Sunset Grill

Oh boy, where do I start? The Sunset Grill at Yonge/Richmond is a hard pass. I've been to this joint three times, and each visit was a one-way ticket to Disappointmentville. Even tried ringing up the corporate bigwigs, but got zilch.

This last visit was the icing on the stale cake. The scrambled eggs seemed like leftovers from a bygone era, and when I asked for some cheese mixed in, they said they could only sprinkle it on top. Freshly made? Nope!

The pancake was a whole other level of blah. It had zero taste and fluff, felt like I was gnawing on a foam pad.

Now, the only saving grace was the waitress, who was a lot nicer and attentive this time around. But man, you could see she was overworked and underpaid, just like the rest, except others didn’t bother hiding it.

Flashback to a previous visit - the bacon was cold and dry, like it was yanked out of the fridge and tossed onto my plate after a couple of hours. And don’t get me started on the hot sauce, or the lack thereof.

Their home fries are a saga of culinary chaos. You get a mix of undercooked and burnt bits, like they can't decide how they want to ruin potatoes.

If you've got any other option, even a Tim Hortons or McDs around the corner, you're better off there. I've checked out other Sunset Grill spots and they were decent, so what’s the deal with this one? It’s like the black hole of breakfast places.

In short, if you’re in the mood for a good breakfast, look elsewhere. This place? Avoid at all cost.

The breakfast was wonderful. Our server was this experienced woman (can't remember name), she was wonderful. Just the right amount of small talk. Amazing value for money, and the ambiance was pretty good too.

This was the single worst experience I've had eating here, I was pretty shocked. I was excited to come here because I used to go to the Wellington location before the pandemic and they had some of the best pancakes.

First, I was greeted by a hostile and unwelcoming waitress this morning (more about her later).

I ordered the $4.99 breakfast promo. However, it didn't come with any meat like the pictures and menu said online, which was hugely disappointing. I didn't want to make a fuss so I just ate whatever came on the plate - potatoes, eggs, and toast. The potatoes were INEDIBLE. They were so overly salted it felt like I was munching on warm sand. It was easily the worst potatoes I've ever eaten at any breakfast joint. I've had better at roadside motels. It was that bad.

I finished eating. I hadn't taken two sips two sips of water yet before the waitress, in a hostile mood, rushes me with the bill. She hovers over me as I put in my tip. I put in an overly generous tip given the atrocious potatoes and service but I didn't want to make a fuss given how unresponsive, hostile and unwelcoming the waitress' mood was during my entire meal.

Just an FYI- this will be the last time I tip this much if your misleading promo, meal and service are as atrocious as this morning's.

I regret not having paid a bit more to get breakfast at Denny's or Harvey's.

Thought It Would Be Great To Hit The Patio On A Beautiful Sunday Morning, Only To Wait In Line, Have Orders Taken And Then Begin Eating Breakfast 1.5 Hours After My Initial Arrival. 3 Stars Based On Customer Service And Experience. Patio Is Inadequately Staffed, Having 2-3 Servers Taking On 15+ Tables With Minimum 1-2 Customers Per Table. Although The Patio View Is Beautiful And Located Right On The Side Walk, Which Created A Bit Of An Uncomfortable Environment As Your Having Breakfast, Random Pedestrians, Animals, Pets, Birds, Etc. Are Within' The Surrounding Vicinity And Are Walking Right Past You As Your Eating. No Complaints On The Food, Fresh And Well Prepared And Was Definitely Worth The Price And Experience. Recommendations - If The Patio Could Be More Private, This Would Be The Ultimate Breakfast Dining Experience Considering The Location And View Are Prime. Will Be Back Soon, Hoping We Can Turn This 3 Stars Into A Solid 5.

