Sweet Basil Restaurant

My friend and I recently had supper at this restaurant. Reservations were made prior. The experience was wonderful form the greeting at the entrance to the servers helping us with our choices. Food was hot and delicious, and the decor and ambiance was top notch. We will definitely be telling our friends about this quaint location. Thanks to all the friendly staff at Sweet Basil Restaurant!)

Ordered via DoorDash on a Monday evening in November 2023. First time having Sweet Basil's food and the last time. Food arrived quicker then the estimated time. Food was lacking in flavour, had high salt, mild spice even for the spicy dishes, heavy on the vegetables, and very little meat. Very expensive compared to other Thai places. Had 41. Gaeng Pa (chicken), H. Nua Takrai, and G. BBQ Beef Green Curry.

Amazing place. Phenomenal food, and great staff and atmosphere. Have been here many times and I've loved their Pho, Pad Thai, and rice dishes. The stuffed chicken wings are phenomenal and they also have many vegetarian options!

Been to the restaurant before liked the service and atmosphere well enough, but order fried rice tonight on uber eats and it was disappointing. The rice was way over cooked and lumpy, both in the fried rice and the steamed rice. It made the whole meal unenjoyable. For the prices they charge they should at least cook the rice correctly.

I had an amazing dining experience at Sweet Basil! The food was incredibly delicious, and the flavors were authentic. The staff was friendly and provided excellent service. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a great meal. I highly recommend trying their Pad Thai and Green Curry – they were absolutely mouthwatering. Sweet Basil is now my go-to place for authentic Thai cuisine in Ottawa. Can’t wait to come back!

I Dined in with my wife and the Quality of the food was immaculate all the way down to the service over all one of if no the best authentic thia restaurant I have been to.

Super yummy Thai food. Highly recommend the red curry - always my favourite. Great service if you are dining in, also great for take out. Food is always hot and tasty!

Thai food done really, *really* well. Pad Thai is how I gauge Thai restaurants, and rest assured, those of you who love the dish - this place serves up a beautiful, steaming dish of perfectly cooked noodles, fresh (so they don't stick together), with plenty of peanuts (crunch, yum) just the right amount of gentle spice (I bet they could add or lessen the spiciness) and aromas of tamarind and lime.

My husband enjoyed a dish of Pad Char - distinct and delectable flavours of ginger and basil and fresh, quality variety of veggies.

The vibe is comfy and clean. I am confident we will be returning soon for a sizzle dish, which we hear is a real treat. I've also got my eye on a cool papaya salad. Also the stuffed chicken wings (!?).

Wires got crossed and I did not get my soup with my order. That being said, the food that I DID get? Was good!:)

Local recommendations by friends do not disappoint, Sweet Basil was indeed sweet; we had pad thai, veggie spring rolls, crispy beef, Tom kha goong soup and rice; yummy food, spiced just right was screaming quality. Pick-up service was quick and painless; parking was not plentiful but available next door. The only negative thing I can say that it was a bit pricey but a recommended spot for Thai food in Ottawa nevertheless.

Really delicious food. Good, friendly service. The home made hot sauce was amazing highly recommend it.

Tried this place few weeks ago. Total 115 + 15% tips
They do have some special stuff like stuffed chicken wings and I have to say their pho are really good, when you try the pad see ew you will see the difference of the quantity of the pho if you compared with Thai express. I don’t recommend pla muk yang, even tho I saw that in the social media but the order is tooo small, an usual adult can finish that whole dish with 3 scoops lol. I recommend that chicken wing even is really expensive (three with 20 buck before tax) but their sauce is a great combination with the wings. Their service is kind of speechless, only one server with around 7 table of cxs and she doesn’t have ability to approve the service that qualified with the food price. When I asked before order she told me the rice is served with curry but for the receipt you can see a 3.5 bucks + tax is the reason I really can’t tell my friends to go there and “enjoy” the food. Main dish is served after 40 mins we finished the appetizer, I kindly ask the server why but the answer I got is you need to wait the line, if you want main dish serve together with your appetizer you need to let us know first! (even tho she never asked about that before the order or let us know the approximate wait time.) as you can see the price is expensive and food worth you to taste, but for me won’t come again.

Great food at good prices. Very flavourful meals and you can have the heat done to your tastes. Recommend!

I was thoroughly disappointed in the order I received. I ordered the red curry, as well as the Yum Nua Yang (beef salad). I was better off ordering a salad from Metro or Costco because the finesse and attention to detail in this dish was out the window. The iceberg lettuce was hacked into huge pieces, and there weren't any other veg or HERBS in there worth noticing. The beef was over cooked, most places will keep the beef medium or medium well as to not over cook it. I've had this salad many times before in Thai restaurants in Toronto and thought I was getting something good.

Needless to say, I will not be returning.

Had ordered takeout from Sweet Basil for a while, did my first dine in there a few weeks back. It was great!

Tried there pad thai for the first time and it was amazing. The taste was excellent. If i had to recommend on place to eat it would be this place.

This has been a family favourite for years. We rarely eat in, so we can't vouch for the restaurant service. But the food is always fantastic: fresh, and flavourful. They do a good job of addressing our allergy concerns. Sweet Basil is always a treat.

My friend recommended this restaurant and the food is great! The staff were really friendly and efficient. Best Thai food in the city, I will be coming back!

Good food. Authentic taste and good service. I just find the food pricey for the portion of the dishes. Portions are on the small side and not enough to be shared.

Pad ki mow is amazing! As are the other dishes I've heard from my guests. I just can't get sick of pad ki mow so I always order it. Fresh hot and wonderful staff.

I usually don't post reviews but I felt like I had to for this restaurant because the food was outstanding. My sister and I ordered vegetarian pad sew and pad thai from here through uber eats and they were both FANTASTIC. I usually find that when we order Thai it's a bit of a greasy mess but the food we got from here was perfectly cooked, not too greasy and best of all THE NOODLES WEREN'T CLUMPED TOGETHER! I've also got to add that the pad sew was the best I've tried ever!

First time ordering takeout from Sweet Basil after hearing good things. We were not disappointed. The Panaeng with Chicken Curry was very flavouful with the right amount of spiciness. The seafood Pad Thai was very tasty with lots of tang, just the way we like it. We also had the Crispy Duck with vegetables, some rice and chicken dumplings. All delicious. We’ll definitely be ordering our Thai food from Sweet Basil in the future.

I don't give out 5 stars easily but this is one of the best Thai places in the city. We order from here regularly and the food quality is always phenomenal. The prices are definitely on the high end but we find that its worth it for the quality and quantity of food you get. My wife doesn't even like Thai food that much and she always devours her food from Sweet Basil.
