Portly Piper Pub Ajax

SOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOD! Just go! Like seriously go! A great gem in South Ajax in a corner and you've found the holy grail of comfort food in Ajax! Wonderful service from Brittany T, super nice, conversive and knew the menu and had recommendations for our first visit! The vibe was chill yet busy, the staff were a well oiled machine from what we saw. TVs all around with various sports if you're in to that. Beautifully dark wood finish and that old school pub feel. We got two pounds of wings; garlic parmesan dusted and pineapple curry which was OUT OF THE PARK Amazing! This is also the only other place that we've seen with Jaffna Fries and those had to happen! Everything was bang on for amount, quality, texture, taste and prices that were really well mannered to what you get! All around a beautiful experience from start to finish! The wings are a great size, nothing over sauced or covered so you still taste the chicken part! The Jaffna Fries were damn good! Spiced just right, tingly goodness! The fries were crispy and golden, nothing mushy. The kitchen staff know their craft and excel at it! All the food we saw coming out was just dressed to the nines and looking delicious! We're DEFINITELY going back and you should be going too! Sorry no pictures, we just dove in like mad!

I absolutely love the food from Portly Piper, and the fact that this location has a constant door of customers, supports the fact that the food is great, and the atmosphere is amazing as well. However, my only complaint that I have, is the difference in amount you receive when taking food out. I attached two photos, one is takeout, of course, and it comes with a separate container for the salad… Which is not included in the photo. The other photo, is the amount you receive when dining in. Now, it usually comes with potatoes, but my family and I always ask for, no potatoes extra rice. As you can see in the takeout photo, They barely give anything in the rice department. So the next time I went to the restaurant, I decided to dine in to see if the portions were still the same. Of course… They were not. All I can ask for is consistency, hint hint, the dine in portion. That’s not fair at all. Usually my mom and I split the dinner. Which is why it’s disappointing when you can see the bottom of the container when you choose takeout option.

I came Friday night to a loaded pub, so I decided maybe it was best to order out as it was ill suited for casual conversing. Don't get me wrong the crowds were a welcomed sight, and I was excited because I had heard many good things about the food and the owner. We ordered out using their website, and waited in the parking lot until the instructed time. When we picked up the food we could tell that the order was ready for quite some time as the fries were soggy, and some of the food wasn't hot anymore, but this was all understandable given the rush. We tried out a couple of dishes, and it was all solid bar food until I hit the side salad and got a mouthful of mold. I had to tap out, despite everything being good until that moment. My husband later came back from work and rummaged through the leftovers only to do the same, unfortunately confirming the state of the spoiled food. I should of given the pub a ring back to complain, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, and maybe it was just a one off accident. Will order again, and dine in. My rating will be updated as a better reflection in the future.

A friend of mine told me about this place and decided to go, and i gotta say best food I’ve tasted in a minute, place was swinging, packed, atmosphere was decent and clean, kids were there and atmosphere was good, food was finger licking good, we will be back for sure

Absolutely AMAZING caprese salad! Tomatoes are perfectly ripe, mozzarella is soft and super fresh! Balsamic glaze is perfect and not sweet! 10/10 so delicious!

The place is buzzing with people, atmosphere is nice but i don't go to restaurants only for that, i look for good food. Whatever 3 of us ordered fails to impress, it was below average. Fried chicken bites, tough to eat nothing special. The yorkshire beef wreaks of undercooked beef smell. My husband described it, "shaved deli meat with some sauce" The haddock fish chip all you are eating is the batter, where is the fish? I would give the place another try, this time only ordering wings. Lets see.

My favourite pub! The service and food quality is always consistent and up to par. The indoor atmosphere and indoor vibe is conducive to an excellent dining/social experience every time. You can find some of the best wings in Ajax here!

Have been going to Portly Piper for over 10 years now. Owners is great and always comes and says hi and asks how we are doing. Staff is friendly and food is amazing! Best pub in Ajax.

Portly Piper has an EXTENSIVE menu, yet still manages to impress me every time I order something new. Best gravy in the Durham region!

Cheyenne was an absolute gem. Taking care of a busy bar and managing to keep every guest happy, I'll be happy to come again and see her as my bartender!

