One of my favourite Chinese restaurants in the heart of China town. Have a good view of the city.

We just discovered Sky Dragon and really love it. Food, service and atmosphere are excellent. I've lived in Toronto for over 30 years, frequent Chinatown at least twice a month, and can't believe we've only now discovered this gem. Probably because they are on the 3rd floor in the mall.
Dim sum is outstanding, plus you can order from the regular menu. My sister and I enjoyed their weekend lunch special lobster on noodles. I think it was $25. The food is good. No need to ask prices. Lol

They host Queens of Dimsum brunch which is what makes them special. Food was also not bad. Without Queens of Dimsum this place would be just okay and not on my personal radar.

Sky Dragon has been a pillar of the downtown Toronto Chinatown scene for over 30 years. It's like stepping back in time going here, the decor has a classic Hong Kong restaurant feel that I find very special especially in contrast to the "sleek modern" look most restaurants go for today.

Many Chinese Canadian immigrants at one point or another have passed through Sky Dragon, often a taste of home during a very tumultuous first few weeks in a new world.

I know some people reading this think this is all irrelevant and just want to know if the food is good (I thought it was, though this relies heavily on your ability to know what to order). I however do think this is extremely relevant to how I "review" a restaurant. Food to me is a form of communication, it can be an expression of culture. It is for this reason that Sky Dragon's place in GTA Chinese Canadian history is deeply interlinked to my experience eating there as a whole. As such, it is an easy 5/5 for me, although I'd like to reiterate that the food is very yummy too!

Great food, amazing price, authentic dim sum and it is one of the few left that still has dim sum carts!
06 December 2022 4:27
It is definitely a place I would go back to. I came here with my husband because we are on vacation and tried some Dim Sum, they were all delicious!

Wife went here with her friends. Her friend forgot her wallet so my wife while paying her own bill tipped for both of them and then paid for her friends bill separately without Tipping bc she already did. The lady at the restaurant continued to come to the table and shame my wife's friend for not tipping even though my wife did. This is unacceptable behavior. I understand what Tipping means to servers but it is not a requirement. This woman was out of line.

Every time I go here, I'm hit with a fresh wave of nostalgia. The food was fresh and delicious. My friend and I got a bunch of dishes to share and way overestimated how big the portions are.

Definitely coming back!

Been going to this place years and the food is great at a good price. This is real Chinese food and dim sum. Park fairly inexpensively a few blocks away at the Chinatown Center.

The restaurant was located at the top floor of the Dragon City Mall so it was quite difficult to notice if you just passed by. Decent food, a bit insipid - we had them with soy sauce but still. Nice service, very clean washroom. The price was reasonable. The view was also pretty nice since it was on the rooftop.

Best view in chinatown, decent rice roll, skip yhe chicken feet, pearl dragon has the best chicken feet.

So IF you WANT the most FABULOUS massage, you have to go here. All the guys are great BUT ton y is my personal favorite. He always provides the right amount of pressure without you even having to ask. He's polite and doesn't talk all the way through. He's just an all around great / sweet guy and I always let him know he's appreciated through my words and my TIP! To me, he's worth every penny!
10 September 2022 22:06
Delicious food, friendly service, reasonable price. We ordered lots of different items. Everything tasted very good. Will definitely go back.
28 August 2022 3:20
Excellent place on Spadina to eat Dim sum. The view outside and inside is nice. Can be pricy, their desserts are limited and really didn't care for them. The food is authentic and really good!

Dim sum food was pretty good except I felt we got overcharged. My arithmetic estimate and the waitress who actually wrote up the bill had very large disparities in what the final bill was.

I had tallied up the approximate cost ahead of time but I felt like they overcharged us by $20. The waitress scribbled the bill in undecipherable chicken scratch writing that is impossible to read with the only thing I could actually understand being the final cost at the bottom of the bill. This seemed deliberate. I wish I took a picture of the bill to post here now.

If your entire group is asian, then you should have no problems and you should absolutely dine here but the old Chinese grannies that wheel the dim sum carts out will dismiss you with a look of disdain or disapproval if your girlfriend happens to be black as was my situation.

I felt they pretended not to hear us when I wanted to ask a question. We didn't feel very welcome and the service felt poor for us specifically even though they seem to treat all their other all-asian customer groups (mostly older asian couples and a few all asian families) with laughter and conversation. This didn't feel like a place where we were their ideal customer.

I'm sure this restaurant serves authentic dim sum because something similar happened at a really authentic Indian restaurant in Brampton called Tandoori Flame (it's not the casual strip mall butter chicken roti take out but the kind of authentic Indian food restaurant that only Indians know about).

They clearly have more than enough customers to sustain their business for the next century so they won't need our business. We do not plan to return.

If you've been their loyal customer for 30 years regardless of your ethnicity or if you are asian and speak a very fluent Hong Kong dialect of Cantonese (none of that CBC Cantonese that will make their staff roll their eyes and start speaking to you in English), by all means eat at Sky Dragon. If not, then save yourself from disappointment.

