I would give them 0 stars if possible.

Called multiple times regarding a vehicle lien release letter and how I need it ASAP for my mortgage broker. Kept being told it would be processed in 10 business days and mailed to me - that there was no way of expediting this request. 21 business days later I call them to see what is taking so long just to be told, "Oh! Let me get that created for you and emailed out in 24-48 hours"
After asking to speak with a supervisor, the agent came back to ask me questions on their behalf instead of speaking to me directly - whoever you are you are not fit to be a manager. Handle my complaint like an adult - don't hide behind your agent and don't keep me on hold for 20+ minutes just to avoid speaking to me.

Super unprofessional, incompetent, and unremarkable in any way. I am happier to no longer bank with Scotiabank than I am about paying off my car loan. 0/10 recommend.

Kevin the Customer Service Manager on the main floor went above and beyond to resolve an issue I had with a cheque, Never experienced this level of excellence in customer service before; I think Kevin deserves a promotion or at least to have a recognition, at the same time I observed the way he talks to his team, he shows leadership and commitment.

The amount of times banking is unavailable when needed is UNREAL.the amount of times things dont work! Like today i failed authentication on telescotia after being asked like 10 questions - I CANNOT IMAGINE WHAT I GOT WRONG im 100% SURE THE GUY ENTERING THE ANSWERS MESSED UP BECAUSE I 100% DIDNT - but the guy WOULD NOT let me try again - all i wanted to do was figure out why i cant pay my scotia credit card from the app or from the scotiaonline.i have to go into the branch.so mad. Scotiabank systems are so broken!

I was going to share our experience of Scotia Bank's 6019 Steeles Ave E branch, hoping someone could take an action and look into the issues. But seems it's an issue with most of the branches, and Nobody's doing anything about it:/
All the same, here's what we've been thru.our review.
I was a bit hesitant to write because we don't normally give bad reviews, and this bank has an employee who deserves all 5 stars, that's the security guard, who opens the door and greets everyone politely with kind words every single time
Having said that, I am with Scotia Bank, business acct, for the past 30+ years! Started at the branch on McNicol and Markham Rd, that was an amazing branch, with professional ppl, who knew how to treat customers, and knew what they were doing, its closed down now.
Anyways, i had an appt with Kanika on Jan20th at 11: 30am, at my current branch. Arrived there at 11: 25. Was ushered in and told to wait in the main area as she was with a customer. After 15 mins past my appt time, I went to inquire and was told to talk to a teller who would chk with her. Meanwhile the customer who was inside had already left. I waited another ten mins and then decided to check again and was told she was on the phone, it was now half an hour past my appt time.
Decided to go chk at her cubicle myself. She was still on her cellphone. She looked up and asked me if I had an appointment! Was obviously in a rotten mood over the conversation she was having on her cell (personal?) No hello, no smile, and with an attitude like that for a senior who has been Scotia bank's loyal customer for years! She couldn't bother to check her own agenda or appointments and instead gave me that attitude as though I was walking into HER time! It's absolutely unacceptable! And unethical.
It was a horrible experience. Her first question to me was "what are you here for? "! As though she was doing me a favour by talking to me.
And now I read that so many other people have complained too of this branch, it's really sad!
This branch needs to sit down and review their employees behavior towards the Bank's customers and specially seniors!
I honestly hope there is someone from The Branch or the head office looking into these reviews!

I have been repeatedly called by Scotiabank about a debt I do not owe, because someone else listed my phone number.

Despite contacting several people at the company about this, I am still being harassed by them.

Also, when I actively used accounts with them, many of their bank staff at the High Tech and Bayview location were incompetent. They received my wire, but didn't put the funds into my account due to a supposed system error. Thanks for wasting my time by making me come in several times for no reason, and wasting the time of the person sending the wire because they had to double-check on their end.

