Sherwood Inn

We stayed for a couple of nights after the wedding of our younger son to his Torontonian bride. The room was lovely with a spacious balcony overlooking the lake. The ambience was perfect for us - relaxed and unstuffy. Staff were attentive without being overbearing. Food was great, enhanced by enjoying it outside in the garden terrace. Sadly we were not there long enough to take advantage of all the facilities, but an early canoe trip before breakfast was a highlight. Thoroughly recommended.

We had a late lunch. Did not stay here. From the outside place looked a bit rundown. Food took a long time. Setting was peaceful. Friendly professional service.

Great location. However, the hotel requires significant grounds clean up, and service. Menu lacks originality and inspiration, pricey, however well executed.

We spent 3 nights at the Sherwood Inn with our family but also extended family.

The room was nice lovely view. The bathroom is ok shower rather basic needs a soap dish, towel rack. Too basic at the moment.

Service in the restaurant was good. There are zero options for vegan types, or those who have food intolerances.
Room servicing was very late in the afternoon

All in all the hotel needs some updating.

Went for a wedding. It was a private event so resort was closed. The weather was horrible but the staff and venue was great. Food was delicious. We had a great time.

It’s a bit dated, but in a charming way. The property is great, all the extra amenities are awesome, fat tire bikes, cross-country skis, snow shoes…
A great little hidden getaway

I have been here many times and loved the food this visit I wasted 100 on food that wasn’t for to eat. The chicken sandwich is tenders on bread the wings over cooked and burned they didn’t even shovel or plow for us to get from room to dinner. I emailed them about it no response what a waste of money and the food prices through the roof. And we ordered basic food good thing we didn’t order steak!

My husband and I stayed here while visiting muskoka. It was so rustic and charming inside privately located on the lake- it was so much nicer than staying at a regular hotel. The staff made it that much better and especially the kind bartender! Definitely recommend.

We had a room booked for a wedding and they charged us a resort amenity fee. Then when we complained that the AC unit was faulty they told us we where wrong that everything was fine. AC unit had a cardboard piece taped on it with bandaids. Worst customer service ever. Don't waste your money at this resort.

Location is nice, obviously, but stepping into the rooms is a flashback to the 90’s, old beat up furniture, small tv and overall underwhelming accommodations. Place really needs an overhaul. Food at the restaurant is good but not worth the price. Staff are great however.

Relaxing on the shores of Lake Joseph Ontario. Great food. Comfortable rooms. Quiet and relaxing atmosphere.

We stayed here 2 weekends ago. We planned on staying 2 nights and left the very next day. The grounds as most have described are beautiful, which is the wonder and beauty of Muskoka.
We stayed in the Cedarwoods rooms. The walls were dirty, outdated furniture and our A/C unit dripped and leaked all night onto the floor where we had to set up towels. There were 2inch holes above and a 1inch hole below the unit revealing the electrical work behind.

Went with the Inlaws who had booked us the trip for a memorable experience, Unfortunately it was but not a good one.
At the prices they charge you'd expect the Best and this was FAR from it. Had it not been a gift from the inlaws, and I had booked this, We would have been leaving immediately and asking for a refund.
Their restaurant we ate at was over priced for undercooked steak that came out blue when asked for medium rare.

Quaint and charming. With friendly staff. Everything you need in a Muskoka getaway. Sunday morning buffet breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Did not eat at the Dining room but should have! Amazing waterfront - sandy beach and warm waters with canoes and paddleboards for your use. Lots of little places to sit and watch the lake make this a picture perfect place to get away from the hustle of the city.

It was an amazing experience working with Christina and the sherwood team on our wedding. The day couldn't have gone smoother and you guys made it so worth the year of planning! Couldn't have asked for a better day.

The accommodations were beautiful, and food and service was impeccable!

We stayed at the Sherwood in for a golf retreat with friends. It was a great location and I can see why people are drawn to the “Inn on the water”.
Rooms were ok, bed was comfy. After a day of golf all I wanted was a bath it took like 30 min to fill the tub because of the water pressure. It was a jetted tub which would of been nice, but when I started the jets all this grime and dirt came out and into the water. Ended up then draining the water and having to have a shower.
You couldn’t order just a simple breakfast (just a muffin or toast) in the morning, they were only doing a buffet for $22.
Sherwood inn served a purpose for somewhere to stay, but maybe you have to get to upgraded more expensive rooms for better amenities.