Waiter forgot to take my order, when he took the menu from the table, I thought I was going looney bim, minutes later I asked him if he forgot me, he apologized profusely, I forgave him, then he took my order and told me he will put a rush on it. Yes he did but the home fries were too salt. But it's ok, even machines make mistakes, I will Go back again, not bad overall

I've been meeting friends here for years to enjoy their breakfast menu. I've never been disappointed, reasonable prices and very good portions. Friendly staff and an excellent attentive manner. Love this place.

I have to edit this five star review to one star. I brought my partner here because I had a good experience with the steak, which I put down a five star before. I talked to my partner about sunset grill and how it’s steak different from other comparable restaurants such as Denny’s and ihop. But I was really disappointed and regretted bringing my partner here. Today’s steak is thin and tastes plain. I asked for the same item and same medium cooking, but I got a totally different dish. You really want to work on your serving consistency.

Great service and food. I did not expect to enjoy a real steak at 7am in the morning! Great value, highly recommended!

Don’t get me wrong. It’s a decent franchise and enjoy going there every one and then. But this location kind of let me down. Not only was the wait long but I asked for no fries and they forgot to comply. When asked for it, they brought me two slices of a tomato instead. Seriously? Two slices of tomato instead of all that fries? I ended up trying some of the fries but they were soooo salty I couldn’t eat more than a few. The omelette, though, was decent. Came looking for breakfast and found a treasure trove of taste. Service is quick and courteous. A beautiful pairing with such tasty delights.

Food was mediocre, service was terrible. Server was curt and acted like she was doing me a favour by serving me. I will not be going again to any Sunset Grill franchise, because it's clear they don't train their staff properly in etiquette and how to serve people.

Le Guacamole Sanswich est promu avec une bonne quantité d’avocat alors que ce qui nous a était servie était complètement ridicule comparé à l’image de la pub.
L’avocat ne se goûtait pas du tout.

Le sandwich se dit servi avec crudités pour 2$ de plus. Nous avons bien ris quand on a reçu la carotte coupée en deux.

4/4 des sandwichs étaient secs.

Qualité / prix: raisonnable

Aucune intimité dans les salles de bain.
2 énormes espaces entre les partitions de la toilette des hommes.

Recently visited Toronto and had to visit a Sunset Grill for breakfast. We were very pleased with the fast service and great good. Our server Wayne was great. Even during the rain on the patio, he was taking care of us.

Amazing staff and food! During COVID this has been one of my go-to places, and the food never disappoints. Can't decide on a favourite dish because each one has been incredible. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful.highly recommend!

Great service, great food. I ordered 3 eggs with bacon and toast; my wife ordered the ‘for a limited time’ crab cakes. Both were great. Coffee was bottomless and good. The only thing left on the plate was the asparagus that came with the crab cakes; would’ve lost a star but everything else was so good, will let it slide ;)

Great establishment and even better people. Such warm hospitality during these trying times, I would recommend everyone to come and eat here! Also huge shoutout to Peter for lending a helping hand to my friend the other day, he is a true gem!

Great clean food. Order Greek salad with breast of chicken on top. You will be full tastes great. Clean Energy in your system. No junk food.:) and reasonable prices.:)

Amazing experience at this Sunset Grill location! The home fries are off the charts. Peter was fantastic and I 100% would recommend!

Food was amazing! I tried their sunset breakfast sandwich with peam bacon. The staff was very polite. I strongly recommend this place.

Great little spot downtown, not a greasy spot, and has outdoor seating. The meatlovers omelet is a perfect dish for a hungry guy. Enjoy

It was hard to find a decent breakfast place with a lot of the shops being shutdown during COVID, but this place was still going. The service was great and the food was ok. Not 5 stars because much to my chagrin my omelette had that cheap pre-shredded dried out cheese that just strings up to a length of 3 feet every time you try and take a bite. Buy better cheese! When i make omelettes at home i don't have this problem so why should I when going out and paying $15 / omelette.

Good food. Service was good little slow on the coffee but when it did come in was hot. Will return to this location when we are back in the City.
