Suya Palace Nigerian/African Charcoal Grill & BBQ Restaurant

Ordered Suya beef and chicken. Beef was extremely tough and chicken was extremely dry. The charcoal flavor was the only flavor present but it wasn't great and made the plantain, the jollof rice, and the meat all taste the exact same.
Speaking of the jollof rice - my least favorite in the city, to date.
Portion size was good. But the bland and homogenous flavor of the whole setup was extremely disappointing and the quality of the meat was abysmal.

Very poor customer service, seems like you don’t even exist when you get in, no menu on table and no one for explain what to do. We wait 25 min before to leave

The only African/Nigerian restaurant in Ottawa that I am proud of. The others can be really whack.

The combination of pounded yam with Nigerian spinach stew is truly mouthwatering. The soft and fluffy texture of the pounded yam perfectly complements the rich and flavorful Nigerian spinach stew. Nigerian cuisine is renowned for its bold flavors and unique dishes, and this particular combination is definitely a standout. I thrilled with my order.

Called several times for hours no response, came in the restaurant place my order sat down for more than one hour and still got no response. Only to be told they missed my order. This is reoccurring event and it's not being considerate for others time.

The food used to be incredible with large portions. Now prices have gone up and portion size has gone down significantly. Not worth ordering through Uber eats anymore.

First got the egusi soup with pounded yam. I was disappointed. Why were the spices missing from the soup? Not good. But the jollof rice ehn? I got the beef suya combo. The jollof rice mad die. The meat? You guys should have seasoned the soup the way you seasoned the jollof. Keep up the good job.

Lovely ambience and food! Will definitely visit again. We ordered the mixed platters with goat and beef and the chicken platter. They came with jollof rice, plantains and salad.

Tried Suya palace for the first time today at noon. Had the goat suya combo (pronounced Soya) quite delicious.

Just ordered the tray again. Payed 200$ and the tray shrunk by 50% from last year. Very disappointing. Too expensive to order again.

My first Chicken+Goat suya and egusi+pounded yam experience.fell in love with African/Nigerian cuisine right away

This was my first time eating West African food. I had the goat suya combo. Suya (Soya). Means fried or smoked meat

Service was speedy, seating area was fresh and food was top tier! Owner was very friendly and thanked us on our way out, will definitely be coming back soon!

Flavours were fantastic and the service was warm and inviting (contrary to some reviews we read prior to going) and the only draw back was the place looks like it could use a little tlc.
My family took me there for my birthday dinner (2A 2C under 6) and we walked in to a bouquet of mouthwatering smells and the courteous and friendly staff directed us to choose what ever table we wanted. The restaurant to be honest, looked like it needed a polish and the floor could use a good mopping. That was the ONLY negative to our experience there.
After talking to the mgr who walked me through the menu and gave lots of great information and suggestions we placed our order. He was even kind enought to wish me a happy birthday and brought me a juice as a little something!
Please understand that time relaxing and talking while waiting for the food is part of the African restaurant experience so don't be expecting toget it on your table in 5 min. If you want that go to McD's!
When the food came (2 combo platters) it was beautifully plated (I wish I thought to take pics!) and with a bowl of delicious jolof rice. FYI Ghanian jolof is different in the flavour and "sauciness" and this Nigerian jolof was fantastic of its own right being light, fluffy, and with a beautiful smoky note. The chicken and goat were amazing! Tender, juicy, and bursting with flavour I only wish we had ordered more! The beef was a little overcooked comparitively. I will say that there is a bit of heat to the dish (a tiny little bit too much for the kids even though they didn't stop eating! Hahaha
The take out and delivery that was coming and going throughout our meal was nonstop which just goes to tell you how good the food is.
Overall if you decide to check this place out you won't be dissapointed. The food, service, and friendliness of staff are amazing! We'll be back!

Please update your menu on Uber eats. Makes no sense when your try an order how do you get a combo with the options of two meats and you can’t even pick what meat you want on your food. Please update it or at least put the option to write a comment on the food for what meat you want

The jollof rice is top tier! It gets really busy, so might wait a little, but props to the gentleman taking the orders for always staying courteous & accommodating, pressure regardless.

I think the quality of food has gone down in the last 2 years.
Once my favorite restaurant, the quality and quantity of food has reduced. Previously you would get large portions but now it seems that the meal is fluffed with just rice and barely any meat.
My meal was served cold.
Tables are dirty and service is slow (You have to keep waiting atleast 30 minutes to get even water)

We wanted to try a new and unique restaurant for my birthday. We were a group of five people and decided to walk-in. This is not your traditional "order at the table and wait for your food". You go to the counter, the waiter is kind enough to explain what their menu consists of and the combos available.

