My biggest problem with Rankin's is their customer service (not everyone) they make you feel like they are doing you a favor by allowing to eat and drink there
That attitude starts with ownership / upper management and trickles down to the staff

Best breakfast in Hamilton especially if you like sausage instead of bacon

With Rankin's you always have to check the hours and make sure that they are open i.e Closed Monday / breakfast starts at 9 am not 7.30 am

Ownership will just raise prices rather than be open

This sums up the company:

COVID has killed a lot of businesses
Most places have been closed for months
The day the government says "you are allowed to be open and make some money"

Rankin's is closed

Ps: wings are great but SUPER EXPENSIVE
I think they may drop the price 2$ (wow) for "happy hour "
Don't forget to find out when happy hour is on (I think it is only 3 days a week)

Don't arrive early. We arrived early in the pouring rain in January at 858am. The owner stared at us while sipping his coffee. That was a real disappointment. Food is great

It was a Thursday when I found Rankin's purely by accident. And Thursday is Wing Night. Their wings are probably the best wings I have ever had. Comfortable place, super nice staff. I will be back

One of my favourite breakfast places (lunch and dinner good too). Two separate areas with the ability to accommodate a large group. Our Meetup group, Hamilton Foodies eats out weekly at at varying restaurants. Rankin’s is my favourite go to restaurant. I have never had a bad meal nor a cold meal there. Food always fresh tasty and piping hot whether it be breakfast lunch or dinner, small group or large. This is one you just have to try!

Ordered the Smokey Bacon Burger asked for Blue cheese instead of Cheddar they were very accommodating. Burger was good however fries were uninspiring they were very dry and no flavor almost like they had been precooked then just warmed up.won't order again. Service was excellent

Suicide wings were very tomato paste base with their homemade sauce. Good spice level though too thick of a paste rather than a sauce. Didn't grab a photo as we stopped in quick and I had left my phone.

Tried to go back today - Sunday. They closed at 3 right as I was pulling in. Quite strange to be closed on a Sunday in the summer!

My daughter and i had a wonderful breakfast here this morning. Good sized portions friendly staff and a very clean restaurant. Hannah and i will be back again soon.

Went to Rankins for the first time with a group of 4 people for breakfast today. Our server Shannon was excellent. Food was very tasty and very large portions for a decent price. We will all definitely be going back. And it was free parking Sunday right next door at the municipal parking lot.

Stopped in for late breakfast, visiting from Saskatchewan, staff was friendly and food excellent. Steak with 3 eggs, toast, and potatoes for $14.wow

Awesome place to grab some grub! Friendly staff, great food, and wonderful neighborhood atmosphere all around. Show this place some support, you will be glad you went.

Had a couple Barking Squirrels and the liver and onion dinner, very good to finally be on a patio!

I love coming to this restaurant for lunch. A great place to relax and have a bite. I like the Nickelodeon on the menu. And the staff is very friendly.

My first time here and was sad to say disappointed. My meal was delish and staff friendly which made it enjoyable. But what is online and what is actually on the menu was different. So we were all pumped to try our next new fav and sad to say burger it was!

Visited Rankin's just recently after eyeballing it for YEARS attending karate across the street with my kids. The patio has always looked so inviting. I read in my neighborhood's community group on Facebook that it was great for breakfast, and boy, were they right! Best omelet I have ever had at a restaurant. Nothing fancy (just veg) but cooked to perfection. Wasn't greasy at all. The homefries are amazing, as are the staff. Everyone seems to be z regular and the ambiance is so inviting and warm.

I was publically discriminated against and was refused service by the waitress. I called and asked for the manager but she was not available.

Good service. Great brteakfast. Sometimes my fries leave something to be desired.warmish not hot. I like the fish.

My mom and dad took my kids there because my family has run it for years and the place still looks amazing. The food was awesome and staff was as well. I miss you Louise:)

March 15/20 This past Sunday I went in for breakfast with my brother mother and gf, went to bathroom to wash up and overheard kitchen staff complaining about our late order. I mentioned this mishap out of discomfort of food being spit on. Nothing was rectified. Also owner was there and knew of this and apologized bought us a drink to ensure of us returning. I've been going since the 89 I wont be back.

