I had a challenging experience at this school in an undergraduate life sciences program. Despite being friendly with everyone, I found the faculty generally unwelcoming, and while some students were friendly, a significant number behaved rudely and coldly. Unfortunately, I also faced harassment and racial abuse from homeless individuals in the area, which added to the overall negative environment. Moreover, despite the degree being advertised as a pathway to good jobs, it didn't deliver on those promises, and I struggled to find opportunities or receive adequate career support. The overall atmosphere made me feel like it wasn't a real university. Eventually, I decided to transfer to another school for a better academic and personal experience.

I was taken back, by the art work displayed, and the amazing selection of modern Art.
I recommend anyone try a tour, and discover a lot of amazing Art

Every single one of your trades people accept an envelope full of cash in order for the contractors to get work. Great use of students tuition money there and then people wonder why it goes up. Maybe the $ 15,000.00 spent on wallpaper for one professors office.

Do not take the Creative Industries program. You will be unemployed or underemployed. The rest of the university is just average.

Their in-person curriculum is administered reasonably well.

The online courses are not great due to limited opportunity for feedback, correction, etc. They also don't feel terribly well structured.

If you want to spend a few years of your life in a woke University, you'll find yourself at home here. If you want to learn something, look elsewhere. This is by far one of the worst places for high education in Canada. It's littered with garbage, spots one of the ugliest buildings in downtown and they pretend, or think, they are located in the States. Avoid. I'm not a big fan of the York University either, but at very least it has better facilities and is oriented on learning. McMaster is even a better alternative, but is located outside of Toronto. If you can afford it, go to UofT.

The little sister took her around for more than an hour. It's a pretty good school. Remember to register for the campus tour in advance.

The TMU or (formerly) Ryerson University is truly an Educational SCAM Facility. Precisely, for international students.

The offered curriculum cannot even be compared to a simple youtube search.
Classes are dirty.
Equipment is old.
Staff do not give a darn about you.
Profs don't even bother having a look at your Thesis project.

As long as you pay, you're good to go. But that's about it.

If you are reading this, DO NOT FALL FOR THEM.

Infrastructure needs more work/funding.
I can only speak to the engineering experience. The university does a fair job at providing students with opportunities to work in their field. Either through research or internships, students get the chance to explore their field before fully committing to it. Not as good as Waterloo's program, but quite solid regardless.

Got some mini cheese cakes from my friend's boyfriend convocation ceremony from here. The cakes were a bit too sweet hence the 4*.

While Ryerson (or TMU) horrible new name by the way, they should have left it at the temporary name all the students were using X university, that does not erase what happened in history but rather a symbol of what happened and the future generation's intolerance to discrimination. (Or actually taking student's opinions into consideration rather than completely ignoring their surveys to pick a generic, detached and just so impersonal to their students and community that does represent them at all. Even going so far as to change the mascot from a Ram to Falcons that do not represent at all, I personally thought that just changing the Ram's name to Zibi the Ram (Indigenous for 'River') or 'River the Ram'

That being said I do not agree with other comments stating that other universities in Ontario (such as York, UofT, Western, Laurier, Queen's etc) I would say the complaints of academic quality, professor, issues, and safety can be similar or often times even worse. Especially with the more secluded and "quiet" universities being more of a risk for vulnerable people.

Ryerson (TMU) has increased safety risks as all cities have had during this post covid, recession period, precautions include the same as you would in any big city. (Stick to yourself, walk directly to your classes or well-lit/ crowded/ populated areas (easy in this city) but they have increased security presence.

I would compare the academics as varying depending on department and professor but as comparable to the other schools mentioned. There is an upper-hand to the more 'secluded' universities as the school takes place in the hub of toronto and I genuinely feel (again depending on program) that the school does a good job of offering networking opportunities, professional positions and connections. Most of the professors in my personal experience in the Law, Criminology and History sectors as satisfying as the professors genuinely want to see their students succeed and offer a lot of advice when asked, it is also very easy to communicate with them.

I think every school has its advantages and disadvantages and this school while frustrating at times has more upsides to downsides. It is also very easy to connect and meet with other students if you are a social person. Students usually help each other out and there isn't usually a harsh competitive atmosphere.

I hope in the new year and upcoming years the school continues to improve through these tough times or else this rating may change.

Nice building but can use some work. Too many crackheads in the areas nearby and sometimes has garbage. Also they ruined their name.

This place is now called TMU. Confusing about the names because some parts still called Ryerson and other parts TMU.

Graduates do not display the level of knowledge I would expect after earning a marketing degree.

Love the location and programs of this university. Just wish they could increase the diversity of their staff to trully reflect the community it is located in.

It is a very welcoming atmosphere and the buildings are some of the most unique looking in downtown Toronto. The staff and students are very friendly as well.

A large but well laid out campus. Navigation is easy and all the buildings are easy to access.

Terrible university. Stay in school, kids, and you may end up in a real uni like UofT.

Terrible professors. Many of them are diversity hires, barely able to convey their material due to the language barrier. I understand these professors may or may not be respected in their fields in their own language, but that does not mean they are fit to teach it in English (spoiler: they are not).

The physics and computer science department are by far the worst of the individual academic departments. Do not expect to learn anything from their teams, and be prepared to come with pre-existing knowledge or to study independently and teach yourself everything for the majority of these courses.

The university also does not care about covid-19 related absences, and will put you on probation despite you having received academic consideration approval for missed exams.

Got a job offer with the university? Don't expect much, as they cut positions for jobs they offered after many months of not communicating whatsoever. All this without ever having started the job you were offered, meaning you may have declined other jobs in the process. The university cares more about inclusive nonsense than it does about academic support, which is NOT what I'm paying over 11k a year for.

Not only are students expected to trek halfway across campus through the busy downtown area between lectures, but must also avoid the hordes of homeless, addicts and tweakers while doing so. Kind of like a video game except it's not fun nor safe.

All that and many more.

IT'S FRIDAY

Went here from 2012-2016. Even then you could see this place going woke. Bunch of leftist non sense snuck into every damn course and faculty. Waste of money. I've learned more through life than through this. Made me change my mind about putting my kids through uni, so I guess there 1 star for helping me realize how useless it's become and what an indoctrination scam it is.

Poor Management (Nutrition Department) They are very slow in responding to emails. They don’t care, if they have to email back a student. It’s been 3 weeks of waiting for a simple question to be answered. I wish I could give 0 stars.

I got degree from here graduated in 2017. Still at minimum wage jobs. The education was as valuable as McDonald's orientation training.
