We just drove by the sculpture and took a quick picture. With all the focussed lights and wind, the sculpture looked huge and dominated its surroundings.

The Spirit Catcher is a beautiful piece of art placed on Barries water front.

It was a great location to hold this year's event for Truth and Reconciliation day.

Beautiful sculpture, even when we visited at night and it was raining. We could see subtle movements in the sculpture. I would like to visit again on a windy day to see the sculpture in full movement. Very unique, and much larger than I had thought it would be.

Great time by the water, great place to get out and get some fresh air.nice beach, paved path all around the park, ample of parking, see the the giant wind catcher that actually moves with the wind.

This is a large kinetic sculpture made with an image of a Thunderbird, carrying people's dreams and desires to the Creator. The wings are shaped as sharp blades that move with the wind. The sculpture is both interesting and mythical to behold.
When I visited last weekend, the sculpture was decorated with children's shoes and toys, as a memorial to the children lost in former residential school. It was a dark page in Canadian history and around the world where young and the vulnerable were victims of racial injustice. Let's do our part and don't let history repeats itself.

Great park! Lovely for a walk and various places to eat on the other side of the road. Has a mesmerizing memorial for the native children.

Former located at what is now George Wainborn Park along False Creek in Vancouver during Expo '86. Created by Ron Baird, who's other work Sea Serpent can be found nearby at Heritage Park.

What a great tribute to all those children, the view is phenomenal. I'm very happy I stopped by this and pay my respects!

A sad place with the shoes representing missing indigenous school children. How could education have been used to harm a generation
25 July 2021 3:06
At the Spirit Catcher are 215 shoes for the children that died in the Residential School in BC. Not sure when 104 more will be added from only the second Residential School in Brandon Manitoba

Scary and inappropriate!

Definitely needs to be destroyed and replaced with something less demonic.

Parking, water views, marina, and a majestic structure that tells the importance of being one with our spirit and the universal.

Always a treat to get to any body of water but the Spirit Catcher at Barrie's Waterfront is quite striking to observe in motion! Mild to moderate winds allow this art piece to come to life.

Classic landmark. Views of the lake and marina. Even some work out equipment near by to try out. Worst part is the parking lot.

A little bit of everything for the home and self. The service is great and the prices are reasonable.

What a beautiful and meaningful piece. You can feel the spirit. I’m sitting here now looking at it an basking in its resonance. Thank you Ron Baird for its creation.
14 August 2019 17:56
Pretty sure my spirit was sucked out of my chest while here. I'm glad because now without having a soul I'm brave enough to confront my angry overbearing step-aunt about her witch practices. However the steps at the statue had bird excrement all over it, so I can only give this 4 stars.

Parking is 1$ an hour. Lots to do and lots to see around here. There's another sculpture of a sea serpent near by. That area is very pretty to walk through. Many ducks and geese!

This is the devil statute of Barrie. The local legends say that it catches the souls and spirits of the broken and homeless of Barrie. The peak of this statute looks just below Bayfield street after the 400 highway. If your existing HWY 400 on Bayfield st, you may run into one of these deamond's perhaps with a deceving "God Bless" cardboard sign asking for money. If your feeling kind hearted, toss them a dollar, just know that they are (90% of the time) going to buy crack or heroin with your money. It starts there, as you move down the Bayfield st hill it only gets worse. You will get closer and closer to the Barrie Spirit Catcher, just make sure you lock your car doors and DO NOT feel sympathetic for anyone who "needs money for a bus" or "I'v lost my wallet". Living in Barrie for 20 years, I have seen it all.oh, and one more thing, don't make eye contact with anybody downtown unless you want to turn into stone statute yourself. Oh oh oh, and 1 more thing. Stay the F away from that McDonalds, the methadone clinic is right around the corner. Be safe out there, if you stay downtown Barrie for too long in view of this "Spirit Catcher" it will slowly eat your spirit and soul away.

This is a cool metal sculpture with "feathers" that move in the breeze. It's pretty impressive, and makes a neat photo opportunity. I wouldn't go out of my way to see it, but it's already in the scenic/touristy part of Barrie, so chances are you'll see it anyway.

So dumb.what a waste of time and materials.there is a place just down the street where you can watch paint dry
22 February 2019 8:46
Hi visitors, I would like to remind you that there are free parking across the Simcoe street in the weekends/holidays, or not 9-5 in working days. I saw many people were paying in the weekends.

This lovely piece of art accents the beauty of the Barrie marina and water front. There is a great park and trail for hiking or jogging.and park benches to sit and watch the boats or people fish of the banks of the Mariana basin. It is close to the Hotels and restaurants.over all it's pretty cool to see.
