Yuk yuks was dong a show in the back room, there is no door to block the sound. It was extremely loud, which made it difficult to talk at my table in the main dining area. My brie was not melted enough on my chicken sandwich. It was tasty, but more melting would've been nice.
An update to my review, We were invited back for a meal by Cheryl the manager for Southcote bar and grill. What a difference, Tonight we had a group go again. So glad we went again. The food came out hot and was delicious. Steak was cooked exactly how I like it. Everyone’s food was enjoyed, hot and great portions. Service was good once again. Glad we had a chance to talk to Cheryl. Thanks once again for the opportunity to come back.
First I will start with our reservations, we booked a room for 21 people and we’re given a menu to choose from. We decided to go with the $50 choice which gave the choice of Salmon, Steak, chicken. A salad and cannoli. One week before our Xmas party we were told that the price is another $4 per person, remember that’s plus tax, and 18% gratuity. We had a contract and the planner finally agreed to honour it. When we arrived the room was ready, and the server greeted us, Desiree was very attentive to our group and another helped her. Service was good. Now, the food came out, salads were good, along with Cannoli. The main course was the worst we have ever had, steaks cold, gravy on top of meat had congealed, potatoes Luke warm at best, vegetables not cooked. 10 people had steak and this was everyone’s comment. The salmon was at best Luke warm and over cooked, vegetables also undercooked. Rice was okay. The chicken was okay by the few that had it. Honestly we will never go here again, there is no excuse for food prepared like we received. Again thanks to Desiree for making our night go smoothly.
We had a party of 7 today and the food was delicious and hot! Yes, the food is pricey but on par with other restaurants as prices for everything has gone up! Our server Danara was very friendly and attentive. Hope to be seated at her table when we go back!
Relatively slow service for no apparent reason as the restaurant was not busy. Food was more expensive than other similar restaurants near by, plus they overcharged us and acted like they were doing us a favour by fixing their mistake. The wings were mediocre at best and the fries had an odd aftertaste (most likely they have not changed the oil in a long time) The patio is nice but you have to walk through a private party room to access it. People are not allowed to smoke on the patio but they are allowed to smoke in the parking lot that surrounds the patio, so we did get a healthy dose of secondhand smoke.on behalf of myself and my kids thanks for that. Will not go back and definitely do not recommend. Go to the Coach, Brassie or Collins they are established and reliable alternatives and will not disappoint like this place. Too be fair, maybe they were having a bad day, so give it a try if you feel so inclined and see for yourself.
The atmosphere is great and the vibe and service. The "smash" burger is neither smashed or tasty. I would advise you to stay away from burgers. Smash burgers usually have thin patties and crispy edges. The burger patty was dry and felt like it was frozen. The veggies and bun were good.
Open concept which is nice. Lots of people (white Caucasians), Great flavoured food. Small portions. Expensive. The minimum tip they ask is 15%. Service is good.
This place is amazing! The food was just perfect! We ordered the Big Kahuna Burger, Bang Bang Shrimp, and the Prime Rib Poutine. Everything was just absolutely delicious. The Poutine was PROPERLY MADE with Cheese in the middle. The burger was juicy in every single bite! The service was very good with Christy ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND this restaurant and we're definitely coming back to try some more.
Manager Dennis made things right by delivering 2 missing orders (Under Barry). I appreciate the extra desserts. We will order again. Next time we will make sure to call you guys next time we make another duplicate order.
Amazing staff teamed with great food and vibes. Between the live music on Fridays to the impressive wings and management, this place has me keep coming back!
Food was delicious, service was a bit slow but it was clear that they were understaffed so it was okay. Our server was friendly. I love their Wing Wednesday’s! We had spinach dip to start (AMAZING, best spinach dip I’ve ever had but didn’t get a picture) and I got the chicken avocado wrap with fries and wings with chipotle beer BBQ sauce. Would love to come back again to try the other items on the menu!
Excellent experience. Food was really good. Breaded wings were crispy and delicious, onion rings too, best ever. Staff was great, friendly, attentive, personable. First time here and we will definitely be back!
Been driving past this place for some time. Finally was able to try it and they didn't disappoint! Great food, great services and prices were good! Definitely would go back!
I just had my husband's 60th Birthday party here. Great atmosphere, great food, great service. I would highly recommend this place for your next party or event
Absolute slop served as The Turkey Christmas Dinner special for a work Party. Grey thick gravy poured over entire plate, rubber tasting turkey. Too bad. This is such a great venue… really need to up the game of food quality. Was too embarassed to take a photo of it.
