Ok so the coffee is good, but the tipping options of $1, $2 or $3 on a $5 latte is ridiculous. Owners should be ashamed and pay their baristas a living wage.
Bought some coffee beans, the Barista even offered to grind them for me if I wanted, nice gesture.
Edit: I bought the Heritage roast and gave it as a gift to my Aunt who is a coffee aficionado in Vancouver and she said it's a really great coffee and has a wonderful Bloom of Carbon Dioxide.
The use a nice flavourful roast for the beans used for espresso drinks. Backed goods are always fresh and tasty. Service is always quick unless there's a huge backup of drinks
We moved to this area a few months ago and this is our go-to coffee shop for both drinks and beans.
In terms of the beans, Pilot is one of the best brands. I've been familiar with them for years as I've had them at other coffee shops. Now though, they are my primary choice for at home coffee. I've tried multiple flavours, and they've all been great including the decaf.
In terms of drinks, they are consistently good. I've been to tons of coffee shops around the world and Pilot is definitely up there. I'm a latte guy, but one drink I have to mention is their hot chocolate which my wife rates as the best she's had.
We haven't tried many of thr pastries, but thr cookies we've got have been very good.
I should also mention they have a rewards program that is really good for free drinks or coffee bags if you go there often.
I am hoping this is the union station location. As this review is about my experience on a super early holiday morning. They were open before the other shops. The coffee was bitter and just a disappointment. But the breakfast croissant was excellent. So a 3.5 star would be a better rating. I will revisit next time to see if it was just an anomaly. Sometimes you can have a bad coffee day and to be fair they were dedicated to be open so early
Amazing coffee and amazing service. Asked the barista to surprise me with a hot beverage and she did not dissappoint. Wish I asked for the name of the coffee because it was honestly the best coffee I had in a long time.
I was desperate for coffee, someone told me “Pilot is best coffee in town”, when I rolled my eyes, he instead Ed to walk me there And darn, he was correct.very well done job guys … everything is perfect and I am coffee nerd
Te Aro was an awesome place to enjoy coffee and other snacks in the patio but since the sign was changed, the customer service hasn't been friendly for some reason.
So i was like totally in a hurry to get back to my $2M mansion but FIRST i needed a lil sippie sippie so i crawled over to the coffee roaster that had the most preppiest customers (like me)!
then! They told me that my car was gonna get towed so i RAN out of the shoppe without paying and guess WHAT? I put my car into reverse so i could sneak away but then THIS happened!:
Pretty decent place, they don’t have indoor seating which sucks but they don’t seem to clean the tables outside at all:/ they were all covered in crumbs and food. I got the London fog latte that didn’t taste of vanilla at all but their sea salt chocolate chip cookie was the bomb but is probably from a bakery haha
Looks like Pilot overtook Te Aro. Although it's same Pilot coffee but it cannot beat Te Aro's customer service. I visited today and had a terrible experience. Also they use to give the Sumatra coffee as drip Pilot doesn't have that. I use to drive 5km to Te Aro but not sure I will do it for Pilot
I moved to the neighborhood a few months ago but have known of the cafe for a number of years. It’s in a great location and has a nice aesthetic. Unfortunately the 5-6 times that I have gone, I always ask myself why I went again. To be honest the customer service is really bad, and no attempt is made to welcome or thank them. Maybe I’m old school but that’s a big thing that is missing. I’m not one to criticize small businesses, especially during this trying time, but wouldn’t you think they would want to show appreciation to their customers even more so? Feels like a queen west vibe in the wrong part of town.
The coffee is decent but the humans are not. I am aware of the owner (Andy) flouting pandemic restrictions personally. I question whether the business is meeting pandemic requirements. Good coffee is not worth supporting someone willing to jeopardize others.
I absolutely love Pilot coffee, but I can’t stomach going to Te Aro given how unfriendly and honestly rude many of the staff are.
At first, I thought it was a one off bad day but I’ve come to realize it’s an everyday occurrence. Save your time and money and go to a coffee shop that you want to be at.
Great place for the coffee connoisseur. You will find about every detail you need for a perfect coffee and happy staff who will cheerfully look after your order.
