Scout Cafe Restaurant

Scout Cafe is an unexpected gem. We'd been driving by for years without notice then took a chance on it this year and have been back several times because it is so good. Breakfasts are amazing with a mix of North American and Serbian options and their lunches and dinners are great. In the summer, it is worth it just to sit on their patio and enjoy they day. It has become a new staple.

Had breakfast at the Cafe. Food was good and reasonably priced. The server, Zoran, was excellent, very attentive. Definitely going back.

Today was my first time at this restaurant and I will definitely go back. The food was authentic, tasty & affordable, the staff were fast & friendly and the vibe was cozy and welcoming.

At length review of this place, but bare with me, please.
There was three of us that showed up here, out of the blue, with no reservations, at 5 pm. The restaurant was packed, every seat full. Dario was our host, and he worked very hard to find us a spot to sit at, and after a couple of trips up and down the stairs, he apologized, and offered us a seat at the main bar, to wait on a table. We said we don't mind the bar, and we were given menus and drinks to start off our journey.
When I say packed, I mean it. The food was flowing out of the kitchen at a volume only seen in cartoons, and with only two cooks going at it, it was an incredible sight to see.
We had to wait about 30 minutes for our food to arrive, which is more than understandable, and hot dang! Was it worth it. Every succulent piece of meat was seasoned to perfection, cooked perfectly, and tasted like heaven.
I ordered enough for 3 (yes, three) humans to feast on, and had enough leftovers to eat two more meals, and the price of it was $42.00. This platter, called the Battlefield Platter, was amazing, and worth twice that money, easily.

I strongly suggest stopping in here to eat, and experience an amazing European cuisine.

Awesome Restaurant in the Stoney Creek Area, Great European foods and a Awesome Wine list.
The service was Excellent with a Staff giving Outstanding, Hospitable Service To every customer.
The size portions per plate of food is Exceptional.
Felt so comfortable, just like Home, Thanks for making our Wine and Dine Experience one to remember and will definitely be back!

Love this place! Portions are large, food is fresh and delicious, perfect for meat lovers. The staff is nice and the place has recently been renovated and looks amazing.
This is my favorite restaurant in Hamilton for sure.

Best restaurant in stoney creek by far. Food fresh, location so fancy, service great and price reasonable. You can't find better place than this.

An authentic European restaurant. An extensive menu at an affordable price. I like the way they present the sea bass. It’s exactly the same the way the Mediterraneans eat them. Everything was just so fresh and tasty. Their wine list even has Dom Perignan! Not seen elsewhere a place like this. A real pearl hidden in downtown Stoney creek!

The restaurant is nice but the food and service is lacking. I ordered the cevapi and it was delivered to the wrong table. The server took it off of that table after about five mins and gave it to me, then asked me to count the number of cevapi. She told me “don’t worry, they didn’t touch it”. What kind of food safety is that? I told her I didn’t like that and she said it would take at least 20 mins for them to make me a fresh one. Never returning, if this is how they treat food in sight of customers who knows what goes on in the kitchen. Someone else at my table ordered a schnitzel with mashed potatoes and didn’t eat the potatoes as they were gritty and tasteless.

Have heard great things about this place and theyre true! Went for the first time for breakfast. Great food and attentive service. Casual and comfortable atmosphere. Serbian breakfast was an all inclusive feast! Looking forward to returning soon for lunch and supper!

Closed twice in one week during their normal business hours with no public notices. Wasted time and energy makes this a no go for a future attempt, for now. ALWAYS CALL FIRST for this establishment and confirm that they're actually open.

Conflicted with this place. Such a cool place but the service is non existent.