Have been several times on the patio which is beautiful. Good service and food. The Thanksgiving takeout dinner tonight was good as well and they accommodate celiac diners with gluten free options
We celebrated my in-law’s 60th wedding anniversary party at Southcote 53 this past weekend and they did a wonderful job of accommodating our group of 25. They provided a private room with lots of space and big-screen tv’s which enabled us to view the slideshow we had created for the occasion. The restaurant staff were very helpful, flexible and accommodating from the beginning planning stages to the end. The food was well presented and arrived hot and fresh. It was an excellent experience in terms of location, food and service. Thank you Southcote 53 staff!
We had my husband's (Bruce Hand) celebration of life in the event tent yesterday. I want to say that Armando 'set us up' with what we needed, including the very large tv for the slide show! The servers were great, serving beverages to the group, and then the buffet of food came out! It was just so nice to be able to have an event like this! Thank you Southcote staff! Dale Hand
We held our 50th anniversary luncheon at Southcote 53. Food and Service were both excellent. Our server Allie was outstanding and the manager was attentive, well organized and ensured that everything went smoothly. I would also recognize their event organizer Alison who was also a pleasure to deal with.
Had the chicken tenders the chicken it self was moist and tender the batter I wish it was crisper and didn't fall off the chicken so easy and the flavour was bland. The brownie dessert was good but rather have one big chunk of brownie then 2 small pieces and more chocolate sauce
It was just fine. Ordered the chiken finger meal and it came with 3 small chicken pieces and the smallest amount of fries I have ever seen. My wife got the curry bowl she said it was good. The beer isn't anything to go for. I won't be back just way to much money for mediocrity
Went here for lunch on 22nd June 2021 with a friend on their patio. The food was great as was the atmosphere. The staff were friendly and accomodating. This was my first time visiting Southcote 53 and I was impressed with this spot. The reservation booking was seamless.
We just enjoyed the Valentine Day special. The charcuterie board was amazing. The prime rib dinner with Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes and vegetables was delicious. Top that off with decadent strawberry cheesecake and chocolate covered strawberries for dessert. Unable to enjoy our dinner at Southcote 53 because of Covid restrictions, the staff did an excellent job of preparing, presenting and enabling an efficient pick up of our dinner.
Ordered 4lbs of wings on January 27,2021 as part of the Wednesday special. Curbside pick up and went home. Opened the package and to my surprise, all the wings looked skimpy and dry. Took out my kitchen scale and the entire package weighed in at 2lbs on the dot and that's including the 4 take out containers. I was a frequent customer prior to covid and this was my first time ordering takeout during but due to this experience, I may never go back once covid is over.
Have been ordering alot since this craziness started. To be honest, live literally 2 mins away for 5 years now and because of a few poor experiences years ago, my wife and I gave up. But with the new management, and wanting to support local, we decided to try again and are so happy we did. From the Wings, to the fish & chips on Friday. And the poutine! Everything is fantastic, delicious and great portions. I definitely am glad we tried again and they certainly have us excited to go in person when we can. Thank you guys!
Wonderful experience here! Spacious patio, delicious food and great service! First time trying the fried chicken and I wasn’t disappointed! I recommend trying their wonton nachos with the jerk chicken, you’ll be craving it every week after!
Waitress and manager made me very uncomfortable by standing awfully close, forcing me to walk by. You don’t know if I’m sick, I don’t know if you’re sick if you want your restaurant to stay open then follow the rules, have some respect of my space
The breakfast was big and reasonably priced and tastey. The patio is nice and waitress was very friendly. They could do with some landscaping done, but keeping in mind that we are in a pandemic.
Surprisingly the best fish and chips I've had anywhere in the Hamilton area in a while. Service and food was great for our entire lunch party even without having a reservation which is recommended for the patio.
This was an awful experience. We’ve been here before and it was bdad then. We thought we would give it another try. Big mistake. Was asked before we even got seated properly when only had an hour and a half to eat and leave as there was a reservation. We had our own reservation but that did seem to matter.as soon as we sat down we ordered a pizza for a child even before our drinks waited some more to place our order. People who sat down after us got their meal before us. 5 in our party 4 in theirs. I could go on about the food but I’m sure I’ve made my point. Won’t go back won’t refer anyone and will post every where that I can about our experience.
