Runaway Rooster

This is a beautiful B&B in the heart of Prince Edward County. I stayed with my family at Runaway Rooster twice. The first time we booked 2 rooms, the Coop and the Nest, the second time we booked the cottage. Both were excellent as was the gourmet breakfast. We also enjoyed the large, sunny living room with access to the large back yard which in fall is in glorious colour. The hosts Karen and George were very friendly and responsive as well as generous with their time and suggestions for wineries, restaurants and special events in the area. I would definitely return to the "Rooster" as soon as possible.

We had a wonderful experience at the B&B. Karen is not only a great cook but extremely knowledgeable about Prince Edward Country, its wineries, restaurants and scenic views. She helped us to plan our trip to get the most out of this beautiful area. Our room was lovely and very comfortable. Highly recommended.

A beautiful, luxurious cottage wonderfully decorated in 50s boho chic.no detail is left to chance and every opportunity to please patrons is undertaken by Karen and George, which includes superb zen garden in the back yard. Definitely worth it, again and again!

My wife and I stayed in the cottage at Runaway Rooster and from the time we walked in it was absolutely breathtaking. Everything was just picture perfect & incredibly clean the bed was so comfortable. I cannot say enough about this perfect spot

Une place incroyable et merveilleuse. Les propriétaires sont accueillants et chaleureux. Un repos complet pour notre bien être, ressourcement garanti. Terrain exceptionnel, grande galerie et tranquillité. Déjeuner différent chaque matin délicieux et généreux. Nous y sommes restés du 7 au 14 août 2023 et nous avons déjà réservé notre place pour l’an prochain. Merci sincère à Karine et George. Nous gardons un souvenir précieux de notre rencontre et avons hâte de vous revoir.

L'accueil faite par George était chaleureux et il nous a même servi en français malgré qu'il ne s'agisse pas de sa langue habituelle. Une très belle attention de sa part envers nous. Lors de notre séjour de 2 nuitées, nous avons eu droit à d'excellents déjeuners accompagnés de beaux bols de fruits. De plus, le gîte détient un permis annuel pour l'entrée au parc de Sand Banks et il nous est offert durant le séjour.
L'emplacement est très bien situé et permet de se rendre à la plage facilement en parcourant environ 20km.
A proximité de Bloomfield, il y a une belle offre de restaurants.

Everything was perfect! The food, the room, our guests and the beautiful terrace and garden. Tout était parfait! La nourriture, la chambre, nos hôtes et la terrasse et le jardin. Merci!

Ah where do I begin. I had a feeling a great stay was ahead when I received Karen & George's email reply to my booking inquiry. They were very accommodating and already gave super helpful dinner recommendations.

This was a trip for my wife and I and my parents, celebrating both of their birthdays. I really think my parents will fondly remember these couple of days of celebration because of the Runaway Rooster and Karen & George.

When we arrived, we knew we were in for a treat. The Great Room was beautifully decorated, warm and cozy. The rooms were delightful, easy to fall into a chair and relax, and the bed was very comfortable. We kept very warm at night in our rooms even though it was quite chilly outside.

Karen & George gave a perfect recommendation for dinner at the Spanish restaurant Bocado, it was such an amazing meal. They followed it up with a string of superb recommendations for the next day, evening drawing out a map route for us, which we followed and enjoyed very much.

The best part of all was wonderful conversations over delicious breakfast. Chatting about moving away from the city, laughing and sharing our mutual immigrant stories and hopes to travel more. We came in from the UK where there is a show called 4 in a Bed, where B&B's compete to determine which one is the best. I really think if Runaway Rooster appears in an episode, it would win that trophy.

We first stayed at Runaway Rooster in August 2021, when we were coming back September 2022 we knew exactly where to stay. Our first visit we stayed in the Roost which is a lovely space with a private balcony. Most recently, we stayed at the guest cottage which includes a full kitchen and living/dining area. Spotless both times and the location is great for anything and everything in the county. Karen and George are such warm hosts, and they put together a wonderful breakfast spread! We can’t wait for our next stay.

Had a wonderful stay at Runaway Rooster (the Coop) in September 2022. Karen and George were so welcoming, their home is beautiful and I felt very well looked after. Breakfasts were amazing! I really enjoyed Bloomfield as a home base for exploring PEC, and trips to Sandbanks. And Karen was very knowledgable about the best places to visit. Highly Recommend!

Rainy weather didn’t dampen a repeat visit to Runaway Rooster. Lots to do in the county regardless. Karen and George always make our stays extra special. Thanks!

