The worst place to buy from.i bought a mattress from them 4 months ago and the pain that we get me and my wife every morning is insane.our back start hurting from the curves of the mattress that i purchased for almost 800 dollars. It made us feel like we are elders.
It is too late for me to do anything specially when i cannot afford another one.but at least i let the people know to not make the same mistake.

Initially, my experience with your store left me with a positive impression, particularly in regard to the courteous behavior of your staff and their willingness to accommodate changes in our delivery schedule.

However, my satisfaction quickly turned into disappointment and frustration due to a regrettable incident during the delivery of my purchased items. Upon reviewing my invoice, I was surprised to find that the sofa, which I had explicitly selected and paid for, was inexplicably missing from the list of items scheduled for delivery. This was perplexing, as the purchase of the sofa was a pivotal part of our initial shopping plan.

In response to this unexpected situation, my husband and I visited your store in person seeking clarification and resolution. Unfortunately, the behavior of your staff on this occasion was markedly different from our previous encounters. We were met with raised voices and a discourteous attitude, which was disheartening considering our prior positive interactions with your team. Despite the circumstances, we felt compelled to repurchase the sofa, paying for it in cash, as it was essential for our living arrangements. Although we were informed of a supposed discount, the unplanned expense of an additional $1500 significantly exceeded our budget, causing us undue financial strain.

When we proposed the idea of returning some of the other purchased items to mitigate this unforeseen cost, we were informed that this was not permissible and that there was no established refund process in place. This lack of flexibility and understanding only added to our growing dissatisfaction.

I am writing to request a clear and detailed response to address these concerns and rectify the situation. This unfortunate incident has left a lasting negative impression on our experience with your establishment, and I believe it is essential to find a satisfactory resolution.

I kindly ask that you investigate this matter thoroughly and provide a prompt response outlining the steps you intend to take to rectify the situation and prevent such occurrences in the future. Clear communication and a swift resolution to this matter would be greatly apprecited

Today we got all what we need, quick and easy, a full bedroom set, a mattress, a nice sectional couch and a nice coffee table, and they threw us a very nice rag for free.
All that with an outstanding customer service by Jeff N, who was very helpful patient, and detailed with his answers about all our questions, and in helping us to find good deals and to finalize everything in a very quick time.
With a help of his senior coworker Doug M, who was also very nice and collaborative with us and Jeff

And guess what, you can pick up any day to get them delivered and brought to your house/apartment only for $85

You better give this place a shot if your looking for a good quality with affordable price and perfect customer service.

They delivered a couch with 4 missed legs and 2 missed cushion, they misinformed me that Flexiti financing does soft hit check while they did hard hit and dropped my credit score. Awful service and untrustworthy staff.

Read reviews before ordering!

This store is fraud. They offer delivery and when there is an issue they say the delivery is a different company and they are not responsible. They stole my money for delivery. And never refund.
Delivery never gets to you on promised time.
I saw other people have same experience too. My bad I didn’t read review before buying from them.

It’s complete fraud. Bad service when you have a problem and even if you know the name of the person who spoke to you they say they were not working that day.

And if we have problem call to a custom service line where no one answers the phone. And no one claims to be the manager at this location. Every person I spoke to is not responsible for anything.

Fraud…. Fraud… Fraud….

I was very happy with my new couch right before the Christmas holidays! Jeff was a pleasure to work with and he was very patient and made sure our whole purchase went smoothly. We will definitely purchase more furniture from them in the future.

The only complaint I have is not about Jeff but about some older guy who was working behind the counter. There was a disagreement about something to do with the receipt or something. The older guy was very disrespectful to Jeff right in front of us which as a human is really not cool, but as a customer it is so unprofessional. The old guy could have kept his cool and explained calmly after we left. Not pleasant at all to see a young guy trying to make a living get disrespected at the workplace.

Anyways I don’t want to let that incident cloud our experience. I would recommend this place a thousand times over as they are quick, efficient, and friendly.

