Spirit of Math Oakville

I have been going to Spirit of Math since I was in grade 3 and it has greatly benefited my academics. The advanced concepts that are taught are not only useful for later grades and make day-school math class a breeze but also provide a fun and interesting challenge. Also, the studying and work habits I developed helped me in other subjects and I keep developing them even 8 years later. I have also met like-minded peers and have been a part of classes which have a great sense of community and I have created amazing memories with them. The teachers and assistant teachers are all very kind, helpful, and approachable making the campus even more inviting. Overall, I highly recommend the Spirit of Math program as it has an incredibly beneficial curriculum and it is an amazing community.

I’ve been with Spirit of Math since I was in grade 2, and the experience has helped shape who I am today. The way they taught us how to solve problems and how to think of them really helped with my development as a learner. I also learned life skills from a young age, such as being responsible to do homework every week, how to study for my tests, and how to communicate my thoughts and ideas. I will always be thankful for what I’ve been taught at this institution with a wonderful community of teachers and students.

Spirit of Math has been an excellent program for me that has allowed me to improve my proficiency in math and train skills that allowed me to succeed in my high school career. Spirit of Math provides unique experiences for high-achieving students with an interest in mathematics that would enable them to be successful in mathematic competitions (i.e. Waterloo Contests) and strands of STEM (i.e. Robotics and computer science). Being a grade 11 AP student at John Fraser, Spirit of Math has helped me become prepared for the competitive environment of high school, the fast-paced environment of the AP program, and the collaborative skills required to succeed in classroom and club environments. The Oakville campus is beautiful for students in the GTA region with compassionate and knowledgeable teachers, resourceful Assistant Teachers (higher grade students trained to support students in a classroom environment), well-maintained classrooms, and abundant resources. The Oakville campus also runs professional and helpful programs to support students with complex concepts or assignments through Learn and Share programs with Assistant Teachers helping students with their difficulties. The staff and resources in Spirit of Math prepared and allowed me to succeed in a competitive high school environment. I would recommend Spirit of Math's Oakville to any student who wants to meet like-minded people, challenge themselves, and become ready for high school and even university.

Great services, really made me as a student feel confident and passionate about mathematics. I struggled much less during regular school, and found that SOM really offered an upper ground to school academics by providing better resources, more support and strategic teachings.

As a student the program challenged me and prepared me a year in advance for high school mathematics courses. Would recommend to any parent trying to give their child a head start in mathematics.

Spirit of Math is an amazing program. As a Spirit of Math student for 9 years, I have been able to apply the topics and skills taught to my daily school. The staff and teachers are very kind and helpful as well.

Spirit of Math has such a great and challenging atmosphere that I love! You can learn and grow as a student in a advanced setting that enables problem solving and thinking skills! I am very grateful for the learnings, amazing staff, and area!

This is an amazing learning environment for students of all grades to extend their knowledge of math. All the teachers and admin are welcoming and passionate about student success no matter their skill level.

My two kids have been attending Spirit of Math for the past four years. The program has made such a big difference in their problem solving capabilities, they can manage their time effectively and their confidence in handling their regular school work is so much better compared to the time before joining this program. The teachers at SOM are very helpful. I would like to all the teachers that give their all to make sure the kids are successful at the program.

Speaking as a student, Spirit of Math’s program challenged me enough to keep me engaged while learning math. It also really made my learning at school a much easier experience. Strongly recommend!

Amazing program! Let me be a year ahead in my high school math classes with ease! They have great teachers and staff members who are super friendly.

They told us to come back once our kid is a "High performing" student in math. You see the contradiction here?

Review is for Dorothy the principle. Teachers are awesome. Admin staff if friendly. Dorothy has been an unnecessary source of stress during a time when she shouldn't be. I would welcome a conversation with the business owners if they are so inclined to do so.

This extracurricular program is pretty good. They work hard to prepare the correct exercises for tests and for teaching children math. Preparing math curriculum and appropriate exercises for gradual learning of math takes A LOT of work. You can understand this only if you are very involved as a parent with your child's academic work and know enough math to compare the public school math curriculum with the one prepared by this school. You do need to help your children a lot if you want them to do well at Spirit of Math but that is because math is a difficult topic in itself.
They have some really good teachers. Mrs Tornifoglia is one of them. She is a five star teacher. She knows how to teach, her style is clear and concise and she loves children.
One of the twin sisters Mrs Konini is another five star kind of teacher. It is obvious that she is good at math. When you listen to her teach math you'd think it's an easy subject.
Not all their teachers are five star. I don't mean to say that they don't know math well. I am sure they do. They just are not as good at teaching it to kids and especially at managing class dynamics.
One of the previous reviewers mentioned that Spirit of Math is expensive and I agree with that. But Mathanasium is even more expensive, and finding a good math tutor is difficult and you may have to put up with a long drive to get there. Kumon does not teach advanced math because they are based on repetability rather than complexity. And private school is exorbitant. So there aren't that many affordable options out there to teach your children advanced math. So all things considered this school works well for my child and for my budget. And I think I am making an informed choice to have my child in this school since this is his fourth year of attendance, so I know what to expect.
It is really important that you help your child with homework and they do it daily. Learning math is about practicing it every day.

Question are ambiguous - not well phrased. Often more of a question of semantics, not math! Some teachers more interested in the A, B, answer; they do not teach the solution. That, is left to the parents. Definetely, not worth the money.

Excellent math enrichment for kids! If you have a child who needs good challenge to stay engaged with math, this is an excellent multi-year program!