Lindsay Scotia bank is a joke, tried to withdrawl money from my RIF, should of taken 2 to 3 days. After day 4 nothing has happened yet, if ya deal in Lindsay, refuse Hugh Shannon as your investment person. Had an appointment with him, we got there and he forgot about the appointment. I should of waited to deal with Paul Dionne, Paul is great, Hugh should be retired

Garbage customer service experience
Garbage company for any types of loans/bank service.
90% of the employees are overseas barely speak English.
Only English/French employee I managed to get, Openly admitted to the bad BBB review rating of Scotia.
Prior.
Asked to make extra loan payments on my open loan via a bill payment to a non English speaking representative who thought I said "add the X amount to my monthly bill automatically" caused me some bank fees for that f up then they charge me high interest rate for missing that "X amount " while I'm still paying my automatic regular monthly bill.

Awesome the English/french saw the f up and fixed it after my credit report was notified for that too.now I'm paying extra to get away from you clowns for good

My bf and I were both looking to start joint accounts and had nothing but bad experiences with Scotia. I've been with RBC for years and have never had this issue. No one knows what they're doing here, don't waste your time like we did. Look elsewhere.

Good branch as they have a lot of tellers available and it looks very grand as it's their main building.

There is also an advantage in that they open earlier than other branches.

People are friendly and seem to be helpful which really makes wonder why the other reviews are so low.

I have been a customer for 10 years. To put long story short, they will screw up if you have an unusual problem. For instance I had compromised credit card, my insurance company tried to charge me and bank give them nsf instead of card error. So insurance charge me nsf. Now I’m waiting for 2 weeks for the letter saying that my card was actually compromised to waive the fees. It is just one of the many examples how they do business nowadays. If you call them customer service representative do not know anything and will put you on hold after every single question you ask. On top of all that, ITRADE app is a nightmare. Transferring all the fund to another bank for sure.

The assistant manager, Kareem at 2 Robert Speck Pkwy #100, Mississauga, ON L4Z 1H8 was yelling at a female customer standing in line. I found this very disturbing especially in a bank/public place. It appears to me that Scotiabank management would have training for customer safety, workplace courtesy, business practices, RESPECT. This shows Scotiabank is not fulfilling it’s legal requirement to train its employees despite the record profit it makes. They are instead berating and belittling customers who simply want to use their services. I have been a customer for 45 years. I will not be patronizing scotiabank after this episode.

If I could give a negative rating, i would do that at the drop of a hat. I want to complain about the mishandling of my credit card by Scotia bank. Scotia bank allowed a vendor to charge my card over the credit limit of card, rendering me bankrupt, ripping apart my almost 800 credit rating to almost 400.

I use a Scotia Visa credit card with a credit limit of $1500. I paid UPS the sum of $1100 for a freighting of personal items from Manitoba to Toronto. UPS later charged my credit card on the weekend an extra $1912 for shipping the items that were yet to be delivered at the time.

I was alarmed when i saw the transaction and tried to get to the Scotia bank helplines to no avail.

I sent a credit dispute claim on this incident to Scotia Bank, initially they claimed they didn't get any claim, later they accepted they had. It took over 2 months for Scotia Bank to give me a feedback that since UPS delivered the items, I had no claim to make and that they were closing the case.

First of all, Scotia Bank offered no safeguards on my credit card so anyone can charge me for fun.

Scotia bank didn't take into account my sterling credit card payments or records in ensuring that i get back a reimbursement

Scotia Bank has continued to charge an over limit fee despite the account being in dispute

Scotia Bank has lost a customer, they threw me to the dogs to feast on. I must say that the bank is living on past glory and shall be moving my business elsewhere.

Simple digital access for a loan account on the online/mobile banking asks me to call the customer support. The wait time on customer calls for this are outrageously 45 mins long. This could have been easily self-serviced, without external manual interventions needed in first place.

Please fix this customer experience.

