FYI for anyone else looking for the hours of operation for the Radiology department (x-ray), there are 8am to 4 pm (at least on weekdays- not sure about weekends)

I had never heard of South Lake hospital before being referred there for a gastroscopy at the Medical Arts Building.
We arrived 45 minutes early and were promptly processed in, and in the endoscopy ward we were then promptly addressed and processed by a volunteer. In five minutes flat I was taken in and promptly but unhurriedly readied for the procedure by young and courteous nurses. I met the thoracic surgeon, who was concise, warm, and approachable. The procedure was done professionally, and I was out the door even before my appointment time! There was no sign of the national staff shortage and straining of resources. It could not have been better.

I Give Southlake, a big fat zero stars worst hospital ever please stay away from the emergency room
02 November 2023 12:12
If you want adequate staff who care about their patients go to SUNNYBROOK never Southlake.

If I could put zero stars I would….

This hospital has horrendous bedside manner in the birthing unit. Made my friend cry everyday because of how they spoke to her and treated her. Assuming she’s doing something she shouldn’t with no evidence of such and instead putting blame on her then themselves which is shameful. They have no sympathy and yet still choose to talk over the patient and not actually care about what they say or think.

She’s pregnant… yet it’s apparently ok to talk down to her like she’s nothing…

The 1 star is for that handful or nurses who actually made her smile, where many others on the floor made me feel like I wasn’t there and my voice was not important. Felt like even I was invisible and I’m not even the patient… I’m the visitor and this is unacceptable. It’s basic human decency to show compassion for someone in need. Thats their job and they fail at it time and time again.

I think those individuals should lose their job as I don’t think they should ever make ANYONE ELSE feel that way again.

Yes I’m angry… this shouldn’t be tolerated

A joke when it comes to treating mental health issues. Also, a four hour long wait to get an appointment at emergency care is unacceptable.

This hospital deserves a 0.
I arrived at the emergency with extreme pain at 1am (I was the only patient in the emergency) the nurse was the nicest person, she kept asking if I'm doing ok or if I need anything (wish I asked her name)
The hospital itself is a very dirty place, the chairs are very old and ripped. There is no X-ray or ultrasound working untill 7am. So if you were in a car accident God help you otherwise you have to wait until 7am for them to even start examining you. It's now 9am and I've asked the morning nurse and she said: they'll call you name for ultrasound (not sure what's taking them so long, this service is not acceptable as ppl in car accidents could die waiting for X-ray/ultrasound department to open)

I was working on the 3rd floor. The MACU unit. At 12 midnight is the nurses sleeping time.
I observed several nurses strolling stretchers down the halls with pillows and blankets going into places to sleep. At that time in the morning. There's hardly anyone on the floor. Then they complain about over worked. Who gets paid to sleep at work at the rate of pay they're receiving. Something needs to be done about these years of abuse of tax payers money by these nurses. It's not only this hospital. It happens at all the hospitals I've worked.

It is difficult to rate this hospital well given my experience on Thursday, April 6/23. I had a minor surgery during the day and suffered from a rare complication that evening, hemorrhaging massive amounts of blood. I was rushed into the ER where the ER doctor was calm and told me I’d be attended to shortly by the specialist to be stitched back up. That never happened; they had to close an ER room for cleaning due to bleeding so much in the room around other patients, quickly wheeling me into a private room. I continued to bleed continuously for a 4-hour period, when at 1 am, or later, the specialist finally came in to stop the bleeding. By that point, my clothes were drenched in blood, there were pools of blood around me and I went through 3 hospital gowns due to bleeding through them. I went from being a healthy, young, woman with above average iron levels to now being technically anemic due to the 4-hour wait for what should have been urgent treatment. There appeared to be a significant miscommunication as the specialist said she wasn’t even aware I was at the hospital until 2.5 hrs from when I arrived! I am shocked that in our Canadian system, it appears you’d just be led to bleed out. From researching other healthcare systems, it seems in Australia, I would be triaged to be in within 30 mins due to significant loss of blood. I have put in a complaint to patient services as I’m still shocked and disappointed how this could happen.

My mother inlaw had to have her leg removed because of lack if care from nurses. This hospital is so dirty it disgusting, went 3 days in a row to go to there Tim Hortons and then yesterday 4th day after I was done, with no care went to Tim's and again same coffee sitting in same spot. I got to sit by a pile of blood for 15 mins. While clean swept and mopped past it. NASTY

My daughter had baby there. Staffs are some are good some are okay. But food department is really unorganized. Until 7pm we didn't get food. Just asked they said they forgot kitchen closed now and order food from out side. They get pay for everything. This was happened. So unorganized. That way so dissapointed

Fantastic hospital and very caring staff. I showed up at emerge yesterday with a serious infection. The doctor was just amazing got me on IV right away and made sure I had everything I needed. I was in and out within an hour. I have spent 4 years in hospitals on and off after 17 operations. I really must say Southlake is among the best I have seen. If your at southlake you dealing with the best. Dont listen to the negative reviews.

