Smart Stop is extremely aggressive in hiking the monthly rent. Their model is to lure customers in with an attractive rate, then hike it immediately, and often. They pushed our monthly rate way above the rate advertised on their website for our size unit (20x10). Our first month was $190, second month jumped to $345. Increases over the next two years took it to $388, then $433. The rent was scheduled to increase even faster but local management kindly agreed to cancel or delay a few increases when I complained. The rent was scheduled to go up to $511 on May 1, but we ended our contract in early April. So to re-cap, in just 2.5 years, the rent increased from $189 to $511, a 170% increase from start to end. Compare the $511 to their current "in-store" rate of $447, and "web rate" of $330. (All rental rates quoted here are inclusive of HST).

Smart Stop liked to spin their rent increases as the flip side of offering the flexibility of month-to-month contracts. As a customer who planned to store household contents there for a few YEARS, I would have happily forgone the monthly term and locked in 6 months or a year at a time in exchange for lower, fixed and predictable rent.

Their lease is the most one-sided contract I've ever seen: e.g. They can increase the rent by any amount, as often as they want, with 30 days' notice; they can cancel the lease unilaterally on 10 days' notice - pity the poor customer who has a houseful of contents stored there and lives 2000 kms away if they do that!

To be fair, on the plus side, the Smart Stop facility we rented from was clean, well managed, and the store manager was superb in her responsiveness and professionalism - I felt sorry for her that she had to constantly apologize for the draconian pricing practices of her head office.

Very cheap and kind! I'm international student so don't have my home in Canada. I was finding storage to keep my stuffs and this place is perfect for me! Thank you

I had a great experience. All my questions and needs were taken care of fully. I also found it very easy to communicate with the attendant who was the assistant manager. I was also assisted by the manage and she was also very helpful as well. Top notch service all around.

I've rented storage space at SmartStop Oakville (Cornwall Road) for more than 5 years and I have only good things to say about this location. It's always very clean and well maintained. Special mention goes to Debbie whose professionalism and happy demeanor makes it a very welcoming environment. She is extremely approachable and responsive and takes great pride in making this facility the best that it can be.

I walked in to get some moving supplies because my landlord wanted me out as a family member was going to move in and Is staff or so polite and even walked me through the best way from the loading Bay to my unit and back and a back up way if someone is already in the 1st elevator
They then Walked me through all the doors and Downs and legal jargon i was not planning on getting a uint this fast but after meeting the awesome stuff i had to take them up on the great deal they had for me. Tobad they dont pack and pick up stuff theat be the Icing on the cake

Great staff! They went above and beyond in helping. Friendly, sincerely service. Clean warehouse. Indoor truck bay was appreciated! Security measures well thought out. All in all I highly recommend this company.

We love SmartStop Self Storage in Oakville (on Cornwall)! We have two storage lockers, here. This is an excellent facility. We are very impressed with 1) the exceptional level of customer service we have received (especially Debbie V!) ; 2) the cleanliness and accessibility of the facility and 3) the flexibility of the lease agreement. Debbie was great and welcoming, explained all the processes, and I left feeling confident I made the right choice.

Reserving the locker online was easy, and I received a courtesy phone call to confirm the details of my reservation the same day. When we went to sign the paperwork and take possession of our locker Debbie was really helpful and it was a quick process!

I called a lot of storage places and it was the cheapest that I could find the people was very friendly and helped me out a lot
