Had delivery through Uber Eats, but it doesn't let you review the food, just the poor delivery guy.
A small portion, cost $52 and the tempura was COLD AS ICE!
What a ripoff.

Ordered this Valentine’s Day. Pre ordered (11: 30am) for 6: 30pm, got there and waited an hour to get our food at 7: 30. They were super busy but still waiting an hour for a pre ordered meal when watching Ubers go in and out was VERY frustrating. We ordered the Omakase, the man on the phone said 30-35 peices and we only got 24. Very good quality sushi, thick pieces of high quality meat/fish (probably the best sushi in ottawa) and amazing taste but definitely small for the 150$ price tag. We were still hungry and had to make food after. The food was seriously amazing but not sure it was worth 150$ plus waiting for an hour. We were looking very forward to this meal and it was definitely a disappointment to say the least.

We ordered when service was offered in Cantley and got a confirmation our Valentine's Day supper would arrive between 5: 45 and 6: 15. Our supper arrived at 7PM and the battered shrimp were wet and soggy as the sauce had opened and was all over our shrimp which should have been crispy. While food was tasty the delivery service was a disaster

We found Shinka during the pandemic and Chef John has been hitting home runs ever since. His omakase dinners are always full of surprises and keep us come back again and again. Our dinner last night was epic, from crab to uni to lobster, truffle and foie gras.thanks as always for a meal to remember.

The best sushi in town. Best sushi I’ve ever had. I’ve ordered many times and have never been disappointed.

Second time ordering from here…both times we called ahead and was given a pick-up time. Waited almost an extra hour BOTH times, with the first time giving them the benefit of doubt. But now I’m not too sure if their service is consistent with this kind of wait time…even if you call to order ahead. I understand you’re busy but why not just give a proper estimated time or let people know and call that you’re running behind? Instead of us standing around like clowns cramped in your store.

They also don’t really take in the your requests that you make either but I guess that’s another red flag to accept?

Other than that their sushi is decent and one of the better joints in Ottawa. Idk if it’s worth the wait though.

I love this sushi place! I cannot get enough of the Inari (marinated fried tofu). Super friendly staff and I always have a positive experience.:)

We ordered 4 rolls and carpaccio. The sushi was very fresh, however the rolls kept falling apart when we tried to take them out of box (they stuck to box), and pricing was on the higher side (typically same pricing but you get less pieces here.so typically at this price you’d get 8pcs but here you get only 6). Overall tasty but on the higher end for price.

During our day trip to Ottawa from Montréal, we stumbled upon Shinka Sushi Bar and we found this hidden gem! The shop is very clean, the portion more than generous with top quality fish and the variety is insane! For sure we will make the trip from Montréal again in order to enjoy a wonderful meal! You have made our day Shinka Sushi Bar!

This is the best sushi in Ottawa. Been a customer of theirs since before the pandemic and my stance still stands. Although I mostly order out, the presentation and care they take of the food hasn’t wavered. The price is higher than most, but it’s well worth it. The sushi is fresh, flavourful & the pieces (especially the unagi) are generous.

The Tsunami roll and agadashi tofu are hands down my favourite dishes on the menu.

Would highly recommend!

Premium ingredients with deluxe selection; all imported from the best sources including Japan and New Zealand, e.g. Chutoro (medium fatty red tuna), sturgeon caviar, uni (sea urchin), Miyazaki A5 wagyu (!), foie gras, ikura (salmon roe), lobster tail and more!
Elegant recipes with only few ingredients provides complex flavor profiles while letting each ingredients shine through individually and as a whole.
We were mind blown by this factory-like sushi joint offering high-end products more enjoyable than the greatests from where we live in Montréal.
Cannot wait to see if their dinning room will re-open as the chef has an avant-garde vision for his craft. Make yourself a flavor, and see for yourself!