Service has terrible the last three times I have been here to pick never ready on time. One time I picked up a order of 105.00 and missed so much stuff. I gave 3 to 4 chances and I just cannot do it anymore.

I don't understand how they are able to offer such an amazingly diverse menu. I try something different each time I visit and it always exceeds my expectations!

Food is always good! If there is ever a mix up which is rare they are quick and kind to fix it. Team is great, management is personable.

I went here with my parents, after looking at all the rave reviews! Food was just ok! We ordered the Lobster Dip and crispy chicken as starters, they were very very average- chicken was extremely overcooked! For mains we ordered the Halibut& Chips, the Lamb Burger and the Blackened Fish Tacos- Again average! Then Lamb burger was nice and juicy but lacked seasoning! Maybe I went on a bad day! The service was great and my server was awesome, but food was so average! I was a tad bit disappointed!

Solid pub, with lots of the expected pub fare. All the food is good, all the pints are cold. If you're not having a good time it's probably you. The bar is doing what a bar does.

Just got into Ajax for the 1st time and our hungry 4 looked for a place to eat. Consensus decided that the Portly Piper Pub would be the place. Make sure you are hungry when you go! Portions are ample and each of us had something different from the menu and each of us raved about what we had. Mine was Ribs with wings. The wings were huge and the ribs with meat that fell off the bone. Another had Mac n' cheese with braised beef. Another had a Thai salad which was loaded with good stuff and another had a burger which he said was quite possibly the best burger he had ever had. So to sum it up. AWESOME.
Our server was excellent and to put it mildly heroic. Prior to our arrival she had been stung by a wasp which she was allergic to and had to use an epipen on herself. Whereupon she continued to serve the rest of the evening. Thank you Portly Piper Pub for a wonderful end to our day.

1) staff does not follow any covid guidelines majority of them had the mask under the nose
2) when asked about the covid protocols a skinny man named Niv/Miv said he was the manager and was being rude to me and my wife. He mentioned that he has not even received his vaccine because his boss does not allow time off
3) We got up and left.

Another amazing experience here. I honestly have trouble trying out other restaurants. I know you're a pub, but your food isn't at all "pub food" its excellent, and your portions are awesome! If you're reading this review and are wondering of you should eat here. I truly recommend you do. I prefer to eat in the restaurant, but takeout is okay too!

Food was amazing. For such a huge menu you would think some stuff were ok. Not this place. Family 4 and we had touch all parts of the menu from ribs and chicken to pasta to seafood and all choices were excellent. Portions were large and were nice and hot. Service was great and covid protocols were good. Could have been a little better like cleaning and sanitizing the chair besides the table. Great place and definitely going back.

They have great fast service, awesome cocktails drinks, t.v. 's on every table practically to watch your favorite sports channels.excellent food on bayly.ajax.

Come with an empty stomach. The menu is wide, and it's always a good vibe. Screens fill the place if you're planning on watching the hockey/foot/ball game. If you can snag a booth, you might get your own private TV. It gets busy, but it's large, so chances are you'll get a seat. Reservations for groups of 10 and up

TL;DR: The food is great, the price is great. Try it if you haven't already, and if you have, try it again.

Portly Piper has consistently been a great place to go to. The environment is warm, the staff is friendly, the food is great and the prices are even better.

During the pandemic they have created a patio area outside the front door, which works very well. They've done a good job of making sure the tables aren't wobbly on the uneven ground, and provided parasols for every table.

The staff is very professional and personable. I appreciate their ability to remember our order, including additions or changes, and accurately relay that to the chef, who in turn also remembers our order. Other restaurants in the area have failed to do this as well as Portly Piper has been able to on a consistent basis.

The menu is varied, and almost every item seemed appealing to me and my girlfriend. The ingredients are fresh and unique. I could have made this whole review about their haloumi fries and still given it 5-stars.

The prices are phenomenal. My girlfriend and I got a lamb burger, a bison burger, haloumi fries, and a bottle of Dad's root beer for around $45. Not only would you be hard pressed to find what we ordered, it is unlikely to go out for dinner at any restaurant for under $60.

Overall, this Portly Piper is superb, and it will always be on the list when we make future dinner decisions.