The old lady at the teller is very ignorant. She insisted that in order for me to increase my online payment limit, i had to call customer service. Imagine! I was at the bank and she was telling me that she can’t increase it from here and i have to go home and call customer service. How does that make any sense i was shocked at how ignorant she is but didn’t have time to argue as i was running late. I went back home and called the bank and guess what they said? “You should go to the bank” at this point i was about to risk it all but tried to stay calm. I said i’m not going to the bank i was there and the stupid old lady said to call. After a while they changed it over the phone and called the branch manager and notified her that THEY WERE WRONG and that YOU CAN INCREASE FROM BRANCH. A complaint was filed. Honestly i think that lady should just retire.

I have a debit card expired, went to the bank and being told I have to call if I want to keep the same card#. After an hour or call waiting, I was being told my new card were sent to a wrong address. Apparently they have two different address in their system. One is the correct address which I have been using for 20 years, but they sent it to the other one which they refuse to disclose. The worst part, They told me to wait for 30 days so their system can reset. Until then, they cannot mail me anything to my address…. I am seriously going to cancel my account and find another bank. Oh, thanks to the international call support from Thanush Subra and his manger Ana who refused to give me her last name, which are totally wasted of my time.

I guess I was the last to know that Scotiabank is just a horrible institution to bank with. I am definitely going to confess that I was shocked to see all the negative comments but it does make perfect sense.

Both the contact center and the Pickering Town Centre Branch are completely useless. They tell people different things and won't own up to their mistakes.

Employees at the Pickering branch are rude and condescending. I am going to name Carla here again like I did in the review for the branch. Not sure if this is how she's always talked to customers but she definitely needs training.

As everyone has stated, I'm ready to switch to another bank. As a matter of fact, I just closed my account. I bank with RBC and have had zero issues. Your entire organization needs rebranding and retraining. Do better by your customers.

I have been a customer for over 30 yrs. I am ready to change to another bank. Scotia's customer service is terrible and has been getting worse by the day. It has made sure that you cannot speak to a customer representative who can help you. I have no idea why it has instituted a phone service that effectively shuts you out or takes you to an overseas answering service that basically tells you it cannot help you. But Scotia likes to take your money and then forget about serving you when needed.

I've been with Scotiabank for over 20 years, but I am really ready to change banks right now. I called my home branch twice to confirm my bank account details for receiving money. The transit number they gave me both times was different from the one I had used before, but when I brought this up they assured me that it was correct. $520.00 was sent to me a month ago but I still haven't received it. When I called the bank the first time to tell them I haven't received money that was sent to me, they told me that the transit number I had been given previously was wrong. I have to call the bank every day for updates. They keep telling me they are investigating. Two days I left 3 messages and the person never called me back. I feel like I am begging to get information when this is completely their fault for giving me the wrong transit number. I have called different numbers, spoken to different people, emailed the office of the president, but nobody ever has an answer. I feel it is very disrespectful that they move so slowly and are so unresponsive regarding a problem they they themselves caused.

I regret writing this negative review, but this seems to be the way nowadays to provide some feedback to the head office and hopefully change things for the better. My family and I have been with Scotia and a particular branch in Richmond Hill at Yonge & 16th for over 25 years. Unfortunately, my late experience has been mediocre at best. Scotia's turnaround time is awful, and the level of branch staff competency is subpair. The simple tasks such as deposits/withdrawals/bill payments are ok, but all of it can be done online. Anything different from the daily routine is handled sluggishly and with exceptional incompetence. I am talking about small business matters, personal investment, mortgages, etc. I have no confidence in any advice from these people based on their actions and behavior. After one particular situation I decided to open alternative personal and business accounts with RBC and Meridian, and my experience with those institutions has been substantially better.

I really dislike this location. They get 2 stars only because there's one location I hate more than this one and it's the one at Steeles and Silver Star blvd. This branch closes at like 4 or 5pm pre-COVID and their Financial Advisors are incompetent. It's weird that this location is so bad when it's literally inside their head office.

I have used their new service sending an international banking transfer, was given a transaction number that was invalid and my money is now stuck with the bank for over 4 months. Was on the phone with their customer service for over 5 hours with no resolution and was told I'd get a call back from a higher management and it is now way past due date. Avoid sending money with them if you don't want your money stuck somewhere especially if it is an emergency.