Excellent food and atmosphere! (patio) First time there and tables were spaced well apart for social distancing. Our waitress was awesome and the food was fantastic! Prices are very reasonable. Definitely would go back
Just wanting to drop you a note about our party at Southcote 53 yesterday. Absolutely, over the top AMAZING! Everyone and I truly mean everyone in our group made a complimentary comment to me. Set up was great, staff was amazing and very accommodating, food was incredible. Your group made me look good and I look forward to my next visit. That was my wife’s and my first visit to your restaurant and even though my mother in law is there a couple of times a week had no idea how great Southcote 53 was. Couple of notes: Mark was fantastic – hands on, attention to detail, kept us informed and no request was ignored. He continued to check on us even with the other part of the patio full, his control of the food flow was 100% Janice, main waitress – never stopped, never got flustered, she was also amazing. Thinking she probably slept well last night Other waitress’s, support staff, (food runners/table cleaners) sorry don’t know their names – again 100%. Food, unbelievable – everything was great from plating, distribution/flow, quantity but more important the quality, I am still full! Again everyone commented on it. I could go on and on, but I hope you get my point. Everyone’s attention to detail was 200%. Please pass on our thanks to everyone at Southcote 53 who made my mother in laws 80th Birthday a really special day. My mother in law was extremely happy and grateful that she got to spend her day at her favorite spot with many of her friends. And last but certainly not least, Many thanks to you for holding my hand through the process and for all your suggestions and directions in making this possible during these different times. Thank you and Thanks to the staff (again and again) for such great attention to detail. Looking forward to our next visit.
Went for lunch. Patio was nice and safety observed. Bad item! The menus had coffee stains on them and signs of prior use. Server brought out our lunch and took to the wrong table and put it in front of the customers. They replied it wasn't thier order. At that point the waitress picked up the food and took it back inside. A couple minutes later she brought out the meals and told us they changed plates and the food was cold. The other table talked over our food. Tracking was not performed upon entry either. Last item they, they brought out the wrong check.
I was able to host my mom's 70th Birthday in August, during Covid-19! Some of her dear friends and family were able to attend. Thanks to Alison and her team at Southcote 53. They made it a true surprise. Great atmosphere and service thanks to Heather! Everyone had a great time!
Over all great food /menu and service. The other restaurants in this biz have similar quality. Always a good choice for any time of day or occasion. All great places for food times with friends!
The looks of this place are more appealing than the food. After driving by and seeing how busy the patio was and ambiance it had, my wife and I decided to try it. Menu looked good although very limited choices for my vegetarian wife. The food was nothing special and seemed pre-prepared and just warmed to serve. For the price a better meal could’ve been had at more than a dozen local restaurants.
Ginormous patio - best in Ancaster. The food is good. My husband swears by the burgers. I had a new menu item - chicken Cristina, and it was delicious. Always a good time and consistently good food.
My party if six enjoyed a great Friday evening, in a cozy setting with a staff of servers to tend to all our needs. Great food and job. We will be back!
Excellent food, a good environment and great service. Live music Thursday's! A little on the expensive side. The pasta "special" for $25 is consistently tasty but $8-10 too expensive.
Totally goin back to this restaurant. Made a reservation to celebrate a birthday with 10 ppl. Had great fast service. Food was delicious and hot. Waitresses were friendly and helpful. And prices were reasonable with a lot of variety. Definately check this restaurant out.
The reservation was mixed up.the manager was pretty blase about it.but fortunately we got our table.as there was 13 of us, celebrating a birthday. It all turned out well. Our server, Vanessa I believe.was good and we had a good time and good food.
We haven't been for a while, and decided to go for lunch w the family. We were surprised of the noticible wear of the restaurant which is definately due for an update. However, staff was friendly and attentive as we remembered. I ordered the open-face roast beef sandwich ($16) w poutine upgrade ($3), my wife ordered the buffalo chicken soup special ($6), and my daughter ordered the calamari appetiser ($15) with a side Ceasar ($2.50) from the kids menu, & we all shared an order of breaded wings ($17).
The good: the mushroom & onion gravy was great w the roast beef & poutine; the wings with house-made gorgonzola cheese dressing were excellent; the crispy calamari were delicious with the 2 aioli it was served with; and the soup was tasty.
The bad: the 'pile' of roast beef were 2 thin slices hiding another piece of bread, similarly 8 wings should not cost more than $2/ea (we expected 12 for the price), poutine requires curds not grated cheese, and calamari although the portion size was good are best served with the tentacles included.
The ugly: I may return for a beer with the buds to watch a game and split a poutine or the wings only because they were so tasty, but lunch with the family, costing over $75 after tip without drinks is definately not happening again.
They have potential to be great again, but they seriously need to reconsider more family friendly pricing to bring in more customers and compete with the other pubs in the neighborhood.
Good food! The waitress let us know at the end of our meal that kids eat free for the month of January! Sweet. Enjoyed the live music too! Will visit soon! Cheers!
Terrible! Waited on SkipTheDishes for 40 minutes and the restaurant couldn’t bother to confirm the order. I even called the restaurant after waiting 10 minutes and was told by the woman who answered the phone that she would confirm the order right away. Another 30 minutes passed and the order was still not confirmed. Will never order from here again!
