Ristorante Sotto Sotto Oakville

Was very excited to finally try Sotto Sotto and was left extremely disappointed. Our reservation at 7: 30pm took 15 minutes for them to find our table, food was mediocre at best, our server was barely present, and overall was just a lacklustre experience. Would much rather spend $300 for 4 people somewhere else.

Disappointing dining experience to say the least. Food wasn't the issue - it is slightly above average Italian food considering being in Canada. My concerns were the lack of professionalism, next to no welcoming atmosphere upon arrival, seating and overall treatment and service.

Being well experienced in terms of dining out, I have only written one negative review in the past. I felt compelled to write this review based on how the Manager made myself and my entire table feel. I would hate for any other diners to expect more from this restaurant, hence my review.

From the beginning, the server did not advise the high cost of water (4 bottles 100 dollars) I've attended 5 star restaurants, I understand water isn't free but this seemed ridiculous. There is no menu to outline this, nor was there a cocktail menu with pricing attached, and not to mention the server explicitly said gratuity was not included in the bill. It seemed while paying for the bill the server was just entering in values into the machine. When asked for an itemized bill, we had overpaid significantly and the server was in fact adding gratuity. My intuition tells me he was looking to overpay himself with tips. Being a group of women we felt that the restaurant didn't care to tend to us in a serious fashion. Our server was also inappropriate, stating he couldn't help but stare when taking orders and that retaining orders was difficult because he was too distracted. There are more mature and appropriate ways to pay compliments to young women.

Being called liars, and told to leave when we calmly trying to seek the attention of the manager was extremely disheartening and offensive. The Manager was agitated, aggressive and raised his voice when speaking with our table. We've never been treated disrespectfully before, this was very unpleasant and dampened the evening (this was also my birthday dinner). I honestly believe that if a man was at our table, there would be no way the Manager would have presented himself in this way. Not to mention, the two groups of middled aged diners who were sitting behind us staring, making inappropriate comments and laughing - I hope that if they had daughters, they wouldn't want them to be treated this way so I hope they understand their impact in lack of culture and manners. I would have imagined, in a more cultured setting (ironic since they pride themselves on being authentically Italian) they would have urged the other guests in the restaurant to mind their business and be respectful.

Sotto Sotto can take notes from management styles from restaurants like Allegro Ristorante if you don't want to drive downtown. This is also by far a better restaurant in terms of food, services and an overall dining experience. (you'd likely be paying 500 dollars min for two to eat at this restaurant but worth it from experience).

I'm not looking for anything from Sotto Sotto, nor would i expect from my experience they would care to redeem themselves. I'm just looking to save someone the time from going to this place.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a long time. Can never get resos at the Toronto location and was shocked to get a table for 12 on a Saturday night with only two days notice. Food is overpriced and mediocre. I’d even say Scaddabush is better. Dined with two toddlers and would not recommend. I ordered milk and they charged me for a latte. At the very least they could have served me a shot of espresso with it. We ordered their meals and asked for them to come out first but took an hour, along with our apps. We were aware that auto gratuity would be added to our bills but our server certainly didn’t deserve it.

I absolutely loved my visit and will be back again for sure. I will bring my friends here. Our waiter, was amazing, he was very attentive and pleasant. Their food was amazing especially their truffle lasagna, it was a special item and I am so glad I got it. Cannot wait to go back. I also want to try the Toronto location next.

Great food and atmosphere and the service is excellent. Fabio was very accommodating and made us feel like family.

Outstanding location for our family baptism. Delicious food with impeccable service. 6 children enjoyed tailored meals as well as 25 adults with 4 course sumptuous menu. Everyone raved about the cuisine.

Been here several times. Food has always been fantastic. The fresh pasta and fish are always really good. Tiramisu is home made and it tastes it.