Personal information is not safe with scotiabank. My card has been frauded with no investigations on scotiabanks part regardless of my pleas. They allowed my card to be frauded for months and told me i had to pay off thousands of frauded charges just to close my account. None of their services even work.

**TLDR; I visited this branch twice to increase my credit card limit and not only was my scheduled appointment not honored, my request was also not fulfilled. **

Long version:
Yesterday I visited this branch to increase my credit card limit because the customer care told me that this has to be done in a branch as I am under some multicultural program or something. I was told that this cannot be done over the counter and has to be consulted with a financial advisor. I was given an appointment the next day at 1pm to meet with one of the financial advisors. I was even sent a mail for the scheduled appointment.

Today 12: 58PM, I present myself at the reception as scheduled. The person at reception informs me to wait. Later she comes to me and apologizes that the financial advisor has a conflict with some other appointment (You guys gave me the appointment!). So I wait 15 mins. At 1: 15PM I was taken to the financial advisor's cabin. I let him know my purpose of visit. He's giving unclear answers like he has to feed my request to the system and system may approve or reject it. When I asked if it is not in his discretion to increase my credit limit, he says yes! Now I'm confused. A little while later, he says there's a human override that can be done. Note that all these info is coming in instalments when probed. Finally I said that I am about to change my employment and my income may increase, the financial advisor seemed to have taken that as a timely reason not to increase my credit limit and asked me to revisit the branch once I have the new paystub!

Absolute worst bank ever. Employees totally clueless. Worst customer service across all Scotiabank branches in any province. It’s simply that arrogance culture. Phone banking nightmare, mobile app complete disaster. Looks like some third grader programmed this app. ATM doesn’t even have heartbeat at most branches.
Walk into any branch ask for help employees immediately run a credit inquiry for any request without comprehending what customer requesting them to do. Wire transfer total nightmare. Took over two weeks then receding bank investigated and informed me Scotiabank made mistakes entering swift codes.
How pathetic. Hard to believe these clowns still taking up space on this planet.

Worst bank I have ever seen. The branch staff no matter which branch I visit, is rude not helpful at all. Live chat support people are also stupid you ask them to do something and they will do something else. I started to regret the moment I opened my account with this bank. I am going to close all my accounts and am sure Scotiabank is least bothered about losing customers. RBC, TD, BMO any one of them is better than this horrible bank with unprofessional staff. I think the whole management has some issues with customer service which is reflecting on all the staff whether branch staff or support staff.

I can’t believe they still source out their work overseas. When I ask to speak to a representative, I always get someone with an “apparently” Anglo name, who can hardly be understood because of their obvious very heavy East Asian accents. What’s even worse, when asking about the TU app to check my credit score, again without any warning, they switch me to another overseas “supposed Anglo rep” who then proceeds to ask for VERY private information such as my Social Insurance Number! Why would I release sensitive information to a total stranger overseas? Just because the bank says so? ! This very Bank that has numerous security breaches can’t even safeguard itself is now exposing its customers to international fraud. I’m done with this bank. I’m pulling my savings and going to a Credit Union where I’ll know and could actually understand who I’m speaking to at all times and where I know they won’t outsource customer service to make more money for its GREEDY SHAREHOLDERS!

Don't bother to use the Scotiabank Prepaid Visas. Their customer service is horrible and dealing with Scotiabank's Office of The President is useless. They can't even get my correct telephone number and address on file or follow up on an escalation within one month. Highly dissatisfied with their service. A gorgeous building, mostly the old part - that incorporates the historic Beaux Arts tower that was opened in 1951, and the new Scotia Plaza. Beautiful carvings can be found on the exterior of the building. Visit the old part inside, to see a soaring lobby with an historic clock.

Incredibly dysfunctional customer service, can't even handle basic inquiries. I have to speak very slowly and repeat myself 10 times to every agent because nobody there seems to understand basic English. All they can do is give me attitude. Extremely frustrating!