We visited it over the long Victoria weekend and what a great visit it was. The staff are great, very welcoming and very supportive and understanding. The food quality and the menus are perfect, easy read and food selection was no brainer. The culinary staff were quick to serve us, they were on point in providing quick turn around in case the meals were not on time.

I enjoyed the pasta dish and the fish and chips, they really reminded me of my time back in the UK. The Irish coffee was good.
The room was clean, the daily cleaning service and staff were on time visiting and providing the cleaning services.

I loved it when management staff came in the morning during breakfast to greet us and asking if they can be of any help.

The surrounding nature was beautiful. Viewing the beach side from the room in early morning and listening to the water waves were relaxing.

We stayed three days at the Sherwood inn resort for a weekend get away and it was worth it.
- we were welcomed with a staff member (with an English accent) ; she helped us get around the inn easily and told us about some of the attraction places during our stay and daily asked us about our visit and any help could offer.
- The room and the patio were clean, the cleaning staff visit and clean the room daily. We were at the Maplewood building
- The food at lounge and vintage hall were delicious, high quality, exquisite and fine dinning experience. The staff are so welcoming, went above and beyond to ensure we had a good dinning experience. In case of delays, they were on spot to let us know.
- The food menus were diverse, easy to read and food selection was smooth. Chef Michael Schulz and his new added chicken Pasta meal was great. Though we enjoyed all what was served, the pasta dish had its unique touch, the pastas and sauce are moist, the chicken was tender and smell/taste was spot on. I called it a money machine meal.
- The watersides, the beach, the trees and the surrounding beautiful nature provides full relaxation
- The firepit in front of the main building was nice for social gathering and eating marshmallows

On the con side, the WiFi services in the facility is slow and upgrade would be necessary.

- Beautiful resort on Lake Joseph in Muskoka.
- Excellent Customer Service (Prompt & Courteous).
- Clean rooms with great views.
- Several activities during Winter & Summer seasons.
- Access to scenic nature trails.
- Exquisite fine dining menu.

Make sure to book a lakeview room. Enjoy!

I could not have been more pleased with my stay at the Sherwood Inn. The Staff went above and beyond my expectations, and did so with a smile. The food was plentiful and delicious. My room was comfy and cozy and the fireplace was a nice touch as well. I would stay there again for sure. Thank you for making my stay so enjoyable!

A lovely place with very welcoming staff. Personally got a Maplewood cedar room with a fireplace and jacuzzi. Feel free to surprise your partner with wine and chocolate covered strawberries for a romantic retreat. And an absolute must: Make sure to reserve a spot at their restaurant for a vantages dinner. Pricey, but well worth it.

Love this place! Was here in November for my birthday and this past weekend for a hiking trip. Beautiful area, great room & view from my balcony, fantastic friendly service! Will be back again.

They took my money I tried many times to change my dates for over two weeks but keep getting redirected. Finally was told I couldn't not enough time. Lost all my money wouldn't even let me pick new dates. 1000. Dollars of my hard earned money. They They don't care

Amazing stay! Popular place. All booked up when we visited on the Valentines day weekend.

Our room didn't have a tub. Didn't need it. Water temperature is great. Old school radiator heat. So expect some noises at night. Other than that the rooms are great! You will find everything that you need.

We ordered from the lounge menu. Tasty! Loved the salmon flatbread and the wings. Gonna try the Vantage menu next time.

Right by the lake. Summer would beautiful there.

An outstanding resort to stay. My wife have been coming here for about 4 years and we were even married here. It's a lovely old Inn with an abundance of charm. Less than 50 rooms makes it feel cozy and personal. If I could get reservations in the summer I'd love to stay here.

Our room was small & didn’t have a lake view even though we paid extra for it which was disappointing but it was clean & comfortable. The property is very scenic & the trails were nice to walk. Was looking forward to the fire pit but never got a chance due to there only being the small fire at the front doors with 4 chairs always occupied. The food was delicious though portions were on the smaller side for the boar & roast beef.

Relaxing on the balcony with a beautiful view of the lake was the highlight.
Fireplace in the room adds that touch of country comfort.