There are several other dim sum restaurants within 100 meters of Sky Dragon that is staffed by both younger English and Chinese speaking asian and caucasian serving staff that treat each and every customer like gold with equally good food that I've tried where the bill is clearly stated and correctly calculated.

The food (dim sum) is delicious, prices are reasonable. I am taking away 1 star because the background noise of the A/C unit located in the ceiling is very disturbing, like a jet engine continuously vibrates. I couldn't wait to finish the food and get out. The place also looks run down but I don't care when the food is that good.
13 August 2022 12:23
Great chinese food, the private dining room is good for small celebrations. Friendly staff very helpful.
01 July 2022 10:07
I tried dimsum for brunch.

Food flavor is just acceptable. Most of the dimsum tastes so subtle. Need more flavor.

The service is the worst. You can't order from menu. Whatever available on the carts pushing around is what you get. If your table is abit far, the carts will never reach you. You end up eating what you don't want to. Asked them to refill tea, the pot came back empty. There is no dimsum sauce (Soya sauce, vinegar, hot sauce) available. After asking, the soya sauce came but not other things and not even small bowl to put the sauce.

The place isn't hygiene enough. Washroom doesn't have paper. No sanitizer around. Bill can't be split.

Never go there again and not recommend to even try. Very disappointing!
11 June 2022 8:23
Nice place good food and great view of can tower but long wait for wait for elevator to get up and they use cheap disposable cups and plates pretty disappointing and takes away from the fine dining
22 May 2022 21:23
Ordered Dim Sum from Sky Dragon which included two orders of Deep-Fried Taro and Pork Dumpling but instead received Golden Custard Buns (I don't like) despite the SkipTheDishes order receipt clearly indicating:
x2 Deep-Fried Taro and Pork Dumpling 蜂巢炸芋角
18 April 2022 20:06
Covid made the place not the same anymore, no dim sum carts, very grim feeling, plates, cups and chopsticks are all disposable now and portions are not filled with adequate filling anymore (ex- red bean sesame balls). It was such a lively place pre-covid but now it's just not the same anymore
28 March 2022 18:53
The important things such as taste and Dim Sum options are great. Also on the top floor so if you get a window seat you can have a nice view of Toronto. Servers can be friendly and make some great recommendations sometimes. Only cons would be the slower service when busy (understandable), dated decor and water spots where repairs were made due to the old building. IMO these types of cons are how you know the food will be good.
26 March 2022 3:57
It was GREAT! YES, I AM SCREAMING BECAUSE THE FOOD WAS (IS) FANTASTIC.

