The Beguiling

Really solid comic book store. I was looking through the trade paperbacks and they carry a decent amount of vol 1s, which is great for anyone wanting to start a series.:) The staff are pretty attentive and will greet you at the door too, which is a plus.

They sold out of the comic book variant I was looking for on release date in less than an hour, so I only wish they had ordered more.

I @$#! $ love this place. Every time I've gone in I've asked for some recommendations and they have hit it out of the park. They carry some eclectic titles and tons of common ones. I recommend going to the basement and rooting around. You'll find some gems.

Went for a book signing for the author of Scott pilgrim, massive line up down and around the back of the building. The place had a good selection from what I saw when inside, but… something didn’t sit right with me seeing who I presume to be the owner being an absolute prick, a menace to all these customers about masks… in late 2023! His face was just, bright red and mad. I don’t think I’ll ever forget his expression, under his construction grade, particle filtering dust mask… He’s clearly stuck in March 2020. Looking at some other reviews, seems like this is a common occurrence. I really, really don’t get it and not looking to ruin my day over a confrontation, I’m surprised he didn’t kick out the author for not wearing a mask at the book signing, Glad to have not spent a dollar in there and won’t return until they realize what year they’re in and learn how to treat customers.

Comics, books, graphic novels, tons of selection, weekly comics, pull bins.

Friendly ish staff seem to be run on fear from the owner, see for yourself.

They also have bronze silver and golden age comics. CGC slabs, the basement is inaccessible to wheel chair.

There is a basement with a large selection of back issues. Pretty much everything has been picked over and over so good luck finding any keys or really anything of value down there.

There also tends to be a lot of clutter, and there is a charge for bags and boards for your comics! Blah

It’s 2023 and the government has lifted all mandates for masks. Wasn’t able to go inside as the store has a mask mandatory policy. I didn’t have a mask as the pandemic is over and 99% of businesses have gone back to normal. You’re not the government or police. You have no legal right to put your “opinions” on others. Ashamed.

Really nice costumer service. This is my favourite comic store. Has a really good variety of books and if you have trouble finding something they help you find what you’re looking for.

Love the place so so much! They have a huge selection, both comics and manga. They also have a pretty extensive collection of zines from local/Canadian artists, which I’ve not seen anywhere and is something I look forward to browsing every time I’m in store. Even if they don’t have a title you’re looking for, they’ll help you order it, and will notify you when it arrives. I also got some postcards by the register and thought they were so cute. I do wish they carried some more posters haha

I grew up at the snail, but, <WoW! > this place looks to be 4 times the volume! And the staff are decent and very knowledgeable; you can tell that they're a team who gel together. My comic book days are in the past, but this is the place where I'll buy for gifting!

I Love this store! Many obscure wonders that reside in this store. Ive only been here about two times but each time i find it impossible to leave. They have every type of book/comic imaginable with some of the most out their concepts I've ever witnessed in this life time. This store has many works from local artist and is quite communal which i majorly appreciate, the store is a really safe space where writers can express themselves with no tight guidelines. Like they sell EVERYTHING in here, any topic you could imagine. Staff is also so professional and kind and also add to the very laidback and calming bookstore atmosphere.

For anyone with special interests in zines, comics, manga etc its a must! They also made comics accessible by having the 50c comic boxes outside as alot of the time the library doesnt have whole series or any at all and buying comics can be extremely inaccessible for many so was really cool place to go!

Who is this Alex the grader? 3rd party grading companies are used to avoid any huge gap between sellers and buyers. Telling me that Alex needs to look at my graded comic (CGC 9.4) is truely a 9.4 because 3rd party might be wrong. Yes I can understand that 3rd party can make mistakes but how often? Sounds like an excuse to buy low and sell high to me.

After reading another customers interaction with your Alex the grader. (missing books, missing bags and board which results in damaged comic after deciding not to sell the collection to Beguiling) Really.have respect other peoples property even if they decide not to sell their collection to you.

The intent was to buy ASM 4,31,41 and 1st swamp thing knowing it's over priced because I just wanted it in my collection. After the 3rd party grader services discussion and reading some of the 1 stars Beguiling got, I will be shopping else where.

Probably the coolest store in the whole city. Huge selection - indie comics, manga, American superhero comics, artbooks, zines, you name it! The small press releases they carry are a real treat. They also have a whole section dedicated to younger readers.
Highly recommended!

