St. James's Gate Toronto

This place is good for standard pub food, drinks and live music. They have a back patio and a front patio. My husband, a couple of friends, a couple of family members and I enjoy coming here.

Attended a retirement party approximately 150 people. Every thing was fantastic Nice outdoor deck

Was recommended the fries by my server and they were overcooked.

Family friendly. Good for groups. Or single at the rail.watch the games.large space with rooms. Parking in front.and.back. Fast efficient staff. Irish Pub feel.

Welcome was great, at first the server was quick, taking our drink and appetizer order very fast. The appetizer took a moment to come which was the nachos but was very good. I highly suggest getting the extra cheese as in the picture I took was after the first layer was eaten, there wasn't much cheese afterwards. The service was very good overall, very attentive and helpful. My drink had way too much salt on the rim was my only issue. They did go above and beyond to ensure we got the wild cocktail we wanted and I appreciate it so much, overall a delightful experience:)

The food is great. Please try the barbecue wings. My server Sefra was over the top. She took care of our table. She has been one of the best servers I've come across. Your establishment is lucky to have a server like Sefra.

Had two bad experiences here now, won't be back. Management was nice and tried to fix issues. Serving staff is completely out to lunch.

Great Service the Guinness is amazing on tap Decent one selection as well I love the atmosphere I will definitely be back

Plusses: Great patio (especially in the back,) friendly service, free parking in front and behind. Indoor seating area has an authentic pub feel. Lots of great draft selections.

Minuses: They didn't have my original selection available. Chicken + salad with "poached pear" I ordered was really dry, boring and unremarkable. "Dressing on the side" option seemed to have been forgotten. Shared sides however of pretzels and sweet potato fries were lovely.

So I'd say come for a drink + snack and skip the meal.

All sanitary and government Covid rules seem like they are being followed.

I am fortunate to live across the street from this little neighborhood gem. The staff is always so welcoming, the beer and wine selection is well above average for the neighborhood, and the food isn’t fine dining but it’s consistently yummy. So glad they’re having live music again - only thing that would make me come even more often is a pub trivia night.:) 10/10 I love SJG!

The food I have tried here was just okay. I've had breakfast here before it was decent but nothing great. Also tried the fish and chips but it was just ok. Fish was pretty tough and very dry with little flavour. Fries were pretty good but bit too oily and soft. Coleslaw was not good at all, very bitter taste to it. I definitely would not have the fish and chips here again.

Good but not great. Even though I'm not Irish, I am British and grew up in the UK until into my thirties. I have been to many Irish pubs in the UK and St. James Gate is nothing like what I know. It ignores the real Irish fare and caters towards the Canadian public. This is understandable considering that this is Canada. But if you call yourself an Irish pub, then be an Irish pub. The fish and chips does not have chips, it has fries, and they are burnt to death and salted too much. I know what real chips are and this is not it. Get some decent cask ales too. You cannot just serve Guinness and call yourself an Irish pub. Doesn't work like that and certainly doesn't work for me. Overall a nice place to have a drink and a bite to eat. But like I say, not great.

Cute pub. Good service. Good food. We had wings, burger and beef stew. The wings were nice and meaty. Burger was juicy and flavourful, as was the stew. Server was fast and friendly. All in all a good experience.

Very disappointed with our experience, one order fish and chips, so greasy. Chicken pot pie cold in the middle, Caesar salad very ordinary. Not worth the money.

Mid day meal, mid week. Plenty of space. Nice patio and amazing food. The server were pleasent and accompanying, no rush. Nice atmosphere.

Great place with outdoor patio. Pretzels were soft, with a buttery garlic glaze. So perfect as an appetizer. Fish portion was huge on a mound of fries. Staff was great! Would come back again!

Took our mom here for a small intimate family gathering after not seeing each other for a long time due to Covid.
Even though they have a fairly limited vegetarian selections on their menu, there were enough to keep everyone happy. For the few of us that are vegetarian, we had their Zen Burgers and we ordered the Nachos and Truffle Mushroom Flatbread to share with the whole family. Nachos is huge, perfect for sharing. Personally find the vegetarian Zen Burger surprisingly good, very different from the typical veggie burgers we get elsewhere. Our mom loves Fish & Chips, especially whenever we are at a pub, that's always her choice. However, when it comes to the freshness of fish, she is extremely fussy with it and as well as critical over how the kitchen prepares it. She is like a fish freshness radar detector. Although she didn't say or complain a thing, but the fact that she only took a bite and a half of the fish and finished all the chips, that told us the fish wasn't fresh enough. Just to be sure I took a quite sniff when she was not paying attention, true enough, the unpleasant fishy smell was indeed quite strong, sadly.
One of us has the Blackened Ahi Salad, from what I could gather, it was good.
All and all we had a really nice time there. Just a few kinks they need to work out here and there, to eliminate some of the awkwardness, which is understandable, after more than a year of lockdown. Hope all would smoothen out quickly and they can be back on top of their best game soon.

The Caesar drink was good! Service was extremely slow and lackadaisical. When I was served the seared ahi tuna, there was no sauce so I asked for some-the response, 'it's on your salad'. The salad was so wilted I couldn't eat it. I had to use the sauce from my boyfriends curry (which also lacked flavour and spice), because the tuna was completely raw (I know seared is raw in centre, but this was sushi raw lol). That being said, the calamari was good and the mushroom Flatbread was incredible! If you plan to eat here, I would recommend sticking to pub classics and maybe don't go during rush hour.