Nous étions abasourdis par cette shop de sushi aux allures d'une usine offrant toutefois des produits haut de gamme encore plus spectaculaires que les plus grands noms de notre ville de Montréal. Nous attendons avec impatience à savoir s'il y aura un retour de leur salle à manger pour profiter de la vision avant-gardiste du chef pour son art.

Best sushi in Ottawa! Excellent food and customer service. Beautiful presentation, lots of thought and care put into it. Favourite roll is the rainbow aburi. Would highly recommend, especially if hosting a dinner party!

Sashimi was Ok in freshness and variety, but sushi rice was too dry, IMHO, not worth the $150 omakase, but might give it a second chance by ordering their a la carte next time.

The best sushi around! I ordered two of their sushi boxes (one of which was a vegetarian assortment) for a party, and everyone loved it! Incredibly fresh, and the variety of options was appreciated by all. Will definitely be dining in/ordering again soon. I highly recommend this spot!

We ordered the Omasake platter for our anniversary. Highly recommend! The fish is of optimal quality. Very fresh and delicious. We will be ordering there again soon.

We had an error with our originally order. The restaurant reached out immediately to provide a replacement to which we were pleasantly surprised. Service is very genuine and the food is exceptional.

I’d say it’s as authentic as Japanese food gets in Ottawa!

My taste buds have been spoiled by all the yummy food in the GTA, I never found a Japanese restaurant in Ottawa that was on point until I came across Shinka…

There are two things I would like to say about Shinka Sushi Bar, they are about respect for their clients and the very high quality of the food on the menu. We live in Kanata, but whenever we feel like sushi would be a good idea, we call in and reserve a table at Shinka, no thinking involved; it became a natural choice for us. Keep up your excellent work, Shinka team!

This was the BEST sushi place in Ottawa for a couple years but the quality has dropped the last couple of times we've ordered. The price used to be justified by the quality but we can no longer say this. The sushi is simply not worth that price. Makes me sad to say this because it used to be simply amazing.

Perhaps we got unlucky, but it reallly seemed like they used something else that resembles salmon for our rolls.

Unfortunately I must change my 5 star rating to a 1 given that it seems like staff seem incapable of fulfilling orders correctly… I’ve had, on more occasions than I can count, problems with my order (missing items, missing sauces, inedible chicken, completely wrong dish, etc.) It is really too bad cause on the rare occasions that they do get the order correct, it’s amazing…but it seems like, at this point, it is impossible to count on that. The only reason why I knew my order was wrong today is because I checked it before leaving the parking lot… I was one of their biggest supporters, but now I’m done.

Delivery value is underwhelming, very disappointing. I would not recommend ordering delivery from this restaurant. Overpriced and poor presentation. Why does this restaurant have a high rating?

Sushi here is beautiful! Favourite spot in Ottawa. Always very fresh! Chefs roll and kamikaze are to die for. Worth every penny

I have never had such delicious sushi’s in my entire life. This is super expensive sushi place, it’s so expensive that it’s not something I can go and have in once a week, but for sure I would love to. Generally I like to use soya sources and wasabi with sushi, but for this sushi I wanted to feel the original taste, it feels to heavenly.

Rainbow rolls are tasty and a good size - not too big, not too small. Good amount of pickled ginger with my order too, and a nice-yet-odd variety of sauces (we got wafu salad dressing even though we only ordered sushi? Dipped a piece of sushi in it just for fun, it was pretty good). Love the monthly community delivery to Westport, as no restaurants here do delivery apart from a couple pizza places in neighbouring towns. Really nice to have sushi delivered to my door!

Ordered sushi to go via Uber eats. This place never misses the mark. Some of the best sashimi in ottawa! So fresh.

Great good! Lots of vegan options. But not much that is vegan and gluten free. Limits things for my wife. But what we got we loved so much! Definitely recommend.

