The Captain's Boil

The food at this restaurant was amazing. My friends visiting from outside the country, loved everything. The waitress was very impatient with my friends who are not fluent in English. The waitress made us nervous and feel like we were wasting her time, even though the restaurant was empty on a Monday night. The food was great, it’s my favorite restaurant. The atmosphere was just right. Other than the waitress, everything else was great!

The taste is good but portions are very small.
If you’re ordering boil go straight to the mussels and do not order anything else, especially not mix and match.they will give a lot of Chicken that are dry.
They also give huge potatoes pieces, and usually those are not cooked fully in the centre. I ordered 2 mix and match, both potatoes weren’t cooked through. After talking to the waitress I was reimbursed with two very large potatoes boiled in water without any flavour added to it.
Definitely a very strange experience.
Ordering guide if you want seafood to fill you up:
1. Get the all you can eat (42$), chose mussels and clams only.
2. Order boil, chose mussel as main, pick your favourite flavour and spiciness, git boiled egg as side. This will maximize the amount of mussels/clams you can get.

The Captain's Boil was a great place food was expensive but well worth the price. If you don't understand the pricing or menu the staff are amazing at explaining it. They are very good at being aware of allergies as well

Got seated in 5 minutes then when we were ready to order we were told we would have to wait 15 minutes before we get to place our order.

This was my first experience eating seafood boil and damn we need this in quebec city.it was delicious! And there was sooooo much food, we had to take some of it home

Tried out a Boil of Snow Crab Legs, the Lobster Poutine, and Cajun Chicken Tenders. Crab legs were perfectly cooked, corn and egg on the side were also nice additions. The spicy Cajun sauce was to die for, pairs well with everything! The lobster poutine was amazing, especially the gravy and cheese blend, but they skimped on the lobster (bummer!). Chicken tenders were also good but rather typical. Service was prompt and friendly. Overall, a great place to satisfy anyone's seafood cravings!

It's definitely the spiciest one. The price isn't cheap, but it's delicious.

My son and I went there last night before a concert for dinner. Was not offered a drink. Gave us water in paper coke cups. Were supplied with paper plates, plastic bags, plastic cutlery, plastic bibs and gloves. Each got a sizzler plate. My rice was burnt to the bottom of the plate and tasted old. The crawfish was also really bad. Small portions and very expensive. It was a fun dining experience with the bibs and gloves but we wont be returning.

Turned away. Arrived at 7. Server came to check vaccine at the door at 720. Warned us kitchen close at 8. Basically said couldn't sit us. I said even though we'll be sitting before kitchen close and order goes in?
She had to confirm with someone else. But our taste was already sour due to this attitude of not wanting to sit us.

Serving in plastic bags and still got thousands of reviews with 4+ ratings average? That tells a lot about the exceptional taste and food quality they’re making, enough to overcompensate the inconvenience and guilt about the plastic bag servings, you know. I was a bit unpleasantly surprised when the food came (didnt read the reviews prior to our visits) but the food was soooooo good I happily forgave the plastic bags.

This is handsdown the freshest seafood you can get. Its meaty, juicy, very well-seasoned and the sauces were just simply mind-blowing. I was craving for crab and this just fulfills my cravings with satisfaction. Cant be happier. Its good for 4 people and more. If you come in as a couple, you may not be able to get to try the crab (take the dungeness ones, they r the best!) unless you order the 4 people’s portion (Pirate’s) which me and my husband did order its $50/pax on average (if you comein group of 4, which is the number of people the portion was designed for) including drinks and good tips. We stuffed our tummies extra that day and took home almost half of the oversized meal (as can be seen in the photo).

I was prepared for a good meal as I saw asian mamas and grandmas were sitting inside, but it still surprised me for the quality of the meal:)

Remember things not to order in ANY seafood restaurant: exotic-looking-yet-full-of-shells-and-lacking-taste stuff like crawl fish/ king crab/ snow crab. Take my advice, im an experienced foodie who knows many chefs and people in FnB:) if you order these, not just in Captains Boil but any other restaurant, you’ll probably end up complaining about it being pricey, not worth the money lol

The staff was friendly. You better come early because they may run out of seats fast. We arrived that day at around 4: 30-5pm ish. Will be back definitely!

Food was great! Servers looked that they are lost and confused all the time, if you go there make sure your the food you get is what you ordered!