One of the best coffee shops at Queen street east. Very cozy and coffee is great. Staff is friendly. Not easy for parking. Not expensive place. If you have to do some work on your laptop then this is spot for you. Great vibe and atmosphere. Keep up the good work. Coming back next week I hope 5star will stay
Easy to drive by! Use your GPS and drive slow! I love/require alternate options. The turmeric latte with oat milk suits nicely. And gf-vegan everything cookie is a great complement. There's a calm buzz you feel when walking in here. It's comforting and encouraging of you need to get your creative juices flowing. The atmosphere is rustic and earthy - real-wood tables, faux living wall, metal chairs and glass bottles on bare floors. Definitely well-thought design. Eclectic music with mostlya mellow vibe. Staff all all easy-going and friendly. I recommend. Come through.
I did an exchange in Wellington, NZ and let me tell you, the coffee there is outstanding. I had really high hopes for this NZ inspired shop and they did not disappoint! One of the best lattes I've ever had. Staff was really friendly and knowledgeable too. This place is the real deal. 10/10 would recommend.
Hey it's pilot coffee, that's good stuff so you can't go wrong there. In terms of quality coffee, pilot is always 5 stars in my book. I didn't try any of the food so no comment there.
Moving on to ambience, the decor is quite modern, no comfy chairs so not exactly a coffee shop to relax in. Seems like there is a gorgeous patio space in the summer, but hey, it's December so no dice. If I lived close by it might be my staple espresso bar (for coffee on the go) but as a place to hang out for 45 min between appointments? I think ill keep my options open.
Coffee was good and I was able to find a seat at a shared table, but it was packed! I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re definitely looking for space to hang out.
Te Aro was recommended to me by a local when I was visiting the area. I went in with modest expectation but had a positively delightful experience. Te Aro has a lovely modern but cosy aesthetic, and very friendly staff. I really enjoyed the honey chai latte, a butter croissant, and early grey scone. The other customers seemed to mostly be locals and were really nice when I asked to share a table during a busy period.
I love Te Aro. The staff are very professional, prompt, and friendly. They stock Pilot Coffee Roasters coffee and offer one of the best espressos in Leslieville. And the courtyard in summertime is an absolute dream to sit out on and enjoy the sun or people watch.
Its kinda messed up to charge the same price for a tiny piece of the end of the loaf of banana bread as the same for the giant middle piece.maybe a solution would be to double up or slice the ends thicker and the middle more thin? Not really fair to the customer to play some sort of banana bread lottery.
Great local coffee shop with coffee and espresso drinks plus good selection of snacks. Has fairly spacious outdoor seating area in front that is baby and dog friendly.
Coffee tasted burnt, the hot chocolate, although luxurious in texture and clearly made from actual chocolate, tasted sour and unpleasant. Nice chocolate croissant, cheese scone was fluffy but utterly tasteless. Nice atmosphere and pleasant staff but not really good enough.
Its overrated. The coffee tasted like water and the latte is better at Starbucks. It's a huge place but they do not offer a proper food and dessert menu. Not worth it AT ALL.
Really great place to hang about or to work. It is quite spacious/open in the inside and the outdoor seating is welcome. Great coffee here and staff is friendly. They have a bunch of Pilot beans, merch, and some equipment here for sale as well. Good stop by the area if you want to stock up on Pilot beans or just want to sit down and relax.
Stumbled apon this place during a walk. I love it, it's my new favorite place. I got a iced coffee and a raspberry and banana muffin for 7.45, the price is pretty steep but it is worth it. Muffin was very fresh and iced coffee was perfect. Thank you for being a great café
Pilot coffee, La marzocco machine and mahlkonig grinder, decent space, price is better than elsewhere. First time I saw a grinder for sale on a shelf in a cafe.
Do not leave here without trying the Everything Cookie (GF & V). I am addicted. Pairs phenomenally with an americano or espresso - both of which they do very well here.
Excellent flat white and cappuccino - lovely glossy milk and perfect pour. Beautiful aesthetic and nice shady patio on a weekend morning. Will definitely be back again!
Always enjoy my Te Aro experience, but recent adoption of smart phone app means your old school loyalty cards are worthless and apparently non-transferable to the app. Too bad, I’d hoped for a more favorable customer service response.
All in all an amazing cafe with great product and a lovely atmosphere!
Would give 5 stars however I have received some bad attitude from the employees when it's busy. They also wouldn't put my sandwich on the sandwich press to toast it which I find a little bizzar. Toast my sandwich next time and I'll turn this 4 star rating into a 5 star rating!
Pilot coffee is served at this well run establishment. With a tongue-in-cheek nod to hipsters, it is a welcoming environment that has a feeling of efficiency and warmth. I look forward to a return visit in the summer.