I just returned from a wonderful weekend getaway to Prince Edward County.
We chose to stay at the Runaway Rooster. It is a beautiful Bed and Breakfast owned and operated by Karen and George.
They are a wonderful couple and were so warm and inviting. We really enjoyed chatting with them both and sharing stories with them. They are amazing hosts with lots of suggestions and ideas. Breakfasts were delicious and gourmet-like. The house itself is so charming and immaculate. We took all 3 rooms as we were with our 4 adult children. We had complete and private access to the entire cottage and beautiful grounds and gardens. It was all spectacular and it was evident that every detail was taken into account when they set up this B&B. This was our first trip to PEC and we will definitely return. It is a little paradise only 2 hours from Toronto. We will definitely choose the Runaway Rooster as our home away from home!

Spent 4 nights at the Runaway Rooster and had the very best time. We booked the whole place 4 of us stayed in the cottage and 6 in the B&B. Very comfortable, clean and I loved the decor. George and Karen where the best hosts, very informative, and always seemed to pop up when we had questions. The breakfasts delicious. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Wonderfully welcoming is the best description of the Runaway Rooster. The grounds are absolutely beautifully gardened, rooms immaculate and comfortable and the provided cooked breakfast was phenomenal. The hosts obviously love what they do and the area they live in. Many helpful tips on what to see and where to go are offered if wanted

My first time in the county and found a gem B&B runaway rooster.
Karen and George were amazing and made us feel right at home. The accommodation were great and the breakfasts were yummy!

Karen and George are such amazing hosts! They make you feel at home and are always here to help or answer questions. My husband and I visited Runaway Rooster two years ago and we came back again this year after the great experience we had. This time we came with our parents and they were impressed by how friendly Karen and George were but also by how clean the place was. They also prepared a very tasty breakfast using local products. Great experience, we’ll definitely come back again!

We absolutely adored staying at Runaway Rooster Guest Cottage for our 3rd wedding anniversary.

This was our first time staying there, and our hosts, Karen and George were amazing hosts in every way to make sure we had what we needed to make our stay super comfortable. Upon arrival they gave us a few housekeeping tips to best enjoy our stay, and welcomed us with some beautiful refreshments and snacks made locally. We also enjoyed the in-house breakfast prepared and made with local ingredients.

The location is on a beautiful property and very convenient (less than 10 minutes) to downtown Picton, and a short walk to the Millennium Trail where we enjoyed our jogs. Included with our stay is a parking pass for Sandbanks beach – an added bonus as we enjoy PEC’s nature scene.

The guest cottage comes with outdoor BBQ, washing machine, luxury 3 piece ensuite with skylight, cute family room and kitchenette, and breakfast nook accented with vintage and tastefully appointed décor. The queen size bed was very comfortable, and black out shades to keep out the light, which PEC in general doesn’t suffer from light pollution. We enjoyed the fire place during the cooler spring evenings, and watched a few movies on the TV streaming service (Netflix/Crave etc).

This is our home away from home whenever we come by PEC – worth every penny as a getaway from hectic Toronto. 5 Stars; would stay again…. And again…. And again!

First time at Runaway Rooster and everything was fantastic. Karen and George were excellent hosts, offering the perfect balance of being great hosts while providing plenty of space as well. The room (we stayed in the Roost) was beautiful with it's own outdoor patio for reading and lounging and an immaculate private bathroom. The building itself and grounds are beautiful and the breakfasts were delicious with locally sourced ingredients. What more can we say, thanks Karen and George!

We had a great two night stay at Runaway Rooster. Karen and George are 'hosts extraordinaire'. Their BnB itself is beautiful, our room lovely, the bed comfy, breakfasts outstanding. From the prompt responses to our contacts with them to book, and ongoing emails with loads of useful information, their attentiveness to every detail before arrival, and during our stay, was fantastic. And they are lovely people who truly enjoy their guests. We'll be back.

I cannot state how wonderful of a stay my husband and I had at Runaway Rooster! Apart from the fact that the location is un-beatable (Bloomfield was perfectly curated and picturesque, as well as only 10-15 minutes from all the hot-spots like Wellington, Picton, The Sand Dunes and vineyards), the Runaway Rooster was immaculately clean and cozy and Karen and George are the ultimate, ultimate hosts! They were warm and welcoming right from the start and they know the County inside and out. The breakfasts included in our stay were generous, delicious and restaurant quality. We loved the fact that we were able to walk 2 minutes to one of our dinner reservations at Flame & Smith (Highly recommend!), as well as go for a morning jog on the Millennium Trail. Thank you Karen and George for taking us in on such short notice. Thank you for being such good company and for steering us in all the right directions! If we could give 10 stars we would!