Not was I was expected. Chicken and potato blend, prawn just ok. Will not come back. Price/quality: really bad

Pricey. I guess you can expect that since they serve fish but I'm not sure it was worth it. That said, they do have huge portions! I don't recommend trying any of the spicy sauces because it just over powers any of the other flavours you've added to the dish. We really enjoyed their fried rice though.

If i could I would put zero star the waitress didnt know how to explain the menu no platter at all the price has been up soooo much the food was disgusting i asked for garlic suse they put 2 pound garlic in the dishes n most of shell was empty inside n they cover it with full of garlic u couldnt see food u could see garlic only, they charge us $109 for 6 shrimp n so many empty shall i never ever going there, i asked for salt the waitress forget to bring it when we ask our bill she brought salt, if u wanna through ur money in garbage go there

Too pricey for mediocre or bad quality of seafood. Only shrimp was ok quality, snow crab foot, mussels are all not fresh at all! Made me sick after meal.

Nothing seriously bad, but dine in here will make you sure there're big space to improve in customer experience

Delicious for any seafood lover. Would recommend going with friends and getting the captains feast, for the record, the hottest spice on the menu was not spicy at all, we will be returning for the secret spice level volcano. All the food is fresh and perfect!

Food in a plastic bag with plastic gloves? Come on I prefer a regular plate and tools. Food taste good but plastic bag is disgusting, like eating garbage

The food was not tasty and fresh as before, the chicken was very old to eat, and the service was terrible. The waitresses were not patient at all. They barely didn’t wanna stay one more second if you don’t order immediately. Don’t recommend this store.

WORST customer service ever! You should really teach your staff how to treat customer with better attitude, especially for Siena.

One of the best seafood places in Canada, i loved the idea of eating with gloves and serving the meal with plastic bags and i loved how fresh and hot was the meal, also they have the best, efficient customer service! I drove my family crazy to come and give it a try!

We tried the famous Captain's boil bags. They bring you the bag full of what you ordered, in my case it was muscles and shrimps in a juicy yummy spicy sauce. They provide you with plastic gloves and a paper bib so you can dig in with your hands.

It's messy but an experience to try. The service was great.

I wish there was no plastic waste though. If there was an option to order in a regular reusable bowl I would have opted for that for the environment.

If you want to spend money on a terrible dining experience, you are looking at the right place.

I used to love going to Captain's Boil with my friends since I lived in the neighborhood.

Last week, I had my WORST dining experience at this place in my ENTIRE life. The waitress SIENA yelled at us because we didn't scan the QR code for safety measures when we entered the restaurant. There is nobody at the front door to let us know about this in the first place, and it's normal for me not to knowing that. It was really awkward because everyone else is watching her yelling at us like we did something really unforgivable. Then we tried to communicate with her about her attitude, and she just tried to justify her behaviors using other excuses and blame the whole thing on us. If I didn't try to control my anger, I am sure she can mock and argue with us nonstop for the next one hour. She even threatened us to not serving us even though we followed all the rules and filled the safety form as soon as she requested. TBH, I didn't even have the mood to have my lunch there, and I promise I won't ever come back to this place again. The only reason I stayed there for lunch is because my other friend came early and already ordered the food. If I am the boss here, I should definitely consider firing this employee and improve the hiring standard.

This is my go to place once a week before the pandemic started since the portion and taste was very good.

Very excited to visit again today after more than a year due to good experience. Ordered our usual mix and match of chicken and shrimp. The shrimp was perfect and rice great temperature. What disappointed me is the extra sauce (captains boil + fire), it was very very salty. It’s like the salt was sprinkled on top and never mixed. As well, the chicken given was not tasty and seems like old; it was hard. We were going to give it back and decided not too as it will just be a hassle; we were already hungry at the time.

Overall, it was a disappointing experience especially we LOVE this place. Maybe it’s time to go to a different location: (

I simply enjoyed their food. I always get fantastic customer service there. The place is well organised and the staff members are always very friendly. Highly recommended.

We had the 1b crawfish in the captains boil sauce with medium heat.

We had a piece of corn and sausage with it. It was really delicious and I’d definitely recommend it. The sausage was cut into pieces which made it easy to share.

They provided bibs and gloves which was a nice touch since it can get messy!

Soft shell crab was good, not the best for takeout. The lettuce lobster roll had more lettuce then lobster. Everything tasted good

The sea food boil is under seasoned despite having it sit in a bag of sauce, although it smells good. The fries are so good, Cajun style. The service was a fast and friendly.