The staff at Surplus Furniture & Mattress Warehouse in Ottawa are awesome! Salesman, Jeff, was personable, friendly and helpful and made the experience pleasant and easy. I purchased an area rug, coffee table, end tables and lamp. They were much nicer than more expensive items at other stores. The prices were surprisingly low and the quality excellent! Highly recommend!

Not worth the trouble, very untrustworthy.

First of all, pushy staff and the man who sold us our furniture was speaking quickly and throwing numbers around, it was confusing.

Then they overcharged us by almost $500.00. We called to complain and they told us that the problem would somehow fix itself.

We drove down the next day and made sure they refunded the overcharge to our Flexiti account.

Now our monthly payments are much higher than we were told they would be. We won't be paying as long but we agreed to an 18 month plan.

Our delivery day was awful as well. They called to say it would be delivered between 11am and 6pm. We cleared a space and prepared for them to arrive. At 5: 45pm we called to confirm that we should expect a delivery that day and they seemed annoyed that we called and confirmed it would be a little late. We gave up at 9: 00pm and got ready for bed.

They called us at 9: 45pm and said the delivery was 5 minutes away! We ended up receiving our order at 10: 00pm! Ridiculous, who delivers furniture that late and 4 hours after we were told it would be here? No updates from them either.

If you buy from this place, check your statement VERY carefully. For all I know, this was a mistake but I don't trust them anymore. They barely apologized. It makes me wonder how many people have been overcharged and not noticed. CHECK YOUR STATEMENTS!

I was pleasantly surprised to know that Ottawa had this store. As most of their customers, I got to know about it through word of mouth. They are great, and the selection is amazing. I was specifically looking for coffee tables and dining set, and they are great. Ryan is super helpful, and their warehouse staff is quick and intelligent. I would definitely recommend this store to everyone, if you’re looking for something different than IKEA furniture.

I've bought stuff from here 3 years ago and the furniture is still in wonderful condition. Today I went to dufrense on cyrville and they were selling the same couches I bought 3 years ago for triple the price. Highly worth stopping in as they don't have a middle man. They get their stuff from the supplier and bring it directly to the shop. Customer service was wonderful and very friendly. Highly recommend.

TERRIBLE WORKERS AND TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Was looking to buy furniture and decided to buy a couch from this spot. Immediately the workers gave me a hard time with a terrible attitude and not wanting to help me out. I then asked for their manager named Ryan and he was even worse than the employees, being very fussy with me and even cursing at me just cause i wanted to look at different couch models.

Terrible, terrible service and quality. Spent hours working with someone trying to furnish our new home. He would try to cheat me by adding things I did not want or ask to see, including the scam of a protection plan. This all happened in front of the manager, Ryan, who did not say anything. The items I chose added up to about $3,000, but the employee rang everything up to $5,000.
When they arrived, they were worse quality than the floor models. I spoke to Ryan, who told us to come to talk about exchanging it. We drove 40 minutes and stood around waiting for someone to help us. Ryan (and the employee who had helped us initially) ignored us for about 30 minutes until we asked for help. He was very rude and cold with us, almost yelling at us.

Avoid this store at all costs. The employees will try to scam you, are rude, and their furniture is cheap quality.

Fantastic experience from start to finish. Went there in the morning with the intent to purchase two sofas and had them delivered the same afternoon. Stacy delivered outstanding customer service. She was not pushy at all and was friendly, personable and knowledgeable about the products. She remained patient with us throughout the purchasing process as we changed our mind multiple times.
Enjoyable experience with excellent prices for quality products - would recommend 10/10

I bought items for my home and had a bed delivered without the rail. When I called for the missing part which I was not informed initially, the store keepers started posting fingers at each other. Worst of it one of them who called him self the store manager with no clue of customer relation told me I was rude asking for a delivery date of a missing part I paid in full. Two weeks now after full payment no word from the store. Wait for the third week and I will start calling name to avoid when you visit that store: (

Spent over an hour looking for the perfect sofa but didn’t find one that met my tight delivery schedule. However, George was one of the best sales people I’ve ever worked with. I’d go back in a heartbeat because they’re all about customer service. They never make you feel pressured to buy. Excellent sales staff an excellent store. Highly recommend!