The Beguiling is an amazing bookstore!

The customer service they provide is excellent. They keep their customers informed of the status of their orders and are willing to answer any questions customers may have. They take pride in their shipping as I received multiple orders shipped with care. The employees ensured my books were packaged neatly and wrapped so they would not damage during shipping! I am also grateful that I am supporting a Canadian business as well!

A brilliantly curated store for lovers of sequential art and the graphic storytelling medium. Don't miss digging through the 50-cent bins outside, but also check out the amazing selection inside too.

Sensory overload as a first time visitor.
Taken to the location by my friends, and was overwhelmed by the selection available.
Staff were incredibly helpful, and although I did not make a purchase on my first visit, I will be ordering from them as they have hard manga that my son is really looking for.

They exaggerated what they have over the phone, and were rude and dismissive when I arrived. Told me they had the comics I wanted in a box downstairs, and would get them for me when I arrived. When I arrived they told me to get them myself, to which I said no problem, but they wouldn’t let me in because I didn’t have a mask for myself or my 4 year old. They are the only store in the entire neighborhood that still makes every person no matter the age wear a mask. No one around the area is wearing one anymore. They’re also weirdly rude about it, seem to want to fear monger and virtue signal, despite the rest of the world going back to normal and moving forward. It’s also a real pain to get there and park if you are driving. I wasted about two hours of my Saturday, will not return.

Only allows customers that use a mask even though it’s not mandatory in Toronto now. Lost a client for life.

Staff were very helpful and friendly, they have many obscure titles that i wasn’t sure i’d find in stores at a good price!

Another reviewer called this place “paradise for comics lovers” and I think that just about sums it up. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful, and they have an amazing collection of odd and hard-to-find comics and zines from around the globe. Whilst there I had to work hard to decide which items I would buy because there were so many I thought I’d never see again. The selection of more mainstream books is also vast (Fanta, D+Q, etc). I could easily have spent $1000 and still felt like I was leaving gems on the shelf. Probably good for my finances that I don’t live in Toronto) But will def be back next time I’m in town!

The best of all the comic stores I hit in Toronto. I'm used to the big selections of the NY/NJ/PA comic stores, this is on par with the best of them.

This place has a good selection of older marvel silver age comics but not graded by CGC so for a serious collector forget about this place. The place is run by rude people too. Keep asking to put my mask on when most of toronto is maskless. Never coming to this store again.

A beacon of hope for lovers of art and comics alike! They have a wide array of books, several of them rare enough that you'd be hard pressed to find them worldwide (and I tried).

The Beguiling also displays a variety of zines from smaller artists, and that means a lot, as an artist myself.

Another thing I appreciate is that this store takes covid seriously. The city may remove precautions, but stores like this make me regain hope in humanity.

Great comic book store with very friendly and helpful staff. I would highly recommend you pay them a visit.

This is by far the best comic book store in Toronto.
The main picture is of their old location in Mirvish village. They are now located on college just west of Spadina.
They have the widest selection of the weekly releases, manga, graphic novels and they have a children's bookstore.
They do special orders and have a tons of back issues.
Service is very personal but they can be a bit shy. Very knowledgeable so don't be afraid to ask.
Some treasures in the cases and behind the payment area.

It looked like a nice place, but the shop was closed for browsing on the day i was there. I was visiting Toronto from Montreal and spent time and energy walking there basically for nothing.they should indicate their real opening times clearer online. It was pretty frustrating seeing their nice collection but not be able to peruse

Great place has alot of books for those who are both getting into Manga and those who have been reading it for a long time.

I have been using this store for my new comics for about 4 months, and they have never gotten my pull list correct. Yesterday was the last straw with over half my books missing. It's no surprise brick and mortar stores are dying with such terrible customer service.

Great selection of comics and fair pricing! My only complaint is their customer service. I asked them about the grade of a comic and they would not give me an answer. They said the prices match the grade yet would not tell me the grade. They also added a remark that I should know what the grade is for what I'm buying. This is unacceptable customer service as I don't have much knowledge of grading comics as I collect for a hobby. A customer should know why the store prices their comics as they do. This felt unwelcoming.

This place is a dream come true for manga readers and collectors. The Beguiling offers a vast selection of comics and manga for all ages. Plus they have some pretty cool art for sale.