In a word. Neglect. We had been here before years ago. We definaltley won't be back. Dirty, run down and generally unkempt. The Maple building has an awful odour and was quite dirty. A disappointing experience. Staff were not friendly, the "fine dining" was anything but. We were not told at check in that the breakfast is now extra and its absurdly priced and unappealing The grounds were run down. Be advised that there is no accessibility at all so if you need ramps, railings or any assistance there is none here. Their trails need work, not clear in some areas, a broken bridge. Muskoka and Lake Joseph are beautiful, just experience them from somewhere else. This facility is not worth it. Would not recommend this location. We cut our trip short by a day and a half. It was that bad.

My wife and I have stayed here a few times in the fall. We have noticed a decline in the accommodations, as mentioned in other reviews, the rooms need renovating.
In addition this year, it was extremely difficult to eat in the lounge or the dining room.
We decided to eat in our room. We tried to order and were told to call back in 45 minutes as we would get our order quicker that way.really?
If you have trouble hiring staff, then for your customers sake, maybe don’t put on a special and have the place filled.your staff simply could not handle it, and it’s unfair to them as well.
If you go there, the Bass Lake House is just a short drive and it will be a lot quicker and the food is just as good but about half the price.

Good idea, but the patio only dining lessened the experience. We paid a premium to bring our dog. Our room was out of the way, up the hill, and on the 2nd floor.not great for an older dog with mobility issues (and my own!). The dog swim area was a tiny, slippery rock area. Both my wife and our dog both slipped and fell. Perhaps letting dogs swim on the unused beach section past the canoes would work.

The atmosphere was awesome. The room and exterior grounds were well kept. We had the luxury room which was clean and comfortable but need renovating.

Nice place, beautiful views. Giving only 3 stars as I wish they had heaters on the patio to accommodate dinner or drinks during my visit this spring. It was so chilly for outside dining.

Highly recommended, I just spend Canada day weekend there, very friendly staff and manager the place is amazing among 7 figures cottages. I will definitely go back:)

We were treated like royalty! The room was beautiful with a lake view. Next time we'll hope to enjoy the dining room and the lake once it's warmer. It was the retreat we needed, thank you to all the staff.

I expected a high level of customer service from a place like this based on where it’s located and the reviews. Im sad to say it was not there;l: they booked us a golf package with no available tee times, offered no solution, and did not acknowledge or apologize for the mistake. I would stay at another Muskoka gem that will live up to what they say and your expectations.

Very friendly and helpful staff, beautiful location. The room I had was clean, bed was super comfy. The painting/upkeep of room itself was a little messy (paint, tilted lamp) but it wasn't enough to upset my stay. The only negative part was the lack of sound proof between rooms; I could hear my neighbors very clearly through the walls. Would certainly go back though

The location is nice and the staff are helpful but the rooms and buildings are dated. Also, our room was not particularly clean, although they claim to be taking “extra” cleaning steps these days. The floors of our room were dirty and there were mouse droppings in the closet. We had a fireplace but the wood that is supplied is so green that all we were able to do was fill the room with smoke.

Nice getaway location. Visited in Winter and it’s a beautiful spot with walking trails close by. Easy to get to, spacious rooms and beautiful views. Food was good (easy to use take out) and staff attentive to COVID protocols.

Awesome room in the Maplewood this year. Perfect bed, jacuzzi and fireplace. Last year we also loved the main house. Snowshoe trails were lots of fun.

The lakeside rooms are fantastic and the food was amazing. If you need to destress for a few day I recommend the Sherwood Inn.

Great hidden gem in the Muskoka's. Food and service are excellent. Classic 1930 charm with a modern twist.

Food was incredible, atmosphere can't be beat. The bed was super comfortable but the room and the rest of the furniture is showing it's age. Still highly recommend!

The beautiful outdoors make up for the rest. We stayed here for 3 days for a fall getaway, like I said earlier the area is the real attraction here. We were in room 212 which is located in the main Inn. I would avoid this room, its directly outside the main entrance which also hosts a fire every night so we found it loud and smokey, not to mention the screens on the windows were all torn so you couldn't open the windows anyway or bugs get in (see picture). Its as though things feel like they are being let go. Pipes in the main building make a god awful noise in the middle of the night which the front desk informed us is normal? I would avoid the buffet breakfast, at 20 dollars per person it was both overpriced and frankly not very good at all, we were there around 9: 15am and everything was cold and semi stale, and not fresh. We also had a dinner in their "fine" dining room which was not a good value at all, I've had full steak dinners at the Keg for HALF the price that were infinitely better. Very disappointed in the meal there, chewy fatty meat and mediocre at best. We love the Muskoka area and will always visit, but we'll look for another place to stay. Staff were friendly.

