Spice Mart South Indian Take out and Grocery

Spice Mart is my absolute favourite restaurant in Barrie. The food is always authentic and no matter what I order I am always delighted with my choice! Employees are also great and always efficient, happy and polite. Highly recommended for party orders because they really know what they are doing, competitive pricing as well!

I visited Spice Mart in Barrie today around 3: 00 pm, excited to try the Appam and Beef Stew combo along with Chicken Biryani and Gulab Jamun. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfying. Firstly, I didn't receive the beef stew as expected; instead, I was served what was supposed to be butter chicken.

The butter chicken was a letdown, lacking both the appearance and taste expected of this dish. It resembled more of a chicken roast with a color vaguely reminiscent of butter chicken. The dish had no discernible flavor, leaving me thoroughly disappointed. As a regular customer of Spice Mart, I have generally found their offerings acceptable, but this visit was a notable exception.

To make matters worse, the beef stew, advertised as "today's special, " was unavailable, which was surprising and disheartening. This experience was subpar compared to my usual encounters with Spice Mart. I hope the management takes note of these concerns and strives to improve the consistency and quality of their offerings. Owner and employees are very helpful and outstanding customer care. They are doing catering in GTA with reasonable price and doing delivery on time. Food Quality & Quantity also good

Only buying groceries from here, that too check the price with the cashier before buying.some are unnecessarily expensive.food is very bad. Doesn’t have any feelings, they just make it for the sake of making it is what I feel.you probably can cook better food than this.

They're South Indian dishes are super some of them any way. Like chicken curry I recently tried was good. Their biryani is also good.

I used to absolutely love ordering curry from this place but the past 2 experiences were traumatic. So, the first time it happened when I ordered beef curry from this place. Both me and my girlfriend got equally sick and I even had to take a day off work because of severe diarrhea.
Anyway, since I personally know the person who runs the shop, I thought of letting it go. Tried to blame it on my stomach and also assumed it might be just one specific curry.
After this incident, we tried to avoid buying food from there at all costs. We also heard a lot of negative reviews (from some of my close friends).
But day before yesterday we went there again to give it another try and thought this time we’ll avoid beef and order chicken curry. Fate had same plans for us this time. We ended up getting really bad case of diarrhea.
This time we are not going to blame our stomach because we are a 101% sure that it’s the food for sure.
What is surprising is the fact that the food tastes fine (it doesn’t taste old or smells foul). So we are guessing it probably might be bad hygiene.
Anyway, one of my friend has luckily saved the leftovers she had and got sick and has sent to the food safety department. We hope we’ll get to know about the root of the problem real soon.

But I’ll never deny the fact that it’s a good spot for grocery shopping. We really enjoy grocery shopping there, the place has good south Indian items.

I really hope the shop takes my review into consideration and look into the matter as its health related and a risk to people.

Two days back brought peanut bar taste weird, after eating this candy stomach pain too much. Please kindly don’t sell spoil things on shop. We are trusting much and traveling long way to purchase. It’s happening 3 time in row.

Spice mart is the best South Kerala store I’ve ever been to! They have amazing customer service. The food is phenomenal. This store makes me feel at home! The family that runs the store is so sweet and authentically mallu!

My go-to spot for Kerala food especially chicken biriyani and also groceries. We can get all kind of spices and groceries required for a Kerala family, especially the apt one to go for during traditional festivals. I wish to emphasize the helping mentality of Biju who is ready to arrange for any items as per our requirements whenever possible.

I hate giving bad reviews but this one, I have no choice because it is a risk to other people as well if I don't share this experience. It happened to me and my friend after getting beef curry from the shop. Getting curries from Spice mart is a very convenient choice and it wasn't the first time we were doing it. But this time it costed us a good amount of time in the toilet in the form of diarrhoea. It was so much worse for my friend as he was the one who had most of the curry. I really doubt the hygiene of the shop. I have heard other negative comments from people but never really believed until it happened to us. I had a bad experience once shopping there when I was made to wait at least 20 minutes to get my items billed. But I didn't comment about it because it didn't cost me my health. But this time it's different. I hope if the customers are experiencing such diarrhoea frequency after eating from Spice mart, the cooks should get tested or be educated about personal hygiene or cross contamination after finding out the cause.

The food here is really tasty, the real South Indian taste you could find here. The employees are so welcoming. Customer service is the best part always ready to help and guide. Spice Mart never made me regret anytime.

Nice place to get ethnic food/spices. They have decent collection of spices. Staff is very nice and cooperative.

Exceptional South Indian grocery store! The variety of authentic ingredients and spices here is unmatched. I love the convenience of being able to pick up everything I need for cooking at home. And the bonus? Their delicious food takeaway is a real treat for those busy days when I need a quick and tasty meal. Highly recommended!

I purchased off Too Good To Go. When I showed up to pick up noone knew what was hoing on. The girls at the counter rummaged through boxes and began pulling items out of boxes and hanfing random things to me. Of the 5 items she handed me ALL items were expired Dec 2019, May 2020 June 2020 Jan 2021 and March 2021. This is just not right. Don't try to pawn off to me items that are old and should have been thrown away years ago!