Walk in & they all looked at us as if we were colored people & yes we are & then we encountered the Most pretentious waiter I have ever encountered. They started us out with warm tap water (which only half the table got it) & warm beers. The food was at the best one star (I’m being nice here. Should be zero star) Food was cold the pretentious waiter never checked on us. As a matter of fact no one did on top of that on the menu it say “party of 8 or more 20% grats will be add on. What god given right do have to charge us 20% on horrible food & service. Disgusting place. Please save your self money & go somewhere else

Great spot for authentic Italian. Had the carpaccio and veal piccata, house soup and sea bass.all on point. This is top shelf Italian not to miss.

One star because we received food. The manager served us and lurked around our table in a way that made everyone feel uncomfortable. He was exceptionally rude until one of our friends who is a younger woman arrived, he gave her grace and that was it. It was a very unwelcoming experience and I can't recommend staying away from here more.
Aside from the worst service possible, the food was not good. The pasta i had delivered from uber eats was better than the "fresh" pasta I ordered here.
Highly recommend spending your money elsewhere if you want a fun night out with good food.

I can never seem to get a reservation, I’ve called throughout the weeks at various times during the day and I always get some sort of explanation for having no openings but then get asked how many and when I say for 2 immediately I get a no. I then went on to explain my frustration and mentioned how it seemed they always want parties bigger than 2, the gentlemen went on babbling about something and I hung up. But here’s the best part a friend of my son knows the waiter possibly the owner and when he calls he asks to speak to that person and always gets a table for 2. I guess it’s who you know needless to say I will never go to this place ever!

Terrible, if I can give it zero I would! The only thing they have going for them is the atmosphere of the place. First of all, I’ve been so excited to try it and we decided to go valentines since it’s a special occasion but they literally ruined the night for us. The service was absolutely horrible, they even forgot about our table, we sat at 8: 30 and got
our food at 11: 20! It was absurd everyone around us that came after us got their food way before us and even left before us. I got the salmon since I’m pescatarian and it was literally raw and disgusting. They didn’t even do anything about it they just said they can recook it and I said no since I got disgusted but they didn’t even give us any compensation. As a 5 star restaurant they should be ashamed of this service and food especially for the value we payed $200 per person I was expecting way more than this. This was my first time at Sutto Sutto and will be my last will tell all my friends about this horrible experience.

Amazing experience- Fine dine Italian Restaurant. Food was amazing and the service was on top of the world. We tried Chicken Scaloppini, smoked Salmon Pasta and spaghetti and everything was tailored made fresh and service was quick as well. We had a reservation and had to wait for 15-20mins due to peak hours. It was our first time here and we were to celebrate a birthday of a friend and To our surprise, Restaurant Manager Phablo (I think this is his name - Sorry if I miss spelled it) decided that he won’t charge us anything for the meal and drinks. All to make the experience memorable for us. This was fantastic and one of a kind service. We are definitely gonna visit again soon with more friends.

It’s hard to find people like him nowadays who value the customers so much. Great gesture. Thank you so much Sotto Sotto. You are amazing.

Great tasty food and the service is extremely pleasant. I definitely feel like I'm in Italy in this restaurant.

Surprisingly the food was not amazing. Our pastas were a bit bland and lacked a lot of flavor. Service was okay.

One of the fines places in Oakville to eat! Out Hostess Natalia helped us for food as well as dessert recommendation! A must go, if you want to enjoy the finest meal.

We had lunch there and really like the restaurant. We ordered the minestrone soup, the portion was just right. The grilled octopus was perfect…melts in the mouth. The grilled calamari was also done in perfection, one of the best I’ve tasted. The tiramisu was truly wonderful. I already made a reservation to go for dinner with my friends later in the month.

The food was exquisite but the service was not the best.the waiter was rude and dry and I didn’t feel welcome at all even tho he was so nice to the table around us and he offered them a basket of bread and extra cheese for there pasta and he didn’t even acknowledge our presence there

We were hesitant due to the reviews but decided to give it a try anyways. We came to celebrate our 3rd anniversary. The atmosphere was okay, I felt as if they added one too many tables in the space. It felt overly crowded and not a lot of room to walk.

