Saga Board Games & Coffee

I have been coming downtown again after the time of EPIC yuckiness known as covid. Queue ballard with a mournful soundtrack. Think Frodo and Sam in Mordor, you get the feeling.

Happily Saga remains an oasis in the downtown core. I am happy to meet many of the new staff. Today I met one of the most positive and cheerful person that I have met in a very long time.

To me good customer service is vital for me to become a repeat customer. Today was wonderful in this regard.

Summary:

The coffee was good and the board game selections are solid. The staff were very nice and gave good service; however, when it got really busy, the service faltered (understandable).

Some confusion:

When my partner and I arrived, a staff member took our orders and told us that the board game fee was $5 for an hour and $8 for the day. We were fine with this and did not limit ourselves to an hour since it was only a $3 difference; we stayed 2 hours. When we went to pay for everything, we ended up getting charged $10 ($5 for each hour) by a different staff member. It’s not a big deal since the difference was only $2, but I was left confused on what the actual policy was supposed to be.

Great food and drinks. Would appreciate larger tables for games. Some games are in terrible condition.

Went here to grab a bite and a coffee before a movie last night.
Incredibly friendly staff, tons of different games to play.
But the food, bagel bombs, baby! So delicious!

From the reviews I thought this would be a welcoming place. Was disappointed when the workers were rude upon entering and giving us horrible looks and whispering about us the whole time. Felt so unwelcoming so we just left.

Management could be a little friendlier. Baked goods were a little stale too.
Not enough pastries during the week.

Hello! I am a regular at saga and enjoy the drinks, large plants and giant windows. I was at saga tonight (February 10,2023) from 7 to 9 and during that time, someone who appeared to be homeless walked in. I remember that there were about 4 employees and the owner present who continued to ask him to leave and threatened to call the police as he asserted that he is a human being and had done nothing wrong. I was wondering if you could expand on what the situation was and what your policy is for interacting with vulnerable community members?

I had a great time playing a couple of their boardgames with friends. There are some titles that I love playing but haven't justified the price tag yet.

I'm glad I booked a seat in advance cause of how busy it was!

The staff was lovely, and got us out food and drink pretty quickly even though it looked like they were swamped.

If you are looking for a place to spend the afternoon playing a board or card game with your friends, that's a great option. One advice: arrive early! This place deserves more tables for sure:)

VERY RUDE! Not friendly at all. Giving me looks whole time staying.
Pastry tasted so old, stale, dry. Had Nooo taste. Panini had a piece of hair in it. Didn’t even bother mentioning because busy talking and didn’t wanted to waste my energy arguing with her. Not worth a visit.

It's a bit over priced but I liked the atmosphere and probably will go again occasionally.
