My birthday was today and i had an amazing experience at sushi stars every was welcoming Ming the manager she is so cute and helpful I recommend it strongly
Went here for the first time last night with my partner and absolutely loved it. The service was awesome and the waiters and waitresses were super friendly even adding a rose to our table for our date. The food was amazing and we even got asked if we got everything we ordered which was nice. Definitely coming back!
Update post- COVID: The delivery experience has been very disappointing with this restaurant. It seems like they put their training staff in charge of preparing the delivery orders. The sushi rolls I received were not fresh, were huge, and wrapped so loosely that each of them fell apart when picked up. An absolutely disappointing experience with one of the best restaurants in town.
Old review: Used to be 5-star in person, but now in COVID situation the delivered items were so different and so disappointing. Instead of fresh, tiny pieces which used to be bite-sized and beautifully cut, the salmon was un-evenly cut and the pieces were so huge we had to bite each piece of sushi roll 2-3 times to be able to finish it. The seaweed was unpleasant to eat as it was chewy and not fresh. We were given a bowl of miso soup and one extra seaweed salad for free. Thank you guys for that, but we are not going to order anything from Sushi Stars until things go back to normal.
Amazing food! My boyfriend and I have been coming for years, every anniversary and special date night:) the flavors are incredible, service is so kind and very quick. They are very welcoming and the atmosphere is incredible! Will be returning for years to come for sure!
Great service and great food. They are very friendly. Food came quickly. A little pricey but you pay for the quality and service. Made for a great date night
I like this place so much, Every time I came here they got something new, Services always quick and nice, Beef teriyaki is amazing, They always provides high quantity and fresh food. The atmosphere is great. I enjoy every meal with my family here. It will always be my first choice. The Sushi was so wonderful, fresh and tasty! A five stars for sure. Will be back to this estate for sure. Been coming here for several years, My top sushi place in KW. Strongly recommend the good and high quality desserts. Would definitely recommend it. If you want to have a fantastic experience this is the place to go. I would highly recommend this restaurant. The best place for sushi in town.
Great food. Ordered during lockdown and enjoyed everything, decided to come back to dine in and loved the experience overall. Food was very flavourful.
This is easily nsome of the best sushi in town, it is always fresh, staff is friendly and it never disappoints. My only complaint is there isn't another location!
I stopped coming here many years ago because they were using cheap soy sauce and thinking we can't tell the difference. First time back since the renovations and maybe new ownership? They are now using real good soy sauce and decor was nice, service was amazing and food was really nicely arranged very pleasing to the eyes. Will be back a regular again
It was extremely crowded. We had a reservation for my birthday and they didn't have any table ready for us. They brought some plastic chairs from their patio and gave us a table in the most uncomfortable place in the restaurant. They were not asking anyone the proof of vaccination as well. I also found a hair in my food.
Nice all you can eat sushi place.have been coming here for last 10 years. Taste is consistent and fresh. Staff is very cheerful and accommodating when it gets busy. Our go to Sushi Place in KW area.
Food was spot on and the flavor was amazing! Service was speedy and the servers were very courteous and pleasant. The short ribs are the freshest tasting in town!
Very nice to see a manager floating around visiting tables to ensure their customers experience is perfect. Nice change of scenery, my new favorite sushi restaurant in K-W!
I've been a customer for about a decade now. I've seen the place go through several renovations and updates. I've always been pleased with the food at Sushi stars. The sushi pieces are quite small for all you can eat but I personally like that as I have a smaller jaw and it's easier for me to eat. It also helps when you want to try more kinds of sushi as you're not filling up one roll. The only thing I wish could change is the location; something easy to access with more parking. The parking lot is very small and the spaces are sideways like this / /. Other than that I would recommend this place for sure. It's nice and cozy.
Food was amazing. Quality meat. Fresh. Fair priced. Servers were very nice and fast to take away empty dishes. Only have one bad thing to say: as the dinner went on started taking stuff a while to come out and didn't get a couple things we ordered. Wasn't a big deal. Would still highly recommend. The environment is relaxed and cozy which was nice as well. Best sushi place I've been to.
Great selection of sushi items. Dinner is always great here. They have more items on their menu than the usual all you can eat sushi restaurant. They do offer gluten free soy sauce which is awesome, but language can sometimes be an issue. Yummy menu, and friendly service. Washroom cleanliness can sometimes be improved.
Very kind friendly staff always. My first few times the staff went through the menu and explained what everything was and made my experience much more enjoyable! Always smiling. Just made my day! My favorite sushi bar food taste great!