This is a really nice store that does a lot for the Toronto community, especially for the kids. They have a large selection of stuff, the most that I'm aware of for in-store shopping in the GTA area. I only give them 4 stars because their prices are not very competitive. I believe they can do better than cover prices, especially the bloated Canadian cover prices on books, manga and graphic novels.

The online shop is pretty good too, easy to search for stuff and the information is well-populated as you can enter author names too.

Happy to find volumes for a less popular series that was out of stock everywhere else. Friendly and responsive customer service for online orders. Highly recommend!

I’ve been to several comic book stores in Toronto and this one is by far my favorite in the area! They have a spacious store stocked with diverse graphic novels, mangas, and comic books. The staff are approachable, helpful, and knowledgeable. Came here today to try my luck and get some rare finds, and managed to find what I was looking for in their large selection in the basement! I’m very pleased with my purchase and will visit again.

The only thing I hope they could make clearer on the website and on here is that for now, they’re only open for in-store shopping on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays (as I was told in store). Other days they’re only open for pick up at the window.

The staff are super friendly. And not only do they have zines and comics, they got a wonderful selection of art books! Getting lost here guaranteed me a new source of inspiration

Most reliable and friendly book store I've ever been to! They have a very extensive catalogue and pre-orders for unpublished items are usually available on their website, so be careful to not get too carried away. Or do, reading is great! Would highly recommend them. Support your local bookstores!

Their online services are spectacular. I contacted them regarding their online original art and they were easy to work with and extremely helpful. They got back to me very quickly, which was impressive since other online places I tried contacting were taking their time to get back with me. They answered all my questions and got back to in a very timely fashion. Jim was amazing and very helpful in guiding me with my purchase. I received the item in safe and quick shipping fashion. I highly recommend them for comic book and original art items. I hope to visit their store in person one day and thank them personally. They are honestly such a cute little comic book shop. They're like a little secret I didn't know about until a few months ago. I don't go often but when I do go, they have a lot of newer and older comics that hits you in a good way. They're definitely the comic book place to beat. Plus they're kid friendly

The Beguiling has quickly become my favourite comic book store in the city. They have practically everything, it is all organized in an easy-to-find manner, the staff are all really nice and approachable, and their location is simple to get to by transit. The only problem I have with The Beguiling is that I can't help but spend too much money whenever I go, so I have to try to limit my visits to only about once a month.

What makes The Beguiling so great is not only its dedication to wide-ranging stock & availability, but its high-end staff. I would probably help them move apartments, or pick them up from the airport, if they asked. They are just that nice.

The books here allow me to escape from the reality of my life. Drown out the shame with the comics here!

Don't bother trying to find valuable books when they're having a sale. The store owner will stop you from buying the book when you check out while at the same time accuse you of being a "flipper".

Beguiling (Little Island Comics) has always been a staple comic shop in Toronto. I've been knowing them for their new DC releases, but from what I have seen, are broad in their non-DC, Marvel, and Dark Horse collection. The only criticism I have; they only have new comics. Which means full price. GET SOME MORE SECOND HAND STUFF.

Everything you could want from a mom and pop shop but this definitely is NOT mom & pop shop it is more. All types of literature and It always feels like a cozy little cottage with helpful staff.

It's a great store just know that not all of the books they have are being displayed in the bookshelves o make sure to ask if they have a specific volume available. For example, they only had two volumes of grand blue on the shelves but they had all the seven which are currently out available for purchase. Furthermore, you can pre-order an upcoming manga volume, novel or comic and get 20 percent off!

Courteous service provided by knowledgeable staffs. Always a pleasure to shop and find comics book at Beguiling. They even have some older manga selections in addition to the new releases. I brought a list in, buddy couldn't answer a single question, and he was extremely rude. Needless to say they had a deal that had expired the day before and he wouldnt even honor it. I think this place is total bogus, avoid it at all costs.

I've been going to The Beguiling for over a decade. They've got a great selection, whether you're looking for mainstream superhero titles or indie publications and zines. The staff is friendly and helpful and willing to order comics for you if they're out of stock. If you're looking for comics for kids and tweens, their sister store Little Island Comics is right next door. Best of all, The Beguiling provides a space to enjoy comics that's welcoming and comfortable for everyone. It's my favourite store in Toronto and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Great selection of old and new. I picked up a whole run of single issues sold together for a great price.

Cute and quaint little comic book store. It looks small from the outside but has a fairly big collection of comics and anything you could ask for inside. The staff are also knowledgable of the comics.
