Sushi Mountain

It was my first time trying sushi. Even though the food was not bad, the service definitely needs improvement.
I'm new in Canada and from where I come, tips are not a custom and since I'm an International student, I'm always on a tight budget. After we were done with food and paid for it, the server asked us to show him the original bill (which my friend had in pocket). He compared it to the receipt from the card machine and told, "The next time you come here you have to tip, I'm letting it go this time because I think you're new in Canada and you don't know", it was pretty funny. But still found it really weird and annoying for them to be calling us out like that for not tipping.

I love this place and it’s the go to for me and my friends. I got my family and friends to come here because it’s so good. The price is so good and we always get acye. Best sushi place in whitby imo. Never ever had a bad experience here

Been coming here for over 15 years now. Always been consistent with good staff and legendary music. Definitely worth trying if you have never been.

The sushi was acceptable. The sushi portions are bigger than most so expect about 0.5" inches in size.

Understand that tipping is not mandatory, it's customary. The older lady with the blonde highlights confronted us on tipping when it was completely inadequate service.

One of the waitresses told us we had to finish everything we ordered or there will be an additional charge unprompted. Completely unprofessional from both staff members.

It's a Chinese owned Japanese sushi restaurant. This restaurant gives other Chinese owned Japanese sushi a bad reputation.

I would not attend this restaurant again unless you want the staff to haggle for an additional tip.

This was my first time at Sushi Mountain and for %98 percent of the meal I was very impressed, food was very fresh, service was prompt and food tasted good over all however in saying that I will never come back to Sushi Mountain again and the reason why is because when I went to pay, I left a $5 tip and when the server saw the tip she said "was there something wrong with my service? " And I replied "no, not at all" and she said "then why only $5? " To me this was an extremely rude thing to ever say to a Customer. I manage multiple Delivery Drivers at my job and if a Customer ever told me that one of Drivers asked them for a Tip or more of a Tip I would make sure thay Driver was seriously reprimanded for it.

Not a regular sushi person but the food was good. Did not realize I was all you can eat only. Better to call ahead to reserve as fitting our walk-in party of 6 was tight.

Extremely RUDE servers. They don’t speak to you the entire time, no conversation, only yes or no. No smile on their face, and try to rush you out of the restaurant. We felt that the experience was terrible and just paid for the food with no tip because of this. The server then came to the table as we were leaving complaining about no tip. We are university students and would have tipped if we felt the service deserved a tip. Tipping is no longer necessary! Canadian servers now make minimum wage! If you had been polite and kind, we would have gladly tipped you anyways! Never going back.

If I could put no stars that would be preferable. Absolutely one million percent will never return and will ensure that my family and friends know of my experience.

The window as to which I was placed beside was covered in glass and I cut my hand because it was not properly cleaned up. The servers were RIDICULOUSLY rude! No respect at all. I was unhappy with my service and still tipped. The WAITRESS came back and complained accused me of not tipping when I did tip$5.92 which brought up my bill to 85$. Waiters/waitresses make mineral wage now which is $15-$17 an hour. You’re not really obligated to type sincere not underpaid anymore in my opinion so they should be even lucky to get a tip from you wanted to cost you $36 all you can eat for dinner.

Gluten friendly, I was able to have my chicken fried rice and spicy crab meat rolls made without gluten. Staff are very friendly and food is fresh and delicious.:)

Perfect sushi and the quality has been consistent since I first started coming here 11 years ago! Best miso soup in GTA - so rich in flavour, it warms up your heart. Amazing sushi all around!

Great spot for lunch, the service is friendly and fast. Food amazing. If it were bigger it would be 5 stars as sometimes getting a table is hard. But that shows how good their food is.

Absolute worst ayce experience. After we ordered the first round, we finished all food except some of the tempura fried hand rolls because they were extremely greasy and pretty poorly made. They wouldnt let us order next round until we finished those too. We kindly explained to staff, that it wasnt upto standard in taste and we will not eat it. But the staff rudely kept pushing back on us like a parent: you have to finish it. Then i had to be rude back and tell them that it was absolutely disgusting to eat and I will not eat this horrible food. They kept saying that they will charge us for it and we said it was okay. Thats the norm in most ayce places and we get it. A few minutes later, the same thing happened at another table as well. The staff are incompetent and unable to accept criticism about their food.

Went near closing and got the le crate menu. Recommend not to come within 35 mins of closing for a quick run for food. Gave me a hard time saying it’s late and felt rushed. My friend was only 1 mins away on car and said if he isn’t here, we won’t be seated. We ended up finished eating with 20 mins and with time to spare. Not sure why rush someone when you close at 10 but someone comes before 930.

We had a group of 8 adults and 2 children. They were very accommodating and even altered the chopsticks to make them easier for the kids. The food was quick and good. Always a great time!

Not a very broad menu for sushi, but food is fresh and amazing. As long as the food is good, I don’t care how big of a menu they have

Great value for the quality of food. Service is incredibly quick as well. Atmosphere is dated and location is a tad small to what I'm used to. Careful about leftover, even 4 pieces of rice is an overcharge despite their servings being abnormally large for AYCE.

Love this place! The food is outstanding, the service is efficient and friendly. It’s always busy and somehow we’ve never had to wait. There isn’t much more I can say except if you like sushi this is the place to check out!

A nice and cozy sushi restaurant, friendly and helpful staff, Fresh and delicious food, A bit pricey.

Sushi was very bland the colours were a little off, especially the salmon. Excessive amount of tempura used to fill us up to a point where you can’t really enjoy it. The bright side is the variety of things on the menu to choose from

The men making the sushi were not clean at ALL. Coughing/hacking on the food and sitting around on phones.

I at times had a lady (one of the servers) starving at me. She would not stop and it was unsettling.

As well, note: it says it closes at 10, they brought the machine to me at 9: 15pm.

Busy because of the high quality food with a reasonable price. Service are always good. The place to solve sushi problems in town.

Staff are great, friendly and quick to bring out orders. Best sushi around for all you can eat!
