Sushi Umi

Food was great, there was a minor miscommunication about my order and the staff were beyond generous in addressing it. My date enjoyed the vegetarian selection. Will definitely be ordering from here again!

Absolute favourite sushi joint in the city. Menu is simpler and straightforward, and focuses on the freshness of the fish and of the rice! Rice always tastes like it’s cooked and kept warm until ready to serve. Can’t go wrong with any of the menu items. Lunch service is efficient and satisfying. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic the opening hours are more restricted, so I never miss the opportunity to eat there when I finish work early enough.

Passing by the area and randomly stopped in to grab some take out. It was our first time here and my husband and I were in for quite a surprise, the food was delicious and the chef was so kind and generous! We will definitely be coming back, this is our new favourite!

Be careful when you order online, if you order the Wellington combo it will add a dollar charge on for no reason. Staff had nothing to say about that other than "it must be a glitch". Yeah one scamming people out of money.

Went to this place for lunch with my mother and we were treated poorly and did not enjoy our food. The service was slow and we expected better food as we heard this was a good place.

Great service, delicious food, and very friendly and welcoming. Nice cozy spot to sit down and enjoy some authentic sushi.

I really wanted to like this place, but truthfully: it’s over rated. Aside from them not having a liquor license and the table and glasses not being clean, this was probably the blandest sushi I’ve had in a while. Also, at 47.99, the Party Tray B is a little overpriced considering what you get, which is two variations on California rolls and a few nigiri. I hope they can up their game in the future.

I reviewed here a year ago, and today made it my celebratory first dinner w friends in a yr+1/2. Food was a delight and everyone loved their meal. Once again staff are a delight and informative. Great cuts and flavors. New favorite here is the Citrus roll. I hope others enjoy their times from here too!

My husband and I have not had sushi since the pandemic started, take out sushi has always been disappointing. But I took a chance, drove 25min and it was fantastic! The car smelled like gyozas for the whole trip home and it was so hard not to eat them right away. Really nice on the phone and pickup was so easy. And it was soooo good.

Ordered party tray B. Sushi was good, except for being 2/3 avocado. Nothing but fish and avocado inside.

I love this spot! I found it when I worked in the Pasture. My colleagues and I would always walk over for lunch. The service was always great and the sushi is delicious! Now that we’re working from home, I still try to make it out there once a month to pick up some of their sushi. What I like most is the sushi pieces are not sized too large, which makes them easy to eat and very flavourful.

Amazing sushi, and friendly service. I have been going there since they opened in 2009. You can't beat the quality and freshness of Sushi Umi.

Delicious sushi. I've been going to this restaurant for a few years and am consistently happy. Other sushi places pale compared to this neighbourhood gem. The quality for price is excellent and the people are friendly! I don't know what they do to their shitake mushrooms but they are phenomenal! Thank you Sushi Umi!

Favourite spot in town! Our go to for lunch combos or dinner, high quality sushi, and the staff are so friendly and always go the extra mile for us!

This is my favourite sushi restaurant. The food is consistently excellent and the service is truly amazing. I recommend it to all my friends and family. Do yourself a favour and try their sushi.

When you pay full price for the best take out Sushi with tip for the team who prepare it, ask for double wasabi and get home and there's no wasabi and are to sort it out. Truly disappointing experience. Would it be too embarrassing to insist that employees check the bag? It's not that we don't make mistakes. It's whether we make our customers pay for our mistakes. Good people but bad service.their problem dumped onto their customer so now you get to hear about it while I'm on my way to the grocery store to buy wasabi

I love this place. Not cheap (good sushi rarely is) but I have never been disappointed by the food! Friendly staff, quality food, quick service, freshly made to order. Recommended!

Came here for their lunch special, which was miso soup, California rolls, I think dynamite rolls, and salmon sushi. The quality was good, well prepared and fresh ingredients. Service was great as well. Prices are okay, felt like the lunch special I ordered needed something else to justify the price, as I did end up leaving hungry.

One thing I did find confusing was they have several menus on the walls of the restaurant, but different menus in different places, making it tricky to know what all the specials are.

