Things to note.they will not answer the phone before 8am and it is extremely difficult to find their hours on their website. Backstory. I went “early” to pick a car up in Toronto. I called a few times when I was at the Toronto Airport. I kept getting a recorded message and could not get anyone to pick up the phone when I pressed the shuttle request option. I tried to get customer service, the prompt led me to their website as did their hours of operation request. I final found via Google that they did not open until 8am. Luckily it was 7: 55am. Other than that snafu, the staff were very nice and courteous. Car was spot in. No issues. Easy transaction. Gurjeet Singh was very professional when I returned the car.

Very good customer service and brand new vehicle! The team was quite accomodating when I needed to extend. Will definitely rent from them again. Hermon and Jasdeep were quite courteous, pleasant and helpful. Vehicle was a 2024 jeep wrangler brand new.

I am very disappointed in how this company handled our business. We parked our car with them and when it was time to pick us up from the airport they didn’t come saying they closed at 10: 00 p.m. We called them at 9: 40p.m to tell them we would be ready by 10: 30 at the latest. We were ready by 10: 15p.m. Because our flight was changed after we booked the parking. Their customer service sucks. I will never use them again. On top of that their business hours are listed from 7: 00a.m. To 11: 00a.m so they screwed us not only for a hotel room for the night but to add insult to injury they asked us to pay for an extra day of parking. Never again. Buyer beware!

I paid Expedia 1200$.
Expedia said visa debit and deposit would be acceptable.
I didn't find where to pick my car up at toronto airport before routes closed. I spoke with customer service from routes I forming that I'm having difficulty finding shuttle and I had less than 30 minutes before they close. No offer to help find shuttle but verbal directions that were hard to follow around a large airport. Airport staff didn't know where to send me either. Very stressed out traveling alone.

Found shuttle next day as I sat on the bench all night once I found it. The fellow said they.require a visa. I showed my receipt from Expedia. I was refused my rental by routes.

Sending emails to customer service Expedia said the 1200 was given to routes.routes said I needed Expedia to refund. Expedia said routes. Numerous emails between routes and Expedia failed them to refund me nothing. I got charged 1200$. No car.no refund.no support. Emails from felt like they were laughing at me. I am a single mom worked hard to save this money. Crooked.crooked.crooked

Scam, Scam, Scam. Booked on Priceline Where it says free Kms. They say we charge them 0.20 cent on van per km once u rent it up. Once u rent the car u are stuck with their terms and conditions which is never disclosed and u are made to sign them. Then they say we cant do anything thats 3rd party website. NEVER GO TO THEM

I'm a customer of a famous rent a car in the Toronto area. But I saw a grand ad by Hopper that they offer $30 rental for a day. I thought, that was cool. I booked through the interface of Hopper but in the end, I ended up at Routes Car Rental who provides the car. When I checked the policies, I found out that for local residents (Torontonians), there's a hold of $1,500.00 on the credit card. I continued my research and found some bad experienced by customers. I attached a photo. After reading that review, I cancelled my reservation. I think I will be back to my existing car rental who provided me great services and fair charges over a couple of years.

Booked a mini-van with this company via Expedia for parents who were visiting Toronto for 10 days, the rental amount which comes to approximately $600 was already payed at the time of booking. Went to Routes Car Rental to pick up the van and they did not accept the method of payment provided for the deposit and therefore did not give us the vehicle. Now they refuse to refund the money for a vehicle that wasn't picked up. I can understand a penalty but to keep the entire amount without providing the service is plain scammer practice.

**Reply to response below: Still a scam when you charge full amount for services you did not provide for whatever reason even when it is in the fine prints of your policy. (A penalty would have been much more appropriate). Furthermore the booking was through a third party and not your website.

Booked a car with Expedia and paid the full amount. After arriving at their location they said to me that they will not allow a G2 license, but only a full G. There is no single line about it in my terms and conditions (attached screenshot) with Expedia. Just lost my 40 bucks and I had to take the car with another rental company. Called Expedia about it, they said the terms are not updated on my ends etc.etc. I would not recommend this rental company, as if they manage third-party companies they should better properly circulate their terms in detail and pay attention to what customers are experiencing. I have no complaints about their types of cars, budget or customer service, etc.and nothing personal with them. Finally, I proved and convinced the Expedia guys that the terms and conditions I got were not reflecting what Routes declared.