I’m a huge fan of Portly Pipers! First time I went there was a year ago before the start of Covid and I lived the staff as they were to accommodate my large Filipino group who just walked in (I work in a restaurant myself so I know annoying it could be to see a huge walk-in party). They were able to accommodate and because of this, after Covid hit, I tried my best to support this amazing pub! I’ve ordered delivery from them before countless of

Terrible food with lack of flavor. Ordered several things today (2 pound of wings, onion rings, poutine, two beef sandwiches, chicken sandwich, pasta, Sheppard's pie, and some more). Regret ordering from here, not sure why it has high reviews. Usually, I am not very picky but it almost felt like they didn't care about what the food. Will never order from here again.

Best service and food I've had consistently in a long time!

We had a power outage in my area and I called to see if they were open the waiter was so nice and accommodating even when I got there he told me he made sure my food was cooked well and he was on point!

My steak was so good they turned a crummy homes experience into a nice candle lit dinner lool 100% recommend this place

Excellent food, friendly smiling servers. It could be a bit loun outside but they have quite space as well. I'm a regular now.

This restaurant is 5 stars, menu and inside dining has improved many times over the years. I dont think it can get much better.

I was thoroughly impressed by the food here. We ordered some ribs and the shepherd pie and it was flavourful. The meat falls off the ribs.very well done.

Didn't tell us on the phone that they had a 20 person wait list. They said first come first serve. We showed up 15 minutes later and they said there is a 15 minute wait list. Wasted our time and there's.

Ordered delivery from ubereats monday night. The Deep fried platter was amazing. Every item was made delicately. Cheesy garlic bread was so fresh. I could go on about each item i recieved.

My girlfriend and I ordered from here on Christmas Eve. We ordered almost 100$ worth of food. We had the calamari, fried pickles, cheese curds, chicken fingers and fries and the Southern fried chicken sandwich w onion rings.

All I can say is that it was possibly the worst food I've ever eaten (and Ive lived on military IMP's during basic training, so that's truely saying something). We ate maybe a quarter of what was ordered before we threw it out and ordered from somewhere else.

I will never recomend to others or order from Portly Piper or any other restaurant owned by the same owners ever again.

This place is a hidden gem! I'd never been here before but it came highly recommended by my cousin. Since we were in the area, we decided to stop in. I can safely say, I was most definitely surprised.

The staff was very friendly, the place was clean, and the food was amazing! You truly get what you pay for and then some at this place. They are big portions and every bite is packed with flavour! The prices are definitely reasonable as well.

We got crab cakes, and wings, in habanero mango flavour, to share. For our mains we had the chicken souvlaki dinner, chicken and mushroom risotto and the seafood and broccoli bowl. I had the risotto and being someone who likes a lot of flavor, I was definitely pleased.

I absolutely recommend this place for anyone wanting great food at great prices. I am definitely going back here again!

Love the honey garlic wings and I go there very often with my family. Food comes out quick and great service.

This place hands down has the Best wings in Ajax. Although the server my friend and I had yesterday was rude and seemed like she was rushing us out. We spent over 50.00 and while I was eating and my friend couldn't eat more of her food the waitress finally comes over and asks if we want 2 takeout boxes while I was still clearly eating my food. We asked if there was a way to change our booth tables tv channel but was informed other people were watching soccer and she wasn't able to change the channel to golf so might want to look into changing that. With this said most of the many experiences we've had here are good just yesterday this 1 server did not come off to kindly

Food is gud but pricey. Not a fan of takeout dips they are wrapped in tin foil and you lose a good portion of the food. To go bins worth the expense.

Great wings, nice size and skin is crispy. Half price wings on Monday, 70 cent wings on Tuesday. Very attentive service. Happening on a Tuesday night. Lots of screens with sports on.

A Crown Jewel among pubs and bars. Their nachos are the best I have had in a very long time. Wings are quite decent too.

The Portly Piper is my family's favourite local go to pub for a great meal. Lively atmosphere, fantastic service and value.

Food is good, service is relatively quick. The atmosphere is incredibly loud for regular dinner time rush. If you're looking for something to chat and relax I don't suggest.

This place is the best! My fiancé and I keep returning due to their extensive menu (they make everything under the sun and they do it well), the friendly, family-like atmosphere and incredible customer service. Their pricing is really good too. You can’t go wrong with The Portly Piper and their incessant crowd and bustle proves it!