Have ordered from Shinka 3 times now and every time it gets better! Wow! Honestly, the level of fish to rice ratio is incredible! Even my elderly in-laws love it as well as the younger siblings! The shashimi is out of this world too - thick perfect cuts - we love this place as the beat takeaway sushi restaurant in Ottawa and that’s saying something!

Save yourself some money if you can and pick up rather than have delivered.

I thought I found my second best sushi place (the first and only best now is Toronto’s Kitano) until today. I opened the box today and saw that was not what I ordered.

High Quality Sushi. That is the best way to explain Shinka. It is more expensive then most sushi spots but it is well worth the cost.

Community delivery option made beautiful sushi accessible to us in Almonte. Wow it was a huge step above in quality and presentation. The most fresh delicious sushi we have ever had. Will order again for sure!

Really disappointed with our latest takeout order. Although the fish was very fresh, the portions have drastically reduced in size, the rolls are ridiculously thin (especially the Dragon’s Eye). We also ordered the tempura calamari, which was inedibly salty. One of the rolls wasn’t rolled properly and completely came apart. Also, for a $150 order, we only received a minuscule container of ginger!

We used to be fans, but we are questioning whether we will order again.

Hands down BEST sushi in Ottawa. John is the master of sushi. I've been working with him for the past year and I leave him to be creative with his work. Exceptional sushi quality and customer service. Once you try his sushi, there's no going back. Happy to be partnering with him with my event planning business. He's literally our Runaway Picnic sushi go-to. And our clients love Shinka too!

We are impressed with the quality of fish delivered by Shinka Sushi, as well as the chef’s creativity in creating such beautiful food. We have been ordering take outs from Shinka Sushi very often and the quality has been consistent. We always order when we have out of town guests both to show off our town’s sushi restaurant and to share the joy with family and friends. We have also given Shinka resurarnars gift cards to friends during the pandemic so they can try the amazing sushi! The selection of fish is amazing and the sushi is very similar to what we had in Japan in terms of style and quality. The portions are generous at a very good price! Please continue making us proud:)

I'm usually more of a sashimi and white rice type of person but Shinka made me fall in love with maki as their creations are unique, light and flavourful!
They also have the best lightly battered octopus I've ever had.
Well.try everything, I'm sure it's all worth it.
The price perfectly reflect the quality, best in the region.

I got a take out and the sushi inside the box the sushi was a mess. Also our soup has spilled in the bad and made a mess. It clearly shows that the bag was dropped in the shop. I would have expected them to remake the food instead of giving it like that.

Delicious! & SO happy the packaging (which is beautiful) is all paper/ compostable (NOT STYROFOAM! Yaay!)

Best Sushi spot in Ottawa by a long shot. I stick to there vegan options but they outshine anything else I've ever tried. I really love their mushroom rolls and Inari. The portions are perfect and they do not cut any corners, even on simple avo Maki.

I got Shinka delivered to Kemptville (they do a different area every day, some areas have two days a month). I was so impressed! It was well packaged, and all the packaging was recyclable or compostable. The presentation was great. The food was delicious. Highly recommend the poke bowl that has both salmon and tuna.

Also $10 for delivery outside the city of Ottawa is amazing. I’ve paid almost as much within the city for restaurants that are less than 10-15 km away.

I’ll definitely be ordering again.

Love getting take out or eating in at this place (pre-covid times). The owner is passionate about his food and the service he provides and it shows. The staff is great and provide excellent service! This is hands down my go to sushi place.

Top destination for excellent sushi in Ottawa. A friend referred Shinka for a real good sushi and ever since I tried it never gone back to any other places for sushi! Fresh and tasty beyond the limits. I got addicted to sushi after trying Shinka. John the owner is very dedicated to his profession. I admire this place and always consider it for sushi nights with friends. Sushi ALWAYS look breathtaking when the package is opened. A must try!

