The RBG Arboretum is always a fun place to finish regardless of season - there's so many trails that lead you up the hill, down to the lake and marsh land, pass through some board walk and nature trails, plus smaller gardens. There is a small fee to park your car, but otherwise you're able to walk around without issue. The longer trail loop will easily take over an hour, up to 2 hours.
Waited for months for a free pass from the library. Showed up with my free pass to enjoy a day on the trails and found it still wasn't free, they now also charge $10 for parking. Drove to Laking Gardens instead and ended up leaving there without going in when I saw the 'pay for parking' sign and meter. Very disappointing.
What's the point of offering free passes to access the RBG if they're not free passes? If the primary way of accessing a site is by car, a free pass should also cover parking otherwise its not a free pass, its a discount.
I left and went elsewhere where I can hike without paying entrance or parking fees.
Although i enjoyed the visit of the garden i felt that it was a little underwhelming. I visited in May which was maybe not the best season. Staff was very nice and efficient though.
Lovely area, lots of wildlife and hiking for beginners! Great to get into some fresh air any time of the year! Also, well worth purchasing the yearly pass so you can visit all of the RBG parks!
Whether you like cultivated flowers or wildflowers, this part of the RBG is spectacular. Great for photographing the myriad flowering trees and shrubs; e.g. Magnolias, redbuds & lilacs in spring. Carry on down to the forested shores of Cootes Paradise for a more natural experience with many wildflower and bird species.
I went on a bus tour and was a little disappointed to find that the shuttle at RBG was not running that day so it would have been impossible to see all the POI we wanted.
Thankfully we stumbled across the Mediterranean garden, located in the information center, and we were not disappointed.
The Hydrangeas were exploding with colour, and the walk through the rest of the garden was lovely.
The outdoor gardens were a little disappointing as we only came across on Peony plant, Oshawa gardens have a much better showing for these. Maybe they were in the gardens we couldn't access but I can only comment on what I've seen.
The Wisteria, that hung over the walking bridge, were spectacular! My picture didn't do them justice.
Wonderful experience, Lilacs are beautiful this time of year, gorgeous garden and collection here at the RBG, highly recommended and encourage you to visit
Used to go here on a weekly basis when I was a little girl; they used to have live animal displays, taxidermied specimens etc. Rarey visit; there's just so much outdoorsy stuff to check out instead.
UNBELIEVABLY GORGEOUS. This place is heaven on earth. I visited on my birthday April 26th. That was Cherry Blossom week. I also saw some Magnolias. They have kept the place nice and clean and parking is right on the spot. I will visit again and again!
Very large park with limited parking. Be prepared to do a lot of walking and see many people. We did see a beautiful cherry tree which became very popular with omany others.