We got the truffle carpaccio and it was amazing, I would come back for this. We also go the Lamb and the Rigatoni, they were good as well.

The only thing I would complain about for service was when we declined dessert, she automatically brought the bill over. For me, it felt like she was trying to rush us out. Yes there was a 2 hour seating limit from what I was told, however we were only at 1.5 hours. What if I wanted to get another drink?

Not a big deal, but as someone who has been in hospitality I would have asked if they wanted the bill before dropping. I had a full Espresso martini still when it was brought over.

Went for a birthday dinner and will never go back I order The calamari and shrimp as appetizer not knowing it only comes with one of each the calamari I had no flavour tasted like char marks and shrimp wasn’t even cleaned very disappointing knowing that.for my man I ordered the Cornish hand and it was very salty and the sauce that it came with was burnt was extra bread and butter butter was hard from the fridge my cup had a chip in it and the waitress was very sarcastic there special isn’t on the menu So when asked to repeat was on the specials menu she was being very sarcastic and had an attitude

These people at this restaurant are the rudest individuals I’ve ever meet. I’m calling to make a reso and they gave me the run around and then when I called back to confirm they yelled at me. I’m trying to give them business and they don’t care about their customers. Downtown Toronto Sotto Sotto is great but Oakville location is horrific.

It's a decent upscale Italian restaurant. The dress code here is formal. Service was great and friendly. The atmosphere was amazing, mostly due to the architecture of the Randall Residence, but also the pictures hung up on the wall were tasteful.

I entered in a group of 3 others. I had the carbonara, it was great, I think it was authentic, great portion size, the same goes for the Cacio e pepe. The Regina di Cuori was great too. However, the antipasto cordonia had an offensively small portion size. Be careful, they charge you for the water and it's not cheap either. The price for the water is ridiculous regardless of where it comes from or its quality, especially in Canada where good quality water is dirt cheap.

For desert I had the tiramisu. It was made the authentic Italian way. It was great. Don't order if you have any allergies to raw egg though.

Overall, this place has a lot of potential to be an amazing restaurant, but there are some small bits holding it back.

Left a message yesterday at 10: 21am to get a table. Not even the courtesy of a return phone call. Luckily Oliver’s around the corner did get back to me and we had a lovely dinner there.

Amazing Italian by Oakville Lakeshore. Vegetarian friendly. The restaurant itself is beautiful and so is the food.

Pasta is cooked perfectly al dente and is flavourful. The broccoli pasta is unique and a must try.

The risotto is a stand out dish. Great texture, creamy sauce and lots of mushrooms. Such a huge portion that must be shared.

The wine selection is top notch. All price points here.

Dessert cant be forgotten about either. The cannoli is real star of the show here. Nice crispy shells with a mild chocolate infused ricotta topped on a raspberry drizzle.

By far the rudest staff I've ever dealt with. We dine at the top restaurants in Toronto and surrounding areas all the time and I have never been so disrespected. We were running a little late for our resos but agreed to leave within the time slot they gave us. The staff called me back screaming at me and hung up the phone in my face. Obviously we decided not to dine here for the night and detoured our plans but wow, completely shocked with this treatment. Very disappointing!

Amazing restaurant with a very nice ambiance. The food is amazing and staff are very very kind. Tiramisu desert was especially well made.

Sotto Sotto is recognized as a premium Italian Restaurant in Toronto and continue this legacy in Oakville. Buon Appetito!

From the moment we walked in the door we were greeted by friendly staff. Our table wasn’t ready so we were offered a seat at the bar and enjoyed a drink while we waited. Once seated the food and selection were great and our server Julia was fantastic. We had read the reviews had also dined at their Toronto location and we were incredibly happy that we tried the restaurant for ourselves. We can’t wait to return! Great food, atmosphere, wine and staff!

