I had such a wonderful time thanks to our amazing server! They really went above and beyond, making our meal extra special. And oh, the food was just fantastic too!
I'm not generally a fan of pub food or pub atmosphere. These places are usually dark and gloomy and the fryer oil is seldom changed. Blake House is an exception. Atmosphere was almost lively, service was absolutely excellent and the food was top notch. But given the historical setting, the menu prices and the decor I think some of the staff should dress a bit less "laundry day" casual.
Not my 1st time / won't be my last Food - appropriate size and tasty Service - perfectly timed Atmosphere - I found it ideal for my late lunch with a friend I hadn't seen in years
This place is fairly close to me so it has been on my rotation for a little while. Food is regular pub fair which is fine, pretty good beer selection, usually I'm just able to walk in without reservatios. Very cozy during winter and good service.
I couldn’t tell you how many times we have been to the Blake House for a meal. Unfortunately we had our first bad experience. The service and atmosphere was as good as usual, but we were less than impressed with our dinner. We had the fish cake special as an appetizer which was quite tasty and ordered fish and chips. We haven’t ordered fish and chips at the Blake house before, but thought we would try it. We ate it but neither of us enjoyed it. The fish was incredibly greasy and the French fries were not great either. As we were leaving we saw a table receive fish and chips. Their meal looked completely different than ours. Their fish and chips looked crispy and quite tasty. We are wondering if they served us leftovers from the lunch menu for dinner that was reheated. Needless to say we were disappointed with our meal. It’s a shame they had always been so consistent. This unfortunate experience was on June 30.
Gorgeous patio right on Jarvis. The food was incredible we tried the fish and chips and the nachos, large portions and very good tartar sauce. Service is friendly and prompt
Food is great and quick to arrive. However, 2 of my items were brought incorrectly, and pricing in-store is more expensive than pricing online, which is quite disappointing.
The Blake House is a hidden gem in downtown Toronto. With a wood burning fireplace, great food, and a cozy intimate atmosphere in such a spacious and beautiful restaurant, this is the ONLY place I want to hangout over the upcoming winter months. The carrot and ginger soup was the best soup I’ve ever had in my life and I’d come back for it alone, the vegetarian spring rolls were surprisingly amazing and came with a perfect sweet chilli sauce, the mac and cheese was delicious and filling, and my friend loved their steak dinner. Bonnie, our server and the restaurant’s bartender was unbelievably kind, welcoming, and made us feel extremely well taken care of! It’s not often in Toronto that you get such amazing service, so when you do it really stands out! Bonnie answered all my questions about the vegetarian options on the menu and even thought of better ones like asking the kitchen if they made the mac and cheese with chicken broth, which they don’t (it’s all vegetarian) but how kind and considerate for even thinking about that! She was going above and beyond with her service without ever once seeming strained to do so and it made the night so comfortable, fun, and enjoyable! I will request to sit in Bonnie’s section again next time if it’s possible!
A generally inoffensive restaurant with okay prices and food you won't be upset at, but won't rave about either. Nothing special, but won't do you wrong either. Girlfriend and I got a classic Eggs Benedict and a smoked salmon Benedict (an Eggs Benjamin). Skip the Benjamin, get the classic back bacon instead.
A very popular brunch place in the area, serving incredibly savory dishes and with a top notch customer service. We've been to Toronto twice in the past couple of weeks and on both occasions had the pleasure of visiting Blake House and be delighted by everything - only nuisance is that the present construction work on Jarvis makes it slightly inconvenient to locate it, or even see if from the street while driving.
Recently came to this spot for a date with my partner. It was such a wonderful atmosphere and the service was very quick. We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation, willing to wait, and they found us a patio seat right away. The food was delicious. Highly recommend the fish and chips! We liked it so much, we ordered pick up from them 2 days later (which was also very delicious)
Great service! Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable and recommended a delicious dipping sauce for our fries. Food was delicious, I had a burger and fries and it was only $15. They also had beer and juice, including a refreshing cranberry soda. Also a nice patio. I would go back for sure. Well run pub. (Wel) L run pubbard
Historic pub with a nice large patio. Affordable drinks, and a very good selection, with friendly staff who follow safe covid practices while still creating a fun environment.
Always great. We have been here many times. This time we just stopped by for a couple of drinks and an appetizer. By the way, we just tried the calamari. It was awesome…probably the most tender calamari we have had in years. Melissa was our waitress. She was very attentive and a great server.
It's a friendly little neighbourhood joint with a nice patio. Perfect for lunch, dinner, or drinks. It's a family-run business, and from going there many times during the pandemic, you can tell they have a real passion for making the dining experience enjoyable. I'm happy to support this establishment.
So friendly and happy service staff. Willing to help you enjoy your night as best as you can. Hope they can get more support and people can enjoy their beautiful outdoor patio.
The service was awesome. Our waiter (from Brazil) was a sweetheart - sorry I didn’t get your name. The owner gave us a personal guided tour of the history of The Blake House. We ordered the Chicken Sliders to share - they were very tasty. I had the Chickpea and Arugula salad with Chicken and my wife had the Chicken Pot Pie. For dessert we shared the Toffee Pudding. All delicious! Good size portions and very nice presentation. We’re looking forward to coming back for brunch soon.
Had complaints in the past, but tonight was the last straw. Food was rushed, hadn’t finished our appetisers and the Mains were brought out. Ordered a drink, never arrived. Went inside to let one of the owners know the issue and left it at that. I didn’t want our friends to be involved in issues with my issue with the service level, he then then came to the table, I said I didn’t want to discuss with him at the table. I later went and spoke with him, his reasoning.they have the lesser educated staff working on a Monday! He then approached the table later on to make a big fuss that he has not charged us for the appetisers, again did exactly what I requested he shouldn’t do i.e. Come to the table to discuss with the whole party there. My advice, stay clear of this place on a Monday and in the summer time, winter time the service is great and the food is good.