Terrible. I pre-paid for 3 days rental to pickup a car from Pearson airport in Toronto. They told me to call them from the airport for shuttle pickup. I called them but no one picked up the phone. After wasting 2 hours I ended up renting a taxi to go to my hotel. Now they are not refunding my prepaid money.

Probably the worst rental car company out there. They charge a 1500$ hold for domestic rentals. Their prices are high, vehicles are unreliable and have the worst customer service. DO NOT BOOK ONLINE, I repeat DO NOT BOOK ONLINE, when you arrive they'll try to charge you more. Foreign travelers stay away, book with one of the larger companies because Routes will try to scare you into paying more. Do not rent from here. This reviews you see that are posting 4 and 5 stars are from staff and their friends. This place was featured on CBC marketplace for being a rip off.

These guys deserve ZERO STAR rating but couldn’t do that. Routes Car rental (at Toronto airport) are an arrogant lot. They turned down booking done through EconomyBookings at the counter because they don’t accept international MC credit cards for insurance. Even after being told that two other vendors accepted it for much longer rental periods but they pride in being superior. As you can imagine they are preying on travelers by putting them in a corner and leaving them no choice to accept their conditions or walk away and go through the inconvenience of looking for another company. I rented so many times from Routes. Their customer service is excellent. If you read terms and conditions carefully.you will get the car in 5 mins in an excellent condition. All their cars are mostly brand new. I highly recommend people to use their service.

Don’t waste your time with this company. Their customer service is severely lacking and even months later you will still be getting random charges on your credit card from these frauds! First, when I arrived at Pearson, I had to walk forever to go find a phone they request that you use to call them. After calling, you sit outside in the sun waiting for the shuttle to arrive. Once at routes it takes at least another 30-45 minutes to get the car.
We paid for a gps, they said they had none and refunded us. Fast forward to nearly 3 months later and we were charged for a gps! They don’t have an actual number to dispute claims so you have to email them and wait for days to hear back. We’re finally getting back a refund for the gps issue. But in the same breathe they’re now telling us we owe for toll fees! These people have the worst business model! Not to mention, we had to park outside their building at 2 in the morning, drop our keys in a box and pay an uber to take us back to the airport because they don’t operate around the clock. So bear that in mind when booking with these people. Over all it’s been a very disgusting experience. No ending to the hidden fees, incorrect fees and inconveniences! I would never ever recommend them! Not even to my worst enemy!

Given the negative reviews, was weary of renting from here. However, everything worked out smoothly. Just be prepared with insurance info and the deposit etc. Friendly staff and easy shuttle service.

I had a lengthy check in (40 minutes). Their number doesn’t get you to one of the employees to arrange for shuttle from airport, and the phone menu is confusing. I had to call airport information to speak to one of the employees. Car was however in excellent condition. Off location makes it tricky for pick up and return. Will probably use them again knowing now how to contact them properly.

I don't know about routes car rental here but I booked the rental from rentalcars.com on the internet. By the way never book your rental from rentalcars.com (bunch of scam artists). What happened was after I booked the rental I didn't realize that the rental car pickup time is the same as the flight landing time at the airport. Now it takes about a good 45 minutes to come out of the plane to the this Routes car rental location. You have to take the train and then call them to come pick you up. So even if I had my pick up time at 9 pm I still would've missed it if the landing time was delayed 15 minutes.
Anyways, you cannot call their local office directly. Route's car rental phone number is a voice command thing where you have to press a lot of keys to get to the right thing.

I came from US and was not sure about Car rental companies here in Canada. I usually rent car from Hertz but this time I tried Routes Car Rental. I am totally impressed by their service. One of their employees Roop recommended me Ford Explorer and guided me some of the good places to see around Toronto. She was very patient with the process and I think she gave me the best price possible. I cant wait to come back again and rent car from this company again.

