This is a very well known chain in Toronto, known to be a lot of people’s favourites- for me, it’s in the top 3 for sure!
The thing about the location is…there’s some problems.
Let’s start with the food though, it was the best part. I got the black garlic and my friend got the black miso. We also got seaweed salad and corn croquette.
The ramen was amazing. The noodles were chewy, the broth was heartwarming, and the meat just melted in your mouth. I ate the corn croquette, that one was mid. It’s a new item and I like croquettes a lot so I thought I’d give it a try, but the flavour is just in a blend very well, but like every single Santosei Ramen store, the ramen was very good. Is it pricey? Yes, it’s 16-18$ for noodles but that’s Toronto for you.
Now, the service. The people themselves were really kind and nice. They did their job properly, it’s nothing on them. The thing this mostly relates to is the layout of the place. Where we were seated and where they are standing, they can’t see if we need their help at all.
They didn’t really check that much, especially for when we wanted to order at the beginning. Again, this is nothing on the workers, this is more about how they created the layout of the restaurant.
Another thing about the layout is the washroom. The lighting is really bad. And I’m not talking for bathroom. Mirror pics, I’m talking about about can-I-see-if-the-toilet-seat-I’m-about-to-sit-on-is-dirty type of deal. You really can’t see anything. I get that there’s not much space in the washroom, so it definitely feels cramped. Your knees are almost touching the wall when you sit down. But it’s mostly the lighting.
This leaves into the smell, there was a really odd smell around the middle of the restaurant…not sure what’s that about.
No complaints for the workers and food, just saying how it could improve.
Pros: - Tasty - Well presented - Quick service (but also a cons see later)
Cons: - Small portion (It was enough for me but I generally can't finish ramen at other locations) - Service is so so compared to others (Lack on engagment this is more like a fast-food kinda place) - Part of the quick service is also issues with giving u the check right away not even asking for it, which I don't see it anywhere, they generally ask. - Small location, so expect to be tight.
Again not a bad place and definitely try it out, the ramen is good but they could definitely improve.
Ordered from Ubereats for the buy 1 get 1. Went to the store. Orders not ready. Orders canceled. Claimed the internet not working. Promo i purchased does not "exist". Will NOT order here again. Left hungry
DO NOT ORDER TAKEOUT from this restaurant. I can’t say much for the dine-in quality, but I ordered the miso black ramen and fried chicken and both items had incredibly small portions, were packaged improperly for take-out and frankly did not taste good. The $20 miso black ramen was on par with $1 instant noodles and the fried chicken had barely any chicken… not sure how they portion things in restaurant but they need to step up their takeout packaging and portions. Don’t bother ordering from here on Uber eats or any delivery apps.
Nothing like a hot ramen on a cold day! Tonkotsu ramen is my favourite comfort meal and Sansotei really delivers! Add the shiitake mushrooms because the flavour of them is so good! I also added in a bunch of stuff because i like a busy bowl. The only thing I would have added is a touch of chilli oil but they didn’t have any on the table (maybe ask? They probably have! I was just too hungry to ask) But solid spot!
Get the tonkotsu black! It's a milky, pork-based broth with egg, mushrooms, scallions, and thick noodles! It's super tasty with a rich garlic flavour that is not overpowering. The pork is nice and tender and the mushrooms are nice and crispy. You will not be disappointed
Note below: that background ramen is the tomato one and is also nice with the saffron and scallops
Great service and food. But for some reason, they kept forgetting my thick noodles even though I've requested for it. Maybe in my 10th times they won't forget it after this review. Thanks again! We'll be back as always. Stay safe.
The spicy tan tan is a must have! One of my favourite bowls of ramen, even if Sansotei is a chain. As far as starters go, I love getting a nice bowl of gyudon (but only get it if you're very hungry). The proximity to Chung Chun Rice Dog is great since you can go for a chocolate dog right after.
This place is always consistently good and for a good price as well.
Miso black and regular black with the garlic oil and mushroom taste amazing. The broth is amazingly done along with the egg. Love how they use thicker noodles.
