I rented my first unit here in 2019, and paid $66/month. Since then, they’ve been steadily increasing the rent at an arbitrary rate every 6 months, for example one increase might be $5 and another might be $20. Fast-forward to today, and I just got an an increase that totals my monthly rent to $156. When I politely asked for an itemized receipt over the phone so that I could see exactly where my money is going since I rent a tiny unit that you need a ladder to get to, the owner Melissa got extremely aggressive on the phone and screamed at me that I had no right to ask for these things.

The owner will bully and berate you if you ask questions. She’s obviously bitter since she’s in her 50s and works at a business that needs less than a high school education to operate. I’ve seen her in person and it’s obvious that she sits at her desk all day doing nothing but yelling at customers over the phone. PLEASE save yourself the headache and stress and rent from a more reputable business where you won’t be bullied for asking questions or requiring more information. I was literally hung up on three times when I tried to ask questions about where my money is going and told to move my stuff out by the end of the month.

The owner will likely reply to my review and insist that I am wrong, but please read the other reviews speaking specifically on the rent increases and Melissa’s abhorrent behaviour and I promise you that anywhere else is better.

Just started renting my space at SmartStop on Dupont and so far so good. The space is good for the price, the location is good, I do wish the closing hours were later but overall so far so good. I have to also shoutout the customer service from SmartStop, the lady over the phone was good and patient but shoutout to the onsite coordinator Melisa for her amazing customer service and her empathy and great vibes.

This place rips you off any chance they can. At first they advertised prices of units that hid the fact that they were up multiple steps and hard for accessibility needs (as someone who was 8 months pregnant, this was a very awful experience). Next thing is that they raise the rent insane amounts. When we started renting in Dec 2020, it was $83 a month. It’s now $157 less than 2 years later. Absolutely atrocious - double the price. Finally, their hours are not true - they say they are open until 10pm but we just tried to go at 9: 30pm and it was locked for the night. Save yourself the headache and run in the opposite direction. I wish we had.

This is a convenient and clean storage but they increase the rent every few months. When we finally decided to switch to a cheaper storage, I called them to cancel my lease and was told to move out by 6pm at the end of the month. I did that, but they still charged me the following month. I called the office and Melissa was defensive and told me I hadn't let them know, which of course I did, and never even apologized for mistakenly charging my card. Very weird attitude for a mistake on their end.

If you're looking for affordable storage options and service with a smile then this is the place for you. The storage themselves look very clean and well kept, security looks good and customer service is excellent (Melissa, thank-you for all your help)!

Edit: A year later the price has increased to $100 a month. Looking for a more affordable unit at a different company as I don't feel as though this will be sustainable much longer.

I don't really understand all of the 5 star reviews. I got my storage unit in May of 2020. Back then, I paid $66/month for a unit. It's just over one year later and I now pay $88/month for the same unit. No email or call to inform me of the increase. Sure, the facility is clean and looks great, but I don't understand the need to increase the price by this much in just a year. How much will I pay a year from now? Looks like it's time to find somewhere else.

My experience at Smart Stop DuPont has been a wonderful positive experience thus far. All the staff are extremely helpful, especially Ashir, who helped me acquire a smaller unit to downsize to in June 2022. He was kind, professional and courteous and helped me secure a great new unit at an awesome price. Thank you Ashir!

Ashir helped a friend and I move lockers and usually this process is teeth pulling, but he made sure we were more then taking care of. Massive thank you!

We booked a storage unit at 1120 Dupont st. Ashir was incredibly helpful and nice in showing us around, explaining all the rules and helping with the lock.

Very well organized facility! Melisa was incredibly helpful and friendly. Units are in top quality condition, easy access to building and units.

The place is clean and fairly accessible but they will increase your monthly payment on a whim and use 'current market conditions' as the excuse.
At least they gave me a 30 day notice.

Had a unit here for a couple years now and I am quite happy with the service. It's easy to get in and out and parking is usually available. Melissa is super kind and helpful. She always has a smile on her face and is ready to go above and beyond for her customers. She seems to always have time for me even on a busy day and I look out for her when I come to the office. 5 stars:)

Very nice place to store your things. I really like the covered garage to unload in. Ashir and Melissa were both great, very helpful and friendly.

The facility is clean (pristinely so) well lit and the lockers are well built and very clean inside as well. However what makes SmartStop Storage (Dupont Street in Toronto) amazing are the STAFF who care about their customers.

Melisa (who I think is also a District Trainer) is so efficient yet always makes the time to have a friendly conversation is also an amazing problem solver.

I just rented my 2nd locker (feb 2022) and when I went home to get some things, I forgot to put my lock on the locker and when I came back I found a customer lock on it. Melisa came right up and took the lock off for me. (Another new customer came in and confused our lockers and moved in to mine in error).

As you can see from the picture, no time was lost in helping me entre my locker and the other customer was called and he came to move his items into his locker. Highly recommend SmartStop Self Storage - the facility is very safe, lots of cameras and the staff do many tours of the facility each day.

Also - I had an issue with a fellow customer who was very intimidating, and Joe, who oversees all the facilities in Canada acted swiftly and fairly and made sure that we all got along well in the sandbox - so to speak.
You feel safe there and your "stuff" has found a good, safe home too! Highly recommend SmartStop Self Storage!

Needed a large unit in a rush, were able to find two that equaled the same size. The call centre person was super friendly, really helpful and understood our needs. Melisa at the location when we arrived to inspect was fantastic. On moving day our moving company's truck was too big and the staff person (cannot recall name) provided an alternative to help with unloading. Great location, climate controlled, feels very secure.

Excellent facility with top notch customer service. Very clean and brightly-lit fully modern building with large elevators. Staff are very knowledgeable and will help you select what is best for you. Promotional offers available for first time renters. They also sell a selection of moving supplies and suitable locks for the units. I would like to specifically thank Ashir who was extremely helpful in assisting me with my storage needs. If you need a storage unit this place comes highly recommended!

My only wish would be for better way-finding aisle signage within the locker area, it would be great to be able to more easily locate your unit.

Very friendly staff and efficient renting process. The facility is new and clean. The loading/unloading area is also quite spacious and covered.

I rented was smart stop before and Melisa was managing that store, I was so happy to see when I came to the Dupont location that Melisa is now managing this store. She is very friendly and easy to get along with and always has given me the best solutions for my storage needs.
The Dupont Store is beautiful! I love that they have a drive-in garage so that if it’s raining or snowing you’re covered from the weather elements and your items aren’t getting wet. I found it to be very bright and clean. Melisa even offers water to her customers, she has them out on the desk for you to help yourself to.
I am so happy I decided to go with smart stop again and that I got lucky and found Melisa again.
I highly recommend anyone looking for storage to go to Dupont it’s a get building!