The waitress was great but the burger was dry and fries tasted strange. Would probably be better if i was absolutely hammered or malnourished but its whatever.

Cold beer and great hot meals; along with cozy atmosphere - all of which make a bar. Finally, 2 thumbs up for their Clubhouse sandwich meal, both tasty and messy, all part of flavour!

Half my nacho are burned the bed of lettuce is maybe 3 or 4 small leefs my hot sauce for my wings taste so bad the only thing edible with my order is the potato skins. This is the worsted food I have every received in my life.

Rankin's gets top marks from me for ambiance, food, and service. It is a pub, and looks, feels, and acts like one. Nothing pretentious, but the closest thing to a British "local" that you will find in Hamilton. The menu has all the pub standards, but with some imaginative interpretations. For example, the Louisiana burger with pulled pork, jalapenos, cheese and Cole slaw piled on the patty, or my wife's choice with Swiss cheese and mushrooms. She pronounced it delicious.
If you like dark beer, may I suggest the Eighth Sin. Lots of other choices are on tap, both imported and domestic.
Rankin's is cozy, with pictures of the local high school's sports teams on the walls, and historical photos of the area.
But I cannot conclude without commending the staff. Warm, efficient, friendly girls all: Lori, Ruth, Shannon, Louise, and all, make our visits there special.
It's a Hamilton institution. I've been going there since I attended the local high school, and that was sixty years ago.

Shannon is a great bartender totally enjoyed our conversation I highly recommend this bar restaurant

After all these years, still one of our favourite places to go. Whenever we head into Hamilton to see friends or visit family we make a point of dropping in for at least a drink, often times a meal.

Great food, reasonably priced. Service is always fabulous.

The best thing about this place is the consistency. We're always pleased, never regret coming, never a hit and miss. I've been coming to this place regularly since the 80's. One of the best pub-n-grill spots on Southern Ontario.

Went for lunch. Staff are wonderful and food superb with good prices added on top! Would highly recommend.

Great place for breakfast and lunch, very friendly staff and good food. I enjoy the home fries and the breakfast burrito best, and the French toast is good too.

What a great spot.wish we had a local like this in our neighbourhood. Amazing feel, breakfast was a 10+ and Janice was super friendly. When in the Hammer, will be back for sure!

Everytime I've visited this restaurant we've had good service and great food. Food is always hot, fresh and delicious! They have quite a few choices on the menu, and I thoroughly enjoyed their western and fries, but most recently went for breakfast. The waitress recommended the "Benny Bowl". It was outstanding! That's the photo I've attached to my review. So good I asked if its served every weekend.yummy!

Rankin's is a home away from home, they are like family, and I love the warmth they show to everyone who comes in for a meal, or just to get out of the cold.

When moving downtown from uptown I was sad to be further away from the local pub I had grown to love. Then I found Rankins. The staff treated us like family from the moment we got there! Service is always amazing, food is great and the price point allows me to come again and again.

This is the best local restaurant! The food is delicious. The service is quick, efficient and friendly. The prices are good. There is very affordable parking right next door. We love Rankin's. It has been a meeting place and family-owned restaurant since 1938!

Best breakfast pleace in hamilton. Cant go wrong with steak and eggs or the peameal bacon with some eggs 10/10. Ohh and service best you will find

A cozy restaurant, with friendly staff. The food was good; I had the black bean burger and fries. We went on St. Patrick's day and there was a live band that was pretty good. I'm not sure if they play on other nights or only special occasions. Overall it was a fun night and I'd definitely do it again.

One of the best places in Hamilton to grab breakfast. Excellent homefries. Good portions. Not too crowded most times.

One of my favourite bars in Hamilton. This family run bar has great food and extremely friendly staff. They make you feel welcome when you walk in the door. The staff will talk to you as if they've known you for years. Daily specials are always worth a try. The covered patio in the summer is hard to leave when you've got a beer on the go. This is also heated in the winter! Also, they have great breakfast and not just on Sundays.

A fabulous bar and grill. Welcoming and lots of history on the walls. Great diner foods. Great selection of beverages.