Only downside is the portion of the bowl became smaller as the place increase in popularity. I noticed this from a year ago
Sansotei makes very delicious ramen. The miso black was incredible, and their thick noodles work out very well with their dishes. The prices are very good, with ramen bowls in the $13-16 range. Beer is a bit on the expensive side.
Amazing place. Quite small, so you might have to wait to get in. A small menu, but that just means that each item is amazing. Try the specials, they're creative and delicious.
Mazemen tasted great, better than Konjiki’s. Wish there was a non-vegetarian option. My wife ordered the TanTan Soup Noodle and the person who brought it over had his thumb in the soup which really killed the vibe.
We didn’t bother saying anything and it tasted fine and obviously we expect staff regularly wash their hands so it’s not a big deal, was just off putting hence the three stars instead of four or five.
Glad this little shop exists and seems to be doing well but it’ll probably be a while before my next visit.
Tried this place for the first time and I loved it. The spicy tan tan was sold out which I was looking forward to but had the tonkotsu black and it was yummy. Service was slow, only because this place was packed and busy. Will be back
I always love the ramen here. I usually got spicy tan tan which is my most fav. Soup base is suppper rich, flavour and little spicy. Highly recommended!
Very good food, as always. What else can you expect from Sansotei. Came from Ottawa, there were so many choices of ramen restaurants around that area, but we selected Sansotei and weren't disappointed
Unfortunately my shoyu ramen today wasn’t very good and my eggs did not taste right. I will try again and maybe have a miso based ramen as I usually enjoy those at other ramen places in the area.
This bad review I gave to the front girl. I was craving Ramen and passed by Sansotei, so I would like to have a try. When I entered, the store looks kind of messy which I understand restaurants only do take-out during pandemic. The girl saw me, but she didn’t greet or came to help me right away. After a while, she came out and I asked her if I could see the menu. She pointed the menu which is sticked on the board.she went back to kitchen without any explanation and looks like she is not happy to serve me (even I just order take-out). I saw her was playing on her phone in the kitchen and probably she just got her nail salon. To be honest, I hate people who works at food industry having those chemical nail stuffs. I didn’t enjoy this experience, probably won’t come back. Hope the owner would solve this sort of service problem. I showed up on May31, around 8 pm.
Sansotei is my favour ramen chain in the city, I go to this place at least twice every month before the pandemic. However my experience today was very disappointed.
Start with the Zangi (fried chicken). I always been a fan of it. Today, it looks brown and dry with full of sadness, it tastes nothing but burn and salty. The zangi today feels like it’s been thrown back to the fryer after it’s cold (it’s not 二度揚げ), made you think you chewing a salty jerky in your mouth, no juice at all.
The ramen broth was sitting in the take out bowl with lid open before the ramen is ready, at the time I arrive, there were around 10 bowls sitting in the kitchen. THEY GET COLD (warm)! No one doesn’t like a hot bowl of ramen, even it’s takeout.
I am allergic to green onions, and informed before hand. Kitchen staff put them in by mistake, which is understandable, not every customer will have special requests. Restaurants usually make a new one to prevent the spread of allegiance, or at least remove them completely which I will have no issue with it. Instead, they removed only a portion of the green onions, and still left a few in my ramen.
This restaurant is always above the standards, but it’s just very unacceptable today, below acceptable. Not recommended during pandemic for takeout. Visited 9pm June 3rd, 2021
I get to eat here a lot since I work in the area. I have to say the service is always good and they keep the spot neat all the time. Pricing is reasonable and they serve big portions.
This is my favourite ramen place in the area hands down. I’ve tried every place on the Yonge strip and this place consistently has the most flavour, richest broth, and oh my god the chashu is perfect every time. Highly, highly recommend!
Happy to have a Sansotei in North York. I really like their ramen and most flavours are good. I like their noodles, soup, and meat. One thing that is common is how salty the soup base is. I always need to drink lots of water. But I would say they are one of the top ramen shops in Toronto alongside Santouka.
