Honestly its not as bad as people make it seem. I went to renew my health card and the process is very simple tbh. You go in and wait in a line, if you dont have an appointment, and sit/stand for half an hour till they call you. I was there at 8: 10 on a Tuesday and there were at least 20 people already there (i got out at 9: 10). All you need is a passport, report card, and maybe a student id. Overall, the people at the desk were very nice and it was a very reasonable process. (If u can wait a month get an appointment)

This is a pretty good location. I've been here twice. The staff has been friendly and helpful on both occasions. There is paid uncovered parking available onsite, though it is limited in capacity and I imagine it gets full quite easily. I could only see a handful of empty spaces even when there was a very small number of people at ServiceOntario.

It's 2023, and it's amazing that you still have to carry paper and work in an analog way. The integrated system of each department is urgently needed! I would like to applaud the staff's determination to find fault with my work and send it back somehow My precious day has been ruined by my slow and unfriendly work

It's a pity for visitors who line up all day as if it's natural. Government in Canada are the best place to work - it's a waste of a star!

If I can give -5 for my experience I would. Worst agency I dealt with. Very poor service. They don’t say what documents they need the 1st time. 1st it was my work permit that was unreadable, requested another copy from IRCC, then went back again after 3 wks with the clear copy of my work permit, the lady said they need an employment letter, after 6 days I went back with it, (3rd time) got counter 19 for the 2nd time, she said all is okay but it needs to have the word full-time. I said, the no. Of hours is a proof that in a span of 8 months it’s like I worked for 48hrs a wk. She said no they can’t speculate. They just don’t care if people’s time and effort is wasted. Waited 2 hrs each visit. Not a good agency and customer service at all. I wish I don’t have to deal with them in the future. Rubbish customer service to the highest degree.

Lady on the counter no. 17 was so rude to me. I had all the documents to apply for OHIP but still she said my job letter/ reference documents are not right and refused to take them. I will not be coming to this location ever. Waste of time. I took a day off just to come here because they are not open on sat.

I visited this branch located on the 4th Floor (47 Sheppard is the 2nd building on the inside behind 45) on a Tuesday afternoon to get my health card and, had a seamless experience.
Thanks to the fact that i was able to book an appointment just a day before saved me a lot of time in waiting queues (Trust me there was a long one)

I arrived 15 mins prior to my appointment time, stood in a comparatively way short line (only 5 folks) for my turn and reached one of the agents in like another 16 mins.
I was provided with a form to fill in my details and along with the necessary proof i was carrying for the task i was done in less than 10 mins.
Overall I had a smooth and fast experience, very efficient and friendly staff working here so you get the assistance you are looking for within their capacity.

Facts from my experience to get my (OHIP) Health Card:

BEFORE GOING:
1. - I booked an appointment online, it was easy and simple. You get a confirmation on your email. You'll need it.
2. - From the ServiceOntario website I downloaded, filled and printed the form. This saves you time when you get there.

UPPON ARRIVAL (I arrived 5 min before my appointment)
3. - Let your self into building #47 and get the elevator to the 4th floor
4. - Find the "With appointment" line, this is where I was greeted by security personnel who were handling the queue. They'll ask you your name and last name to confirm the appointment.
5. - I was let in to the first counter where I was asked what was the purpose of my visit and validated I had brought all necessary documents. This took about 3 min.
6. - After a very short wait for my turn I went to the designated counter where I submitted my documents.

My overall experience was very good, the personnel helped me with all my questions and I was able to get my health card. The entire process, from arriving to leaving the office, was around 20 min.

Take ALL necessary documents described at ServiceOntario online page. I cannot stress enough how important this is. If you go and don't have all required documentation you'll be sent back.

I highly recommend booking an appointment. The queue for walk in was almost till the elevator doors. I had an appointment for Health Card at mid afternoon - I waited maybe 2-3 minutes past the appointment time. Also it is best to take paper copies of the required documents.

I was a bit scared based on the reviews here, yet, it was a very smooth experience. Try to book an appointment (I booked mine the day before, they had a few available) as the line for walk-ins is very long. Once you get there check if you are in the right line (walk-ins or with appointment).

We were freaking out and crying because we have a flight in a couple days. When we went in she got it done in 2 minutes! We were so relieved. Legit and reasonable applicants with any bit of explainable flaw in documentations would be blindly turned down. Prepare yourself coming here two or three times just for some simple renewals and get inquired as if you were detained by committing some crimes.

I’ve had the worst experience at the location. Went to get my health card. The lady said one of my documents was not accepted even though on their website it said it was accepted. Reluctantly she called her head office to check and she says, i don’t know what this nonsense document is.
Rude staff. Will never go back here again.

I was really anxious about my appointment (due to another location and the previous reviews for this one) so my partner and I were extra careful in checking over our documents before arriving for our appointments. The whole process was quick, smooth, and very pleasant. All the workers that we had contact with were very helpful and polite. My partner made some mistakes on the application form but the clerk was very patient. The whole appointment was stress-free. Thank you!

Really worst experience here. I came here three times to get my Ohip. The first time the lady told me they don't accept job offer but rather an employment letter, and she told me everything else were good. Next time I brought my employment letter. Then she told me this one had to be signed by someone and questioned that I could fake the employment letter. Then she started to question my identity at Canada. She noticed I started the work at the beginning of the year but received my work permit at May. I literally explained two times to her as long as you submitted the application, you are good for the work. She said you need to bring payroll to prove it. I was really speechless. For the Chinese old women at #15, if you don't understand the immigration policy, could you just shut up and do your work?