It was my first time trying dumplings. It was the. Sigh! Now I'm craving turnip cake too.
11 January 2022 0:02
Good downtown place to grab a quick bite. Fresh steamed dumplings and rice cakes. Siu Mai is great
02 December 2021 20:31
Our family go to spot for dim sum and has been for many years. It was busy with people however the service was quick. The interior is super outdated but brings a nostalgic feel iykyk!
12 November 2021 17:03
Suppose to get special price on dim sum at weekdays between 9 to 4 as advertised but end up paying normal price not worth coming all the way from Etobicoke.
01 November 2021 4:15
Over priced late lunch / early dinner. Wasn’t as good as it used to be. Service wasn’t great - hardly checked on us and pretty much demanded a tip at the end after charging us 75 bucks for about 10 small dim sum dishes. Very disappointing…
11 October 2021 16:37
Easy underground parking. Elevator to the restaurant. Very friendly and attentive staff. Outdoor eating area. Ordered by menu, no carts during this stage of re-opening. Shrimp & chive patties were delicious. Very pleasant visit and I will go again when back in Toronto.
24 December 2020 21:32
They have been here for 20+year. The food quality is great for the price. Staffed are very friendly too. Chive & shrimp pie and siu mai are must try, radish cake is full of toppings. They offer 10% off walk-in takeouts now.
30 October 2020 20:04
A staple of Chinatown, been coming here with my grandma for as long as I can remember. Now they have disposable plates/cups/cutlery for COVID which makes me feel like it is actually one of the more hygienic restaurants in Chinatown right now. Food is always great and relatively cheap. They seem to be putting in even more effort now to step up the food quality for dine-in and delivery apps.
23 April 2020 23:34
We had an extraordinary in this restaurant. We enjoyed the excellent environment and the food. The waiters are super personal. I’m content we eventually decided to visit this place.
22 April 2020 23:56
Took a day trip to Toronto (early Oct. 2019) and my hubby and friends were craving Chinese food. We were walking by and decided to take a chance! It was awesome! Everything we ordered was delicious, authentic Chinese food! The service was great, although we were the only ones there, we came a couple of hours after lunch and a couple of hours before dinner.no wonder it was empty. I think they usually close during that time but they took us anyway! I would definitely recommend this place and would come back if ever we visit again!
18 April 2020 20:00
Would definitely recommend visiting this place. Awesome vibes, delightful food, excellent service. Highly recommended.
28 March 2020 17:45
I love going really early in the mornings on weekends. Fresh foods, well trained staff. Good value for the money. Highly recommended.
24 March 2020 8:08
Now that Rol San is closing, we've bee coming here a lot more. Sometimes the food is cold for the dim sum carts but expected as they are wheeled around.
20 March 2020 6:23
Really good place to go to if you want a proper Chinese dim sum restaurant experience as they still have dim sum carts being pushed around and their dim sum is really good if you’re into less oil/salt formula since they cater to a lot of elderlies there, the prices are also really good.
08 March 2020 6:33
Dinner is less than par for quality and quantity. Small dishes and not fresh. Not what I was expecting. Rule of thumb, if it is not busy then leave and go somewhere else. The photos on the menu do not resemble what you actually get. I found a small metal fragment from a washing steel wool and all I got from the waiter is sorry and left.
29 February 2020 6:15
The quality of the dim sum is next level it is so delicious and the price is awesome only $36 for two people. Most places charge $70 for two people. The tables are clean same with the plates, no complaints!
17 February 2020 19:25
This place is a throw back to OG of Chinese dimsum joints. There is still old ladies pushing carts around, which I can't find anywhere nowadays. BUT the offset is poor quality dimsum.
18 December 2019 12:35
Dim sum by the cart on a Sunday. Carts came around frequently with various options. We ended up supplementing with some menu items that did not come around on the carts. Rice roll with shrimp and fried squid. Both good but rolls could have used more sauce and the portion of squid was smaller than other places. Food was good, fast, and servers were friendly/helpful enough. Reasonable prices ($46+ for two of us leaving very full). The washrooms were very modern and clean (which was a pleasant surprise). The treat comes at the end as there are several “claw” machines that lured us in to try our hand at winning a stuffed animal (bring your loonies and toonies). We were not successful but we saw someone else win so it is possible!
03 December 2019 9:03
Great place for dimsum special if you can get in and order before 1130am. I arrived at 930am just before the crazy rush and was able to get a table for 8 within 45 minutes.
02 December 2019 0:18
I have been to Sky Dragon many times. It is one of the few dim sum places that still has the tradition of ladies pushing carts full of steaming hot dim sum.

The food quality is decent, although today's beef cheong fun was not the best, too sticky. Prices are reasonable.
25 October 2019 18:13
Came here at lunch. Below average food. Especially when they are charging 6$ a plate. Avoid this place at all costs. Dumplings are gross and the beef balls even worse.
Staff walk around in carts handing out dimsum. I questions the freshness.
Either way, rol san is down the street. Go there. Not here.
20 October 2019 18:56
We celebrated our nephews 100 days here. 60 seats. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. The set menu was delicious and the service was wonderful. Only suggestions to update the carpets, patio and decor.
20 October 2019 4:50
You know a Chinese restaurant is good when it's filled with lots of old Chinese people xD We arrived right before 11: 30 am on a Saturday and got seated right away (group of 3). Everything ordered before 11: 30 am is happy hour pricing ($3 CAD for every dish) so we ordered 5 dishes before time ran out. After happy hour pricing was still very cheap (we're from San Francisco though, so maybe just by comparison). We ended up spending about $50 CAD for the 3 of us. The dim sum comes in carts with some of the items on the carts rotating, but if you want anything in particular, you can also ask the waiters to special order something. Favorites: siu mai (the meat was so juicy!), fried taro nests (taro with meat inside), sticky rice (is that duck inside?). Only complaint is that the sesame balls and fried taro were rather cold.
08 October 2019 16:46
Went for lunch, when it was quite empty. We enjoyed the service and the food, which tasted fresh. We were also pleasantly surprised by the view! If you're having trouble finding this place, find the elevator and go to the top floor.
27 August 2019 0:21
Sky Dragon I have been there twice the quality is quite good it's not exceptional the prices are very good the atmosphere is reasonable the washrooms are extremely clean I would say the quality of the food is not excellent but it's very good some places are excellent this is not one of them but I've never had any problems but it's just a comment that the quality of the food maybe the supplier.maybe the prep time is not excellent but it is good.so overall I would recommend it but it's at the very top of a building its about 4 flights and if you're taking the stairs finding the last flight of stairs to the top is quite a challenge so I recommend the elevator if you Press letter t for top to get to the elevator on the top floor and I even believe they do a reimbursement parking if you park here.
16 August 2019 22:07
Please double check your bill in this restaurant! They calculate without using a calculator and the ending bill was off by around $6. When we asked them to recalculate, they told us the initial calculation was correct when in fact it was off by $6. We had to get them to explain the cost of each item to us so we could point out how off they were. Absolutely ridiculous!