Ordered a large lunch order several days ahead of time. When it came time to pick up, we were asked to wait another 30 mins as they had not finished it yet. Two of the orders were for the Chicken Katsu combo. The chicken was incredibly tough and over cooked, and after examining the inside, it looked like the chicken was frozen and then thawed in the microwave, as the edge of the chicken was brown and hard. Extremely disappointed considering the $24.50 price tag.

I have had many sushi places in Ottawa and I definitely had high hopes for this place based on the reviews online and from friends.

I decided to give it a try for my partner’s birthday. The calamari and mix tempura were delicious! Although, I am not sure if the flavours were lacking for the sushi due to it being takeout… but I had spent about $250 and we did not enjoy it at all. My partner and I really didn’t like it that much that we had delivered it to my family, who were also not impressed by it.

I will give it another try once indoor dining returns at this restaurant.

I gave it an extra star because the service was great.

I visited this location for the first time during the pandemic. They are only doing take out now but the food is still amazing. Easily the best dynamite roll I have ever had. The Bento box is also extremely filling! Will come again.

Best sushi I've had in Ottawa so far. Great quality, fresh fish with nice deep flavours. Definitely also the priciest Sushi I've ever had, but I think this is worth it for what you get. Great customer service as well.

Ordered via the community delivery. Great idea! Got the 32pc premium set, a piece of Wagyu nigiri, and spicy salmon aburi poke bowl. Absolutely worth the price, the fish was delicious and the preparation was excellent.

Ordered salmon poke bowl and was disappointed with toppings and flavour, very simple and plain also hardly any spicy mayo and small for price. I've definitely had better. They do have really good miso soup though!

There are only two top sushi places in Ottawa and Shinka is one of them.
Assortments are fresh and delicious.
Whether I order a takeout or dine in I am never disappointed with the food. The service is okay and the space is small but nice.

The washroom is clean.

The place is not accessible for persons of disability in a wheelchair or baby strollers.

Absolutely delicious and, hands down, the best Sushi in the city!
To the average person sushi may simply look like a little ball of rice with a slice of raw fish on top, but there is so much more that goes into the art of sushi-making. It must have the right colour, flavour, and texture and John and his team achieved just that! I highly recommend!

Sashimi pieces were as fresh as you can get in Ottawa and the pieces were of a decent size. The rolls and nigiri were tasty as well expect maybe the chef’s rolls which was a bit weird (it was wrapped in rice paper).

Not sure why we were given a massive slab of wasabi (bottom right of the pic). It tasted more like tube packaged than the freshly grated ones you get at high quality sushi restaurants.

Overall on the expensive side ($150 pre tax) which is expected for good quality fish in the city but compared to other options in this price range, this wouldn’t be my number 1 choice.

Got this sushi box delivered for an at home birthday dinner. They offer such a good variety for us vegetarian sushi lovers. Many of their rolls come with personal unique sauces. I can’t wait to go dine in person when the restrictions allow it. Very clean, classy and appetizing presentation.

Every bite was amazing. The fish exploded with flavour and the components were all well composed and balanced. The best sushi I've had in Ottawa so far. A little on the pricey side but once you taste, you know why.

Always so yummy and amazing quality! Definitely the best place I've tried so far to get poke bowls and sushi. I always get the Hawaiian poke bowl and it's always filled with so much tuna that I end up finishing the rice and have extra tuna left (whereas everywhere else hardly gives any fish).

This is a difficult review to write. Over the years I have traveled to many countries including Japan, and I have spent weeks chasing after authentic Japanese foods in Tokyo. I do know what high end Japanese food is like. However the vibe I got from this restaurant's reviews did not match my experience tonight.

At the same time I fully understand we are not living beside the ocean so the freshness of sushi/Sashimi ingredients are different.

For the price of $150 (plus tax and tips), I expect more for a 37 pieces Chef's Box. It does not justify the price in either quality or quantity ‍️. Then again I understand this is a takeout order in the middle of a Pandemic. We are just disappointed after having high expectations from all great reviews.