Below average italian food with a hefty price tag. Pretty disappointed as I expected more from this restaurant. Service was non-existent (no asking us for refills on water or wine or fresh pepper or the dessert menu, etc.the server was actually quite rude half of the time as if he had somewhere better to be. The food was mediocre at best and we tried about 10 different thing on the menu. They also forgot to bring a couple of menu items to our table that we ordered which was disappointing as well. Ambiance is nice, but unfortunately that's about it. Would not recommend.

Right from the get-go we had to wait. Wait to be seated after our reservation (which we were fine with considering it's a weekend) ; wait for our water and beverages; wait an hour for our appetizers; and again, wait for our entrées.

My boyfriend and I tried several safe selections for our first visit, but all were quite underwhelming. Unfortunately, the service was also just as underwhelming. The young bus boy was more attentive/helpful than the server himself. Granted, it was the server's first day.but for a certain restaurant like this, we expected better service/food.

We ordered: the clams, the meatball, the Regina pizza, and the bolognese pasta. We don't recommend any.

My restaurant experience was subpar. All attendees are crowded into one area of the restaurant and our tables were far too close to each other for comfort - definitely within arm's length of each other. You can't talk at a normal volume without feeling like you are disturbing people around you. I couldn't imagine that there are more than 15 tables in the entire restaurant. Our food was okay - there wasn't anything on the menu that I felt would be a unique Italian dish that I haven't tried before. Our dishes lacked a lot of flavour, in general. There is a dress code for the restaurant, which is a bit odd, since the restaurant offers nothing 'black-tie' - there was nothing extravagant about the restaurant at all. I may have felt more in place with a pair of jeans and a semi-dressy top. My friend and I had two glasses of prosecco, a calamari/shrimp appetizer, a pasta and a panzerotti with one cappuccino and our bill was $150 - $198 with tip. Our experience was nowhere near that price. I'm not sure if I would give this restaurant another try. It is disappointing, since this restaurant had been near the top of my wishlist for a couple of years.

Went with 2 other couples. Restaurant extremely loud. Was told no substitutions. Vegetable choice was broccoli, rapini or swiss card. No one at table liked rapini or swiss chard. Luckily we received broccoli. Have no issues with no substitutions had we been told on phone when making reservation or if the meal was paid for by the chef! If we (customer) are paying we should be able to request 1 of the 3 vegetables available.
The veal lemone was only average at best.

Terrible service. It was 1 hour before we received a menu or wine. And when the wine was finally brought to us we were presented with unwashed wine glasses. How you pick up unwashed glasses and put them in front of people is beyond me. Disgusting! And the response was it’s busy so someone must have put them in the wrong spot. Hum really that’s a basic in the restaurant world which means you don’t have basic standard practices in place, inexcusable. Will not ever return.

Let me start by saying that I am a long-time patron of the Toronto location and have never been disappointed. I have wanted to try the Oakville restaurant for some time and was very very excited to get a New Year's Eve reservation. Other than that – that's where the positive comments end.
While the location is superb and the building is elegant, the restaurant itself is a dump. Absolutely no style what-so-ever. Cramped space, with tables too close together, zero atmosphere (especially at the holidays) unless you consider the brown/dying plants as a barrier to the other table in front of me and the pile of boxes and other recycling clogging the window of the wine cellar that my partner and I were seated up against. Also, the washroom was filthy and tacky. The plastic plants and pile of dirty water under the hand dryer was especially gross. Shocked (totally). Now that I've set the ambiance – let me share our 'experience. '
We walked in for our 9pm reservation, not greeted by anyone so I boldly said hi to the woman behind the bar. Someone came over and led us to our (tiny/squished) table. No one took my full-length coat, so I had to drape it over my chair with the bottom dragging on the floor and spilling into the path of the passing servers.

