We finished designing and building our first custom home projct with Sensus last year and overall it was a really good experience. Almost as soon as we started construction, the world shut down due to covid and there were supply chain issues with raw materials. We were really worried that we would have big delays and cost overruns, but Sensus did a good job of making sure that we had all the materials we needed on time, and kept everything moving, doing their best to keep the costs under control as much as possible.

We built this house to sell so we were looking for a design and layout that would be very appealing to potential buyers, but we didn’t want it to look like a spec house, we wanted it to look like a custom home. Jesse was great to work with on the architectural and interior design and we are really happy with the finished results. The layout is open and spacious, the materials selected have a high end look but were in line with our budget. All of the bedrooms have built-in closets and the ensuite bathrooms all have different finishes.

We are busy people and didn’t want to have to stress about this build on a daily basis. John-Luke and his team was great at managing everything so that we could be hands off, but was always available when we needed him, and his team has been quick to respond to our post construction needs. We will definitely use Sensus in our future personal builds and recommend that you work with these two brothers if you want someone who is in control, thoughtful, and well planned.

Custom dream home with Sensus Design Studio, John Luke and Jesse a dream team in design, interiors and construction build.

We built our home with Sensus Design Studio during the height of the pandemic, we faced external challenges from city closures, permit delays and material/labour costs. John Luke and his team assured us by keeping close to permits, zoning, trade negotiations, working with the city to get it all processed efficiently. Before building, we did our due diligence with Sensus after seeing their projects and timely execution with neighbours. We were nervous, busy professionals with Pinterest boards full of transitional modern ideas and we needed an experienced team with a full service approach. Jesse brought our vision to life with in-depth architectural designs and critical reviews through many edits. The interior design team with Sensus were both collaborative and creative. They chose materials within our budget and scaled back areas to manage pandemic inflationary pressures. Tara their team coordinator, deserves an honourable mention as she is an incredible communicator to support all project time lines, budget questions and keeping construction progress in order. We are super happy living in our space some of the best features include the beautiful brick details, tons of natural light, chef’s kitchen, primary bath with luxurious hotel details, yoga/gym studio, and heated floors in the basement. Working with John Luke and Jesse gave us comfort and confidence, they have respectful working relations with their trades and even questions we have ongoing they are readily available to answer.

John-Luke & Jesse Sahlani are leading a wonderful company over at Sensus. Sensus led our home's complete gut renovation from start to finish and we landed in a place that was beyond what I could have imagined. Three things stand out about Sensus:

(1) The combination of the architectural expertise w/ Jesse and build expertise w/ John-Luke is a super-power for them. Incredible that the two brothers can work together in such a complimentary way. Really gave us confidence that both the design and the build side are taken care of.

(2) The Sensus team has a strong opinion about design but they are not dogmatic about what needs to be done. My wife Mel was able to help design parts of the home alongside Sensus. It was really awesome to see the balance Sensus struck between listening closely to our wishes as a client and pushing back on us when something was going to end up not as functional as we would have liked.

(3) Sensus works with some wonderful partners. In a business like this where I have now seen how much goes into building a home like this - you need a strong network of trustworthy, dependable partners to build with. Sensus works will some of the best millwork, hvac, window, etc.guys in the city. Having a GC that can bring together a team like that is really special.

Finally - Sensus was really fun to work with. There are high stress moments when designing and building a new home. Costs will overrun, timelines will get pushed, it is the nature of a large complex project. The most important part is that we had constant communication throughout and a partner with the utmost integrity.

John-Luke and Jessie helped my husband and I design our absolute dream home! They were professional and helped us through each step of the process. This was our first time doing any sort of home design and they designed something beyond our expectations. We met with over a dozen different architects before landing on Sensus and would not hesitate to hire them again for another project in the future! I’m not going to sugar coat it, the build can become long and frustrating but the designing phase prepared us for all sorts of difficulties that we would eventually come upon. John Luke even recommended us with some great contractors when we were stuck at various stages of our build. They truly wanted to ensure that it was completed in the way we all envisioned and they went above and beyond!

John-Luke and the team at Sensus Design & Build built our family's custom home. Having moved into our home for more than a year, I can say that my family and I are very happy with the end result of this project. The home construction process is a process that is very stressful and inevitably comes with several ups and downs but working with Sensus made the process significantly easier. Working with Sensus has really helped to streamline the process of building. If you are new to the game, you may think you can do it all yourself and maybe you could but it will take a lot longer and time is money. Stress creeps in and you will lose in the end. The referrals that they can give you will also help to lower your costs and end up paying for themselves.

Sensus has designed a new three-story custom house for my family. We are very pleased with the progress and the outcome. The entire process was well managed and delivered smoothly, as it had been described to us by John-Luke at the outset. Through several interviews and iterative discussions, our conceptual plan was translated into a very professional set of drawings and details, addressing a big wish list of all family members! Austin as the main designer has patiently provided us with progressive plans while Jesse as the lead architect has overseen the design regularly and refined it with his magic touch. Due to the City changing bylaws, we had to go through a few revisions and foot print decrease. Sensus has managed collaborating with the City and addressed their needs without compromising any of our required features. Overall, Sensus has demonstrated integrity, professionalism and excellent customer interaction. Their design is top notch and timeless. It is highly recommended working with them.

I worked with Sensus Design for an addition on my home. Their architect was very professional and knowledgable. He listened to my wishes and incorporated everything I wanted and also advised me well.