We are not often in the area, but were today and my husband suggested we check it out for lunch. Upstairs looked busy so we opted for seats downstairs. Lovely lovely atmosphere. Our server, Milica was awesome. We had conversations about various topics a number of times that she came to the table. (Travelling down east, the origins of the restaurant and the size of the portions (huge) and the availability of a party room on the lowest level) The food was amazing. As mentioned, the portions are huge. We ordered escargot as an appetizer. We've ordered escargot appetizers many places, but I can guarantee you we never received this large of a portion anywhere. Between the two of us, we couldn't finish it. I took the picture when we'd been eating it for a bit already. It is mushroom caps, escargot and melted cheese. However, unlike most escargot orders, it wasn't one of two escargot per mushroom cap. It was more like 6 or 7 per mushroom cap. Absolutely delicious. He ordered the grilled calamari and absolutely enjoyed it. Again, the portion was huge and we took some home with us. I had the club sandwich with a house salad. There was a large piece of grilled chicken on the sandwich. I was surprised as that is not usually the way club sandwiches come. They usually come with cold sliced chicken/turkey. It was delicious! I wish I'd taken pictures of the salad that came with my sandwich and his calamari. Very very tasty and appetizing. I've read other reviews and I cannot just leave this review without commenting on those other reviews. Our server, as mentioned earlier was pleasant (beyond pleasant actually) and the service was excellent. I don't understand people saying they were treated differently because they are not of the same culture. We did not experience that at all. Between the food and the great service from Milica, we will definitely be back.

My friend’s first time at Scout. She was over the top impressed. Our server was so attentive and friendly. The food was great. What makes their breakfast sausage so unique? Price point was spot on and although it’s not drip, their coffee was super hot and strong. What a nice change from stale, semiwarm carafe coffee you get at other places. The serving amount was perfect as well. The outdoor deck, although closed at the time, was beautifully decorated for Christmas. So European. My friend and I enjoyed our meal and experience tremendously.

Delicious and authentic Eastern European/Balkan food. Friendly service. Reasonable prices and large portions. We had the cevapi dinner with lepinja bread and it was great.

We (5 ladies) enjoyed a lovely dinner which we all enjoyed especially after Mirka's help understanding the variety of the menu!

Went here for my husbands grad with a larger group (about 10 people). All the food was delicious from the appetizers to the mains. Lord of great and deep flavours. I have shared pictures of most of the meals so you can see how large the portions are. The restaurant seems very clean and is well decorated. Want to give a special shout out to Boris who was our server, he was so kind and helpful and made sure we had a wonderful evening. Thank you and highly recommend

Amazing restaurant with great food and prices. The service with our server Mira was excellent and food was delivered promptly.

The one star rating is generous. I was here with my fiancé (who happens to be Jamaican) on October 28 for lunch. I wanted to share some of my culture & foods with my fiancé. The girl that was serving us had absolutely no intention of being kind (especially towards him). She didn’t come by to to check how our food was. But asked the others in the restaurant (in Serbian) how their meals were. The racism is very much noticed (& acknowledged in other reviews). But they don’t seem to care or hide it at all. I’m disgusted with such behaviour. This is Canada, where a lot of multicultural people live. Cater to everyone with a kind heart & a smile on your face. Learn what customer service is all about. Do better. We will not be returning.

The server and manager were so rude after they brought our dishes more than 45 minutes apart for the same party. When we went to speak with the manager the waitress said he is way to busy to deal with us and we heard him yelling from the kitchen all the reasons why they couldn’t serve us properly. We never got water refills, napkins, ketchup and our meals on time (my husband ate his entree and then 45 minutes later they brought my entree then after my entree they brought our appetizers? ” They were so ungrateful to have us and we definitely felt like we did matter. It was a large party and the manager even argued with us in front of a bunch of guests. Do not go unless you have no standards. It’s sad cause it did look good online. Far different from the actual experience.

Seems like this place only welcomes you if you’re of Balkan descent. Came in on a Friday night based on a recommendation from a friend. As a non-white male, the waitress looked me up and down and quickly said the restaurant was full even though there were many tables open. Don’t bother coming here if you’re not Serbian.

The good here is good, but not really worth the wait. The service is very slow, and I know that is the case everywhere right now. A lot of Greek -style options on the menu.
Going for lunch on a Saturday at 115pm took 2h to get, eat, and pay for 2 sandwiches for 2 people. I do eat slowly, however. Water takes a while to refill and the server seemed reluctant to serve the table.
There is VERY LITTLE parking on site, but there is a road next to it that allows street parking.