The seats are stylish and cozy (chairs we comfortable enough to even give yourself more lumbar support than the normal chair you usually see in a restaurant were you start to feel some pain after 30 minutes.

The service is quite friendly and welcoming. The ambiance is relaxed as well. The food was excellent! I took the Goat/Chicken suya combo - It comes with a bit of coleslaw, plantains, salad, your selected meat (s) and a huge bowl of jollof rice and some side spices (the waiters were kind enough to bring us a few extra spices not for those that cannot go spicier than honey garlic. Ultimately, I came it with a hungry stomach and got out with a smily face and a fully belly. As we tried all meat, I can say that the chicken and the beef were cooked perfectly whereas the goat was on the dry side (but still delicious).

Ultimately, we were pleased by our visit at Suya Palace. However, a very few points for improvement (those aren't going to ruin your food experience) :
- The "Open" sign was not lit when we arrived, so we were a little bit confused of where and if it was opened.
- The inside, although quite stylish at some places, would benefit of some additional love.
- I have a few friends who can not support too much spiciness, so it would have been nice to have a non-spicy version of the rice for them.
- When it was time to pay, we had to pay the full bill, meaning that the "cashier" did not offer to make separate bills as we were not from the same household.

That being said, totally going to come back in a near future!

They just dust the meat with uncooked spicy
It’s just inhuman to steal the money from people by giving uncooked food with cube spice on top

Extremely delicious Nigerian food, we tried a variety of dishes and they were all really good. My favorite was the Nkwobi and rice with Ayamatse stew. The guy who took our phone order was very warm. Can't wait to visit again.

The staff were extremely professional and friendly. The food was phenomenal and was served earlier than expected. Highly recommend! ️

The spicy chicken was excellant. The service was good and the server was extremely helpful in helping us choose. Not a fancy place, but a good place with Nigerian food. Yummy. Will return again

During this critical period of total blackout in some areas of Ottawa, I and my family visited Suya palace. They provided us a Naija friendly environment, good Ogbono soup with shaky meat, and of course a place to charge our devices. Good customer service from the waiter (Wolu).:)

Best Suya in Town!

So I’ve tried Suya places out of my home country and nothing compares.

This is real Suya.
The slices are thin, properly marinated and flavorful.
The meal comes with yaaji (the original Suya sprinkle powder sauce).

It tastes just like what you’ll get in West Africa.
Their jollof is actually super tasty too.

Ordered from this spot 3x in 4 days.
I highly recommend.

Flavours are very good and so are the portions. However, I only leave truthful reviews, the cook on their meat is quite inconsistent. Sometimes it's tender and other times I don't even bother trying to chew. The dishes with red meat should be given more time on the stove.

The jollof rice was sooo smoky and flavourful. I loved all the different parts of the meal. The coleslaw was nice and refreshing and balanced out the spicy flavours. I found the beef to be a bit dry but for the price, this is a very solid and tasty meal!

Staff were very polite and friendly and most importantly the food was delicious. Highly recommend

I don't understand these reviews. It had the aftertaste of burnt food, the portion was small. The rice isn't cooked properly, this is not Jollof.this is not African food.

I definitely not impressed with they service. Dine in is clearly not their expertise. We get in, and we are waiting in a line for 15 min (mind you the line is mixed with people for take out and restaurant is empty) then when we finally get to the front, the guy doesn’t indicate where we should go sit let alone if we order there or at table. Considering the price, the portion is ridiculously small. 5 pieces of plantain in a $20 platter is ridiculous. The table itself was not clean, no water or drinks were brought to our table once we ordered. Considering the way they set their restaurant up and price the food, the least they can do is keep in mind of the quality of the food service. I had extremely high hopes, but I was let down by food clearly cooked the day before and dirty tables.

Arrived with my family and friend 2 hours after supposedly to be open on March 18, Friday. Young woman at the front desk offer bad service, even though we request a table. I was very surprised on her reply, (the food service will be better and faster if we do takeout) and continue to mess around with her phone and ignoring us completely. We left after 6 minutes of being ignored and we didn't order anything, I guess they didn't want our service. If i could offer no star for her service, I would.

