Roywoods Square One

The oxtail was my highlight. It tasted really good. It was as tender as I wanted. It was also well spiced and marinated with every part of it tasting the same. No sour or tasteless parts of the oxtail. The seasoning was consistent across board. I would recommend this.

I also had the fried plantain. Not overrating it because you can hardly ever go wrong with plantain.

Only feedback is, my oxtail plate came with rice which I wasn’t expecting. I just wish I knew it would come with rice.

Overall, good.

Had the jerk chicken sandwich. Excellently flavoured, large portion perfect for lunch and includes a pop.

I’ve been to this location before and I don’t know who cooked the oxtail but it’s undercooked. It’s hard and not tender. The meat is really tough to eat.

Usually it falls the bone but it wasn’t. I’m surprised they would serve this to the public.

Complete trash probably the worst jerk chicken i've ever consumed and the coleslaw was old and curdled that would get you sick. Very shameful.

This place is not honest. They are running out of some items and offer us to get a large plate for half and half for other items. However, they use the higher price item to charge for the food item when two items are having different prices. This is dishonesty practice. Should not be recommended.

My fiancé ordered take out from here yesterday. He got the large oxtail plate and 2 jerk chicken sandwiches. It wasn’t until he got home yesterday that he realized that he was given a jerk chicken plate instead, and he did not receive any pop that was supposed to come with the sandwiches. Really disappointed. Food is good otherwise.

Staff were pleasant but the food mainly the fried chicken wasn’t worth it to me rice and peas and coleslaw were all good. Maybe because it wasn’t traditional Jamaican fried chicken. The festivals were not it either. Especially for the price!

I live right across the street from square one, so I've come to this location quite a few times. The prices are pretty decent however, wish the portions were a little larger. I have tried the fried chicken and the jerk chicken - personally I am not a fan of the fried chicken however, the jerk chicken is amazing. I will say there are some days where the jerk chicken is really spicy - still really tasty though. The rice and peas are also really good, and my favourite - the coleslaw. When you order a meal, you will get the protein, rice and peas, and a small side of coleslaw. I always get an extra container of coleslaw on the side though because I am obsessed haha. For a large meal + a small container of coleslaw on the side, I paid $21. Staff are ALWAYS incredible. They are always so friendly and outgoing. Overall, I definitely recommend this place.

I can certainly say that this is not how jerk chicken is supposed to taste! Very spicy chicken with no salt, seasoning. It's just spicy very dry chicken. I won't even start with the callalloo and rice but it's by far the worst I've ever tried! The jerk sandwich same deal super spicy which would actually be enjoyable if there was some sort of flavour other than basically doing the hot chip challenge lol. Rice and peace were dry and hard, again no flavor. Maybe add some coconut milk or something, at least put some passion in your food if you're going to open a restaurant. Attached are pictures of the food 1 day after sitting in the fridge since it sucked.

The customer service was friendly but the food was horrible. One of the worst cook shops I've been to in a while. Got jerk chicken, oxtail, and rice and peas. Not one item tasted good or authentic. Even the quality/freshness of the meat was questionable.

I ordered a large oxtail meal and wow! There is a lot of meat in it. The meat is good, tender and flavorful. The rice was ok, coleslaw was good. The size large served me two meals, lunch and dinner (you just need some extra rice).

Got an order of the jerk chicken sandwich, jerk shrimp, plantain and wedges. Everything was great except the shrimp. It was extremely tough and just inedible. On top of that, we had to wait 40 mins for our food.

Wowww! First time having this, definitely not my last… Ordered a large oxtail, rice & peas, jerk chicken wings, festival & mango carrot to drink.

I must say I’m surprised with how amazing everything I ordered was! The oxtail was soft & fall off the bone, the jerk chicken wings were sooo deliciously seasoned & even the festival was sooo addicting, it’s a good thing I went for 3 instead of 1 festival.

I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu. I live down the street too & it’s about time there’s a Jamaican spot closer to home!

The first time I went here after it originally opened, the service was fantastic and the food was a 4/5. Made me want to go back, the past two times the experience has been awful. The food is subpar, they are always ran out of everything on the menu but don’t tell you until you’ve already paid, the servers aren’t communicating with you at all and forgot part of my order completely. They are more busy talking with one another than paying attention to the customers. Always a minimum 45min-1hr wait even if you are the only person around. Honestly worse and worse each visit. I don’t recommend it to anyone looking for good jerk plenty of better places in city centre. AVOID AT ALL COST

This place is amazing. It has survived in an obscure hallway of Square One since the beginning of Covid. It’s a family business that has the highest standards in their food and their service. Soooooo glad I finally found my new favourite Caribbean food place. The Oxtail and Curry goat is AMAZING. You have to try them, it’s worth hunting them down in Square One.

