Tried this place last month with a friend and there was a long hair in my grilled cheese. It was so disgusting I couldn't even finish my meal. Because of that, I won't ever be back and won't be reccomending it. Human hair in food is just an absolute no.
This place was our gold standard for fries that rivaled the chip truck, and once in a while, a grilled cheese sandwich. The fries still hold true, but the sandwich bread was hard and chewy, the cheese barely there any more, and the sandwich went up by $3 (from $5 to $8). Will probably only get fries in the future.
Love this place! It uses local produce and is a local business. They have tons of options for any type of eater and serves great grilled cheeses and hamburgers for the side. I always go for the side bun with my soup, it's always worth it! You can also ask to taste samples to see which soups you like. Great service, though best to order ahead online to avoid the line ups, because they are small store fronts they get busy quickly. Highly recommended
Good place with lots of vegetarian options… a tiny bit questionable though as they label their ‘grana padano’ as vegetarian? Hmmm… not sure why they do this… I even asked the cashier but she didn’t seem to know much about it… I had to avoid it and got the mushroom soup… which was good!
The fries are probably the best in Hamilton. Delicious and perfectly sized and fried. They're really, really good. The burger is good, but nothing crazy or super special. Basic and tasty. The curry ketchup is a great dip, as is the Dutch mayo. It's definitely better than HAMBRGR, The Works, Five Guys, and the same price. Still, will be back and recommend this spot. I'll be back to try the soups!
Good soup and my kid loves the creamy tomato soup with pasta! She finished it all with her bread. Not a place for meat lover though, but definitely for soup lovers.
Great spot for lunch on a chilly day.tried their tomato soup, which was the best I’ve ever tried, the grilled cheese was bigger than expected for the price and the fries are great, not too crispy but not too soggy. The atmosphere is nice, it’s a pickup counter with tables to sit at. Overall it was a great meal with fair prices, I would love to try their full menu of soups eventually.
Phenomenal soup and burger joint. 5 or so daily soups to choose from. Usually a vegan option or two (these sellout quick). Some soups for purchase by the litre to take home. A couple of burger options. My son's love them. Fries with curry ketchup are amazing. Salad option. Pop available. Limited seating that fills up fast. Great to go/take out spot on those lazy days. Staff are always helpful and friendly. Very clean.
It’s so wonderful to have burnt tongue in Hamilton. Best quality soup, great variety. The tomato tortellini is a must have. The burgers are great too. Always great quality! Hope to see a branch in Toronto!
Went for takeout here, and got a soup, sandwich, and salad. While the food was pretty good, the cashier was a little rude to me, which kind of ruined the experience. I will likely not go back here for the rudeness alone, even if the food was good.
*Update - Emailed the restaurant as requested because "they want to make it right" and haven't heard anything in 10 days. One thing to post publicly that you feel bad about something and another to actually do something about it. *
Love the food. Unfortunately the last few times I have been in the service front of house has been truly terrible and bad enough for me to not go back (to this location at least). Some examples - missing items in take out orders, no offer to problem solve when I call them to get money back as the order was placed online, to not even being acknowledged by staff at all when waiting in person in the restaurant.
The Burnt Tongue never disappoints. Their soups are amazing, but don't forget to try their sandwiches and fries too! The staff is super friendly and I love that they have vegetarian and vegan options every day. If you have allergies, they have a book with a detailed list of all ingredients so you can check that as well.
I found a black hair in my soup! My hair is far from black and short so it’s not mine. I was so hungry I ate the whole soup and the realized there’s a hair I want to throw up. Never coming back again, also the vaccination passports take much to long to verify especially with elderly people and you only have 1 line for orders, making everything bottle neck even when you order ahead of time but have to pay inside.
I was not a real soup guy, then I went to Burnt Tongue and am now a soup guy. Go for the soups (recently the tomato soup was the bomb), but the burgers, french onion grilled cheese and carrot cake ice cream sandwich are also very good. This is one of my favourite places in Hamilton.
Have you done the choices matrix? That with the combination of daily soups keeps us going back again again and again. Awesome soupas and classic burgers. Oh and you can’t go wrong with the Bangkok fries if you want to never experience other fries again.
The variety of soups available with rotating menus is always a pleasure to try. This time I tried the Wild Mushroom Chowder and a grilled cheese sandwich with Jalapeno.
A pleasant meal on a cold or rainy day. Service was great.
Two days out of three this week.all soups are delicious, fresh buns or veggies as sides, and must try are their grilled cheese sandwiches. Friendly staff as well. Dine in (limited due to COVID) or takeout. No deliveries.
There was this Saucy French fry that really hit it home. Everything else was meh. The people there are really nice though and they maintained masks and other stuff way better than some of the Food joints I’ve recently been to.
Amazing! We've gotten into the habit of grabbing some soup and going on hikes, and it always sits very well! They always have loads of creative soups, and not one that we've had has been disappointing. They also sell take home bags, which are good for about three portions.
Absolutely unreal every single time. So so good. The soup hits the soul and the burgers hit the spot. The French fries and desserts are mental. If you haven't been, go ASAP! 10/10 service and food.
A great balance of quality, tastiness, and value! Love their grilled cheese and hamburgers. The soups are excellent too! My only feedback, as someone who's a bit picky about food texture, is I wish there were more soup options that were purée.