OMG! Lovely dish. Fantastic attendants. I'll definitely come back another time. I came all the way and I must say it was really worth it.

We called twice only to be put on hold for at least 15 minutes each time.
We then decided just to show up.
We stood for 10 minutes at the front entrance only to be ignored and laughed at.
I left because I felt racially profiled.

The food is not bad but the service is so bad. They have only one staff for everything. She can not handle all. I went there and wait more than 1,5 hours for the meals. Even the waitress forgot us. 3 groups came after us but got served before us. So weird. If you’re spicy food lover maybe their food will suit you because it’s really spicy? The restaurant should hire more staff and improve the service better

Very flavourful Nigerian food at Suya Palace. I got the Large Chicken Sula Plate and it was awesome. Loved the spicy Jollof Rice. Love the chicken too. They give you extra spices to sprinkle on your meal if you want it hotter. Yassss!

Delicious authentic tasting African food! Really hit the spot. Will definitely be going again when I have my cravings

Had some of the suya combos and pounded yam and forgot the veggies, it was suggested to me by the amazing waitress and really loved it, would definitely recommend, would have been 5 stars but the service was a little slow but food wise it an amazing place

I usually go here every Friday. It’s now a family tradition and we look forward to delicious suya and jollof rice. Following the protest, we have not been able to go to the down area at all hopefully the protest will end and we will be able to have access the area again without stress.

I ordered food for pick up through Skip the Dishes. I got a notification that my food was ready, only to get there and it really wasn't. The girl who was handling my order told me they were still working on my order and to wait. She also looked like she didn't want to be bothered with any questions. I waited another 15 minutes. This gave me a chance to look at the condition of the restaurant. My oh my, the place is a mess with construction materials all over the place, including the pick up area where a customer could trip from all the stuff left haphazardly everywhere. The whole place looks hazardous! I don't know how they run this place honestly. The 2 is because the food was good. But they need to really fix their environment, and their customer service!

I was very excited to try out this place but it fell a little short of my expectations. I placed an order for pickup through the website provided in the “Menu” link. I received no order confirmation after 20 minutes so I called the restaurant to confirm they had my order. Service was lukewarm. Once home, I realized they had not packed the beverage that was included in the meal. The food itself was flavourful but it was cold and the meat was very dry and tough. I’ll probably try it out again and update my review if it’s better.

I would rate this place zero stars if I could. The customer service is seriously subpar. They never have my order on time and the food is mostly half finished. How can you have suya with no suya spice? ! I have ordered from here multiple times, trying to give them multiple chances but there's always an issue whether it's the long wait times, not remembering my order or not having the item on their menu or the food is not cooked properly. I am done with this place. Anyone ordering from here should be prepared for a disappointing experience.

Great meal, Nigerian smokey jolly rice! The cook was pleasant and added extras to our order, everything taste was worth the price. I definitely would return:)

A very delicious meal with good portion of meat Deserves a second turn. Oh! And the inside of the restaurant is really impressive. They are probably going to be having a live band or something. You will have a great sense of Home when here. The customer experience was great too

I used to love this restaurant but not anymore.
Yesterday I decided to order 5 different dishes for my family but was really disappointed.
I placed an order for pickup 50mins before showing up and still had to wait  for 30 more mins.
I did like the beef suya honestly but not the chicken suya it tasted different than before, the meat in both soup (Agusi and ogbono) was tough uneatable, the jellof rice was burned smells really bad  most of the food ended up in a trash  I just wasted over 100$.

So the place was friendly I don't have experience with African food so the owner was nice to let me try before I ordered. We got a mixed platter and the beef was good but the goat was the best. Plates were generous proportion and flavourful. Over all the experience was good. Wish to try more options tho.

I'd love to give a 5 star because the service was fast, friendly and the goat suya was just what I was craving. However I found a long strand of hair when I opened the bowl of chicken suya which kinda spoilt my appetite

It was very good, the soup was good but the fufu was too soft it was supposed to be solid not watering!

Just came back empty handed. This was my 3rd try to eat their food and I live across the street but it’s impossible to place an order. I walked in today and after 15 minutes of waiting not a single person came and asked if I wanted to place an order. The gentleman with who was also frustrated somehow manage to speak to an employee but there is no food left. Why keep the customers waiting like that? Why no one ever answers the phone? Why are employees so unbelievably unprofessional? Utter disappointment. This was the worst restaurant experience of my life and I didn’t even had the chance to taste the food which I really wanted to.