Best sushi quality in Ottawa! Location is a tad pricier but they source the highest quality fish in the city, 24 hours flash frozen and flown from overseas.

Sushi was good, but the service is lacking. Was served the wrong order. Then found a piece of shell in my roll (after crunching down on it). No apologies or token reduction in my bill. In these scenarios a mea culpa, however small, makes the difference between whether or not I will return.

An underrated, hidden gem. Huge chunks of fish in their rolls (not like the ground up junk at other places) and large slices on their nigiri, all perfectly balanced with just the right amount of rice. Can't recommend enough. Super quick service for dine in and take out.

Sushi and salads from this place are really good and my personal experience was great when service provided (which is not always happen on time). Price is acceptable and when service provided it is also good. Location clean but some renovation will be better to do.

Fantastic find. Don’t let the small restaurant fool you, Sushi Umi has big taste. Great service and great food. We ordered the party tray with some changes, and the service was very helpful and accommodating. The dishes were well presented, and it tasted fantastic. You’re paying for quality. We’ll be back.

I ordered the dynamite roll (8 pcs) for $9.50. On the menu is says that it comes with tempura bits with addition to shrimp tempura. There was no sign of tempura bits in the sushi roll. When I emailed and sent them a photo of it, they reply with "
I see little tempura bits in your picture. " There were only shrimp tempura and no tempura bits. I didn't even feel any crispiness because the sushi itself was so small in general. If I'm paying $9.50 for 8 pcs of sushi I want to at least see CLEARLY whatever is said to be in the sushi to be in the sushi. That is the least they can do. Maybe if I used a microscope I'll see some tempura bits that were probably just fallen in there by mistake. Will never order from here again. The sushi itself wasn't terrible, but not worth it for the price.

Would give less than 1 star if possible. Extremely dissatisfied with the service. Ordered online only receive 2 out of the 5 items ordered. The one thing of mine that actually came, veggie gyoza, tasted like pre-made frozen dumplings, and not great ones at that. I phone the restaurant to let them know they forgot the majority of the order and her solution was to have me order it again. Did not offer any solution other than paying for the item again and trying to deal with UberEats for the refund. Rest assured I will NEVER be ordering from here again.

Absolutely loved this restaurant. It may be small but utterly charming and homey, the sushi was seriously the best we have ever had & we've eaten sushi all across Canada. It was beautifully presented and the waitress was wonderful and attentive. People who are complaining about the price are most likely comparing it to all you can eat places: no matter the quantity you cannot compare the quality. I will definitely come back and bring our friends!

Pretty good sushi in a very quiet small restaurant. The dynamite Maki rolls were the best. Tempura is a bit greasy but still yummy. Worth a try.

Enjoyed it here. Menu is large. Good lunch specials. Their sashimi is nice too. Ordered takoyaki to go. Ate in with the Wellington roll and short rib bento

This small gem in Westboro serves authentic sashimi. The cuts are big, and are fresh. Price is very good too.

Really great quality sushi and the service is always great as well. Almost every time I go the owner is in the store helping in both the kitchen and the front of house. He seems incredibly dedicated to making sure his restaurant is top notch and it really shows. Also once I left some headphones at the restaurant and didn't return for a few months. The second I walked back in the owner went and grabbed my headphones and returned them to me.

It's difficult for a small à-la-carte restaurant like this to compete with the likes of G&V sushi in Aylmer (best sushi in the region), however the quality of the food and the service were both excellent.

My partner has celiac disease, and cannot eat gluten so we really appreciate that the owner ordered his staff to clean their work surfaces when we advised him of her dietary requirements.

The cost of certain items such as nigiri seemed prohibitively expensive compared to our expectations so we did not order any. The miso soup was excellent and our food tasted very fresh.

We spent about 50 dollars before gratuities and we felt the amount of food was appropriate. A meal at G&V, which is AYCE is about 60 dollars before gratuities.

We enjoyed our experience at Umi and we will consider eating there again in the future.

Sushi were very good but we (2of us) had to wait 40 minutes for them. To long wait time just for 2 sushi servings.