Honestly, George could probably sell me anything He has incredible energy, sense of humour and infectious enthusiasm. He was super attentive to what my girlfriend and I were looking for and gave us an incredible deal to top it off. I would go back just for the customer service- AMAZING.

Would not recommend purchasing the warranty they offer or their products. We purchased a sofa and love seat package here as well as the VIP Pet Warranty. We were told that this would cover any damage to the couch including wear and tear and if a pet ruined it. When we submitted a claim through the warranty because the seams of the couch were tearing after not much use we were told that this was not covered under the warranty.

After following up with the company who provides the warranty and not getting any answers we followed up with Surplus Furniture. After submitting proof of purchase and images of the damage, I received a response from the manager stating that he would get back to me the following week. After not hearing back I followed up and did not receive a response, after reaching out to the president I received a response that they would repair the couches. I have followed up to get a date and no one has gotten back to me. It has been a month of back and forth to get no where and is frustrating considering we purchased the extended warranty. Very poor customer service.

After a long distance move, sometimes things can get chaotic and not everything goes according to plan.but in the case of choosing Surplus for our furniture needs.nothing could be further from that scenario.especially with our dealings with your sales rep George! He was 100% outstanding and made us feel right at home.
We arrived at opening, and George greeted us with a wonderful smile and welcomed us in to the warehouse. He was so comfortable in engaging the conversation and was genuinely interested in the career path my daughter had chosen for the fall - fire fighting. Our goal was to purchase a queen mattress set, and he asked the appropriate questions, was never trying to "sell up", instead gave us several options to allow us to make the decision. We were completely satisfied with his service, and the service of the delivery crew. Incredibly, we purchased the mattress at 10: 00am, and it was delivered before noon!
George has certainly made an impression on me, enough so, that I will put them at the top of my list for future furniture purchases.
Thanks George for your stellar service and we look forward to seeing you again.

Poor management lead to headaches
attempting to return a manufacture defect.

Alyssa needs an attitude check and Ryan was relatively useless despite staying somewhat professional.
George and the loading Staff were lovely!
George went above and beyond to correct an unpleasant experience. Huge kudos to him!

I'd strongly suggest restructuring your team.

Every aspect of my experience was great! I spoke to a patient lady first who helped me select the appropriate mattress set to suit my needs. Then to finish transaction George was amazing. I bought a bedroom set from that place. It's the worst purchase I ever made. The bed frame has a crack it looks like it's used. I want to return the whole thing and get my money back. The quality is very poor. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THAT PLACE TO ANYONE.

If there was 0 stars, I would give surplus 0stars.they are scam, they sell 0 quality furniture, wood, leather.we bought our furniture with warranty and in less than 1year, it ripped.after going through the process of showing them where the furnitures ripped, they denied the replacement. I would not recommend this place.

We have been shopping for furniture for almost a year now, while waiting for our house. We have seen so many sales, real ones and fake ones. My wife and I came to this place after a friend told us about it, we have been all over the city looking for the best quality, price and availability. The GPS brings you behind, the building, by the Timmys and burger king, Drive around, there is road that goes around.

Few things to mention bases on what we have found out:

1) This place caters to high-mid to low income families, if you are expecting Mennonite, or custom made furniture for the prices they offer, use your commons sense. We went to places where for the price of 1 sofa, at surplus furniture we could furnish our whole house. They have really good quality pieces, and they also have super basic student pieces, made of mdf, or particle wood.we quickly realized, that if we wanted something that last, we needed to be looking at the Canadian made items, or brand names like Ashley.

2) They do not have their own delivery service, they contract a third party moving company, which the only drop off the furniture at the front door of our place, the sales guy, George, explained this to us, we found it a bit odd, but with everything going on, I guess its okay, my wife and I were capable of bringing the items in our selves. And they only take cash.

3) They do sell an extended warranty, which I called to make sure its not a scam or we would not get the run around should anything happen. We found out there is an easier way of submitting your claim, ONLINE!

Anyways I'm sure there is lots my wife can say, your not hear to read a novel. The service was GREAT, we felt welcomed and not pushed, the delivery time was also good, and the price we paid was fair.