Great selection of Beer, with a great menu to go with it. Plenty of patio space at the front and rear of the restaurant.

I've been here probably 25 times in the last 4 years. Food is always good, service is always good, and the beer is always cold. Highly recommend.

I have loved this place for so long and always ordered the same meals. We came in this week and my bookmakers sandwich was so dry, both roast beef and bun, that not even the gravy helped. My daughter got the Zen burger and there was some weird flavour through it that it was just not good to eat. My drink reminded me of a grade 9 concoction but the Calamari was the BEST and the fries were good which is why I still gave two stars. It sucks spending so much money on food you can’t eat.

A sort of quiet place. Some of the people who visited seemed to be regulars and not very young. Fewer selection of beers than I would like but worth a visit if you're looking for a good conversation over a beer.

We arrived at this spot for a meeting.we heard about this restaurant from a lot of people. Well, we were not disappointed.the staff were so friendly and we had a fantastic feeling. The food was just great. We enjoyed every moment and we shall absolutely come back again. Warmly recommended.

The place offers a vast range of fresh food. I love eating here. The employees are always very nice, prices are reasonable and the place is always kept clean.

I really have to commend the staff and the whole atmosphere and food here is awesome! They just returned an envelope with a large amount of cash that had dropped from my purse into their front parking lot! I’m not sure if they will see this posting but my heartfelt thanks to all of you involved. My twin grandsons thank you as well! My faith in humanity if fully restored!

Update: came back a year later and am still impressed with the friendly service and our great waitress Kyra! Fish and chips were excellent as was the mushroom flatbread. Keep up the great work!

This is my local pub. They have nitrogen gas lines for the Guinness, Kilkenny and Boddingtons which means they pour a good pint.

Food is great. Try the Nana's meatloaf or go for the Prime Rib Sunday nights. They have great special events here. I like the Robbie Burns dinner and Scotch tasting.

Speaking of Scotch, they have a large menu of whiskey including Irish and American varieties. They also have a private room for special events and a patio out front in the summer. About 12 free parking spots, 6 in front and 6 in the back but lots of cheap Green P at the back of the restaurant.

I keep going back for the perfectly poured Guinness but there are lot's of good reasons to visit including the great staff.

Great little pub with a welcoming and homey feel. I ordered a pint of Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale and it was served at a nice temperature. Server was efficient and friendly. Definitely has a Irish/English vibe.

Awesome place to hangout with friends. They have various offers each day so it's affordable if you go for the meal of the day. Staff sometimes get carried away by the crowd but they are good at what they do

This is our go to place for most family night outs, and its a short walk as well! It's a kid friendly place, great beer on tap, awesome whisky collection and the food is amazing. The staff is really friendly. Highly recommend!

St. James is a good place with good food and atmosphere.
Staff is ok, not all are great but they are not bad.
The burgers are delicious and they have a good selection of beers.

A quick walk from Kipling Station (when the construction season dies down), this little pub has some great family vibes. It's casual and clean, the dishes were definitely above decent and the wait staff was very kind and patient as I arrived late to meet a friend and scoured the menu. We sat on a fairly quiet patio, but when you went inside, you could see the place was bustling! I spoke quickly to our waitress and she made mention that the Summer is their slower time, but I have to say it didn't feel that way to me! Lots of good things to say about the warmth and atmosphere and if you're in the area with a little time to spend, it's worth the visit just to get those irish pub feels in!

Always a great Meal menu changes once in awhile but the food is always good and the service is fantastic enjoy a taste of Ireland

The breakfast is amazing and it was heaven in my mouth, and the dinner goes the same as the breakfast, the atmosphere is great and on Fridays there is jazz, 10/10.

Friendly and helpful staff. Delicious food (I highly recommend the calamari) and average prices. Atmosphere inside is surprisingly warm and authentic. There's very little parking in the front, but I believe they have plenty of room out back.

Idk the breakfast isn’t as great as people rave if you ask me. Also had some beef pie thing that was really like soup with a crust on top. Was really heavy on the herbs and I didn’t enjoy it too much. I’ve had lots of good stuff here too but I’ll stick to the negative lol

I love this place! Every time I go I'm glad I did. Their burgers are such a good value and they make one of the best steak and frites I've ever had.

Awesome food and an awesome band last Friday! St. Jame Gate is a great local Irish pub with great food and a cozy pub atmosphere. As such they're always busy on hot nights but it's still worth the wait!

Went here for a birthday celebration.

Ordered the baked brie and the pretzels, the Guinness mustard was amazing as was the rest of the food.

The Guinness itself was poured to perfection and tasted amazing from start to finish (a rare find in Canada in my experience)

The whisky selection was fantastic, as someone from Scotland who moved to Canada a year ago I was thoroughly impressed with the whisky selections and the fantastic price point for 1/2 ounce measures.

Living in Hamilton myself, I will 100% be making the trip back to Toronto to visit here again.

Great little bar with some of the best beer prices I've seen in South Ontario. The food is also very very good here, nachos are fully loaded, no regrets.

The food was really good. A properly prepared fish supper with a very good coleslaw on the side. The fish tacos were credible enough this far from San Diego. The atmosphere is great. It reminded me of a pub right on the River Ness except I would have got my Tennant's there. My only real complaint.
The service was also good. Attentive and helpful but not overly solicitous.
I will definitely go again and hope they have Tennant's.

We were there during earth hour, it was amazing, and I'd definitely go back again. The food was delicious, decently priced, and they have summersby on tap! I can't wait to go back again.