Visited this place three times to try to apply for OHIP.

The first time the application was refused because the bank statement we provided is not acceptable. The gentleman explained that the same issue happened to a lot of people before but there is nothing he could do. He gave us some suggestions including contacting the bank or applying for photoID. We accepted his explanation and we contacted the bank.

The next month we received a formal bank statement and went back again. This time the lady helped us said that the letter from immigration Canada is not acceptable. We explained that the Service Ontario website clearly states that this letter is acceptable. However, the lady insisted that we should wait for the landed paper. We show her the electronic landed paper on phone (we didn’t print it out because we thought that the letter we already have is good enough), she said “this one is okay but you need to print it out”.

We printed out the landed paper and went back again. It was another lady helped us and this time this lady questioned our bank statement. She said “it doesn’t look right. “ We were so speechless and show her the bank statement on the bank’s APP on phone. She insisted that this bank statement “doesn’t look right. I used this bank as well but your statement doesn’t look like mine. ” Excuse me? How do I know why the bank gave me a statement that looks different than yours? She was like “I don’t know. But yours is not what we need. Maybe you can open a new account in another bank or apply for a photo ID and come back next month. ” She continued “What we need is a statement that shows your activities (the statement we provided shows activities like transferring moneys and using ATMs). You just go to Tim Hortons and grab a coffee, and your activity will be shown on your next month’s statement. Then come back next month. ” Okay, so using ATMs are not considered “activities” and paying in cash is not acceptable? Maybe you should list this requirement on your website. And if the statement “doesn’t look right” I strongly suggest you to provide the acceptable bank statement template on your website, or just simply remove the name of the bank that doesn’t always generate the statement with the “correct” template. Maybe I should let the bank know their customers are not treated fairly in government’s office because the bank statement they generated “doesn’t look right”, and the customer is advised to open new account from another bank.

Don't expect the hired security guards to be friendly and courteous - they are there to keep the line moving. The office is located on the 4th floor, the first guard will ask you if you have an appointment or not, and will guide you to the proper line. There is a QR code on the wall for COVID-19 screening. A second guard will confirm if you cleared the screening. Having an appointment will cut your wait time significantly. If you walk-in, expect to wait at least an hour.

After the second guard, you'll get to a reception that will confirm your appointment and issue you a number. Sit or stand, wait for you number on the display.

I had a slight issue with one of my documents, unfortunately the manager could not move forward with the process and I'll need to return. It wasn't a significant problem but the matter could not be resolved efficiently on the same day.

Yes - some of the agents here are less experienced, your patience will be tested. Just keep an open mind, be patient, have your documents ready, and you'll be fine.

Booked an appointment to renew my health card. Literally took me less than 5 minutes from entry to exit. I think I had to wait longer for the elevators both when coming up and going down. The staff were super helpful. I was not only able to renew my own health card but even do it for my minor son which was not supposed to be a part of the appointment. Very well organized compared to the other Service Ontario locations I have visited.

The person who was suppose to register me for health card was super rude. She was literally like you don’t know this and that. So much of insult. This is a government office. Negative stars to this place. From security guard to the employees, everybody is rude and to an extent racist. Instead of helping out (which is what "service" means) they choose to raise their voice and try their best to not let you have OHIP (with documents that other Service Ontario sites would accept). Highly disappointed in the government for hiring these impolite, unprofessional and racist individuals.

The security in front of service Ontario is really rude. When I talk to him, he goes away and pretends hear nothing. He asks me to scan the QR code, even I have done that and show him the screen, and he ignores and goes away. When I try to explain something or say something, he chooses to hear nothing and goes away. Of course he is not the deaf, he answers other people’s questions except me. Really uncomfortable experience. I will give three stars because staff inside are really kind and nice.

I had a good experience here. I booked an appointment online and I highly recommend doing so a day or two before your visit. There were few people ahead of me in the appointment queue (and more people in the no appointment queue). Once they handed me my number, I was called to a desk within a minute where I was helped by Kaylin who was polite and knowledgeable. Shockingly, I was in and out in 10 minutes. The only downside to visiting this location is that you have to pay to park around this area. There is parking behind the building, but if you're willing to walk, parking can be found on the local streets at $2 for 30 minutes. Thanks!

I went to service Ontario to renew my health card early in the morning. They prefer everybody to make an appointment online before come in. I don’t have an appointment but they still let me in because the volume was not bad at that time. The whole process took about 15 mins and the officers there were nice. It’s actually a very good experience. I must be really lucky.

My experience here was upsetting. The receptionist spoke to me—and I noticed to others too—in such a way that feels like she is irritated with you for no reason and you are unwelcomed. I understand that because it is a ServiceOntario centre, one of the qualities they most value in their employees is probably promptness, but one can be prompt and friendly, or at the least kind, at the same time. It felt like the intention was to just dismiss me and not to provide any service or help to me. I will never return to this location and if ever I am asked by someone to recommend a location, I will never mention this one.

I bring the all the required documents according to the website. But they just keep telling me they need more proof, more supporting documents bla bla bla. I have lived in this neighbourhood for the past 15 years and i have always used this Service Ontario location. In my experience, they were always good but have gotten even better over time.
