This was such a great restaurant! I've never had Ethiopian food before so was excited to try. It was really delicious! The shared plate for 2 was a perfect amount of food. The service was amazing. Very accommodating of allergies and helped explain the dishes on the platter. What a great gem in Cabbagetown. Really recommend it!
Their food was so delicious! The Shalom platter came with a variety of veggies and each one was absolutely delicious. The platter I ordered came with chicken and an egg. The gravy was very tasty. The service is also great. The lady who served us was so kind and explained her dishes with a smile every time I asked a question. Highly recommend!
My sister came for a visit and she wanted to eat Ethiopian food. I found this restaurant via Google. The food is delicious, and the owner is very friendly and shared with us the story about how coffee was discovered. We tried the meat platter and the vegetable platter; both were abundant and delicious, with lots of flavour. We had the coffee, and it was awesome. We watched how it was roasted and how it was prepared
I love the Ethiopian food and this is such a good spot to have it while I am in Toronto. The meal was super fresh and healthy. Also, I enjoyed chatting with the owner. She is very friendly. Definitely recommend this restaurant, will visit again!
This was my first experience with Ethiopian food, and i knocked my socks off! The food was incredible, and i am wishing that I was closer to here so I could come by more often! I loved the veggie side dishes, they complimented the spicy chicken perfectly!
I had a wonderful catering experience with Shalom restaurant! Saba was a pleasure to work with and offered a variety of vegan/gluten-free options for our party. We had 6 different stews, injera and samosas. Our guests loved it! It was such a unique and fun dining experience. The food was ready and perfectly packaged at the time I came to pick it up. All of it was delicious, homemade, and full of flavor. Our guests could not stop complimenting the food!
The food was amazing and the owner is so friendly. We got the taste of shalom platter with lamb, and the vegetarian platter. It was plenty of food and their coffee is freshly roasted every morning. I'm definitely coming back here again!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Toronto! The atmosphere is warm and cozy, the incense smells amazing, and the food and service are excellent.
On the first day I arrived to Toronto to visit my boyfriend, we ate at Shalom. A year later, I returned to the city and Shalom has been a haven of comforting, delicious food to share with someone I love. This place holds such a special place in my heart and it’s a gem in Cabbagetown.
The vegetarian platter is rich with complementing flavors. We also tried the coffee ceremony, and the coffee is so robust and tasty. Thank you so much! I will miss this place and will always come back to it every time I’m in Toronto.
The dining experience starts with the pleasant atmosphere of the restaurant. Service was friendly and efficient especially considering the number of tables she was serving. Our party of six had a samosa appetizer and two veggie platters which were more than satisfying. The samosas were crispy without being overcooked or oily and the centre was warm and delicious and savoury. The lentil selection on the vegetable platter was spicy without being overpowering and complimented the injera nicely. We are definitely looking forward to our next visit.
One of my favourite places in the neighbourhood. I also get my coffee beans there (call in advance so they can roast it for you by the time you go pick it up).
I've tried all the more popular places on the Danforth and this one makes the best kitfo and injera out of all of them. Food is so gud here and decently spicy! Only reason they're not 5 stars is cuz they can sadly be hit or miss in terms of portions/freshness/value/quality. If it weren't so variable they would b one of my fav restaurants, no question
What an amazing experience to be had at Shalom - Saba just made us feel right at home with amazing hospitality and of course the food too which was so fresh and flavoursome. Being a part of the coffee ceremony made us feel so special. We truly had an enjoyable time and can't wait to return!
Amazing! Our first time having Ethiopian food and we’ll be back again for sure. We had the vegetarian platter for two and the Ethiopian coffee for two which came with popcorn and incense. The lady working was very kind and shared with us some cultural tips (don’t fill your coffee half way - it’s bad luck). We will be back with friends! Food, service and atmosphere - excellent!
