Beautiful houses, informative story about history, free+funny+charismatic+knowledgeable tourist guide! I do not know his name, but he is the best tour guide I ever met!

Excellent for the price! (Free!) Also free guided tours are available on Wed Thu Fris. Very informative and interesting! Highly recommend.

Beautiful free museum! I was alone for the guided visit, so I had the chance to discuss with the guide and to ask questions. It was very interesting and I really enjoyed the visit! Thank you!

Interesting piece of history, learned quite a bit of new info.
Our tour guide reminded me of Whil Wheaton lol

Came here with a group of friends and we did the free tour. It was amazing! So interesting to tour the house, see and hear about what life was like 100 years ago. FYI there is free parking on Davenport on Sundays!

Open grounds to wander in and perfect for a summer stroll. Highly recommend since it is next to Casa Loma which can be pricey and packed to visit. This is a city run venue with a historical house and lots of area to wander or picnic in. There is a shop on site but it doesn’t carry a lot. We were able to set up a blanket on the grass and have a nice picnic lunch when we visited.

Lovely museum and gardens. Went with my friends on the free tour, then hung out in the gardens for a few hours - absolutely amazing day:)

Really interesting theme for Open Doors Toronto. Thoughtfully done. Grounds really well maintained.

Well Maintained Legacy - the Tour Guide explained with passion on the smallest details (If my memory is correct the Guide was Ms. Monica). Great place one should visit.

It's a must see! Excellent! From now until December 2022 there are paintings by the artist Gordon Shanrach of Mrs. Pipkin and some of the Toronto Raptors. The museum is free (donations are accepted) The staff at front desk are friendly and helpful. Guide Shan was amazing!

Great free admission museum opportunity. Interesting Dis/Mantle exhibition, however it has taken over the entire museum experience. There is the house and its history, the history of the servant, and the artist's expression of this and all focus is on the latter. I wild like to have to get to know more about the house and the servant. The art was breaking too much from the context of the house

Nice historic landmark and pretty exterior- was here for the Dis/Mantle exhibit and it was great to learn briefly about Black history with a modern artistic interpretation. It is currently a free exhibit! There is a greenhouse in the garden but that is closed to the public.

I went to the Spadina museum to see the DisMantled exhibit that they were featuring very exhibit and friendly and knowledgeable staff

We attended Dismantle, a deeply moving and important event/installation that was executed beautifully. Beyond that, the grounds and the building are wonderful and worth seeing regardless of what might be running there at the time.

Historical house museum tour. David, our guide, was out-of-this-world fantastic at his work. Tours are free, but open to a limited number of participants. A free alternative to Casa Loma.

I was able to visit this place as a part of Doors Open Toronto. The house is fantastic - they've done a wonderful job maintaining the historical finishes inside - to match the photos that exist.

There was staff in every room, explaining details about the house. They had a video playing in the basement that went into even more detail.

The grounds are even more stunning. They had little games like they would have been playing in the 1800s. The trees were flowering (!), the gardens were perfect. It was breathtaking.

You need 3 to 4 visits to cover all the floors.
A collection of masterpieces you would never find anywhere else.

A gem! A Toronto house-turned-museum with guided tours and special events. The guide showing us around was very knowledgable, and was able to answer questions we had prepared. A great bit of Toronto history, and in fact a quiet inspiration for betterment.

Worth a visit!

Beautiful Museum. We actually had our wedding ceremony at the Museum. The sunroom is perfect for a small, intimate wedding. The exterior for wedding photos are just beautiful. However, due to the inclement weather we had (the random snowy week in November), we didn’t get a chance to take pictures outside. The events coordinator is truly amazing. She is prompt with response emails and listened to every concern we had. She also made it so we could take pictures inside. The event staff are professional, and very experienced! Our day went smoothly and we are absolutely in love with the pictures.

My favorite historical house in Toronto and if you get a pass from the library it's free. The gardens are free as well and beautiful. Right across from Casa who?
11 February 2020 3:42
A great museum just steps from Casa Loma. I enjoyed the small tour more than the bigger attraction next door.
21 January 2020 17:30
Amazing place to learn about the 20s to 50s lifestyle. Cool themed events too, check out the Facebook page to see what's coming up. Highly recommend!
17 January 2020 8:23
Lovely museum that is totally worth a stop if you're planning on visiting Casa Loma. Not only is it a 2 minute walk from the main attraction next door, you even get a 25% discount if you show them the ticket to Casa Loma. Lovely home with extremely knowledgeable tour guides able to transport you to the era when this house was constructed. It's easy to tell the detail that went along with making a home so meticulously and with great finesse.