We would recommend this place to anyone looking for something good, for a reasonable price.

They go out of their way to make you feel important and give you what you want and need. The store is not big like others but you won't get this kind of service and greeting elsewere. A friend had recommended this store for affordable mattresses. Thry were right. I had 4 mattresses to buy for the cottage and didn't want to break the bank. While I was there I also picked up a top quality mattress for my house, and it was way cheaper than going to a mattress store. On top of it all, they knocked off more money, and since they ran out of one model, thry offered an upgrade for the same price. Service was amazing. I will definitely be going back.

Service was fine but I bought a "leather" durablend sectional in 2017 and all of the leather is peeling off like saran wrap. I admit I didn't buy any of the leather saving products they tried to sell me but at approx $1800 for a sectional to last 3 years isn't great. I also had to return a coffee table that was defective and although they were ok with the return we opened about 7 boxes of the same table while there to find one that wasn't damaged. I am still using that table though so not a total loss but it was a strange experience. Just be cautious

I've gotten a sectional, bunk bed, loveseat and couch all from here in the past 3 years! Doug is our go-to salesperson as he is super knowledgeable, nice, and helpful! All are still in great condition to this day, which shows the quality of the furniture. We will go back again for our next room re-decorating.

Bought a mattress Ryan was awesome. It was delivered on porch in rain no plastic. Neiboours saved it and brought to my room for me so I never was able to see the name and brand as the ft brd hid it. Less than three months a whole side caves in. Ryan again great just bring in and exchange he has already put my mattress and box away ready for just quick exchange.
Now the problem is with the store manager. Ryan was making this right and now the manager has caused me to contact my mp. The mattress said simmons sterling. I ordered the Serengeti with cool gel memory foal at a much higher price than thid hard stiff error.
The manager still refused to exchange the mattress for the correct model I paid a much higher price for. Even if the exchange due to store error sending wrong model manufacturers defect in the return is the store’s issue. They need to be responsible for giving the customer what they paid a large price difference in. That is store error and exchange should not be an argument then sent away to have the manufacturer send the right model. No they send replica of defective and then I have to bring the new one for exchange of my much higher priced one. Make any sense anyone. This is a damn store error and head office and ombudsman will be contacted

Super disappointed. Brought a friend here to buy a mattress as I had bought some furniture from here 3 years ago. Looked around for 15 minutes without a single one of the 3 associates asking if we needed help. We ended up going and asking for assistance but were immediately shot down, quite rudely, by a male associate. Shortly after we were informed someone would be along to help us. We watched 2 associates behind the counter mingle with each other and not really do anything. We sat there for another 15 minutes and finally the guy told his coworker that she should probably help us. The woman was kind of pushy, not very friendly and not very helpful. We left pretty much right away and took our business elsewhere. Quite disappointed in the rudeness of the staff and the fact that we waited over 30 minutes just to be spoken down to! Last time I come here and I wont be recommending it anymore.

My boyfriend and I have recently moved into a home together for the first time and we were really needing furniture since we had no furniture for our new home. In June we decided to go here to find a couch, ended up finding one we loved, and was told it would be back in stock the first week of July (which was perfect since we moved into our place the first week of July). Although the initial service we had received was great, the service since then has been far from helpful. It is now August and we still have not received a call saying that our couch has come in, and any time we call we either don't get an answer or they tell us they have no information when our couch will be coming into stock. We had already paid half of the amount for the couch and when calling to ask if they have any options for us, no one answers the phone. Very disappointed with the service thus far. No one seems to have any answers as to where our couch is.
Would not recommend you purchase anything here that isn't in stock in their warehouse upon arrival.

Went to look at couches and loveseats today (August 30,2019), was met by a very pleasant woman named Stacie. It took less than 30 minutes and the couch I purchased - which had an excellent price and warranty - was sold and set up for delivery. Stacie is a great employee, super friendly, very helpful and efficient.

Bought 2 couches and 3 tables 2 years ago, and they squeak and padding is compressed, table is shaking and top is peeling. You get what you pay for. Save yourself a hassle, go somewhere else and pay a little more.