This is the go to spot when my bf and I come to Waterloo. The servers are so welcoming. Awesome service! Great variety of dishes! Love the deep fried ice cream scoop:)
By far the best sushi in the area, we have been coming here for almost 10 years and the food continues to get better and better. They always have the freshest Sashimi and their meats are all fantastic! Thank you for doing a great job Sushi Star!
We've been going here for nearly a decade and have enjoyed watching the business grow. Service is always excellent and the owner is super friendly and fun. The new electronic ordering system is great - no missed or misplaced orders! As always, the food is delicious and I'll keep visiting so long as they're open.:)
Just went to another AYCE sushi restaurant after going to Sushi Stars for a while and was reminded of how awesome Sushi Stars truly is. I'm never going to another AYCE sushi restaurant again, as none can compare. The food quality is excellent and same with the service. They also keep updating their menu and decor, so clearly they care about their restaurant. We often see one of the owners going around and checking in on everything too, so there is a high level of care at Sushi Stars that you don't get at many other places. If you haven't gone, give it a try, and I think you'll be happy you did.
I’ve been to Sushi Stars for a couple years already. The food has the same quality as good as always and staffs are very friendly. They updated to the new ipad systems recently and that was a great experience for me to try. Highly recommend Sushi stars for everyone who loves food.
This is hands down the best sushi joint in Kitchener Waterloo. Not only is the fish just as fresh as any other top AYCE sushi place, its meats are amazing. Chicken skewers are one of my favourite things to get there and always a must. Perfectly seasoned. And there's Teriyaki beef which is a small med rare steak that comes on a searing hot plate served with onions. Stir it around in the sauce and onions and cook it to your liking. Two weeks ago they introduced me to deep fried mars bars. I went back today almost exclusively to get my fix for the DEEP FRIED MARS BARS.
I have been common to this Great Restaurant ever since they first opened! I have to say I love this place either it be with friends or family or just myself coming in to enjoy a great lunch or Dinner buffet after a long day of work. I have introduced so many people to the delight of a authentic Japanese delicacy! And they have all Loved it! Thank you so much for 10 yrs of enjoyment!
I usually rave about sushi star. I however have celiac disease. The staff has been very helpful. My last order the server did not know what gluten was, did not read my ticket on the subs I always request and sent me food with both crab and tempura that I bit into. When you have celiac the affects last 6 months. I will suffer for 6 months because a waitress couldn't confirm what gluten was or read my ticket. I have been a server. It is part of the job. They also refuse to take time to provide a list of the gluten free items, they just provide what ever they feel like for the day when I request gluten free. This was he only sushi place I trusted.
Update: a month later I go to order sushi star as they offered to replace my maki box the next time I ordered off just eat. I did not receive my complimentary Maki box. It is really frustrating they would not honor correcting their mistake.
Pleasently surprised about the quality, the decor, the menu and the service at the restaurant. Waiter were really helpful attended really fast when you needed. Food was exceptionally great and loved the takoyaki and salmon teriyaki. Went on a Sunday and price came to about 22 for a person taxes in and if paid by cash there is a 5% discount which is not at Kinkaku. Would be back soon. If anyone are in for a challenge try the salmon head and salmon neck.
Lamb skewers as part of ayce menu is awesome. Sushi and sashimi are good, ingredients are pretty fresh. The environment in the restaurant is clean and ambient. Very good ayce place in Kitchener. I'd say the ayce sushi in Kitchener dt is more upscale than this one and have more options.
So the last time I was here was about 5 years ago and I love the new look. However the service was absolutely horrendous.
My date and I ordered sapporo's and the server open them and poured about a quarter glass full and it was all foam and when she opened one can it sprayed everywhere.
The tuna sashimi was still frozen in the middle.
They threw the plates down on the table instead of setting them down.
They didn't clear empty plates.
Luckily my date and I still had a great time, the food was okay. Don't think I'll be going back.
Sushi Star is a pretty plain, quiet-looking place when you come at it from the outside. There is definitely not a lot of seating and it's a bit dark when you come in, so it's one of the more quiet places I've eaten at. It's nice and not too busy, either in decor or the number of patrons.
I went in for lunch on a Sunday and I was pleased with the food I got. Tempura, cheese wonton, sushi, and maki rolls of all types. They were all quite good, although the sushi rolls did not do a good job of sticking together (the rice fell off the fish very easily) and the Philadelphia rolls are atypical.
All in all, an okay place for $20 lunch on the weekend.