There was a lame oil lamp on the table. The server came by and said, "oh looks like we didn't light the candle" and proceeded to walk away without lighting the candle. The place setting was a joke. Two dinner forks and two dinner knives each.
We ordered a glass of wine each (rose and white). They were both room temperature. I ordered the arugula salad and calamari/shrimp combo. My partner had the Caesar salad and lamb. My salad had some lettuce, 2 tiny cherry tomatoes and some shaved parmesan cheese. What a joke for $18. His Caesar was very mediocre and more croutons than "good stuff". My calamari were rubber and tasteless. I was starving so I ate about half. The shrimp was atrocious. The shell was fused to the meat, and I had to use my hand to attempt to get a bite. I gave up. My husband's lamb was also tasteless, in a watery broth.
No one asked if we wanted fresh pepper – I had to ask for some pepper. It was table variety – not acceptable for a "high-end" restaurant. Close to the end of the dinner, the server asked, "did you want any bread at all with your dinner? ". Ahhh no thanks. Ridiculous.

We ordered one slice of tiramisu – it looked sloppy but was the best thing about the whole experience. For the pleasure of what was listed above, we paid nearly $300. We are not wealthy people who eat out often and this was a HUGE treat. I cannot tell you how outrageously disappointing the meal was. I wish we'd stayed in and cooked. We'd have saved a bundle and the food would have been edible.
I'd be happy to accept a refund and spend it on the Toronto location. Really really unacceptable experience.

Just terrible on all levels. Service was lousy and it felt like they brought in temps to ‘help out’. Food was completely tasteless. Wine was warm. Price was about 3 times the ‘value’. I will never return and hope if you’re reading this that you have been warned. I am having a hard time believing that the Toronto location is affiliated. I can’t imagine that they are just standing by reading brutal review after brutal review and doing nothing to fix the disaster that is your Oakville location. People have choices - AMAZING Italian in Oakville - Cucci, Pasquale’s, Justino’s, Piano Piano… spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

Ambiance, service and food were outstanding! We were so impressed! This location destroys their Yorkville location in terms of food (respectively).

Visited the night of Nov 16. I had the seafood pasta and the food was great and portion size for the price was good. Atmosphere and service was nice and attentive. The only issue that night was the server moved my sister-in-law pasta dish to quick forward and it all shifted back out of the plate. Not sure how none of it landed on my wife, but lucky it didn’t because that would have been a situation. The staff apologized and quickly cleaned the table and replaced the dish. Would have rated the experience a 5 star, and I understand mistakes happen, but I also understand recovering from an unfortunate event. Deserts on the house would have been nice as a token of good faith and for the GM to stop by and check it in.

Is this the same Soto Soto from Toronto? Can't be! I'm not sure what was worse; the food or the service. The sea bass, which should be delicate, moist, and flavorful, was covered in olive oil so the only thing I could taste was olive oil. The cesare salad was even worse, the dressing was like a watered-down version of Kraft dressing. Big disappointment, especially given the fond memories from the Toronto location.

I am percent loyal to local Oakville restaurants and I am super thrilled when new refined restaurants enter the local market but… I am a foodie with tons of culinary experiences world wide … so

Good - Osso Bucco - carefully prepared and braised.

Bad - Service - tad disappointed - we should never wait … not for water or wine … I am happy to pay a premium for food and service but make us feel special - it is a basic.

Ordered a carbonara and it was one of the worst I’ve had. The saltiness was extremely overbearing, and it tasted boring. Also, the bread was stale and hard.

The service did not make up for the below average food, as our waitress was fairly rude and uninterested.

I do not recommend this place, and would not come here again.

Whoever is taking reservations on the phone, is giving a terrible customer service. Called to make a reservation and couldn’t believe how rude the person was. No matter how good the food is, customer experience always needs to be top level.

Lovely location and classic Sotto food. Unfortunately the new wait staff need a lot more training.