Our first visit to Prince Edward County was spectacular, thanks to Karen and George at the Runaway Rooster Bed & Breakfast. Their home is beautifully decorated, and includes a stunning and spacious Great Room, perfect for stretching out and watching Netflix on a rainy night. Our hosts prepared delicious breakfasts for each of our two mornings there, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. They were very friendly and hospitable, and were prepared with a long list of recommendations for restaurants, wineries, art galleries, shops, markets, and other attractions. They included their Sandbanks Park Pass which was a nice added touch, and even loaned us an umbrella with a threat of rain looming. We will definitely return on our next visit to PEC.

We stayed in both the B&B and the guest house, both are beautiful, the breakfasts excellent, and the hosts are welcoming and full of suggestions on wineries, restaurants, shopping, etc. A short walk to main street Bloomfield and a great place to stay in PEC.

I have stayed at the Runaway Rooster 3 times now over the last 5 months, twice with my husband and once with my mom. We all LOVE it. I feel like it is my home away from home. The cottage is drop dead gorgeous with absolutely every amenity and kitchen gadget you could ever want to use. We feel soooo comfortable there. It is in a great location - close to Picton, Sandbanks, great golf courses and great restaurants. Karen and George are the world's most welcoming hosts. We look forward to many future visits!

A real gem in the heart of Bloomfield. Located minutes from restaurants (you can walk to Flame and Smith), one-off locally owned stores and other must see places. The Runaway is a charming, impeccably maintained B&B run by the owners Karen and George who provide fantastic breakfasts (every day was a different treasure trove of tastes), great conversation at your option, and graciously help you navigate around the very best of The County. They have a lovely and spacious property filled with beautiful furniture, plants and an assortment of collectables which combine to create a very classy yet extremely comfortable atmosphere. This was our first visit to this area and thanks to Karen and George, we had a fabulous time.

We stayed here for three nights and will definitely return.

Our stay at the Runaway Rooster was great. Breakfast was amazing and our hosts were very kind. The property was also beautiful, well maintained and close to many attractions.

My boyfriend and I stayed a couple nights in the 'Roost' room. It was a perfect experience. Karen & George were fantastic hosts who went above and beyond to make us feel at home. The breakfast was served by courses on their beautiful back deck, complete with fresh juice and coffee, and accommodated our food preferences. We spent the day at Sandbanks, and they lent us an umbrella and chairs to use while we were there. Shopping and restaurant recommendations were always on point. We also loved the interior of the home; lots of unique touches of decor that really gave a cozy country feel for our stay. We would not hesitate to come back, and have already started to recommend to family & friends. Thank you!

To say that the Runaway Rooster and its truly wonderful hosts exceeded our expectations, is an understatement! You have to stay here! We had an absolutely fabulous time! We'll be back!

Everything about our experience at the Runaway Rooster was fantastic. The house is beautiful, extremely cosy and nicely decorated, as well as incredibly clean. We loved our room (The Coop) and the bathroom is also lovely and modern. Our favourite thing was sitting in the Great Room, where we hung out in the evening alone and with some of the other guests. There's even a little fridge where we kept a bottle of local wine to enjoy in the evening.
In addition to the stunning house and grounds, what really set this experience apart was the owners, George and Karen. From the moment we stepped in they were incredibly lovely, offering tons of great suggestions for places to go, and just generally great conversation! You can tell that they really care about giving their guests a great experience. The breakfast was also fantastic - different every day and George makes one of the best omelettes I've ever had.
We also loved the location of the BnB, as it's a short walk to Slickers (incredible ice cream) and some nice little shops in Bloomfield, as well as a short drive to Wellington and Picton. Thanks to Karen and George's suggestions, we managed to fill our trip with lots of non-winery related activities like going to the beach, antique stores and garden centres, and still have a list of things we want to see when we return and stay at the Runaway Rooster again - which we certainly will!

Karen and George are great hosts! Check in was very easy. The building is beautiful, clean, new feeling and huge! The rooms were great and the bathroom. The breakfasts were very delicious and fresh County food. The location is perfect, close to great shops, restaurants and wineries. We spent a day at Sandbanks which was awesome. We had a bonfire which was fantastic! We definitely would stay at The Runaway Rooster Prince Edward County again!

We spent a weekend at the runaway rooster and it far exceeded our expectations.

The room was beautiful, spacious and comfortable (the roost). The bed was ultra luxurious and comfortable and there was a small sitting area. There was also a small private balcony where we could grab a breath of fresh air. The bathroom was spotless and well equipped with lots of towels, a hair dryer and soap/shampoo/conditioner.

The house and yard were totally spectacular. There’s a great sitting room with a few games and big TV. The outside has multiple decks, sitting areas and fire pit. We were lucky enough to sit under the stars enjoying fireflies! The yard had beautiful well kept gardens.

