flies at the beach were horrendous, beach was beautiful and the water was perfect, no flies under the water.
Beautiful park! Slightly off the beaten trail. The dunes are gorgeous, tons of beach options. We usually take our bikes and do the interior trails, would love to camp here sometime!
This park is great. It has something for everyone. It is accessible. The beach is beautiful and sandy. The park is huge so plan for ways to get around (car, bikes, walking). From our site in Riverside it is a 10 km drive to the dog beach. We were there on a busy holiday weekend and it was great. There were a lot of people but everyone was respectful. The bathrooms and everything were kept clean and they have several drinking water stations around the park. They only have 2 dumping stations which makes it difficult at the end of a trip to dump (long lineups and waiting 30-60 min. Overall awesome park. One of our favourites!
Stunning little park! Highly recommend the Riverside & Wilderness trail. Beautiful boardwalk to the beach from the Cedar trail as well. Best to head to the park on a weekday before 9 am, it will get crowded later!
Holy amazing. Fantastic park and you're just a ten minute drive from Grand Bend. Enjoy the bustling beach there or retire to the slower paced beach in Pinery. Bring a wind shelter or something to block the wind!
Cool place, i only stayed one night but definitely need to go back, there's a network of small rivers that would be Great yo explore paddling and trails that would be great to walk or bike.
I've been coming here since I was a kid and I've always loved this place! The drive just going into the beach is stunning but the trails are just as gorgeous! Love this beach and park! I
Beautiful trails perfect family escape lots of activities fishing canoeing bikeriding restaurant in park clean bathrooms with showers and laundry facilities highly recommend it
Excellent place for camping and activities. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay. It was quite and natural. Biking trail is great. Beaches are serene, could be dangerous due to current. Loved the walk in the dunes.
Loved the experience for renting canoe/kayaks, dog beach, biking around the wooded forest and the ice cream is delicious! It’s definitely car camping though and can be a bit crammed for my liking. We are more into backpacking and tried this location as we were with our two dogs under 2 and our toddler son. Surprisingly everyone did well and stayed within our site but I love to be more in the wild and open area! We want to come back to the larger campsites near the dog beaches with a group, where we will feel more secluded. Great park overall with a ton of fun activities for young families.
We have come here all of our lives. Lots of camping and just beach days. We have never had a problem with cockroaches, until this year! They were everywhere in all of the campgrounds and even at the ice cream picnic tables! I feel bad for anyone who tented it, as 2e usually do.because they were trying to get into the trailer (a couple succeeded) and every time we sat at the picnic table, they were everywhere. At first we thought they were a different type of bug.but nope. And one flew at me. I didnt know they could fly. We kept our site super clean and kept the garbage in our truck or at the garbage dump area. The garbage are was overflowing when we got there, and again a couple days later. I wonder if that was the issue. They were so bad, noone wanted to sit outside. They were not at the beach, but the sand flies were bad there. I will continue to come for beach days.but my camping there might be over.
Fantastic place and staff very professionally run, lovely campsites and Canoe & Kayaks rental, for those hanging tarps over tents to keep cool and dry, the trees can be well spread out so bring 100ft of rope per tarp to tie off the 4 ends, each of the fire pits also has a flip over grate for cooking which is handy
Highly disappointed. First campground, EVER, that we have been denied access to view campsites so we could plan an upcoming camping trip. Wanted to charge us $17 just to take a quick look. The area itself looks awesome and inviting, so we can't give nature a bad review, just the rangers.
A very clean and nicely maintained provincial park. Spacious and tidy sites. Lots of amenities on site, including canoe and kayak rentals, ice cream parlour, restaurant, firewood etc. Lots of lovely views for photographers, especially on the Riverfront sites. The only drawback for me was the prevalence of poison ivy, sumac and oak absolutely everywhere that is even remotely off the beaten path (including trying to access the hydro on my site, impossible to avoid contact). I guess these plants occur in nature and that is what a provincial park essentially is, but they need to do a better job at clearing it around amenities and facilities. Other than that, love the place, will definitely be back.
Great park. Was searching for open ground to play Cricket but couldn't find one. Beach was excellent although there was challenge in finding parking at beach and that Enforcement officers were not patrolling Beach parking spots letting people hold spots and not allowing others to park. Our group did call office to send officer to clear up unoccupied parking but no one showed up.
Also had vehicle permit probably expired and the officer at entrance didn't point out and was fined by patrol. Wife got insect bite on face and feet so she couldn't enjoy.
We ordered food from outside for group of 40. Would have been nice if they would allow free food delivery inside for large groups.
We left a day early and couldn't get refund done. Internet signal is weak and only Telus network worked.
Bike trail was excellent. Adults enjoyed as much as kids. Hiking was also good and we also had great fun in canoeing, doing campfire.
Remember - the park is radio and noise free so don't expect to sit out with group at night campfire and gossip or make loud noises and not be warned/penalized.
Very nice park. Lots of hiking and great beach, looks like the ocean. Some canoeing but really limited to the 5 km in the park unless you go out onto lake huron
One of the best parks to go camping. The dunes campgrounds are great and in close proximity to the lake and river. Plenty of activities to keep you busy. They also have canoe/kayak rentals. Lots of trails to go exploring and overall great atmosphere
It's been hot but good. Only complaint is the shut down of things like the visitor centre during the week. Same thing in Bon Echo on June. Even shorter hours would ok but just because we are in the park mid week doesn't mean that everything should start shutting down.
Overall the experience at Pinery Provincial Park was good. The only problem was that the smaller washrooms did not have any light in the washroom, thus making it really hard to use it at night time. Also please keep the washroom clean because the toilet was clogged with toilet paper and no one had came to clean it. So regular inspection is a must. But overall great park, campsites were good and big and the ground was soft to place the tents. Probably going again next year!
What a fantastic place to camp and get away from the city. Nestled on the shores of Lake Huron you can enjoy the clean waters of this secluded provincial park. The first time we visited this park it had all beautiful sandy beaches, but this time around it was mostly a rock beach and the shorelines were noticeably smaller. Apparently, some years the park has sandy beaches and other years you'll get rock beaches, it's amazingly dependant on nature! Lots of hiking trails and no mosquitos when we were there, no bites at all! We will be returning next year.
Year after year our favorite! Love the campsites at Dunes 1and 2. Nice, large and private. The comfortstations are clean and well set up. Awesome beach, trails, river and oportunities for kids to explore nature.
Park is beautiful.it has all the facilities you can think ie flush toilet, bike rental, laundry, warm showers etc. Beach that goes for miles and miles (mind you it has little rocks so getting in and out is little issue but if you wearing water shoes you are fine). We ended up renting 2 bikes one with kids carriage it was alot of fun riding the bike along side river. They also have tandem bikes for rent which is nice. This park has restaurant as well.overall our weekend was gr8 even it rained 1 whole day but still had lot of fun and yes if you go to this park make sure to go to visitor centre my daughter loved it, wife had a good time there as well looking and reading about stuff. On the way back we stopped at Grand Bend which is only 15 mins away from the park.