Sherwood Inn hosted our elopement wedding in October. It was beautiful! We stayed in the Boat House for 2 nights and could not have asked for a better experience. Christina Van Kempen and team took care of all the little details to make our stay and our ceremony absolutely perfect. They arranged weather contingency plans, helped us organize our day and ensured no aspect was overlooked. All the staff were extremely helpful in assisting us for the 2 days we spent at Sherwood. In addition to the perfect location, the food was AMAZING! We will definitely be going back to Sherwood Inn for future events.

Cozy atmosphere and very friendly, accommodating personnel. The food was outstanding. We attended the Inn just after Christmas but unfortunately couldn't get a spa appointment, they had been totally booked up since September but we would still return.

Absolutely fantastic place to get away and experience a true Canadian hospitality.
Kid friendly, private & beautiful sandy beach, relaxing fishing deck. Highly recommend it and can’t wait to go back.

Wonderful place in Muskoka. As a birthday getaway we stayed for one night and had an excellent time. Great place by the lake, perfect to see fall colors. Very friendly staff.

It was a great spot with small cabins around the property, beautiful lake setting, great place for weddings.

In good shape - I hadn't been here in three decades and it still has cottage-y charm while being well maintained. Food is good too.

Stayed at the Sherwood Inn for a weekend wedding and had a wonderful stay! We stayed in one of the Premium Maple Forest rooms, overlooking the forest. We had a massive king bed, spacious room with fireplace and balcony. Gave 4/5 stars as the room layout could be better for the price you are paying to stay (TV across from bed instead of being on a wall you can only see if sitting in a single arm chair), and I would prefer a much larger shower instead of the jacuzzi tub.
Highly recommend you drive the 10 min into Bala and visit Don’s Bakery (pick up their legendary scones), see the Bala falls and visit the farmers market.

The staff are so accommodating I've stayed here twice now and highly recommend it. My teacup yorkies had a blast getting extra love. Close to port Carling and bala. Perfect getaway and reasonably priced

My husband and I were very impressed about the place looked exactly like the brochure. Front desk was so welcoming to us. They helped us carry our bags to our room then we asked for fridge, this young boy brought it up for us. He was very polite. When they fridge didn't work the front desk called up and ask if we wanted to switch room and my husband asked me and I said yes. They upgraded us to the most beautiful room ever. A young boy took me on a golf cart and loaded up the luggage to take it to the new room. I thought that was very polite and kind of him. The restaurant was very welcoming and the waitress was absolutely amazing and she made really good lady Shirley Temple drinks. My husband and I stay in the Maplewood definitelyy come back in time. We highly recommend

Amazing place for any event! Had a lovely weekend with great food, service, and an outstanding atmosphere!

I got married at the Sherwood Inn, and it was really lovely. We had a little over 100 people and although I thought the space looked a little small it turns out it was perfect. It was cozy and welcoming, the staff was top notch, everyone of my guests was treated like royalty and all the workers were polite, kind and informative. They made us feel welcomed and prepared for out big event!
On the day of the wedding I shared with Christina that I did not want to be bothered or asked about details and I trusted that she would make the correct choices and keep things going smoothly. I was not disappointed, Christina was always ready to step in to assist us in anyway we needed. We felt this way about all the staff. They had excellent comminucation with each other as my guests.
The food was delicious, I still have people to this day telling me how great the food was, some even shared that it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding.
They take so much care and pride in their work, I will not hesitate to use the Sherwood Inn again for any event I plan in future!

I don't have many positive things to say about the Sherwood Inn. The service is poor and they don't seem too interested in making your day here "special". You're more so just a number to this place. Also, good luck getting an appointment to even see the place. They don't seem very interested in obtaining business. Wouldn't recommend. Its overrated and over priced for what it is. Also the interior needs some serious upgrading!

Let me start off by saying the staff are lovely and try their best. But the rooms leave much to be desired. Our radiator wasn't working properly, so they had to turn it off completely to avoid a tropical room situation. It was -18 degrees outside and we stayed in a room with no heat. The soap dispenser had been tipped off the wall and there was no soap. We could hear our neighbors arguing through the walls most of the night. We were offered a free breakfast for the inconveniences. It was okay. Our room needed some serious maintenance. With that being said, there's lots of great trails, and we saw bikes and skis to borrow.

Always love coming here, it's such a magical place. Scenery is beautiful, food is amazing and service is impeccable!
