What happened here? We’ve been a regular here for few years but noticed the sashimi is significantly thinner and the tempura sauce is different. Based on recent reviews it seems like we’re not the only ones that noticed this.
The food is great, especially for the price you pay. Is it the best sushi place? No. But it is AMAZING bang for buck. And I find that their price is consistently competitive, despite other sushi places nearby raising the prices by quite a lot over the years.
The sushi bong special is my go-to (I really like their special California roll which has pieces of salmon and egg), and their spicy salmon roll has a really nice Korean twist to it, and their Dynamite Roll was... Massive. The other rolls are pretty good for the price as well.
The food is absolutely amazing but they’re always extremely busy and there’s barely any place to sit so you have to get take out. Definitely recommend calling in and then picking up your order because it saves them time. They don’t have many vegetarian options as well.
Sushi Bong used to be our go-to sushi spot. Since then, the quality has slowly gone downhill but we order sometimes bc it's convenient.
This time, I ordered the Sushi Bong Special. While the other pieces were okay (which is why I gave it another star), the rolls in the picture had the WORST pieces of raw salmon I've ever had in my life. I was so disappointed that they would serve inedible odds and ends of salmon that were so hard to chew and tasted horrible.
I never leave bad reviews, and I love supporting local businesses, but this was SO bad! Will not be ordering from there anytime soon.
Had the green dragon, wasn't bad and reasonably priced, considering the amount of food you get.
What I didn't like, debit/cash only. They give you 1 pack of soy sauce, a small amount of wasabi, the roll is SOOO big it doesn't fit in your mouth and you can't bite it, because it obviously falls apart.it is likely just the specialty rolls that are this big.
I would go back, however, I would just ask for extra soy, wasabi and order a smaller roll and would then give it a 4.
At first, you look and the food looks great. You get a lot in terms of quantity for the sushi bong special but when you taste it, it’s just okay. The roll is way too big and too much cucumber.
We have been a customer of Bong sushi for almost two years, and it has always been our to go place when we crave sushi. Unfortunately, the quality has significantly dropped for the past six months. The rice is not fresh, and that causes the rolls to open up as soon we take a piece. The tuna roll is simply terrible, and nobody ate it the last two times that we ordered. I definitely will not order again from bong sushi.
I ordered a California roll and there was a piece of plastic in the food. It was very sharp and if I swallowed this, I might have been hurt. I called them but they just told me to ask Uber. I will never order again.
I enjoyed Sushi Bong located in Shops of Yonge, so I wanted to give this place a try, but ended up fairly disappointed with this one.
I ordered also the unagi roll that is not in the picture. That roll was fine, hence the 3 stars, but the Sushi Bong special was off. All the rolls smelled 'off', the fish had a slightly pungent odour. The rice tasted like it was on the brink of going bad. It was dry too. I got the order and ate it within 10 minutes as my destination was near.
Looks weren't appealing also as you can see. It looked like it was made in a rush.
For the value, can’t be beat. Decent sushi and sashimi quality for really good price. However, some things to take note of. Only cash or debit allowed and no tap function so you will have to touch the POS. Also, if using debit there is a 15 cent surcharge which they don’t divulge beforehand.
By far my favourite sushi joint. I have been going here for the past 12 years or so. Although I no longer live in the area I still head over at least once every 2 weeks - but when I lived within 10 minutes I would go a few times a week.
I've tried dozens of other sushi places over the years and I still think Sushi Bong is the best.
The rolls are absolutely huge!
The prices are great and have gone up very little over the years.
The food is always fresh and definitely at its best if eaten shortly after it's made. I feel this way about all sushi, but at some places you'll get your order and it tastes like it's already been sitting for half an hour, this is not the case here.
They use actual wasabi, not green horseradish. I know the horseradish thing is not that common with sushi places but it definitely happens and always ruins the entire meal for me.
Staff are super friendly and always remember me, even over the phone.
The go-to for my girlfriend and I is: Sushi Bong special, add avocado to the included Salmon roll Dynamite roll Sushi combo B. This is an insane amount of food for two people and always leaves us both completely stuffed for less than $20 per person.
I ordered a medium party combo ($58 for 67 pieces) and the service was quick (under 15 mins). The sashimi was good and the rolls had a lot of filling. The food is good for it's price. I would recommend this place for budget friendly sushi.
The place is always busy but moves very quickly. Personally not a fan of sushi with egg inside, but that’s a personal taste preference! Fish is fresh! Rice is cooked well.