This is a fantastic ramen place! Our favorite in the Yonge-Finch area. The prices are reasonable and the bowls are so filling. It's really high quality broth too (very fatty and flavourful - if you bring leftovers home and refrigerate it, the broth completely congeals, which is the sign of a good broth!) I recommend the miso black if you like the taste of miso, as it has a delicious extra strip of pork belly on top. The other things on their menu are good but not amazing - come here for the ramen.
I made a ritual order. When I have been told the food is ready for pickup, they even didn't start to prepare it. They forgot ingredients and it was super super salty. Barely meat was added. I have no plans to go there again.
Expected a lot from this place because it was number 1 on blogto. The service is very fast but the taste of the food is not great. Lack of punchy flavours but a good place to eat.
Restaurant is quite small but still functional. Not sure how it is when it’s busy considering I went on a pretty dead day. Anyways the menu is simple and makes it so easy to quickly order which is what I liked. I ordered the Spicy Tantan ramen dish, and I would rate it 7/10. The broth had a lot of flavour and the thick noodles were on point but very little meat in the dish. 7/10 because I know I’d rather try another dish when I decide to visit again. The services was quick and food arrived within a few minutes:)
Sooooooooo good! I go here all the time for my ramen cravings:) my all time favourite is Spicy Tantan. The service is always pretty friendly and what I like about this restaurant is that they include the ramen egg whereas other ramen shops make you pay extra for the egg!
A bit pricier than most ramen stops, including the nearby Kinton Ramen, but this place is by far one of the best if not the very best ramen in Toronto.
1st star for being accesible: walking distance from our place. 2nd star for the savoury tasting ramen 3rd star for cleanliness 4th star for the nice servers, always giving our baby a separate bowl. Highly recommended
Really good ramen, especially for a chain restaurant. This is one of our favorite ramen spots. Noodles are cooked nicely and soup broths are delicious. Staff are always friendly there. Good atmosphere, small but nice and cozy.
Nothing much there. Noodles are so so. And my stomach felt bad after having lunch there. Also, expensive. Waitress tried to speak Japanese. That felt fake, unnecessary.
Pricier than most ramen, but worth it by far. The most flavorful broth with top notch noodles and toppings. Something that everyone needs to experience.
I would give this a 5 stars if this store had wifi. Would have liked if the menu had pictures so I have a idea of what the ramen would like. Other than that it's a good place to eat at.
Top quality ramen, their broth is thick and so flavourful! Served in a smaller sized bowl than other places but it fills you up and the price is still great (I forgot the exact amount I paid but I wasn't mad about it).
The fact that they are not on Yonge, but rather around the corner, meant that we didn't need to wait for seats, and got our food very quickly. It was delicious and very nicely presented.
This review is for people who wants to do take out! 1.they don’t separate the noodle and soup, so it means you have to pick it up immediately when your ramen is ready, and eat it within 10 minutes. Otherwise the noodle will absorb the soup. 2. No chopsticks, spoon, and napkins for take out orders! 3. I was trying to pay, there are three staff in front of me, couldn’t get them attention
I haven't had ramen too much before, but a friend took me here and it had a very fun vibe. Felt like you were walking into a Japanese noodle shop in Tokyo. I had the standard ramen and it was quite good. It is surprisingly filling.
Good choice of excellent ramen, reasonable prices. The place is small and a bit noisy as it's very popular. Attentive staff, expedient service, clean washroom, mostly high chairs. Definitely recommended for the food.
My favourite ramen place! The small menu makes it so much easier for me to choose what I want. The karaage chicken and gyoza are amazing. My favourite bowl is definitely the tonkotsu black, perfect amount of garlic oil
I didn’t expect the store had a Japanese waitress. Before I left the place I said to her ’have a good night’. She responded to me ’goodbye’ by their mother tone. This was so sweet to me.
Price is fair and surrounding is pretty good too.
It’s the one-and-unique must-go Japanese ramen restaurant in Toronto.
Worst restaurant ever! Employees are behaving so badly. Talking about costumer behind their back as if they can’t hear them. This has the poor hospitality and service. I will never come back here. This is my first time experiencing this awful behaviour!