Very interesting restaurant experience- live, massive crustaceans surrounding you as you eat their tasty relatives? The seasoning on the lobster is slightly sweet and delicious. The little fried shrimp in the rice are crispy and sooo good. Fairly good value as far as a lobster dinner goes. This restaurant is half as much about the experience as it is the food. Little lobster and crab wagons passing by the whole time are very entertaining. Definitely will come back

Stumbled upon this place so I dashed in to takeout something for myself.
Choices abundant but kept it simple with a shrimp order with corn on cob side and what a delicious treat it was, yum.
Service was swift, explanations for newbies easy and within 5mins I was on my way.
For sure I'll be back in.

The shrimp size is jumbo, the seafood rice is very well-cooked, and the cajun fries are amazing. The creative serving is always a fun experience too!

This is one of my favorite places to go. The foods are delicious. The sauce is rich and full of flavour. It's a little spicy though. The atmosphere is generally very casual. They give you disposable plastic gloves to keep your hands clean when you chomp down those yummy seafood. That leaves your hands smell a little plastic-y afterwards, but I guess that's better than having your hands coated with grease. The portion is pretty big at a decent price. If you don't like butter, you won't really enjoy it because this restaurant put butter in a lot of their foods. Even the fried rice tastes butter-y, which I like. Oh, did I mention that the service is exceptional? If you love seafood and don't mind getting all messy and greasy, you should check it out!

The food was just horrible. The worst I have eaten. Left the restaurant hungry as we could not eat the food. Ordered fried crab, fries, fry rice and fried shrimp.

Can never go too wrong with those amazing sauce, both the Cajun and the Captains Boil! Spiciest one can get a bit more spicy though.

Best crabs and shrimps I've ever had! The snow crab legs and shrimp 1 pounders with garlic sauce and potatoes were amazing! Great food for decent prices!

First tip to newbies: Be prepared yo will get dirty, the place offers disposable gloves, but still, once you start oil and garlic flies everywhere. It's a fun concept, with delicious sea food, gigantic mussels, I would say very well proportioned plates. Friendly staff. Would only suggest to designate an area for jackets and coats or else you end up all greasy (even if you're not wearing them).

They have an all you can eat special but it’s not on the menu. Ridiculous. Also I asked for two potatoes instead of 1 corn and potato and they say it’s not their policy. What kinda policy is that? Just give me the damn potato. No ice with drink.

Next time I’m going to broil bar.

Great place! Very comfortable and the food is amazing. The service was really good too, the food came quickly. The Calamari was probably one of my favourite I've ever had.

Very awkward experience given the price for everything.
I did not appreciate how the menu nor waitress informed me of the massive price jump when ordering a lobster plate.unexpectedly ended up paying over $140.00 for 2 people since the lobster was $50 at 'market price' however I had not been informed about this by any of the staff. I feel really tricked for my money at the moment.

I went to the location in Scarborough, overall this place was good. Good service, atmosphere was cool and food was ok. The reason for the two star rating is because they do not devein their shrimp! Unfortunately that is enough for me not to go back to a place especially when handling shrimp. I am not sure if all locations are the same but the Scarborough location def does not devein their shrimps.

Always delicious. A bit pricier then before but they include a couple sides now. Easy place to meet with all the locations in Toronto. You also get your guests full attention because they're hands are going to be unavailable while you eat.:)

Pretty decent seafood, 1lb and 2 sides good enough to fill a normal person. Had the mussels with captain sauce. Pretty good. Although the corn (side) is a bit small, would've hoped for a bigger cob of corn. Only had thing is that the gloves broke and my hands smell like the sauce now.

We have dined here a half dozen times at least, but the last visit has turned out to be the worst so far.
We ordered snow crab legs and shrimps, with a couple of side items. The crab legs were actually decent, and certainly of a good value, too. However, the shrimps were way worse than the usual. This location had been our go-to place for shrimp fest meals. But, this time the shrimps were way too mushy and flavorless, and did not taste fresh at all.
The services were generally okay. A wait staff made a mistake, but she had it corrected kindly and very quickly. Another wait staff had long extended nails, and her nails seem neither very hygienic nor comfortable for working at a restaurant.

Very tasty.went recently for the all you can eat shrimp + corn + potato.only downside is that you can only get that corn and potato on the first round then after that its not included anymore in the all you can eat. But very tasty and friendly staff!