We were worried because we saw that this place did not have the best reviews, but upon arriving and departing we had a great experience! The prices are great and they have a shuttle which will take you from the Pearson Viscount Station to their rental car service. Highly recommend if you are planning a trip to the GTA area. One star off for not being open during some hours, as it is still quite a distance from the airport - so we had to book a taxi since their shuttles did not operate at that hour.

This is a scam. Please do not book through this car rental. They will give a better price and ask you to pay online before picking up the car. When you go to pick up the car, they will give you excuses. I paid online for the rental online and when I reached at their location they said they wont be able to get me the car. When I asked my money back, they said as I have paid online I have to talk to the customer care and they did not help me at all pursuing the case by themselves. I paid $ 100 and did not have my car and then I had to book through other rental company. My 2 cent advice is 'DO NOT PAY ONLINE TO THESE SCAMMERS AS THEY ARE GIVING BETTER PRICE'. Please book cars from rental companies where you can pay physically at their location.

Addendum: After looking at other reviews it seems similar experience with other customers. And I am sure they will respond to this message saying 'please email to the customer care service'. And very sure high star ratings being given by their own people. SO, PLEASE AVOID THIS SCAM COMPANY.

Customer service is the worse. If you book online through their partnered party “Discover”, they will not take responsibility and make you work for their error. Do not rent here. They overcharge and falsely advertise. Read other reviews before buying into the lies. They give me a receipt that is a lot lower than what I paid, charged me extra and tells me after fully paying, they have to hold 1500 on my credit card. If I didn’t have another credit card which also they don’t tell you before fully paying, that’s how they will try to get you. The manager and workers there will tell you it’s not their problem, then try to make some sort of excuse to charge me more. I’ve rented cars before and this was the worse experience I’ve ever had. Rent anywhere but here. Routes deserve O stars!

Those who are wronged by this company report them to the consumers board. They have the same pattern of ripping people off.

False advertising for their cargo van and were not willing to honour what they advertised. Horrible customer service staff, who are not keen on finding a solution just want to reiterate a policy that they know does not make sense. They admitted to falsely advertising and still did not honor what we originally believed we were getting. Would not recommend this place for rental.

UPDATE: Tried to speak with routes to resolve this, they chose not to help and gave me the same run around as everyone else has experienced in the reviews below. Their employees were also not wearing masks when speaking with us, on top of not wanting to find any solution to help the situation. Save your time and money by not going here to rent, there are many other car rentals that have standards in place. While I understand we are all struggling through the pandemic, its disgusting to falsely advertise and force customers to have to go with what ever deal you placed in front of them last minute.

Also, if you have this happen to you here, REPORT them. This is not allowed in Canada and should be reported.

Great prices. Shuttle buses are available at the airport to drop you off at the location. The personnel is very helpful and friendly I got an upgrade for almost nothing thanks to Roop (check the picture).

So I payed online and booked my reservation with these guys. Came here to discover that they need to hold 1500$ for a 300$ rental? So first of all not once was I informed of this 1500 dollar hold but then they wouldn't accept a payment to be refunded either. So they took my money no problem for the rental itself but when I come to pick the car up I can't now? How does this make sense? Your policy is losing you customers, and some leniency in these times of covid would have been appreciated. I will never use this rental company ever again and I would not recommend to anyone. Ever.
I go home to request my refund and am being told I will not be getting my money back. So 300$, a ride here and home plus my time wasted? Can I sue these people? ! How can they just rip people off for hundreds of dollars?

My clients from abroad required a car for an extended period, and Roop took extra good care of me and of them, going out of her way to ensure the rental was facilitated and a special request accommodated. I have nothing but kind things to say about all my interactions with this rental car company and their staff. Himadri and Roop were kind, respectful and dedicated to providing exceptional customer service. On top of that, their vehicles are always clean and rate are fair.

I literally leave Toronto just to rent at this location. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed!