I was here for a 1920s card making class. Great staff, lots of information with 1920 recipes of cookies as a snack. Loved it!

This museum is a hidden gem! A significant part of our city's history. With the cutest gift shop, too. A must see.

Very well kept house with period furniture. There is a guided tour with a knowledgeable guide.
The grounds are vast and beautiful with many trees and flowers.
21 December 2019 19:43
Beautiful building and property! Although the group was small, our museum guide Cal was extremely theatrical, professional and informative which brought the 1920s building to life! As foreigners, it was nice to also learn about some history of Toronto as well.
23 November 2019 3:20
It was nuit blanche and lots of lighting art to see. Very impressive. Also take a walk through austin terrace you will catch a beautiful view of downtown Toronto from the hilltop.
13 November 2019 18:11
Beautiful place! I had heard about a children's event and decided to attend with my family. I was a little disappointed because they said on the post that there would be many activities but it turned out to be dull. Staff weren't there to monitor anything and the activities didn't really turn out to be anything. I did pay for the tour so we got to enjoy that but they shouldn't try to bring people in with false advertising.
25 October 2019 6:49
Beautiful historic place. But if you are thinking of having your wedding here, choose a different venue. The local residents make it impossible to use this beautiful venue because of their noise restrictions. Recommend going if they hold their own event.
18 October 2019 10:38
Lovely gardens and historical home. Worth a visit if in the Casa Loma area, and if you'd like to see something other than Casa Loma.
01 October 2019 9:58
Gorgeous and tranquil garden! Highly recommend the PWYC yoga that happens twice a month here.in the summer, it takes place in the garden; otherwise it's in a large sitting room in the house:)
01 October 2019 3:35
I had a wonderful time here learning about how people lived and the ages that this house has been through. The architecture and setting made it great for pictures!
27 September 2019 6:24
A beautifully renovated villa from the end of the 19th century, reviving 1920's upper class history and way of life. Take the guided tour, first ask for the schedule. It is only open 12-4pm for this season. Also surrounded by beautiful and relaxing gardens. You can visit in conjunction with the neighbouring Casa Loma at a special price.
27 September 2019 6:16
A beautiful establishment and garden in close proximity to casa Loma. This place can get pretty busy during peak times but it's a wonderful location to learn some of Toronto's history or enjoy the serene gardens. Also an absolutely beautiful spot to take photos. For bigger shoots you will require a permit.
23 September 2019 3:08

Very happy to see such a wonderful museum in my area. If you get a chance to check out the Spadina Museum you should do it.
09 September 2019 18:39
Spadina Museum is a little gem of Toronto that many do not seem to even be aware of!
So much interesting history in this home and has, basically, all original furnishings of the Austin family.
Easy and inexpensive ($10) to book a tour which is less than one hour and very informative.
The house has beautifully kept grounds which are lovely to meander through and enjoy. If you love wallpaper and a peek into what the lifestyle of a prominent family in 1920's Toronto was like, this is the place for you!
04 September 2019 15:47
Great museum! Been to plenty of conserved houses but never seen a 20's one before. Since it's relatively recent, it's very well preserved and authentic.

Note: you get a discount if you bought a ticket to Casa Loma before. Also, it's a guided tour.
29 August 2019 21:03
For anyone who loves Downton Abbey, I would recommend a visit to Spadina House as well when in Toronto. It is a time capsule of the home of one of the most influential families in the History of Toronto. Very well preserved home with all of the original family furnishings and it is right next door to another historical attraction, Casa Loma!
24 August 2019 9:45
Spadina Museum is definitely one of my favorite places in Toronto. They do an amazing job at keeping the spaces in perfect conditions so you feel the character of the house, the history around it and the serenity of the gardens.

Great for outdoor meditation, to bring family and friends and I actually recommend it better than Casa Loma (for a third of the price you get more history and less of a "venue")

Dogs are allowed outside.

Great great place.

A nice quaint museum. Worth a visit if you are also going to Casa Loma. Tours are much more in depth then Casa Loma and a real person is you tour guide