Lovely setting with very friendly staff. The chicken sliders and creme brulee were to die for but the main courses were just ok. Not bad, just medium. Maybe I expected more. That being said it was a lovely experience overall. I recommend checking them out.
Great food and vibes at this restaurant. The menu is quite diverse, and there are a good number of specials which the staff are more than happy to recommend. Service is great, and the staff are really friendly as well! Prices are on the premium end, and there is a popular patio out front. Definitely worth checking out if you're in Toronto!
Excellent pub! Great happy hour specials. The server Jamie was absolutely amazing. So kind and courteous, he went above and beyond what we are use to these days with servers. Overall thoroughly enjoyed, will return again!
Patio is really nice, food is good, staff not so good, most of them seem inexperienced. For example I returned a stake that was overcooked, and server used word SH*T to describe the situation. I was shocked.
Ambiance and service are good. Patio is nice in warm weather. Food is decent - basic, but well done. We were here on a Friday lunch, booked a reservation, and the service was very, very slow. All in all a good option if you’re not in a rush.
I've been to the Blockhouse many times and the food is usually quite good but this time in particular the food was not. I ordered from there reduced Pride brunch menu which was actually quite pitiful in terms of choice. The eggs benedict was the most revolting thing I've ever tasted. The hollandaise sauce was thin and sour. The only thing that redeemed it was the service.
I have been there on two different occasions with two different results: on the first occasion, I was seen by a server 30 minutes after being seated, and food was served an hour later. On the second occasion, I was seen after being seated 20 minutes later, and the food arrived 50 minutes later. Although the food did taste amazing, I wasn't too jazzed about the wait times.
The stuff is not welcoming. Burger was burnt, French Canadian soup was greasy. The beer is okay. I had all the above + some sort of “Guinness pie” and paid 60$. Would not recommend.
The service was fine, she was busy with a large table so may have been better. The steak pot pie was good, but the clubhouse wasn't cut in quarters and the mayo was on the side. The calamari was ok, a little on the greasy side.
Far from the best prime rib I've had. When first served it seamed to be ok, however if I turned it over I world have found that approximately 50% was fat. I usually don't provide bad reviews however no apologies were given. As far as I could see there is only street parking.
A group of us went there after a funeral. 15-20 people. They were very accommodating, the food was awesome and the service was great. The burger, the corned beef sandwich and the fish n chips all received rave reviews. Recommended. ️
I had my intimate party here for 30 people. The manager was so accomodating and presented us different menu packages according to our budget and preferences. My guests totally enjoyed the yummy food, great value and service. I would highly recommend the Blakehouse for your next venue to celebrate!
Excellent food, for amazing value. It can get a little noisy when it's busy. The Monti cristo sandwich is always a great brunch or lunch choice. The portion is generous, but you won't want to share!
Nice place, nice staff, food was hit or miss though. The Irish nachos we're tasty but the chicken wrap was bland and the fries were very salty. Still had a good time though.
Wonderful cozy atmosphere. A refurbished house makes for a unique and enjoyable dinner setting. Diverse and well thought out menu with a mix of various flavours
Great place. Lots of history behind the doors, great food, great eployees, large party room in the basement. Easy to miss this gem since its on jarvis. But, keep an eye out. Well worth the visit!
The building is beautiful, but the inside doesn't feel like it matches. The food is good, but not fine enough to justify the slightly smaller portion sizes. Prices are very reasonable.
I'd recommend this place for friendly hangouts, but not for impressing a date, an intimate dinner, or a special occasion.
Everything was great - atmosphere, food and service. We went for Winterlicious 2019, but my friends and I would come back another time as the regular pricing is also reasonable.
Really affordable prices for the quality of their food and for being Pub food, but they add a good personal touch on it. Good atmosphere for a casual dinner with a date or friends.
Went for brunch. Eggs and all brunch items are pretty standard.maybe a bit overpriced for what you get. Standard fair with good service. Perfect for a Sunday morning brunch
This place was amazing! I had the Brie wrap for lunch and my partner had steak and eggs, both were perfect! Mike showed us around and was very accommodating.
Winterlicious - Delicious! I went to the Blake House on Saturday night with my wife. We are in our mid-40s and consider ourselves sophisticated diners and we both have very high expectations. The Blake House definitely exceeded our standards in both service and quality. My wife had the bacon-wrapped filet mignon, and I had the linguine with shrimp and lobster. The server was sensitive to my wife's dietary restrictions and accommodated us without any problems. When the food arrived, both dishes were expertly prepared and tasted amazing. The atmosphere of the restaurant is cosy and very well maintained. Considering that the meal was relatively inexpensive to boot, I would even go so far to say this may be the best value around in downtown Toronto. Judging by how packed the place was, I was probably not the only one to think this. I will gladly go back anytime.
We went to the Blake house for winterlicious on a Friday night.as we arrived the host was super friendly and gave us up-to-date information as they were looking to give us a booth as requested in our reservation.with winterlicious we got a three-course meal. We all started with the fish cakes which were delicious. The main course I had the vegetarian pot pie, and the other two had the steak and lamb. All meals we're very large portion and delicious. For dessert we all got the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream, how can you go wrong? !
it was a nice place in a nice atmosphere one side was more bar-ish and the other more of a sit-down restaurant feel.
Nice atmosphere and good service! Food was pretty good. The cook on the filet mignon was as requested (medium-rare), nice grill marks. The roasted potatoes were okay, not much flavour but good texture. The roasted vegetables were also just okay. Nice variety, but more of a steamed vegetable than roasted. Thankfully, the side came with a peppercorn sauce. It was quite tasty and added flavour to the potatoes!