Worst car rental experience ever! I made a 10pm reservation, used the courtesy phone as instructed to call for a shuttle at 10: 10pm, but was unable to reach them. I tried them continuously for the next hour by courtesy phone and personal phone only to find out they closed at 10: 00pm. When I was unable to reach the company, I sent email to their customer care center and called them the moment they opened the next day. They said our reservation had expired, and they didn't have any cars available. They refused to send a shuttle so I could talk to someone in person, they would not share when the reservation had been released, etc.etc.etc. Stranded on Christmas! Horrible, horrible horrible!

Not sure how this place received such high reviews. I booked a car with Routes from a 3rd party rental website, where my invoice mentioned a limit of 3500km. When I arrived to pick the car up, I was told I am only allwed a total of 800km even though my pre-paid invoice mentioned a 3500km limit. I was told they dont care about what the invoice says and can only offer me a total of 1600km free km to cut me a deal. Extremely unhappy with the service. The rental car was filthy and was empty on gas when I picked it up. I recommend to not use this company.

You didn't take my card because it didn't have my name in it, in Mexico sometimes it has your name and others don't, and you didn't specified that. I didn't have that problem with other companies for car rental, such as Hertz or Alamo, there's a hughe difference in the service, when you said "there's nothing we can do" and the other companies when they saw there was no name on the card they said "let's find out what we can do. " that's a good customer service. My card was a Gold American Express, and it has no prelimit founds. Besides when you want to rent a car at the airport, that's what you're looking for, not taking train shuttle, and then another car shuttle to get to the place where you want to get the car.

Además, dan un precio a la hora de reservar, y como dice en otras reseñas (que no son falsas), te piden que hagas pago de un seguro para el auto, lo cual es entendible, pero que no es barato, y además tener que pagar un deducible de "miles de dólares" dependiendo el seguro que contrates, "es más barato si pagas el seguro en días previos" cosa que no te enteras sino hasta 24 horas antes (que en mi caso fueron de estar viajando y no tenía tiempo para andar haciendo trámites), y al llegar a la oficina. En otras compañías pagas el seguro por el tiempo que rentas el auto, y no hay necesidad de pagar deducible.

This is a nice rental company it is my first time using them as everything was booked at the airport. The rental was not cheap (but again it was a long weekend so they will maximize their profit like any other business when they are the only that can deliver). There is quite a few surcharges like administrative fees for processing tickets, although their coverage appear to be cheaper than the other big companies. The staffs at the counter were super friendly, our driver from the airport to the office was "reserved" had headphones on and was not talking. The shuttle picked us up after 30min.
They upgraded us to a nice SUV. I will definitely recommend them to others.

Rude, ignorant and no concept of customer service. Waiting time was horrendous and staff had no sense of urgency. To top it all off, I left my lumbar support on the drivers seat. When he moved the car, he must have seen it on the drivers seat but said nothing when coming back in to finish the paperwork. Would not use these again.

Expedia did not include that they need an international driving license in their policy and only knew about that policy when I got there. They wouldn’t accept my license even though I used it in the US and Europe many times. The service is very bad and the ladies working here are very unprofessional. (Note: my driving license was in English)

Bad experience in terms of two issues, not just with me but even other customers who were present when I was there.
1. They say unlimited kms but keep in mind this is only for out of province drivers. Local customers get only 200kms per day.
2. They do not accept some kinds of credit cards insurance and your insurance policy coverages.

Always advisable to call them beforehand and confirm all the questions.

This was the worst experience I have ever had at a car rental company. If I could rate them below a one star I would have definitely done it. I highly recommend people to NOT RENT from them. They have no idea what customer care means. We felt humiliated when we walked out of the car rental. First off they don’t accept G2 licensed drivers which was buried deep in their fine print. Secondly, my friend tried to help by providing her international drivers license and they wouldn’t accept that either. We couldn’t rent a car due to this which we were disappointed about. However, the bigger problem was that they wanted to charge us approximately 100 bucks even though we didn’t use their service. When we asked who we could talk to about that, their response was we have a “customer care” team and when we asked for contact information, they could only provide an email. I’m sure it’s the staff who were present at the location who were probably responding to these emails. We haven’t heard back regarding the refund yet but I sure hope they refund us.
