The Barracks Inn is a beautiful, historic hotel located in the old village of Ancaster. We stayed in a King room, which was large and well appointed. The bathroom had a large shower and twin vanities. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel is quiet and we enjoyed the complimentary continental breakfast. The only reason that I didn't rate it 5 stars is that the receptionist at check-in was not the slightest bit welcoming or personable. The interrogation involved in providing photo identification along with a credit card, both of which were minutely scrutinized, is not an experience most guests would appreciate. The receptionist even went so far as to hold up the driver's license to compare it to my wife's face. Perhaps I am missing something, but does it matter who I am if my credit card is valid and covers all room expenses? I think my advice to the management of the Barracks Inn is, "You've got a nice place here, but could you please not make your guests feel like criminals when they arrive? "

Front desk staff was atrocious. Worst customer service I have ever encountered. Cleaning staff was amazing, kind and incredibly accommodating! Rooms were incredibly beautiful absolutely stunning, stay here for the beautiful rooms but not for the service!

Upon arrival, the front desk did not say hello or how are you to my mother, who has a walker and a knee replacement, they rudely told her she couldn’t stand where she was standing. Didn’t offer to help her at all, only made her feel embarrassed and uncomfortable.

The front staff was disorganized. We had booked over a year in advance, and we still had issues with room assignments. Rooms were changed to incorrect credit cards, causing confusion.

The breakfast was nice, however guests had to ask the same staff member multiple times to have coffee mugs restocked and food restocked.

Fireplaces were not lit, and it was one of the coldest times in January!

Check out time was advertised as being 11 on the website and posted in the rooms. Key cards were shut off at 10: 30, leaving guests who were still packing their cars locked out of their rooms, a huge inconvenience.

We had booked out the whole hotel for my wedding. I would have expected to be treated with more hospitality…

Again stay for the beautiful rooms but not the service!

I have stayed at my share of hotels but this has become one of my favorites. So quaint and comfortable.
My husband and I had a scotch from the scotch cart. It was the perfect final touch to a lovely evening.

We had a lovely stay at The Barracks Inn - where we hosted our entire wedding party and close family for a weekend. With the whole place to ourselves, we were able to enjoy all of the rooms, common areas and beautiful views throughout the property.

The staff were pleasant, attentive and housekeeping did a most wonderful job accommodating our turn-over service aligned to our wedding weekend schedule. Check in was smooth, continental breakfast had some delicious pastries and this hotel was spotlessly clean.

We are so grateful to the entire Inn team!

While our overall stay was very satisfactory, there were a couple minor things worth noting:

-we were not able to get a reliable internet connection from the Royal Suite. This is likely due to the beautiful stonework that may likely interfere with connectivity… nevertheless, for the price paid per night, wish we were able to enjoy Wi-Fi and ended up using our mobile data for our time there

-had to get down on the ground to find and reach the in-ground outlets beside the bed. Again, due to the historic nature of the building, the wiring wasn’t the most modern, but perhaps there could be a way to include built-in outlets in lamps or some way to better charge electronics on the bedside tables

-would’ve been great to have had access to a microwave / the wine cooler in the lounge. Staff were able to permit us to use the kitchen microwave in a supervised setting, and similarly, take some of our items to the back fridge - but just 2 minor things that would’ve made the occasion even more perfect

Beyond these minor details, you cannot go wrong with a stay at The Barracks. The rooms are all beautiful and unique and we truly enjoyed our time on the property! Thank you for your hospitality!
