So famous is SO DELICIOUS. The chicken is crispy and tender, the sauces are divine, the spring rolls delectable and the hot and sour soup is out of this world!
Amazing first experience! We got delivery and everything was packed so well and clearly labelled. Very quick delivery too! The food is delicious; comfort food that is well made and not heavy or overly greasy. Tons of vegetarian (and even vegan!) options. Would def recommend!
Perfect chinese takeout food - i go there all the time and it never disappoints. Highly recommend their hunan fire meal! If you walk in in person you also get a fortune cookie:)
Literally some of the worst food I’ve ever had. All tasted like metal and butane meaning the chef didn’t season the wok properly. Eating heavy metals is a health risk.
Avoid this place until this review is addressed unless you want to eat toxic chemicals.
Hands down top 5 places I've been to in Toronto. Highly recommend the general TSO. However, everything in the menu is amazing. Really good staff too. Not a long wait time and more importantly for some freaking weird reason, the food feels like home.
WOW! Such a conflicting restaurant. The Shanghai Street Noodles are Excellent, great flavors and a perfect size dish for one or sharing. Personally I would chop the Pork Belly into peices instead of serving it as whole bacon style strips but it tastes amazing regardless. However, the O. G. T (Original General Tso) chicken is very disappointing! The pictures posted by others show just how little chicken there is and how small this portion is. Good tasting but NOT worth the $18. Too small for sharing and majority rice wth less then 10 strips of GTC! This is definitely a Quality over Quantity spot.
To put it simply, the food and take-out service was exceptional. I ordered the Shrimp Wonton Soup, OGT Chicken, Szechuan Green Beans, Street Vendor Style Shanghai Noodles with Shrimp & Flank Steak.everything was delicious and very well received and thoroughly enjoyed by my family.
Do not be mislead by this place's high star reviews. It was probably written by the owner's friends and family.
First off, food selection was very limited. It's not your typical Chinese take out place that serves a bunch of things. In-store menu sign was hard to understand and can be misleading - as in, there are a lot of add-ons which adds to the cost without you realizing it. (In my case, I ordered the 50/50 meal which has a base price of $13. Then you add meats + rice and the meal comes to about $16.given the *very* small portion.big yikes! I'm probably paying for their internal decor, excessive packaging, and grand-opening renovations lol).
The food itself was mediocre at best. My 50/50 was super salty. My friend's OGT was nothing special - but beware of small portion size. The best thing I received was probably their spring rolls. You can probably have a dine-in experience with better food quality and in quantity at some restaurant in China town only a few blocks away.
One thing that irks me is their excessive packaging. Lots of stickers, lots of paper bags for little things, so they're not that environmentally conscious I guess.
One of the best (if not the best) takeout places in Downtown! Highly recommend trying their General Tso Chicken! Fresh, made to order takeout which you can literally see being made in front of you in the kitchen. Great portion sizes for the price as well! Must try in Toronto!
I don't write reviews (this is my first), but I wanted to share that this was the best Chinese food I've ever had, hands down.
High quality, fresh and authentic. I walked in and picked up a 50/50 Box with Chow Mein and General Tso Chicken - great flavours and the perfect portion. The restaurant and kitchen were extremely clean as well. Very friendly customer service, which goes a long way.
Forget the old classic Spadina Chinese restaurants - SO FAMOUS beats them all.
We tried So Famous for the first time a couple of nights ago. The food was so delicious and the portions were generous! It's great that you can choose any protein with any dish. Really delighted to have this fabulous new restaurant in the neighbourhood!
I’ve been meaning to write a review… tried this place a few weeks ago and was very disappointed unfortunately.
The people are friendly, so two points for that as well as the cool interior.
The food was a disappointment. I ordered the broccoli style with noodles and it tasted flavourless like PROPANE. I couldn’t eat any of it so I threw it out. Then… I went to eat the fortune cookie to at least have a little smile and it was stale/mouldy. I had to spit it out. So that was gross…
Ugh, I live nearby and really wanted to love this place.
I really like the concept of a strictly Chinese takeout restaurant. The packaging is great and the food is fantastic. The restaurant branding is pretty neat too when going in for pick-up, did not have to wait long after placing and order at the counter to receive my food which was nice. 50/50 sweet and sour meal had a good amount of chicken and rice. Also had strawberry which was a neat twist that I enjoyed.
Absolutely delicious! Ordered for a big birthday party and the meal was a huge hit. Really loved the Wok Hei Ho Fun and Tomato Meets Egg and will definitely be ordering again. Highly recommend!
Tried the hunan beef with egg fried rice. Good portion and decent price. Staff was very friendly and place looks clean. Will be visiting again to try other menus.
Smart exterior and great interior design - thought would give this place a go. Unsure if the nice decor was masking horrible food or if it was going to live up to how nice the place looked. We tried two dishes along with the fried rice and as soon as we opened the box of rice we could immediately see that it was underwhelming. Rice was over cooked, the OGT was soggy. Apple spring rolls were good in comparison to the rest of the meal - looking for more unique concept food from a place this good looking. To ruin the experience we had rancid fortune cookies. Seriously - who has had a bad fortune cookie before? We didn’t know what to expect but from first impressions of the outside we were expecting something a lot more. Unfortunately you cannot mask bad food with good looking decor
Got takeout. Food generally under seasoned. La ma lacked much szechuan pepper. Eggplant was undercooked. Maps tofu tasted like not much. Portions are very generous. Would have been great value if the food tasted good.
I just tried the food here last night for the first time and I think this might be my new favorite spot. Not only is the food delicious and noticeably fresh, but the people who run this place are genuinely really nice.
I ordered dinner for four people from So Famous and was so impressed! All of the vegetarian options were delicious. I was easy to order and all of the food was hot. Highly recommend trying it!
Love the food and service here! Food is always prepared fast and fresh. The portions are very generous, too. The flavor in each dish I’ve ordered so far is unbeatable. We’re so happy to have found this place.
My GO TO chinese take-out! This place is exceptionally good. I've been coming regularly since its opened and have tried almost half of their menu! The dishes are extremely tasty and the portions healthy. The shrimp were large and fresh, and each item off of their 50/50 menu comes with differently textured proteins (a great touch if you order tofu as your protein of choice)!
Such unique flavour profile in all their offerings. One of the best chowmain I’ve had in a while and amazing dumplings to. The portion size is pretty huge and they are reasonably priced. It literally is a hole in the wall right now so maybe not “so famous” yet, but they definitely deserve to be.