I REALLY wanted to like this place. The aesthetic is clean & nice. The service was great, girls were really friendly. BUT the food…. Was a huge disappointment. There’s literally no flavour. Everything tasted fresh. It’s like they don’t have salt in their kitchen.

Nothing was seasoned.
Rice & peas: bland
BBQ chicken: bland, tasted like bottled bbq sauce and it’s not even boned chicken. Was like it’s just chicken breast cut up.
Coleslaw: bland

Yikes. Will not be returning & wouldn’t recommend. This is not the flavour of Jamaican food.

Some of the best oxtail and curry goat that I’ve ever had! If you’re in the area, Roywoods is a must try!

First time here and will definitely be coming back! Had the small jerk chicken plate with coleslaw and a side of plantain. Big portions, chicken was flavourful, and I loved the plantain. Good service.

Excellent taste. First time there. Sending blessings for longevity. I must say if I went to Square One without someone who is a regular, I never would have found this gem. I will return now I know.

Been wanting to try this place since I saw it. It's tucked away from food court or food district. You need a bit of work to find the place.

The large size jerk chicken plate is generous with four pieces of chicken, tender and flavourful (eat with their hot sauce!). The plantain dessert was also amazing, though much on the extreme sweet side. Their coleslaw, though refreshing, is a bit bland for my taste, and may clash with the rest of the dish due to being cold.

I enjoy this placed a lot! Super authentic jerk chicken! It’s so good you can taste Jamaica! Can’t believe how the species and Chicken just melt in your month and on your taste buds. I will be coming back today here again! 10/10

Hands down the best jerk chicken sandwich I have ever had, TBH had little or no expectations when I got the sandwich but it simply amazed me.

“Shrimp dinner” We received a container of rice pineapple and sweet peppers and 3 shrimps. We could have ordered a pineapple pizza instead if we wanted pineapple in our meal. What was the $12+ for? ! Really disappointed

Review: I ordered Jerk chicken with rice and peas with coleslaw. The coleslaw was enough to feed 5 people (feedback- cut down on the coleslaw portion it way too much). Honestly there was nothing Jerked about the chicken, this is the worst Jerk chicken I have ever tasted. Sorry they need to fix their recipe, it's was too wet. I honestly cannot called this Jerk chicken the tasted was hard to eat and the sauce on the rice didn't help either. The Coleslaw was fresh but had no taste.

I ordered bbq chicken with rice and coleslaw. I had to wait 20 minutes because they were making my friend’s meal. I told them to put both our orders in the same bag. I get home and they didn’t even include my meal in the bag. I paid $10.17 just to find out they never included my meal. Good food but man what a waste of my time and MONEY. I tried calling them, they were saying my last 4 digits of my card wasn’t in the system when the transaction is in my bank account. I’m disappointed, I just want my money back.

Excellent, huge, spicy hot jerk chicken sandwich on coco bread. Quick service. Magnificent Michael Jackson soundtrack. Friendly staff. Good value $10 including pop.

Tried the Jerk chicken plate - fresh and flavourful. The beef patties are very similar to Warden station patties (iykyk). Probably the only good option for Jamaican food in the area. Service could be better.

I need to start off by saying CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TOP NOTCH! SQ1 location is run by Mom & her sons. Very welcoming environment on each and every visit. This for me is important.

The Ackee & Saltfish Egg Rolls AAA+. Hats off to the Chef. You can find them on the side of the mall wheee the cinemas used to be. Thankfully we were there early enough to get our order as they are a top seller.

Keep up the amazing cooking! Other restaurants should provide the same level of service.

Checkout Roywoods to enjoy some delicious Caribbean food It’s the perfect spot for locals to sit and feel the Toronto street vibe at each of their locations! It truly is the home of the Jerk Chicken because it tasted fire Their hot sauce is a must try (it is spicy tho!) ? They are located near Holt Renfrew on the second level & we love how this area is secluded from everything else.
From the menu we ordered the Jerk Chicken Plate, Escovitch Fish Plate, Coleslaw Side and the Ackee Saltfish Rolls (our ultimate favourite). The service was great, everyone was so kind to us, we’ll be back to try their vegetarian options soon

The jerk chicken is amazing. I ordered spicy and it's just the right amount of heat. Server was really nice and friendly and he did not lie when he said the container was packed! I'm glad this place is in an inviting and spacious area of the mall, separate from the food court. Now I don't need to go far for delicious Jamaican food.