Food was not good. I did not order as I was full from my previous meal. My cousin who was visiting us ordered a lobster which was over cooked, the meat was sunken in. My son ordered fish and chips, the fish was tasting poor like fresh water fish not like real seafood restaurants serve cod or halibut fish. The servers' serving service was absolute uncivilized. A person took our order. Then this waiter came and threw my cousin's lobster in a plastic bag in the middle of the table and walked away. Didn't say hello neither made eye contact, nothing and went to another table and did the same. Then I watched all the waiters and waitresses throughout my stay. Same exact serving manner. People don't even feed their pets like this by throwing their food at them. Manners are very important no matter what year we are in or how old we are! I felt so offended there as if I was in an uncivilized colony. They wanted only the business but no human interactions. Perhaps they should hire robots instead, at least would be less offensive as we humans would feel it is just a robot behaviour. I will go to other seafood restaurants in the future but not this one.

Curious about this place for a year finally went with my sisters last week. I was really looking forward to enjoying some good sea food at this place but left disappointed and still hungry. We ordered shrimp, crawfish, crab legs, sausages, fired rice, and Cajun fries, with captain boil sauce, hot. Firstly, friendly, staff. Server was very nice and knowlegble. The crab legs or should I say leg because all we received was 1 leg and that was $53. Not happy about that. The shrimp and sausage came together in one bag, crawfish and potatoes in another and the other things on their own. Be careful while eating, its very saucy. It goes everywhere, Including in my sisters eye when she picked up a shrimp and it fell back down In the bag. Everything was just okay. The only thing I would give a five are the fries and that’s sad because there is nothing special about foezen fries. We spend around $120 with drinks. Not worth it, but we experienced it and now will probably never go back. Sorry wanted to like it.

PRICE: $15.00 - $98.00. The shrimp and snow crab legs were not worth the price since it's by weight.
SERVICE: Well-trained staff, very professional, very nice. They will make your friends very happy.
ATMOSPHERE: Casual; very fun; social.
FOOD: You eat with your hands and it can get messy. The selection of seafood was not too special, but it tasted amazingly fresh and the sauces were all fantastic and definitely of the highest quality for Toronto!
OVERALL RATING: 4 stars for price; 5 stars for atmosphere; 5 stars for food; 5 stars for service.

Shout out to the server with coconut head who moved us to another sit so other customers can sit where its the same 4 seater table, we order take out and was asked by the coconut head server to sit at the front and we did its just that she asked as to moved so costumers can sit to where we are sitting (well aren't we also you customers tho? We are ordering your food that makes us your customer) Thank you for that server who made us feel disrespected on thanksgiving day. The food was great its just your server at 4 o'clock showed us bad customer service.oopps sorry I forgot were not customers just a random people who happen to order take out food. The seafood was juicy and the seasonings (I tried the garlic, lemon pepper, and Captain's Boil seasonings) are delicious. The $65 special, which includes a pitcher of beer, is great value and can feed three people comfortably.

The whole experience was unpretentious, interactive, and messy in the best way! I had a group of 14 from out of town to celebrate someone's birthday and everyone had a blast. The service was amazing and they even accommodated our request to serve us an externally bought ice cream cake.

Seriously amazing food out it’s like dinning in a pirate ship lol with your hands eating just a different feeling.

If you like crab and shrimp you may like it, but there were no vegetarian options and only one fish option. The service was extremely slow but once you got a table it moved quickly. Knowing the amout of visitors they had in the area that day, they should have hired more staff.

My dad really likes this place. I food tastes good. I just hope they realize that some customers just don't like eating off the paper on the table and prefer plates. I think they need to have their upholstery cleaned. It looks very dirty with all the seafood juice stains.

I knew it was going to be good seeing the tables lined in paper and people wearing bibs. Very good food and reasonably price!

Im just not into the whole eating off the table with my hands thing. I get the gimmickiness about it and can totally see a family with kids having a good time here, but it's just not for me. Service was good as well as the food.

This is just the best, I would recommend to go to the restaurant instead of delivery, as there is a special everyday, on beer and/or food. I have tried the shrimp and the mussels, but I just love the shrimp, with the captains boil sauce with a choice of spice level (if you find fire isn't spicy enough, you can ask for volcano, which isnt on the menu), mixing this sauce with their fried rice is just heaven! You must try this.