The food at the burnt tongue is consistently delicious - we frequently pick up after work and have never had anything other than a great meal. The ice cream sandwiches are particularly tasty - we always get them and never, ever regret it. Thanks burnt tongue!
First time visitor, absolutely delicious! I had the onion and bacon soup. It was creamy, and pure deliciousness. I ordered a grilled cheese as well, and could have done half of one instead of full, but i ate every bite!
We arrived at the restaurant later in the evening. By that time most of their soups were sold out. So a little disappointed by that. But the staff was very friendly. They made up for it with their quick service and good size portions. We also got extra grilled cheese. Because we were there closer to closing time.
Always so good! Super duper sweet staff who make delicious and fresh food. You can never go wrong here! I forgot to take a photo before digging in, but I couldn’t wait! Thai soup with tomato pesto grilled cheese.
I’ve heard how great the burnt tongue restaurant was, but I needed to try it myself, and I’m so glad I did! My first time at the Locke Street location. I had the cauliflower soup, it was amazing! To top it all off, the staff were extremely helpful when I asked their option on the soup and asking how I was liking it, very nice group of people. I definitely recommend this restaurant!
Soup and grilled cheese (with fries, burgers and salads as options as well). How has no one thought of this earlier? Burnt tongue is probably my favourite place to eat in Hamilton. The variety of soups and the lovely staff keep me very happy and obviously coming back for more! Recommend to EVERYONE.
A "mind blowing, perfect deliciousness ratio from your first bite to your last bite" burger. The Deluxe single: no onions, no tomato, no pickle. Add cheese, bacon, grilled onions & pickled jalapenos. Trust; all those internet burgers got you craving that heavenly bite. Look no further. My vote for Best Burger and Fries in Hamilton currently, and yes I'm a huge fan of their friendly neighbour Delirious Burgers, who have moved to 2nd on my list. This review is for the Locke location.
Brought my kids here a couple times now. The grilled cheese is their favorite. I really enjoy a plate of fries with my soup and funds it one of the more economical family dinners to have out. The staff have always been great with the kids, the soups I've enjoyed just an overall pleasant experience everytime I've been.
The best fries I've ever had. Their soups are delicious with different soups posted daily on their instagram, but make sure you ask to see them before you order, as the flavour descriptions may not be what you pictured.
Nice inviting and simple decor. Simple menu but yet has options for people with dietary restrictions. Really nice staff. The soup menu is extensive and was really really good.
I've been hearing from this place from some time now, today finally went to check it by myself. Not disappointing at all. For a joint that specializes in soups, they truly do an excellent job. Great ambiance, extremely friendly staff, fast service and most importantly, great food, homemade, hearthy and delicious soups. Definitely worth the trip. I highly recommend.
I've never tried a soup here that I didn't absolutely love. The menu changes daily with great vegetarian/vegan options. They serve the best fries (the Bangkok fries are outstanding in both flavour and portion size category), and have the best service. 5 stars for both locations.
Great staff. Great food-i had a medium Manhattan clam chowder with a bun on the side. Soup was hot, bun was warm! Perfect! Very good and useful online presence where the media feed posts the instore menu offerings for the day.
Their food is good, it's prices reasonably but the overall flavor on most of the soups is very similar or lacking in seasoning at times. I would still highly recommend Burnt Tongue and I've gone several times and been mostly pleased with everything I've had.
Went today had two burgers 3 pops and fries total was $30 I paid $1 for cheese on the burgers and received 1/2 slice of a Kraft single on each burger which were over cooked and dry Each 4 oz burger ended up costing $8 Overpriced food, which was mediocre at best would not recommend
I enjoy their soups and dill pickle poutine, BUT depending on who makes it, they put so much onion in the poutine that the onion defeats the taste of the dill pickle and aioli. I just ask for no onion and the two girls in the kitchen apparently thought there was something wrong with me today? Rudeee
Had a half grilled cheese and their split pea rosemary soup.was AMAZING! Friendly staff, tonnes of Vegan/Vegetarian options for everyone's dietary needs.
The green curry soup today was spicy yet flavorless and the chilli was so bland it was hardly worth eating. The burger and grilled cheese were also very boring. The quality doesn't justify the price tag at all. If I hadn't had a better experience here in the past I would give 1 star.
The food isnt bad but isn't anything unique. It's a nice spot to get a quick meal and enjoy an elevated fast food experience. The food took a little while to arrive even though there isn't anything complicated with it but the service made up for it.
Great place! I've tried several of their soups and they've all been good. The staff are really friendly and it usually doesn't take too long to get your food even during busy times. Seating can be limited, but you can always get your soup to-go.
I LOVE this place. Not only is the soup fantastic, but the menu is constantly changing so there's always something new to love.
Ots a great place to take my young family. I have two boys aged 5 and 1 and we were totally welcome, helped with high chairs and paper towels for the inevitable spills with no sour faces.
Fantastic soup! Awesome atmosphere. Sometimes a bit of a wait for tables but worth it. Great for lunch, the sides such as grilled cheese or fries are excellent too.
You'll come for the soup and stay for the burgers. Amazing soups amazing sandwiches and burgers. Cool soft drinks to pair with them and don't get me started on dem fries. Bravo Burnt Tongue, and they rep 905 to the fullest!