I had to visit the ER with a family member. All the staff I encountered were very sweet and accommodating. While they were understaffed, the waiting time was still reasonable and they did their utmost best with the limited resources they had.
31 May 2023 5:40
Absolutely terrible staffing. They don’t take you or your pain seriously.
All the nurses would much rather stand around and gossip about patients and their personal lives than tend to anyone’s needs.
They like to act as if they are busy to avoid caring for anyone.
They are extremely disorganized.

Don’t go here if you’re any different color than White. I went here with my mother on Monday May 1st, 2023. We went to the ER because her blood pressure was through the roof. We finished with the doctor & he said we were next we just had to wait for the ECG tech person to come back so he put our sticker on the door frame. A nurse came & put another sticker below ours. The ECG tech person came & put the stickers with the name on her arm & read the sticker & could see we were not white & chose the next person who was white who came before us. I waited calmly with my mother hoping this was just a mistake. Nope! It was not because as soon as another sticker came she put it on her arm right next to my mothers sticker & called that white person instead once again. I thought for sure my mother would be next after this second person, & once again nope! Someone white literally just came & she told them to come in so welcoming & she helped them right away. I of course held my tongue long enough & complained to a nurse & told her exactly what happened & even she too was stunned at why the ECG tech person was doing this on purpose so she told another nurse to make sure we are next when they come out. When they came out the nurse told her we were next & that was the ONLY reason she took my mother in. After my mother was done taking her ECG she asked the racist nurse what does she do now & where does she go & she blantly says “I don’t know I only do ECG I can’t help you” & walks away. She SURELY knows whether we sit or wait or move somewhere. How does everyone know what to do in their department except her? So of course I had to find the same nurse again that helped us earlier dealing with the racist one & ask her what does my mother do now. I checked the time we were trying to get an ECG around 4pm on Monday May 1st, 2023 & it was a short white old racist ECG Tech/nurse. I couldn’t get her name because she covered her whole name tag with stickers. I wonder whyyyyyyy! Avoid this place at all cost!

There is a family doctor that works along side the actual doctor at the fracture clinic. I think his name is Dr. Sahir. A young Iranian man who was absolutely unprofessional, rude and condescending towards me and my daughter and tried to deny my daughter of a cast for her fracture. He wouldn’t listen to my concerns about my daughter’s fracture and blatantly told me that it’s “healed” in 4 days and that she doesn’t need a cast. He told me that basically everything I know is wrong. This immauture dr kept unprofessionally squeezing her arm and saying “look look look. She’s not crying. If it was broken she would cry”. First of all it’s a fracture. Not a broken bone. Secondly there is no fracture in this world that would heal in 4 days. We initially were told 4 weeks to 4 months of being in a cast to fully recover. Thirdly. When he was squeezing her arm she jumped and gasped which he completely ignored. (She is non verbal to strangers and is shy.) Dr. Sahir wouldn’t listen. Worst so called doctor I’ve ever spoke with in my life. So uneducated inexperienced rude condescending and arrogant.

This so called doctor even went as far as telling the actual fracture clinic doctor that it’s healed and it doesn’t need any further attention. Thank goodness the fracture clinic doctor actually is educated and knows what he’s doing and saying; quickly and surely upon exam said to put a cast on for at least minimum of 2 weeks.

Thank you so much to the fracture clinic doctor who provided my daughter with the appropriate treatment to heal her fracture. And proved this so called dr sahir Wrong!

I cannot wait to see him again in 2 weeks when we go for follow up! I have alot to say.

There must be an office to go to to file a formal complaint against a medical “professional” within the hospital.

So unfortunate that Southlake has this guy as one of their doctors. He is misdiagnosing and fabricating false claims all because he was in a bad mood and did everything in his power to deny my daughter of a cast to ignorantly prove a point. Such a shame. I wonder how many other non- Iranian patients he has tried to brush off on his bad days.

We are in the hospital for treatment, not to take the blunt end of someone’s bad day.

I would like to thank all the nurses and doctors who helped me the last 2 days while dealing with appendicitis. I have severe anxiety and so anything that involves surgery and pain gives me anxiety attacks. Everyone was super sweet and reassuring. Even the emergency nurses were super amazing even thought it was overly packed. The surgeon and the nurses that were assisting were also very calming and assuring. Which made me feel a lot better.
22 May 2023 2:46
Was here to be induced, and deliver my baby. After induction process was started, the nurses noticed my contractions were causing the babe's heartrate to be irregular.
After monitoring this, the doctor decided that a cesarean be done, as they suspected the umbilical cord to be causing the issue.
Within half an hour I was the OR, being prepped for surgery. My boy was born April 2,2023, at 3: 39 pm. Dad was able to be present for the surgery, to keep me calm.
Very thankful Dr Watt decided on the c section, as attempting a natural birth would have caused more stress to baby bear, and an emergency surgery, where dad wouldn't have been able to be present, and I likely would have been put out completely.
After birth, the nurses were super helpful with everything. I did not feel like a nuisance at any point during the time spent here.
Thanks to everyone that was involved!