Very flavourful and authentic Ethiopian food. We always order the vegetarian platter then we eat in and order our fav vegetarian dishes when we eat out. Always pleased with the quality of the food and service. The owner is very nice and we have had many conversations with her. Make sure you give this place a try. It is as good as the best Ethiopian in the city but for less $$!
I would like to start of by saying how amazing Saba is. The food is sooo delicious and She is very friendly to everyone and she has great costumer service. Ever time I am craving Ethiopian food shalom is the place to go. I highly recommend it.
Absolutly incredible authentic Ethiopian food in a small little cozy whole in the wall. You can taste the passion in the food. The Ethiopian coffee qnd ginger tea was also incredible.
Cancelled my TooGoodToGo order when I was 1min away from the restaurant. People inside were rude and unapologetic. Do not recommend placing any orders here.
Friendly service. Good food and reasonable prices. We got the veggie Sambusa and the Shalom platter to share. More than enough food for two people. Food took a bit longer than expected but it was a lovely day to sit on the patio. Would go again
Absolutely disgusting I'm sorry. The bread that goes with the raw meat was beyond sour. Overpriced as well. Maybe I got a bad batch but still felt like I threw my money down the drain. I ordered through doordash
Love this place! The food is delicious and fresh. Love the in resto experience with coffee service, and also for takeout and delivery. Doesn’t disappoint!
Great food, great portions, great service, great atmosphere and great presentation. Take out containers are really nice too, with individual compartments to keep the different dishes separate. Lovely staff, very warm and friendly. I would definitely recommend.
Absolutely incredible. So delicious. Had the Taste of Shalom platter with lamb stew. Stew was so damn good. All the sides were so delicious. It will defintely be a little bit of a wait, so if your impatient, stir clear. But it is 100 percent worth it in the end.
First time trying out this restaurant. Was looking for a rice speciality dish. Staff was nice and helpful over the phone. They made a lamb dish with rice. Was not really what I expected it to be because I thought it would have been mixed in. The meat was really hard to chew and not soft. Flavors were okay.
. The food is delicious (meats are spicy) and wholesome. The taste of Shalom and meat platters were super tasty. Ordered with Ritual, had a problem and arrived after they had closed and they were kind enough to wait (thanks and sorry!)
Ethiopian & Eritrean restaurant in my Neighborhood Cabbagetown finally I don't have to go far to find a great authentic food, I have Kita Firfir & Firfir, I wish I can show you the pictures but as they say, write a review after you eaten, the food very tasty the price is very reasonable, Cheers! Its a big win for the customer!
This restaurant is a nice gem in the neighbourhood. The staff are very welcoming and will help you choose a dish, if you happen to be unfamiliar with Ethiopian food/culture like I was. The food is tasty and the portions are very generous and reasonably priced. That spicy cha cha is my favourite; it's delicious. I used to enjoy sitting in this restaurant before the lockdown and just take in the Ethiopian/Eritrean cultural vibe, while sipping on some nice Ethiopian coffee. But takeout service is good, and the food taste just as good. I'm looking forward to some day enjoying that dine-in experience once again.
I’m very disappointed with this restaurant. I ordered on Uber Eats and it was a mess! Food was burnt and too spicy when I specifically said to take it easy on the spice. There was also something missing from my order - Meat Platter for 1 was missing and nowhere to be found when I spent $20 on it. Very disappointed and will NEVER order from this restaurant again! Customers BEWARE of this joke of a restaurant!
The best Ethiopian food I've had so far. Their veg platter is such a lovely burst of different flavours and textures! The injera is perfectly soft and sour.
Visited Friday Night - cozy place. Host is very nice and helpful, she helped us in ordering, we requested for spicy, she said we will give spicy powder on the side. We loved the food and most importantly our host, she kept checking on us making sure we are enjoying our food.
Humble restaurant tucked away on Parliament and Wellesley in a quiet neighborhood. But wow, amazing food, warm hosting that feels like home. Both the cook and the waiting staff are lovely people. The platter as usual with the curries on the side is a super option with the protein chicken of a flavourful spice in the Center. Must visit, we will surely be going back.