Our hosts were phenomenal. What a natural fit for the both of them! They had great advise on where to explore, they gave us a ton of free tasting cards for wineries, entrance passes for the sandbanks and were all around friendly.

The breakfast was AMAZING. It was 5 star, totally delicious, filling and almost exclusively locally sourced. Yumm yumm yumm. It was also really nice to meet the guests.

The house is located in a great spot. A few really great restaurants in walking distance and short drive to both Picton, the Sandbanks, and countless wineries/breweries.

We can’t wait to go back:)

We had a great week at the Guest House in July 2019. Karen and George are amazing hosts, the house is spectacular, meticulously decorated, well equipped for cooking fresh County produces and everything has been thought of. The location is central for accessing everything in the county. Quiet, within walking distance to several restaurants and the quaint town of Bloomfield. As hosts, they could not have been nicer, with several kind attention including hand cut flowers and beach towels. They have endless suggestions for experiencing the county and are super helpful and knowledgeable. We have wonderful conversations with them, it is obvious they love to host. My husband and I stayed two nights in the Runaway Rooster Guest House and had an amazing experience. Karen and George went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and to ensure we had a special anniversary weekend. The guest house is beautiful; spacious, incredibly clean, stylish, and FULL of light. There were so many special touches, you can really tell that Karen and George love to host. The place is perfectly located in Bloomfield. It is walking distance to some great restaurants and cute shops and also very close to wineries and breweries. The guest house is tucked back a bit from the road and surrounded by beautiful landscaping - very quiet and serene. I cannot say enough good things about our stay!

One of the best B&B we stayed in. First of all, the hosts- Karen and George, are so welcoming and putting a lot of effort to make sure their guests feels like at home and have all information they need to enjoy their visit. They gave us so much information and suggestions on where to dine, visit and tour that it made our travel way easier than expected. The breakfast is a jam! Every morning it is different and very filling. The B&B is amazing, big back yard including few spots to relax over at the patio, near the fire or just sit outside on the grass. It includes a big living room with very comfy sofa where you can read or enjoy the company of the other guests.
It has 3 rooms upstairs, 2 of them share a bathroom and one have its own. The place is very clean and has attention to details which I find amazing. Looking forward to coming back.

The bedrooms were immaculate and extremely cute. We also toured their cabin and it looks like an amazing, private place for a family getaway! We can't wait to return to the Runaway Rooster.

Karen and George have been the most amazing hosts I could have hoped for.

The time spent talking with them in the morning, was the highlight of an otherwise wonderful vacation.

Close to the picturesque village of Bloomfield, their house is an oasis of peace, nestled in a gorgeous garden, by a babbling brook. It feels rustic, yet airy and elegant. I had the good fortune to reside in ‘’The Nest’’ which I can only describe as an adult (and very beautiful) version of a cosy cupboard under the stairs.in the best possible way.
The care they put in the little details of the breakfasts they serve daily makes every bite worthy of the best establishments.

Our hosts Karen and George were just wonderful! We went to PEC to celebrate our anniversary and in our beautiful room was a bottle sparkling wine with a card wishing us a happy 40th anniversary. Such a surprise! You can tell they love what they do. From the warm atmosphere of the log style chalet to the treed backyard with a natural bubbling brook where we enjoyed a great evening bon fire with other guests, it was a great and memorable experience. We think it is the best central location in PEC to enjoy all that it has to offer and we did.

My husband surprised me with a weekend getaway at the Runaway Rooster and it was the best experience. We stayed in the "The Roost" - a charming suite with private bathroom and the most adorable balcony. The property is exquisitely maintained, everything was spotless. It's located on the main street of Bloomfield and within walking distance to some of the best restaurants in the County. The owners, Karen and George, are the biggest sweethearts. They are so welcoming and friendly and so eager to help. Karen helped my husband plan the trip and gave him wonderful recommendations on things to do in the County. By the end of our 3 day stay it felt like we were family. We had to leave very very early on our last day and Karen was up to make us breakfast. It was a glorious trip and I can't wait to come back.

If you're heading to Prince Edward County you must stay at the Runaway Rooster! We spent 5 days in the Guest Cottage and would have happily moved in. It is a gorgeous space, with everything you need for a comfortable stay; in fact part of the pleasure of our vacation was enjoying being "home" in the cottage. Karen and George are delightful hosts, warm and friendly and full of good advice about the best places to visit, shop and eat. Bloomfield is a charming town with a lovely main street full of nice shops and restaurants, a tasty ice cream place and a wonderful bicycle shop where you can get a map with recommend cycling routes. The Runaway Rooster is a true gem; on a scale of one to ten it's an eleven!