The most disturbing portion of the visit was witnessing a young nurse make fun of an elderly woman on her death bed. I encourage Southlake Hospital to refer back to the basics of their Patient Care Declaration & Policy which is posted on the door of its patients. The majority of its nursing staff and doctors are lacking in basic protocol and compassion. The saving grace of this hospital is their advanced IV Team. Too many staff are on their phones while patients beg for water from their rooms. Patients are being injured and delayed in their care from poor IV practises, creating blockages and infections which is alarming. I was disturbed when my family member was receiving IV and the nurse and manager of the floor verbally abused us over the pain she was receiving from an untrained member. Southlake needs to do better. It is true that the hospital is quite dirty, and many of the facilities are closed down.

We have been to Southlake many times over the past few years for a variety of reasons, and have always received excellent care.

I went to the Southlake ER yesterday and it was pretty obvious that the ER was busier than a usually busy Monday. However, all of the staff that helped me showed concern, were friendly and helpful, and demonstrated positive attitudes.  That visit only reinforced our opinion that the staff at Southlake are exceptional and deserve any kudos that come their way.

I was at the emergency last night (March 28) with my mom, Triage nurses were so IMPOLITE and RUDE, not helpful at all.
Can you hire people who are caring and have welcoming attitudes?
(That’s not the first time seeing this there unfortunately that is the only hospital that is close to me)
TO ALL THE RUDE AND USELESS NURSES: THE PATIENT DO NOT NEED TO SEE AND DEAL WITH YOUR UGLY ATTITUDE, LEAVE! NOBODY FORCED YOU TO BE THERE IF YOU CANNOT SERVE PAIENT IN PROPER WAY, AND OPEN THE SPOT FOR THE KIND AND CARING PEOPLE.
A least nurses inside were nice.

The service to my wife was diligent, on time, amazing and lovely staff since the check in to check out. Nicky was even able to help us with the wheel chair until front door. God bless every one specially the voluntary catolic lady than was 1 min before we left. Is not an easy job but they did the best for us.

This is worst Hospital. Never go here. My mom came as a healthy person but never came back home alive again, she did simple test here, and the doctor did (huge ERROR) rupture of esophageal during the procedure (it was performed by Dr. Molly Thangaroopan). My mom unfortunately never recovered from infection and complications of that Error. In ICU she got two more infections (including blood infections) Also, it was flies in ICU room sitting on my mom’s face (Manager of ICU ignored my complaints). I filed huge complaint in "College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario" against Southlake Regional Health Centre and Dr. Molly Thangaroopan but my mom will never be alive because of this Hospital and this doctor again.
She passed away on Sep 21 2022. RIP.

I went to emergency Sunday afternoon around 1. Everybody was nice expect doctor. I had severe cough and he did not examine and base on explanation did not gave any medication. He said you are ok cough till you get better! So I went to walk in clinic and got 3 medication. A I am asking hospital, please hire responsible and more educated doctors.

Emergency dept doesn't know the difference between bone cancer pain in the hip and sciatica. Don't be dismissed without a full workup. These guys only care to push patients out to meet their performance indicators. THIS WILL NOT EVER BE A TRUSTED CANCER HOSPITAL WITHOUT EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONALS.
27 April 2023 4:30
From the moment I arrived to the second I left, I was treated so well. The staff was kind and caring. I can't thank the Nurses (especially Nurse Rebecca) for everything she did to make me feel and make me comfortable. Dr. Walmsley Dr. Hannah and Dr. Marco and the rest off the surgical staff.your amazing!
25 April 2023 13:07
An attending nurse post-op told me to " stop crying please it will bother other patients" when I was in distress & emotional and only crying after my serious knee fracture repair surgery. Unbelievable & completely outrageous! Train your nurses on how to communicate with patients. This is not acceptable to say to a patient post-op after surgery! Note to the nurse: if you don't like your job that's on YOU get one elsewhere, but don't go around saying that to people! An innocent patient isnt responsible for your misery and personal troubles whatever may be! I was not in the mental state obviously post-op to tell you off or else I would've!
16 April 2023 8:03
If you want to waste hours of your time and then not even be treated by useless doctors and miserable nurses then go to this third world style hospital. You will leave in worse shape then how you entered stressed out and tired and untreated
Il never be going back.

Senior citizen with possible infection to knee after knee surgery refused treatment by Southlake Regional Health Centre. Family dr sent patient by ambulance to closest hospital to his home. Surgery originally done out of town at another hospital and surgeon is away currently. SouthLake refused treatment as patient was not theirs. Sent home and told to wait outside hospital for someone to pick him up. No patient transfer or any assistance to any other health facility. Totally unacceptable!