Worst experience, food came to our table at different times. We were a party of 21, for a birthday party. Food was good but service was the worst I have experienced. My kids ordered chicken shawarma and it was the last order that came which was about 70mins from when we ordered. My wife tried talking to the manager but she was brushed off saying he was busy working on takeout orders.

Ordered take out we paid around $35 for two people… my husband eat everything because the portion is very small! I won’t be coming back

On top of all this we gave them a tip because it was our first time we want to show a great big thanks … and when we got home with the food ugh what a horrible disappointment! If the menu has fries or rice you should add it to the order

Varied menu. Lots to choose from. We had a seafood platter shared and wings and ribs. Bruschetta too. Service was good. Server was helpful and cheerful. I will go back.

Great Serbian cuisine cafe, with the best Balkan dishes and some typical Austrian and Greek specialties. In general excellent European cuisine. Most dishes are meat and there are some excellent meat bladders but there are a few vegetarian options as well. Book service on a very pleasant environment. The prices are also quite reasonable. $20 for a chicken or pork entree with a side. Some fabulous meat and sausage platters for $22.

Portions are huge! Great food. I think one of the best restaurants in area for people loves European cuisine.

Had the shawarma with lepinja (Balkan flatbread) what a great change from the usual pita bread. Would definitely have that again. Service was slow for work lunch time crowd

Delicious food and great atmosphere. The menu is diverse and caters to many different preferences. The food is always fresh and prepared right to order. The patio out in the back is spacious and has a nice view of the Battlefield Park.

This restaurant wants to sit myself and my family (with kids) in the rain! I really DO NOT want to see this in the direction of my RACE.

Never been this embarrassed by a restaurant before.

My wife called well ahead to book a table for my family and we got there ontime only for the front desk lady who was particularly rude to say they don't have any available space and that she overbooked & was not in any way apologetic.

Right in there, some three (3) people walked in right in my presence.

To think this is the first time I'm trying this place out!

Great afternoon Patio! Quality of food and value are amazing. 4 of us came for lunch and started with a couple of Shopska salads. Highly recommend. Server suggested Lepinja Kajmak.soo good. And the Village platter. Wow! Need to feed a village, this is your go to. Great service, friendly and knowledgeable about the food. Will be back soon!

Breakfast was really fresh and tasty.portion size was more than enough for a hungry customer. Staff very friendly and the service was really good too.

Great patio and the grilled portobello with shrimp, tomatoes and feta was absolutely delicious!

Amazing quality food! Generous portions and authentic international flavours. I really appreciate how easy it was to order food during the Lockdown state. I can even phone in ahead with my order, pay for it in the lobby, and have it brought out to my vehicle. Very friendly service which was helpful since I was quite confused the first time I ordered after Lockdown. My favourites are their variety of Platters.made for two or more and excellent price for the huge portions I get!

Would be nice if they would get the orders correct and not try to make the customer feel guilty about it. That's not how a business is run.

Sadly, I cannot recommend Scout Cafe. The pro's are that it's a beautiful dine-in location; the effort put into the interior is clear to see, and I am sorry to see it largely negated with Covid. The con's are tragically just about everything else. Despite the luxurious dish descriptions, the multiple dishes that I ordered were devoid of taste, paired with a sloppy presentation all-round. Service was to-the-point and indifferent. Aside from a potential dine-in breakfast experience with friends, it's hard to find a reason to dine here over other local Eastern European food spots like Premier BBQ and Golden Flame. Sorry, Scout!

Very bad service and push you to get out the restaurant and leave while you ordered the desert and waiting for it. The lamb chops was totally burned and mash potatoes was tasteless. They do not know how to respect customers and serve them properly. I do not recommend it.

I admire this restaurant very much. It has a very special spirit. The cuisine is wonderful.the service is dynamic and the waiters are courteous. The pay is reasonable. I highly recommend.

I'm not going to lie, the service isnt as friendly as other reviewers are making them out to be. Seems like a very close knit/local hangout type of restaurant. HOWEVER, you will be treated like a paying customer and the food and prices are excellent. I can't stop thinking about the goulash.