My favourite place for decent priced sushi rolls. My go to are the spicy salmon roll, sweet potato tempura with avocado roll and the nigiri that comes in the sushi set. It was a nice surprise to find salmon in the California rolls. The dynamite roll is delicious as well. The rolls are huge and worth it. The staff is always quick and efficient, never have to wait long.
If I'm in the mood for a quick sushi fix, this will always be my go to. The dynamitt rolls are huge and is super filling for one person. High recommended.
If I could give ZERO I would. Do not do this. Extremely unaccommodating to my sons allergies even though called 3 times before placing my order. When walked in could tell they were cussing under breath. Worse of all 3 out of 5 of us got severe stomach aches which NEVER happened anywhere. We have eaten sushi as a family all over the world and never felt this sick. Horrible value, horrible service. And quite racist, guess my money will never be there again. Shame on them!
Awesome little place! So happy to find a sushi place where the food tastes fresh every visit and is consistent! Definitely our go to sushi spot from here on!
Probably the worst sushi I have ever had. No flavor, super thin fish slices, I ordered 2 different rolls and they tasted the same.no flavor. The rolls looks really unappetizing. I couldn't finish my food. Very disappointed.
I ordered the sushi Bong special and a Bong's Sashimi and both was very subpar. My sushi rice was falling all over the place and was hard. The sashimi was cold, and not just cold, almost frozen. My butter fish tasted almost limr soft ice-cream. However, they are very cheap so that might be it. You pay for quality with sushi I guess.
Service is average. Freshness is great but the rolls had too much cucumber. In addition they only accept cash or debit which is not convenient.in addition for debit they add other charges to the payment.very annoying.overall the price is okay and the quality is average but the taste isn't worth the drive. Not sure if Ill try it again.
One of my favorite sushi places in Toronto for affordable sushi. Amazing portions for what you pay for and the fish is always fresh. I would recommend calling in to order before arriving at the store as it does get quite busy.
The spicy tuna rolls were very mediocre (only tuna, no avocado or cucumber or anything else, barely any spicy at all, also not spicy Mayo, just a touch of sriracha it seems) but the sashimi was very good quality for the price.
Favourite takeout sushi! The staff are great and so efficient. We love that the sushi has a bit of a korean flare and flavour to it. Big portions. Unbeatable value.
Both dine in and takeout available. Has about 4 seats. Takeout is great. Average quality sushi at a fair price. Sushi, sashimi and rolls are great. Udon, not so much.
One of the most honest pricing and best tasting sushi. The sashimi is super fresh, but I do recommend you to always get takeout. There isn't much room inside to sit, and not much parking. Aside from that, it's one of my favourite places to eat.
Homey vibe, really generous portions, fresh and flavorful, really fair pricing! Remeber to use the washroom before hand though as they dont have one inhouse
This is an institution! The best bang for buck sushi you can buy in the city. The value is incredible because everything is made fresh right before you and they don't skimp out on quality of their ingredients. Dynamite roll is a go to for me here.
This is one of my favourite places in the world. The sushi bong special is some of the best sushi I've had and it has ridiculous value. You get 18 pieces for $12 and they're quite large.
This is my favourite place to get take-out sushi in the whole city. I honestly don't know how this place survives because it is the most affordable a la carte sushi place you can go to that's the most worth your buck. Portions and rolls are huge, service is fast. Not typically done as a sit-in restaurant - they only have about 4 seats available in their tiny shop so I always do take-out. The quality is quite high, given the price you're paying. Would recommend to anyone!
This is a small sushi joint that's focused on take out rather then sit in. Great portion and good price. The downside is the phone is rarely answered and the line up is long (but that's not really a bad thing considering the quality of food and the customer they get)
Small sushi shop Huge dynamite roll Very reasonably priced. The fact the this price exist in North York surprises me. I have been a loyal customer for over 6years. That alone says a lot.
It’s not the best tasting sushi, it’s not the best interior, and it may not be the cleanest but for the price and what you get it’s worth it. Get the sushi bong special and eat it in the car.
This restaurant really takes you back in time. What's amazing about this place as a whole is, with minimal space, they make excellent fresh sushi. It's really about the food here! Sushi was great, tasted extremely fresh. Everything is cut and prepared right there and then. So you're able to see the process of it in the back. They really only have 2 tables, but if you choose to wait, worth the experience!
